I too decided to order from DoorDash having been craving some poke (never easy to find outside of California) and got a couple of bowls. I have to say it was the most horrendous thing I'd ever seen in me life. Immediately opening the cover I could smell that this fish went bad.I mean really bad. I used to go here all the time, because the food was fresh and consistently good. Unfortunately, I went for lunch yesterday and it was just 'ok'. The people working behind the counter were nice, but the guy who helped me basically just slopped all of the food into the bowl and made no effort at all to make it look good. In fact, it looked disgusting and the presentation was terrible. And no, it was not busy as I was only one in the whole restaurant. Finally a place in Boston that specializes in poke!!! I think this is the first one (minus a sushi burrito place that I will not name here but wrote a review on and was disappointed with). I came here on the second day of opening at around 6pm and was shocked to see a huge line out the door. The ordering and prep process isn't too long though so it wasn't a terrible wait. If you're new to poke places, there is a menu that lists all the options. I recommend doing a make your own to really customize your preferences! I got the bowl with white rice and two scoops of protein. Honestly the scoops are quite tiny but when you load it up with rice and other toppings like cucumber, crab meat, seaweed, and more, the ingredients add up and you're left with a pretty generous portioned meal. I really like the tuna and scallop combo mixed with the shoyu sauce. I got the sriracha aioli on the side to mix it while I was eating. Seating is extremely limited and I had to do to go to eat at home. Maybe come during an off hour once they extend their hours (only open 5-10pm as of 12/3/16) to find a seat! A group of us had a serious hankering for poke and since we have kids, we decided to get it to go. We tried to order online or over the phone and they said that they weren't able to do that yet. So we texted our (very complex) orders to my husband to pick up for us on the way from work. This was at around 5PM. There was traffic of course and then I hear that there is a long line about an hour later -- what... we were hungry! So because they make everything chipotle style down a line, my husband said he would need a little more help than that for the 7 bowls and 1 burrito we were ordering. A manager jumped in and worked to quickly get it done. (Extra special thanks for that!) At around 7PM, we finally had our delicious bowls, huzzah!! I loved my umami classic (swapped tuna for salmon) with added onion chips. It would have been even better freshly made I imagine but it was seriously yummy. I was a little disappointed by the burrito though, maybe the sauce wasn't distributed well enough or I'd say they should toss the protein in it before wrapping it. I liked my bowl a lot better. I do also wish they had some sort of mini bowl options for kids like with one meat & veggie or topping. I had poke a bunch of times before during vacations in Hawaii and was thrilled to hear a place to get poke finally made it to the bay state. My wife and I shared the Hawaiian classic burrito and the spicy ponzu albacore poke bowl. Personally our opinion but we thought it was okay. I wish it was more authentic where the tuna is already seasoned rather then adding it on the spot like they do at pokeworks. Hawaiian classic burrito was flavorful but I thought the nori wrap was a bit too chewy. As for the poke bowl, I would opt for a different flavor, perhaps the Hawaiian classic since it was pretty good as a wrap. The spicy ponzu bowl I thought was fairly salty since I went with their "medium" amount of sauce. If you don't like too salty opt for light. But then it might not be enough flavor for your poke bowl. Overall, the poke wasn't bad. It's in MA and the fix for poke is there if you need it. The location has the option for street parking or public parking if you follow the signs. It's also not the greatest place to bring a big party in due to lack of seating. Wish I was able to give half stars. I rate this place a 3.5 star. Poke on. Cheers. read more

