i don't really like the pineapple salsa and mangoes were too mushy for me. also didn't give that much sauce when I asked for medium amount of sauce. solid bowl tho, would order again if was craving poke.

Customer service was horrible. The Asian girl who served me looked annoyed the whole time and did not answer any of my questions. Gave me TWO shrimps as one of my protein choices. Looked like she was miserable working there as if she was a daughter of the family business who was forced to be there. No pride whatsoever. Like at that point, just quit and do something with your life, if you could even manage that. Don't take your unhappiness out on customers and other ppl. Update: Also found a hair in my food...

Was debating between a few poke spots in the Cambridge/Somerville area, and definitely glad we picked Poke City! Average came to a 4.5, so rounding up the rating to 5 stars here. My partner and I built our own poke bowls: a bowl w two proteins (spicy salmon and spicy tuna) and poke city sauce, and a bowl w three proteins (spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and shoyu salmon) and sesame ginger sauce - TASTE: 5/5 - fantastic, both of our expectations were exceeded. We both typically load up our bowls w almost all of the mix-ins and toppings, and they came out super saucy and flavorful. Favorites included the seaweed salad, mango, and cilantro. Also, first time we've seen a boiled egg option! TEXTURE: 4/5 - the fish was perfect, and all of the crunchy toppings, like garlic crunch and onion crisps, added dimension PRICE: 5/5 - the prices are super reasonable! It's not often bowls start at $13.50 SERVING SIZE: 5/5 - the employees were super generous, we were both stuffed and satisfied after devouring our bowls SERVICE: 4/5 - it was quiet and empty on a Wednesday night, so we got our dinner really quickly PARKING: 4/5 - we found a metered spot down the block

Ordered Poke City for takeout for the first time last night and I'm super excited that I did! I have a feeling this will become one of my go to spots in the Cambridge/Somerville area. I ordered the Poke City Special bowl because I looooved that it includes Salmon, Ahi tuna AND Shrimp. They have a bunch of speciality bowls and offer a build-your-own version, which is always nice. The quality of the fish and veggies was great, and the portion was huge, I ended up throwing a lot of the sushi rice away in the end because I just couldn't finish it. It was a pretty standard Poke bowl overall, but it does have a yummy pineapple salsa that makes it a little more exiting than your basic bowl. I also got some Sriracha aioli and a Miso soup on the side. I probably wouldn't order the soup again, the flavor was a bit off to me but that probably just comes down to personal preference. I ordered through grub hub and received a free Red Bean Daifuku for spending over $20 which is a nice touch! Will definitely order from here again :)

It's a small cute shop. Lots of options! Poke needs options! This is the first place that I have seen that offered eel. What a win! Fish was great and tasty. Sauces were awesome! I recommend the spicy citrus sauce. Really awesome. Honestly the flavors came together so nicely that I crushed it. Coming back for sure.

Overall, this is a decent spot. The person working was very nice and answered my questions. There is a great selection and not terrible prices. However, this isn't the best poke I've had so I can't give it 5 stars. This is mainly due to the rice amount. I felt that the ratio of rice to toppings and protein was imbalanced.

Custom bowl with lots of mix-ins. Highly recommend extra cucumbers for the textural crunch!

Decent poke for a decent price, considering it's raw fish. As per usual for poke, Poke City offers customization with a large selection of unlimited toppings and a few choices of protein. I always customize because their pre-made combinations are not as tasty. Comes with a TON of the "base" (rice) and not as much of everything else -- disproportionate in my opinion. The portion looks large because of the heap of rice on the bottom, but there's not actually that much protein or toppings in there. Ordered online for takeout and it was prepared very quickly. Packaged well and great for a lighter lunch or dinner.

I can only speak to delivery of Poke City- but Poke City is definitely a favorite within the Boston area. Food arrives fresh and flavorful! At around $16 for a 3 protein bowl (via Grub Hub), it is a bit pricey, and the portions could be larger for sure. But, overall it is good enough! A few items of note that I enjoy in the 3 protein bowl: - Ahi Tuna Shoyu is lightly sauced and delicious! - the marinated shiitake mushrooms are so good - love the addition of mango - large amounts of edamame and corn provided - seaweed salad is super flavorful - the ability to have zucchini noodles in place of rice is a plus! They are still firm and not soggy (which seems to always happen elsewhere!) - largish cuts of fish where at other places, they are much smaller/mushier Definitely a great poke bowl when in the Boston area, and would highly recommend them for delivery

This was a solid place to get poke with vegan friendly options. I ordered a build your own bowl here. My two proteins were the tofu and the tofu skins. The tofu was very mushy and soggy, but the tofu skins were amazing with a chewy texture and sweet flavor. The avocado was also mushy and overripe, so sometimes it felt like I was eating fishy guacamole, which made the meal less appetizing. The mango complemented the bowl well, but there was uneven cuts and chunks. I loved the texture and savory flavor of the crispy onions, and the wasabi shoyu sauce was so delicious. I wished I ordered more of it! When I was picking up my order, the cashier didn't say a word to me at all. They definitely could be a lot more friendly and welcoming. Overall, while I had a mixed experience, I'll be coming back for a delicious vegan poke bowl with wasabi shoyu sauce and probably no avocado!

I enjoyed my poke bowl - I especially liked how I was able to add a bunch of toppings without paying extra. The raw salmon was delicious and the chunks of fish were pretty big. I ordered my bowl with a medium amount of sauce but it tasted a little more like light. The bowl did have a lot of rice in it which isn't my preference.

