I've been to Pokey plenty of times at this point, and I just went again this time with my man who is super picky and even he agreed the wings were really good. We got the sweet chili Thai wings and the soy garlic wings. Both were delicious. He said they tasted the same, but I don't fully agree they're both on the sweeter side, but you can still tell the difference in flavor. Either way, both are really good and I'd get them again. He also got the taro boba. He liked it, but I personally am not a fan of their taro boba. It has this powdery taste to me that I don't get from other places, so I usually skip the drinks there. There was a bit of a mix-up with ordering. They have a value deal where you get 6 wings + a boba for about $9.95. I accidentally ordered just the wings for $8.95 thinking I'd be getting more wings for the price. That wasn't the case it was still just 6 wings. My man got the value deal and basically got the better deal with the drink included. I tried to see if I could just pay the dollar difference to add the boba after, but they said no since the order was already placed, so lesson learned: just get the combo. Even with that, the wings are still worth it. Also, the dumplings are really good the pork ones especially. I think I liked the beef ones a little more last time, but these were still solid. Came in for a smoothie to beat the heat. They have a touch screen to order so there isn't much interaction with the people that work there. Smoothie took about 15 minutes to be made which was a little longer than I was expecting considering there was only one other person waiting for food but, they apologized when they gave it to me so it was all good. I got a mango strawberry smoothie with mango popping boba. It was exactly what I needed in this summer heat. Prices were pretty affordable for the amount of smoothie you get. It was only a couple of blocks from my hotel, and I was a little hesitant when I initially walked in, and there were no customers. But, inside you'll find great bubble tea, fresh ingredients, yummy ramen and poke, and great customer service. I've been eating at Pokey for years now, and the quality has never diminished. When it comes to Poké bowls, Pokey is my go-to. Not only do they have bowls, but they also do sushi burritos, ramen, desserts, and bubble tea! Everyone who works there is diligent and mixes the ingredients with love and affection. I say this because every bite I take, no matter what part of the bowl I'm in, is packed with flavor. I don't feel like there's too much rice, it's all properly portioned. My favorite part is how much sauce they add with the mix-ins. You can also request sauce on top as well! My poke bowl started off with brown rice as the base. Raw salmon is my favorite protein (the cooked shrimp mixes well with it too!). I chose the mix-ins mango, pineapple, edamame, and cucumber with miso, sweet mango, and classic poke sauce. Next layer had crab salad, (avocado on occasion), seaweed salad, and sweet corn. I top it with furikake, tempura crisps, and sesame seeds and ask for a drizzle of spicy mayo and eel sauce to finish. My order today was delivered and it arrived way before the estimated arrival time and came in an adorable box! All the utensils were there and some napkins and soy sauce. The people who work there are kind and generous. They make quality food and quality drinks! I love their milk teas! Liked this place the first time but the next wasn't a good experience. My son and I got poked bowls to go so that we can go sit on a park bench and eat. We got them, drove to the park and found a bench to start eating...opened the bag and found no forks to eat with. Pack our food back up and drive back to get forks. Head back to the park to sit and eat, open the lid to the poke bowls and neither of them had a single DROP of sauce on them (which we clearly ordered sauce on our receipt).... My burrito had spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp, mango, avocado, seaweed salad, and crab, and it was all so good and filling as well! We each got bowls (1 rice, 1 salad) with 2 proteins (ahi/salmon, ahi/scallops) and scored 2 FREE Boba teas thanks to an advertised special. Total cost, $25 + tip. Downtown parking challenges aside, Pokey had lots to offer: clean, quiet (a bit too quiet), ample seating, easy to navigate menu and well staffed. Both employees were helpful and moved quickly. When I stalled in sauce choices, one asked "like sweet, salty, savory, or spicy?" After I said "sweet and salty," they made a sample concoction to taste that was excellent! "Yes, I'll take that." This is the Hawaiian equivalent of Moe's/Subway as BYO (build your own) food culture applies here among an abundance of customizable mix-ins and toppings (that I actually like), included at one price. My combo of mangos, jalapeños, edamame, cucumbers, sweet corn, seaweed salad, ginger, wasabi, masago, and avacados (lone upcharge item, +$1) was very good; the fresh composition of ingredients + greens blended beautifully with the flavor profiles of the sauce combo (miso and mango?), not to mention a healthy portion served in a resealable to-go container (that didn't make it out of the place - I was hungry). Easily a 4.5! Oh, it was ready in under 5 minutes, perfect for 30 minute lunch breaks! I RARELY consume dairy but hey, a FREE boba is a FREE boba. You can select your sweetness level, though I didn't know "0" was an option. I liked the hint of green tea but