However with some waiting, I returned to pick up my food and I will have to say the freshness and deliciousness of my food made up for the lost time. If you are a big sushi fan or are craving something a little healthier, this place does not disappoint. Great new spot in David Square and first real Poke place in the Boston area. I just got home from their opening night and they did not disappoint. I was daring and created my own Poke bowl while my sister and her friend ordered the Hawaiian Classic. The raw fish was fresh and had good flavor and the toppings were all fresh and clean. We felt that the rice to fish/topping ratio could be better-- there was a little too much rice for the amount of fish and toppings but we were still happy. The Hawaiian Classic compared to my DIY Poke was a little bland and just looked/tasted like there was something missing. It was good but I was not blown away by it. My DIY however had much more toppings and ingredients in the sauce so I enjoyed the more complex flavor. I also liked how the sauce smother the rice a little. I like a little heat so I added jalapeños and got the spicy ginger sauce and my bowl seems perfect for me. You can pretty much customize anything so don't be hesitant to change it up a little. I will definitely be returning as long as they keep the ingredients and the raw foods fresh. Great place for quick grab lunch or dinner. Very friendly staff with smiles all around! **Update- Since opening, I have returned a few times and this is more for the business owner. -- I would really recommend making the sushi cubes smaller (at least for the salmon and tuna). The chunks are too big and are not considered "bite size" considering they are meant to be eaten by the fork full or burrito bite. I would also recommend mixing the sushi rice around more before putting it in the bowl to help it not clump when it cools down. I have on every occasion found myself trying to separate the sushi rice clumps at the bottom of my bowl and it doesn't really come apart easily. Just some thoughts! When I got there, I was told there was a issue printing my order but it'll be a minute. The staff started my order but then put it aside and proceeded to serve walk-in customers. I waited 10 more minutes as I see walk-in customers (at least a dozen) continue to get their orders before my order was eventually completed. I found Pokeworks out of purse curiosity. This time curiosity didn't kill the cat. It got the cat a sushi bowl instead. I saw a huge line outside and so obviously I had to be noisy and check it out. Turns out, it was the grand opening. So I've known Pokeworks since the beginning. And this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Pokeworks has become one of my go to places in Davis. I like the unlimited toppings and the fish always tastes fresh. I'm partial to bowls over burritos just because I find the seaweed wrap too much on the burritos. They have such a mix of toppings to pick - from cucumbers to wonton chips. The combinations are endless. My only complaint on the ingredients is that sometimes the avocado is already browning and no longer a tasty topping. That's not really Pokeworks' fault. The avocado is a tricky beast. Finally dragged my boyfriend here after many denials from him to go here. He had a bad experience with poke in Cali and vowed to never eat it again (the place he went to was gross apparently). I told him that Pokeworks will change your mind!! He finally agreed to go and HE LOVED IT. As did I. I love pokeworks so much!! The bowls are delicious and so filling that I always have to take it home to finish it later. My favorite fish to eat here are the ahi tuna, salmon, and spicy salmon. Came here based on Yelp and wanting something light. The size choices are a regular $12 and $14.50 large. Both seem a little excessive, except they do offer specialized ingredients, including raw fish. The place is set up like a Chipotle or Big Bowl, but with a lot less seating. I got the spicy ahi, but was surprised that does not mean anything for the ingredients. My daughter got a regular lava bowl, but our bowls pretty much looked identical, subject to our individual ingredients. Maybe the one only difference is the sauce. My only complaint with the dish is that the rice is on the bottom while everything else is mixed on top. That left a bland bed of rice with not much left to mix in as I dug down. Maybe next time skip the rice. The regular size was what I would consider a large. I did not see anyone get a large, no idea how big it is. We were all stuffed. Taste other than the brown rice was awesome. Staff is very nice. Food was prepared quickly and the staff was very helpful. There is a single unisex bathroom. Free cups of water. The ding of a star is for the higher price, the Signature Works not really being anything unique, and odd placement of the rice. I would eat here again. read more

Parking: As others have posted, if you can't get street parking in front, go to the municipal lot near sugidama, short walk from Pokeworks. Food: I recommend doing your own combo as my own custom mix was definitely more flavorful than the suggestions. I had the tuna and salmon with the Korean gojuchang sauce. The sashimi was fresh and definitely rocked the tastebuds. I went with the white rice and onion crunch and it was a superb combo that really did it for me. Mixing furiously, every spoonful was an explosion of fresh flavor and chewy tuna and salmon. Seating: Not too much seating around inside so I recommend coming in around 2 (like we did) and let the crowd clear out a bit. I made my own poke bowl coming here and it was the best creation I've made. Small is $10.45 (2 choices of protein) Large is $13.50 (3 choices of protein). They have SO many choices for what you can put inside your bowl. Everything is laid out, exactly like when you go to chipotle, best visualization I can give. Here's a break down of what I got: spicy salmon, shrimp, scallops, brown rice, kale noodles, cilantro, cucumbers, fresh jalapenos, diced mangos, sweet onion, sriracha aioli in medium for spice, green onions, garlic crisps, onion crisps and crab salad. The restaurant was clean, service was quick and they have plenty of long tables to sit in. I completely fell in love with this place! Everything I got was so fresh and tasty. Avocado lovers- its $1.50 to add it, similar to other places. Don't worry, there are few, very rare items that are only a little extra. There is a lot more toppings that are free. The Davis Sq. Pokeworks is very good. They have fast and efficient employees who can be very friendly, too. I have never tasted bad fish nor vegetables, and the establishment is kept generally clean. This poke bowl restaurant chain is my favorite because they have self-serve sesame oil, which other poke places do not have. There was no wait around 8PM on a Saturday night. Like most poke places, you can either pick from a variety of poke bowls on the menu, or build your own bowl from what you see in the counter. I opt for a Regular sized poke at $10.95 (Two choices of protein). Protein Choices available: Ahi Tuna (Fresh), Salmon (Spicy/Fresh), Shrimp, Scallop, Chicken, Organic Tofu Mine was a combo of: 50/50 Sushi Rice and Spring Mix base with ... Fresh Salmon, Hijiki and Ogo seaweed, Chopped Shiso, Fresh jalapeno, Cilantro. For flavor, I went with Sriracha Aioli. My bowl was topped with Seaweed salad, pickled ginger, green onions, garlic crisps and masago. I really liked how they had the proteins mixed separately in a metal bowl before topping it on your base at the very end. The salmon chunks were pretty unevenly cut, but were fresh nevertheless. You are asked if you want a light/medium/heavy dressing and I went with medium, which I think is more than enough sauce for the bowl. Ask them to go a little lighter on the crispy toppings if you want to avoid having a jaw workout during your meal. Will definitely return to try other flavors! read more