In the past, we've always gone to Pokeworks, but we decided to try Poke City because they have the option to have your bowl made with Zoodles! How awesome :) It really helps when you're trying to watch your calorie intake. The one thing with zoodles is that it doesn't soak up the juices like rice does, so it can get kind of watery at the bottom, but I usually just drain it and then add the sauce myself after. I really enjoy their poke and their topping options, especially the quality of their spicy tuna, but one thing I will say is that the protein servings are quite small. Even if you order your bowl with 3 proteins, the portions don't quite seem to measure up to that of Pokeworks. I still enjoy it though and it will definitely continue to be one of our go-to's.

    Katie C.

So happy to have a good poke place close by. I like that you can customize your bowl with as many toppings as you'd like (only a few cost extra, like avocado and crab). And I love the zucchini noodles! The prices are in line with others in the area. The service is friendly. There's a rewards card, which I'm well on my way to filling up. And the interior feels clean and bright.

    Lauren R.

AMAZING! I have never had poke before. I went here because they had vegan options for my friend and I am so glad I did! I got a bowl with brown rice, salmon, grilled chicken, avocado, mango and teriyaki sauce! It was out of this world. I will definitely be going back this week to have it again! If you are eating healthy, or like healthy food, or you just want something delicious for lunch try this place!!! Do not pass this place, go here!!! You don't regret it!! **the salmon is raw but it is super cold, fresh and delicious!

It comes with 2 bowls of miso soup, which were perfect on a cold winter night. The boat also includes a martini glass with seaweed salad, providing a refreshing, upscale palate cleanser when you need a moment's break from the fish. I was very impressed with the thick cuts for the sashimi, and the toppings on the nigiri also gave a tiny twist to the meal - while yuzu and jalapaeño are common pairings with raw fish, for example, the strawberry-on-salmon was a novel combo for me! The rolls also add appeal for any eating partners who enjoy their fish in another form. There isn't a lot of natural light/windows in the main seating area, so the lighting is dim and gives off an intimate ambiance that's perfect for a date night - no complaints about the service!

While called dumpling, it's more like a delicious fish rice ball with special sauce. The house special udon with shrimp, scallop, and fish cake was also really good. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken hibachi! It's good for being hungry because it comes with soup, veggies, rice, and some shrimp. It comes with yum yum sauce which goes well with everything and a sauce for the vegetables. The service was good, we did ask our questions about appetizers and she gave good recommendations. We didn't wait too long for the food. The ambiance here is great! They have Japanese decor on all the walls including paintings of cherry blossom, koi fish, Mt. Fuji, and even flowers on the roof. Overall, the food here is really good and this is a staple restaurant that I'll keep coming back to!

The restaurant is located inside a shopping center and has only a small amount of seating, giving it a cozy, homey feel. Pork Cutlet Curry: The restaurant specializes in fried foods, with the pork cutlet being their absolute signature dish. Although the cutlets were on the thinner, leaner side, each one was fried to order, resulting in a crispy exterior and tender, juicy interior, fragrant but not greasy. The breadcrumbs were especially fluffy and light, bursting with flavor on the palate, which was incredibly satisfying. The curry was authentic Japanese curry--rich, mild, and slightly spicy with a distinct fruity aroma, perfectly suited to my taste. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask for a runny egg for the $2 additional egg; otherwise, it would have been even better. And at only $15 a serving, including a salad/miso soup, it's incredibly good value for money, perfect for lunch. Fried Oysters: Also crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the oysters were fresh and juicy. The lemon juice and salad dressing were refreshing. I felt they were even more delicious than the pork cutlet. The place is located in Lesley University's Main Hall and has only four tables, so you may have to wait.

We walked into a fairly small space tucked away in Porter Square, with more of a functional, casual feel rather than a polished dining room. The seating was tight and the room filled up quickly, making it clear that this was the kind of place people go for a quick, filling meal rather than a long sit-down experience. The standout here is definitely the Japanese curry and katsu combinations. We ordered the pork tonkatsu curry, a go-to for many, and found it came with a thick, crispy cutlet served over rich curry sauce and rice. The curry itself leaned comforting and slightly sweet-savory in a way that felt very classic and approachable. The portions were generous for the price, and the hamburg steak and oyakodon were also solid options if you wanted something different from fried cutlet dishes. The food came out hot and well assembled, and the flavors were consistent with what we were hoping for. Service was fast and handled by a very small staff, so things moved quickly once we ordered. Because of how busy it can get during peak hours and how limited the seating is, there was a bit of a rush feel to the experience. It worked well as a quick lunch or casual dinner, but it was not really a place to linger for long. The seating situation is probably the biggest drawback. It fills up quickly, and the space feels tight, especially when there is a line forming. That said, the turnover is fast enough that you usually do not have to wait too long, even when it looks crowded from outside. Overall, Cafe Mami is a reliable spot for Japanese comfort food in the Porter Square area. The value is strong, the portions are generous, and the curry dishes are consistently satisfying. It is not fancy, but it does exactly what it is meant to do well, which is serve quick, filling, and comforting Japanese meals.

Most other ramen places I have been to include an abundance of toppings or even a soft-boiled egg. I guess the ramen bowl here could fill a craving, but not one I would go out of my way for. One annoying thing that happened with us is that our waiter gave us the runaround to get an advertised $1 discount with a student ID (1 star off). My son showed his student ID and then the waiter said we have to download their app too. I downloaded it, but then he said the app account needs to be in my son's name. I then changed the account to my son's name and showed him. Then the waiter said the email needs to be his school email address. Eh, nowhere on Earth does a *restaurant* marketing app requires a student's school email address. Then he started asking if my son goes to college or high school, and that he needs to clear with his manager if a high school ID is okay. At this point, it just seems like he was trying to make things extra difficult for us. He eventually said he got "permission" from his manager to apply the $1 discount for my son's high school ID. Good Lord -- this is not worth it at this point and left a negative impression about the establishment.
