Then you have the one cook coming up front saying they don't control the app and it just says orders are ready when they are not. I came in told the girl upfront my name and then she said it's ALMOST ready.. but that was a lie in fact my order that was placed at 5:30 pm and pick Up was 50 min late my food was in fact not even dropped to be cooked until almost 7pm. I've driven by this place lots of times but hadn't stopped before. Today I was avoiding tunnel traffic and decided to pick up dinner otw home. Goggle gave several options to order in advance but no website. I checked yelp and the link took me to toast tab and listed a 45 min wait time. I had several people come in for pickup while researching from my car in the parking lot. When I went inside, there was no line and the cashier said it would only be able 10 min for an 8pc. He recommended okra, corn pudding, and Mac & cheese. I selected the last 2. There were benches to sit and wait for your to go order. There was also a dinning room to the right of the order counter. I'm not sure if they bring the food to you or call your name because no one was in the dinning room. There were kitschy sayings and pictures on the wall. While I was waiting, a gentleman came out of the restroom and told the.cashiers that they might want to check out the men's room because it was disgusting. The other cashier stated it's always that way. That's not exactly the attitude you want to see at a restaurant. Hopefully kitchen cleanliness is more important to staff. My food was ready shortly thereafter. The chicken had good. The Mac and cheese was the consistency of stouffers but I'm not sure if was made in store or Sysco variety. The corn pudding tasted better than it looked after being scooped out. There were fried puff biscuits that you can drizzle with honey. After living in Hampton Roads for about 3 years, I finally had a chance to try Pollards chicken. I went with a 3 piece meal and they gave me all dark chicken, I guess they're a little bit short on white. I'm very glad that they had cinnamon apples as an option, way too few places have apples. I also got mashed potatoes and while they were very hearty and creamy, they were a little bit too heavy on the gravy for my liking. I ordered a large tea to drink and I asked for half sweet/half unsweet. Unfortunately the tea I got was completely unsweet. After a few minutes, the staff fixed that issue. The chicken was quite good, the skin is very crispy, the meat was juicy, although I couldn't really taste much in the way of spices and seasonings. But a little honey and hot sauce was decent enough. It was just ok. The cashier had no problem cursing in front of me about the rude guest who left his mess on the counter after he ate like he had a maid. I thought he was a jerk, but I wouldn't have felt that comfortable to curse that much in front of another guest. She was mad. I understood. I just didn't need that in front of my young son. Earlier this month while in Norfolk, we decided to Head over to Newport New to visit my Cuz and her daughter and agreed to bring lunch rather than calling in an order from their house. Chicken was a hit. We got two boxes of chicken and two boxes of sides. It was more than enough for the four of us with four or five pieces left over, i.e. tomorrow's lunch. Thank goodness there was little tunnel traffic and we arrived with hot chicken and sides. The hot chicken is the best part about Pollard's. The chicken is not cooked until it is ordered. Stopped by yesterday afternoon and as soon as I walked in, I JUST knew my girlfriend and I would eat good. Since we already looked at the menu prior to arriving, I had to let Monica know she didn't even have to give us the spill lol. We came for the fried fish (flounder) lol! What reminds me the most of home besides crabs is the gizzards from Pollards. This is such a great memory for me that I've raised my 3 children to love them just as much. I was picking up from my neighborhood location on Tidewater Dr. I walked in and got my food with no wait, it was piping hot and I was excited to see the new boxes that you all have now. I ordered 2 large gizzards and 10 puffs. Got them home, 5min away just in Oceanview. Kids and I sat down to eat, and my older son asked if I had gone to Pollards because the box was different and the taste was completely different. Around the 3rd one my son spit it out and said he couldn't eat anymore. I tried it and couldn't get past eating 2, I tried my puffs and it tasted similar. My assumption is that it was all cooked in old grease, the same grease. The gizzards were dark, but not burnt. Everything was completely inedible. Ugh. How could my tastebuds have changed THAT much!?! I remember years ago stopping in and getting Puffs & Honey when I was in the area. This is an old fast food joint that needs more than a fresh coat of paint. The interior, while not littered with trash or clutter, doesn't have the feeling of clean or fresh, but then again, most of their fare is fried so maybe you should expect that. I don't know. I rarely eat fried foods. As I waited for my food, there was a clear view of the cook and all the fryers in the kitchen. I watched him pop open a can of biscuits and toss them in hot oil. When they were done, he pulled them up and drained them. The woman who worked the register placed them in a bag along with packets of honey. I took them out to the car, opened the pack of honey, and put it on a fried biscuit. I thought I would gag. The honey... well, I don't even know how to describe it. I have never tasted anything like that and I buy real honey ALL the time. The biscuits tasted like they were set on a counter with cleaner, yet that never occurred because I watched the entire process. I ended up not eating them and felt nauseated the entire trip home. I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. I gave the place two stars because the lady behind the register was pleasant and helpful. She was a busy bee. This review is solely for the rotisserie chicken breast/wing meal. I eat chicken often and this is with out a doubt the worst rotisserie chicken meal ever. It was so small it was comedic! The chicken was also dry. The sweet potato had little to no taste. We called to complain and the manager claimed "the chicken was cooked in the morning and we should have got an additional piece if it was that small." He also implied, they had a new person