ultimately it's not my thing; the milk is filling and dominates the overall flavor, plus negates any little health benefit. It gets a 3.5 from me. Long and the short? Pokey is a place I'll definitely return to, especially incentivized by a rewards card, "buy 10 (poke), 11th is free!" Options are plentiful and unlike other poke restaurants, most toppings are no additional cost. I got a create your own bowl with half brown rice and half salad greens, with double spicy tuna and an array of toppings. Everything is easily customizable, and there is an option for a salad and sushi burrito, as well. Portions are generous! The other seafood options looked decent, but my spicy tuna tasted as if it were thawed out - had a strange consistency. All of the other toppings made up for it, however. My fiancé ordered the Taro boba tea (you can select varying levels of sweetness, which is nice), which was a refreshing way to follow up the meal. Was it my favorite poke bowl? Due to COVID restrictions, there is no public restroom and no seating inside. Luckily, there is plenty of outdoor seating nearby on Granby Street and on the water. This is a great place to grab a quick on-the-lunch or a sweet treat after a meal (which is what we were looking for). This employee's rude & unfair treatment possibly set the stage for my meal & the duration of my dining experience. Boba tea was ok. Too many tapioca pearls, very sweet, & the drink was warm. I've had it served cold at other establishments. Not sure how it should be served. Not sure of the purpose for the high-end shaking machine. It didn't taste like it made a difference. We did not finish this drink. This was my daughter's first bowl which I clearly stated(because I was happy & excited) and advised she may need some help. I was hoping the female employee would have been more helpful, speak, or at least smile. I, too, am fairly new to this poke bowl experience and would have preferred interaction. I am familiar however with fishing, fresh fish, Korean Chirashi(which are very similar IMO depending who makes it), sushi, customer service, life, etc.. I digress. Portion was a lot and the taste of the yellowtail killed it for me. Eating raw fish is basically playing Russian Roulette. I left spending approximately $30 for poor service and lackluster poke. Maybe it was an off day. Maybe it was the rude associate. I did not enjoy. First impression is everything. This was my experience at Pokey and clearly not everyone else's. 4.5 Stars I recently got addicted to Poke so I am trying to find the best poke place in Hampton Roads. Pokey is the 3rd restaurant I visited. Pokey is located in Granby St. in Norfolk. Compared to other poke places, they also serve cakes and boba tea. The best thing about this place is their customer service. The staff is very helpful and offered to give samples of the sauces. The ambiance of the restaurant is great and is really clean. Their portioning is huge and has the biggest bowl out of the 3 poke restaurants I've been to. They only offer up to 3 proteins for the bowls. The 2 proteins are for $10.95 and 3 protein are for $12.95, which is a little pricey compared to the others. I got the shrimp protein and spicy ponzu and mayo. From the food taste, the classic poke and spicy mayo sauces are great as well and I'm thinking of putting that on my next visit. The only thing I was kind of disappointed is their crab salad. It seems very plain to me. My bowl tasted good and is very delicious. When I almost finished my bowl, I kind of wanted to get another bowl. On my next visit, I might try their bobas as well. Also, I am glad that they offer punch cards for a free poke after 10 pokes. I also love that they have promotions like 30% on poke every Saturdays. So if you are around downtown Norfolk or just going to the mall, make sure to stop by at this place. I have visited this place twice now. First time I got bubble tea and it was great. Pretty standard with the options and you can choose your sweetness level. Second time I went I tried a poké bowl. This was my first time having poké but I've heard great things. I wasn't disappointed. I got the sushi rice and 2 proteins (shrimp and scallops). There are a lot of topping options ranging from spicy to sweet. I got seaweed salad, crab salad, and a few other things. There are about 6-8 different sauces to choose from and you can mix and match. They let me try before I chose so that was helpful! Overall I was very impressed and glad to finally try poké. Staff was a little short handed with only one person working/managing the store. I was in no rush so it didn't bother me. But he took his time and helped me figure out what I wanted. Be sure to get a stamp card so you can keep coming back and get rewarded. Finding a place to eat around here on your lunch break is never a problem-- however when you want something unique such as poke, you can't just "walk" across the street for some...till now! I happened to be visiting Norfolk and saw a lot of great reviews for this place. My review is based on my UberEATS order. I ordered a sushi burrito and a milk tea with boba. The sushi burrito came in a box without any wrap and just rolling around in the box which seemed unsanitary. Luckily my hands were clean when I was eating this but usually sushi burritos come with a paper wrapping (like for sandwiches) so it threw me off that the burrito had no wrapping. It was still good and I enjoyed it. The milk tea boba was good too.
