This place just opened this past weekend. This is by far the best poke place in the Hampton Roads area. The seafood is fresh, and the wide assortment of protein, garnishes, and sauces allow for you to customize your dish. I got a smalln and my husband got a medium which was enough to fill our tummies. Came here slightly before lunch and was the only person in the place. There are a few options for protein, but I stuck with my usual spicy salmon and spicy tuna. The menu was quite simple to understand and there were lots of options for Veggies to add to the bowl. I ordered my bowl, and asked for it to be topped with extra spicy mayo/eel sauce on top, which I find makes a world of a difference when it comes to adding flavour to the bowl. The tempura bites at the end also add a great crunch for a textural element. Service was quick and courteous when I came, but at about noon... The people started coming in and it was quite the wait. Especially if you wanted a toasted protein since they only have 2 toasters. I probably wouldn't have been happy waiting in that line. Overall, the food was good... They just opened a couple weeks ago, and actually had their grand opening buy one get one last week. My sister and I came here the first week they opened and at that time they were offering half off bowls, so of course we took advantage of that. Oh I forgot to mention this was my very first time trying out poke... I've never really cared for raw food. But when I found out they had tofu, shrimp and cooked roasted salmon/scallop... I was like okay let me try this out. So I tried out the tofu and shrimp with spring mix, and added all the other goodies and let's just say I came back 2 other times for the same thing!! This used to be one of my favorite lunch spots. I have not been in awhile but went today and man the quality has unfortunately fallen badly. For one they changed the bowls to half the size they used to be and the prices also went up. I have no issue paying $15 for a good quality poke bowl but this was not it. after ordering i noticed everything was out except spicy tuna and tofu. When i got what was left of the proteins the scoops were sparse to say the least and i had to ask if i could have 2 whole scoops. Then moving down the line i asked for crab, they were out, I asked for masago, they were out. Green onions were old and had a very pungent smell. Finally I asked for a side of ponzu sauce and got soy sauce. I wish it was the same but unfortunately it's not. And being a Monday they shouldnt have been sold out of everything. read more

Needed a place to eat yesterday and Poketastic came up on a search of the area. Here are my thoughts: Food quality/price ratio: you're going to end up paying $10+ per bowl here (and that's for the small bowls). But honestly, the small bowls are enough. I'm a pretty big eater and I don't know if I would have wanted to eat a whole lot more. Atmosphere: Hard to say, times being what they are with COVID and all, we could not enter the actual establishment. It's open for pickup order only. Service: This is where I'm going to dock points from Poketastic. You should know before you go that you can't order over the phone or in-person for takeout. All you can do is order online at their website for takeout right now-- that's ok, I can't be mad about the different ways people are trying to stay safe right now. However, I didn't know that until we arrived, so I had to order using my phone while standing outside the place. Their ordering system told me that our three small bowls would be finished in half an hour. Now, again-- I'm not a poke expert, but from the outside it appears to me that the hardest work is done on the front end-- actually preparing the ingredients. Assembling the bowl SEEMS like it should take only a few minutes. But I'm not an expert, so take that with a grain of salt. When we finally do get our order, it's incomplete. We only receive two of our bowls, not the three we order. We point this out to the guy who brings it to our car, and he says he'll go check on that for us. He takes the two bowls, and then disappears for what feels like another 15 minutes (it was probably more like 10-12). When he finally reappears with our three bowls he says, "Got all three!" He gives them to us, no explanation on the wait, no apology for getting it wrong, just business as usual. Overall, the food's ok, but I'm sure there are better options out there. We spent 45 minutes and about 40 dollars (with tip) for a generally unsatisfactory takeout experience. read more

Next is your protein, they have options here for fish lovers as well as those who like cooked protein as well. When it comes to toppings, Poketastic has a TON of options! I ordered a small bowl to go but the portion was so big I couldn't finish. The quality of the food is actually really good with the mix of different options you can choose from. I like the setup here when you go to order, it's like a build a nearbear but for your mouth! It's nice to have personal interaction with the staff preparing your bowl. Other places have you order on a tablet and it just seems so impersonal. I was looking for something to enjoy as a cheat meal and this was definitely the meal. I have only been to one other Poke style restaurant ad that was in San Diego so I didn't know what to try. The guy preparing my food (I wish I had gotten his name) was super helpful. He recommended a signature bowl, I believe Tuna Tataki, and it was sooo good. A small was enough for my appetite. 1 serving of white rice with 2 proteins. They had a good variety. I had salmon and spicy tuna. The amount of toppings seemed endless. I added spicy mayo and gochujang sauce, which they mix it in with your protein before adding to your rice. Then I got avocado, seaweed salad, ginger, green onions, tempura flakes, and masago. The cashier was very nice and helpful. They have punch cards, too. When I got home, I probably blinked and my food was gone. It was absolutely delicious. I'm happy a good poke place is close by. I think the only thing I would like to see is suggested combinations. With so many options, a newbie might not know what works best together. It's not like ordering a sub. I went here for lunch the other day and forgot to check in. But over all the food was good. I had the large bowl (4 proteins) with spicy tuna (x2), yellow fin and tuna. All the fish was fresh and tasted great. The service was good even though they were very busy with a number of call ahead orders they were dealing with. My only complaint was for the price, I would have liked a larger portion, but I have to say I wasn't hungry when i left. Update: I went back for lunch the day before yesterday and again the food and service was great. And to top it off it seemed like my portion was noticeably larger, so I am bumping up my review from a 4 to 5 stars. Hopefully the second day was the norm, not the anomaly. read more

Certainly not authentic, however quite tasty and nostalgic of my days in Oahu. A decent array of toppings although the best way to have poke is a simplistic as possible. I preface this review with years of being a Pome enthusiast, and 4 years of eating local Hawai'i Poke...NOTHING has come close! The meat choices: typical, spicy, ahi, and salmon...additionally, chicken and tofu bring some diversity however, not necessary - but I get the fact that it may be appealing to a broader customer base. Quality: I opted for the ahi and spicy tuna. The spicy tuna was pretty good; the ahi however, seemed either not a good quality grade or was overly handled and/or cut with a dull knife. It seemed to be too mushy and not firm with a good meaty bite that quality ahi has. Maybe it wasn't cold enough? IDK...just didn't seem to measure up to authentic Poke. I was impressed with the sauce and toppings selection but disappointed that there wasn't a ginger sauce or sesame seed topping. I'd definitely come back, when my taste buds next long for a glimpse of nostalgia...I may try and visit soon for another shot; this initial visit did not do Poke' any favors. read more

Was just passing through on the way to the airport, but glad we decided to stop off here for a quick lunch. Loved the variety of toppings (especially the lotus root and tamago!) and that the portion is actually satisfying And reasonably priced. The best part is that there are no limits on toppings with no additional charge (with the exception of avocado, which is $1 more). Most poke places will fill the bowl with rice and other fillers instead of actual fish, but they don't do that here. Worst customer from the manager ever Due to virus I had to order on line. My food was deliverers to Me at the door. I get back to work and there was no sauce and and they forgot my avocado. I called and spoke to the person and she asked me what did I want her to do. I was appalled. Fist she said I could bring my bowl back there for extra sauce. I said ma'am I'm at work and can't come back due to me being at work. So she asked me well what do u want me to do. Menu was confusing enough that the girl making the bowl was unsure on many of the ingredients, and the mix-ins themselves were weak at best. $15 later I walked out with a bowl of mostly rice, some bland and dry veggies, and a scoop of overly aggressive goopy "wasabi" to accompany my minuscule amounts of PROTEIN.