When I visited my bf in MA, we ate here two times in two days haha. I've first had Pokéworks in NYC so the food wasn't new to me, but it was still delicious. This location is spacious and clean, and the food was of course fresh! Super impressed with this store- came in for the first time on their one year anniversary, where they were having a buy one get one free promotion, so obviously, there was a huge line of people. Service was still very fast considering the sheer amount of people, and they even offered free miso soup for everyone in the line (not very good though, sorry). And of course, the poke was so good. I loved being able to customize everything and choose from so many different ingredients, and I think $10 is pretty affordable for one bowl. It was a nice gesture. However 2 weeks later and I've yet to see this refund, after calling 3 times. I wanted to come back and give some more details on why Pokeworks is amazing~ I've tried so many poke places in the area and I've gotta say Pokeworks is still one of my favorites. I always get tuna or salmon here as my protein and their tuna/salmon is consistently fresh. For those who want other options, there's shrimp and spicy salmon as more unconventional protein. Great unlimited toppings with classics like seaweed salad, crab salad, and more. Typically, going through the line, I'll get salad/greens with edamame, mango, both seaweeds, seaweed and crab salad and onion crisps. Finished off with a medium amount of bright ponzu sauce! I like the choice between pre-made bowls (that you can add toppings to as well!) and make your own bowl fun. Great selections, always fresh, and so tasty! 10/10 read more

I often find myself returning to the establishment for my poke bowl cravings. Decent quality and a quick bite. I really enjoy the option of being able to customize your own bowl. Mainly the reason for my frequent visits... You can also order the signature dishes and add more ingredients to it. At first I didn't understand the difference between the regular and large portion as it comes in the same size bowl! But I guess the extra serving of protein changes the size, which will run you roughly $3 more.. They offer seating but can be limited when busy.. I have always witness customers saving seats before they go to the counter during peak hours. I usually take my meals to go so I had no issues there... The only negative I have is of their customer service skills, which seems to be inconsistent.. One day I'll encounter someone pretty happy and easy going, and another, the employee just looked miserable....... read more

But lately, I have noticed that the quality of the proteins has varied, and the menu options for build your own have removed some of my preferred add-ons, toppings and condiments. I also noticed that there has been a tendency to load the bowl with rice and skimp on the other ingredients, which is disappointing. To top it off, my phone app would not let me add a payment method (somehow the app purged the data I had entered). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. No dice. I called the Somerville shop, and the person I spoke to could not have cared less. I guess you could say that I am now exploring other options for poke, sadly. I came here for dinner on a Saturday night with my boyfriend around 7. There was a long line, as many have mentioned before, but the place is a decent size and seemed pretty clean from what I could see. Despite the menu having premade bowls, when we went up the people behind the bar let you pick whatever you want. There is a protein, veggie and sauce person, and fix-ins person. Other than the proteins, you can get as many veggies and fix-ins as you wish, but some do cost more (like avocado). Each person knew the ingredients pretty well. After I finished my bowl, I asked one of the employees what was in one of the shakers and he told me and offered to add it to my bowl as well. I got ahi tuna and salmon with Sriracha aioli and it was fairly spicy which was great. My boyfriend got the same thing, but with our different choices of add ons, our bowls tasted completely different. At first, I thought it wouldn't be much food, but we both agreed it was a decently sized portion. My only gripes were the line, which was non-existent after we ordered and the employee at the register. He didn't ring either of us properly, needing to redo it multiple times. TL;DR great food lots of options, but don't came at prime dinner time. Random tip: we knew parking could be difficult, so we reserved a spot with downtime parking, not too far from there for a decent price. Saved us a lot of time and frustration. I totally understand that it's busy and it appeared as those they were filling online orders while real life customers were waiting. Perhaps they should have two separate lines or figure out a way to do the online orders separate from the rest. I made my own chicken shrimp poke bowl with the pokeworks classic sauce and it was delicious!!! I didn't want my bowl to be over with. I just couldn't stand the workers, how sloppy they were scooping tuna and other meats out. As the worker was scooping someone else's tuna, a bit of it got flung into the lettuce, I'm not a fan of tuna so I certainly wouldn't want any in my lettuce, which is why I opted out. Options are available in either a bowl, salad or buritto with various bases ranging from white or brown rice to kale or spinach . Sizes are small ($10.50) and large ($13.50) which simply denotes the difference in the amount of protein you will receive in your order. Although the fish is fresh, the selection is limited to tuna, salmon, sous vide scallops and shrimp. Interestingly, this spot has chicken and tofu also, which are not normally part of Poke. The toppings to bowls are standard and range from edamame beans to scallions, sweet onions, hijiiki and ogo seaweed, seaweed salad, jalapeños, several fruits, tobiko, furikake, sesame seeds, ginger and cucumber. Sauces are mostly sesame and soy based with two aiolis available. Quick service and very customizable bowls make this a good spot. read more
