Tried this place after my best friend mentioned it was close to my childhood home. Large selection flog poke bowls, ramen and appetizers. Highly recommend the wings (appetizer) and ramen is great as well. Coming back to try their Pokebowls.

First things first, the fresh veggies and large portions are EVERYTHING! I ordered take-out via Yelp and was delighted to receive my Poké Bowl Pick 2 and Matcha-Berri Latté neatly and cleanly packaged in a paper bag. The mango and veggies in my poké bowl were incredibly fresh and tasty, in which the fried onion, garlic crisps, and roasted seaweed added a welcoming and balanced, crunchy texture. However, the chicken and tofu are very plain so I recommend ordering different meats and trying out their sauces (the sriracha mayo and ginger sesame sauces are stellar options) if you are seeking something with more flavor and zest. Photos make the bowls look smaller, but in actuality, they are generously larger in portion-size! As for the drink, it was refreshing with a harmonious balance of sweetness, matcha, and strawberry--the perfect summery (and totally photogenic) drink for your quality boba fix! For ordering online, I recommend using their website (domoishi.com) so you can utilize available discounts and thoroughly customize items to your own preferences. Street parking is available outside the store, and staff is very kind, fast, and friendly upon picking up! Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience, and I look forward to trying more items in the future!

We were around MacArthur Mall and we refused to eat the poke place from their food court. Since Domoishi is around the area, we decided to give this location a try. I've been to other locations and we wanted to see why people like Domoishi a lot. We ordered medium sized poke bowls. Compared to other poke places I've been to, this restaurant gives the smallest servings. For the first time, I feel like I was still hungry after our meal. Also, I didn't like the idea that we didn't get to see the things they put on our bowls. Like the other Domoishi that I tried, the only good thing about this place was their mango smoothie. It wasn't too sweet or sour. It's just right. The staff weren't too friendly compared to the other poke places that I've been to. Plus, they need to smile more. I'm not sure if I'll be back at this location.

Poke Bowl Pick 3 with extra spicy tuna and salmon option.

My Proteins are present but it doesn't seem like much (even with me adding the 'extra spicy tuna and salmon' option). There are no fish eggs or avocado. Not quite worth the 18 dollars for the bowl alone IMO. It wasn't busy inside either. I wonder if I did something wrong. The Boba Tea was pleasant and the staff informed me after seeing my order that they didn't have any mango jelly so I opted for strawberry jelly. Might try again but the portions seem minimal for such a grand bowl they stock.

Unexpected ramen place at Norfolk when we actually looking for boba tea. When we consulted the Yelp posting by local Yelpers, we bump into this place. The restaurant actually selling the combo meal with ramen and the boba tea for $12.99. Good deal. We definitely make it as a meal. I got the tonkutsu ramen and my wife got the spicy tonkutsu. The ramen is very decent. The noodle is separated nicely. The charsiew Pork actually Roll and cut. It is follow the traditional way of doing it. The soup base has nicely touched. Each us also get the taro lover and Grass Hopper. The tea is lightly brew but it has a nice smell. The Taro lover has boba and the Grass Hopper is actually mango jelly. Both boba tea are well presented. Service is good. The food do not need to wait for long. The decorations in the shop has two nicely lid palm tree.

Cute setting. Bland ramen broth. Sweet tea. I had the mango funtime tea with sweetness at 50% and it was already very sweet to me. So if you're not a big sweets person, best believe that the 75% and 100% sweetness level is probably not for you. I got the ramen with the pork protein, which I feel was a better choice because it added to the flavor since the broth was bland. It lacked some saltiness to it. My boyfriend had the seafood ramen, and it was fairly bland though you can discern the seafoody taste of the broth. The cashier wasn't too inviting. She looked done with the job and had no enthusiasm whatsoever.