and he apologized. Sounds like poor training and even more POOR quality!! My favorite chicken wing place in Norfolk pays extra money to get better quality chicken from the food distributor. I could give Pollard's Chicken hundreds of reviews - all good. They are just a good part of growing up in the Tidewater area. Today my sweet mom treated me to the two piece dark meat meal with sweet potato fries and macaroni and cheese. The chicken was moist and the skin was so crispy and tasty. I dipped my fries in honey - yummy! Macaroni and cheese was generically good - you know it's not made from scratch but like it anyway. Mom had the fried livers with green beans and it hit the spot - totally satisfied her craving. Our puffs didn't disappoint. We were very happy with our meals. The other side of this review is the exceptional service we received. From opening the door so I could wheel my mother inside, to the exceptional service provided by the polite and attentive dark haired young man who worked there between 4:00-5:30 (sorry I didn't get your name!) and brought our meals to our table - our experience was very pleasant. I'm sorry we didn't have room for pie! Pollard's is the place you bring out of town guests, is the place you call to cater your office functions, is the place you and an old friend come to talk about old times. Good fried chicken is one of my favorite splurges. I have been in this area for 29 years and Pollards has been consistent in making great fried chicken. I have read through the reviews - some hits and misses but I have never had a miss with the chicken, maybe I've been lucky! I recently tried their NC style BBQ and it was good, although too finely chopped for my texture preferences. However, it was good enough to order again. I also recently tried the gizzards with onions in gravy over rice - delicious and the portion is large enough to share! Green beans are perfectly seasoned and the corn pudding is yummy as well. The puffs need no accalades. Now the cons: the mashed potatoes lack flavor and the gravy seems to be reconstituted canned soup. The cole slaw is just ok but delicious on top of the BBQ sammich! Now a word about customer service: I know there have been lots of negatives, but I had a positive experience. I received a call regarding my order from a gentleman at the Tidewater Dr location. They were out of something I ordered. He was very curteous - introduced himself, explained the situation, offered alternatives, said please and thank you. More than a half century later, they are still the local's go to choice for fried chicken. Growing up, I went to countless numbers of events, from weddings to command parties on base to baseball, end of season, everyone gets a trophy, picnics. I work in the public school system and a catered Pollard's luncheon is a standard part of many a teacher appreciation day. Simply put, it's the 757's best fried chicken, is all, y'all. Tonight I picked up some takeout for movie night at home. We ordered chicken tenders which were well seasoned, crispy and yes, tender. Husband got the mac and cheese which was great. I enjoyed the fries, standard, no complaints. We also ordered an NC style pulled pork sandwich to share. I can tell you we are BBQ aficionados and Pollard's Q is on point! Rounding out the meal are these funny little puffs of fried dough served with honey. I don't know if they are an alternative to hush puppies, which, by the way, are also on the menu, but they are delicious! When I think of fried chicken there's only one place that comes to mind, Pollards. This is one of the older locations and it's been here in Norfolk since I was a child. The building they're in now was a BK years ago, the original location was about a half mile up the road. We walked in and ordered a 16 piece deal w/ a Groupon. That also included 4 sides and a bunch of puff's. The thing that I've always really appreciated about Pollards is they make the meal when you order it. The wait was about 20 minutes, but so worth it when we arrived home and opened everything up. Gut busting delicious! Check them out, you'll be glad you did. read more

This is a place that makes me wish we could divide our ratings. One for service and one for food. The service was a five star easily. They are friendly, funny, and makes you feel welcome like family. The food was 3.5 stars. The fried chicken is very good. I had the chicken BBQ, it was average but not bad. I enjoyed the sides. The green beans and spiced apples were terrific and the hush puppies were among the best I've had in the area. I also had one of the puffs that Pollards is famous for, I'm not sure what everyone loves about them. They are soft and warm but they are just a warm bread ball. I wasn't that impressed. Overall I enjoyed my lunch and I'd come back again. They have the perfect combination of fast food and family service. I just wish I had tried the homemade desserts. As Witchduck Rd store closed, I decided to drive to the College Park Pollards for pick-up. My order was waiting for me when I arrived. However the chicken was dry and the onion rings had a very strong taste of old cooking oil. . It was by far the worst fried chicken I have ever had at Pollards, and I have been a customer from the time they opened on Little Creek Rd in the 70's. I doubt I will return again. read more

So Friday night I found my way to this place. I've passed by it several times now when I come to the Norfolk area and decided to finally give it a try. I have to say I was kind of disappointed in the quality of the food, and the price you pay for it. I get the impression this is an old school Norfolk favorite. Maybe it was better back in the day. There's plenty of local competition now that do a much better, job I feel like. The fried chicken was overcooked, and the mac & cheese seemed like it was out of a box. The side of green beans I got was tasty though. with that being said I will come here again though because there are several other items I would like to try. The true test will be on their fried chicken livers! I do like chicken livers and I will give them a shot the next time I'm in Norfolk. If they fail there I will never come back. Platter consists of: Fried Chicken, Chopped Pork, Barbecue, Country Potato Salad, Creamy Cole Slaw, Oven Baked Beans, Hushpuppies, Dinner Rolls, and Butter; they also provided us with the paper products and utensils - serving and dining.