    "milk" tea

Ordered only two things ahead. Milk boba and a small appetizer. When i got to the place, i had to reenter my order and it didn't help that the only worker did not speak english. After waiting for what felt like an eternity, guess what i get. God damn water boba. No milk in my damn tea. Literally the only thing i ordered. This place blows go to kung fu tea instead.

First time here and I had the chicken tonkutsu ramen, this place is like the fast food version of what you actually want to eat. The broth was bland and I had to add the spicy sauce that's readily available. Even the shrimp shumai was bland I'm not sure how that's managed to accomplish that. The service was great, very polite and willing to help modify your order.

This is a new Ramen spot that opened up just a few weeks ago on Monticello Avenue, nestled tightly between Sushi King and a 7-11, and one that also happens to serve Bubble (Boba) Tea and other drinks. I first noticed the Yamachan sign on their front door last November, along with their "Opening Soon" sign. The Yamachan name sounded familiar to me, causing me to suspect a chain operation. I ran a Google search and found their corporate website with the same company logo I saw on their door. http://yamachanramen.com/ They are based in San Jose, California, and are affiliated with Nippon Trends Food Service, Inc. They sell commercial Ramen products to Asian markets and restaurants all across the United States. I also found their corporate Facebook page and asked them when their new Norfolk restaurant was expected to open. Their reply was as follows: "Unfortunately, it is not our restaurant, but they will be using Yamachan products. Please stop by and enjoy Yamachan Ramen." I also found the Boba-Bola Tea website, where they list the same products as those shown on their Norfolk menu. A toll free phone number is listed for franchising opportunities, but with no information as to where they are located: http://boba-bola.com/ This restaurant appears to be marriage of sorts between these two corporate entities. The decor is attractive and colorful, highlighted by the sparkles of a flashing red palm tree. I counted a total of 6 tables and 24 seats in the dining area, as well as a couple of soft easy chairs in the back near the restrooms for a cozy feel. As the menu will show (See photo), they utilize a "Build Your Own" Ramen concept. You first choose your Soup Base, which can be ordered either Mild or Spicy, and then your Protein. Standard toppings are listed for all of their Ramen dishes with the option to eliminate any of them. So far I have tried the following with all of their standard toppings included: SPICY CHICKEN SHOYU WITH CHICKEN CHASU: The broth was bland and not as spicy as desired. Some of the toppings were sloppily presented, including the seaweed, which was floating on top of the broth. Some of the chicken was a bit tough. On the positive side, the noodles were pleasantly spongy and springy with a full bodied texture. My Rating: 2.5 Stars. SPICY TONKOTSU SHOYU WITH PORK CHASU: The broth for this one had more depth and flavor, although the pork bone broth was not as creamy as I like. One of the pork slices contained a bit too much fat. The seaweed topping was nowhere to be found. This time I spiced it up a little from a shaker of Nanami Togarashi, a powdered chili pepper, until my hot tooth smiled. Once again, the noodles were pleasantly spongy and springy with a nice texture. My Rating: 3.5 Stars. I also tried one of their Boba Teas from their list of Specialty Drinks. You can choose your own sweetness level at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%. TARO LOVER: Sweet Taro with Premium Cream and Pearl Boba. I love the taste of taro, so this one was my choice, along with the 100% sweetness level, fully iced. It was pleasant and refreshing. The tapioca pearls were large and exhibited a nice soft yet chewy texture. I only wish the taro mix was a bit stronger. My Rating: 4 Stars. In addition to their Boba Teas, they also offer Smoothies, Slushies, and Milk Shakes. You can also create your own drink with either a Black Tea or a Green Tea Base. Service has been friendly so far, with a little inexperience shown by my counter person during my first visit. She asked me to pay my tip right after ordering at the counter, even before receiving my food. She wasn't there during my second visit, and they are still hiring and training their staff members. At this time, the Ramen I have tasted here so far comes in fourth place out of the five Ramen spots I have tried in Norfolk. The two Ramen spots in Ghent, as well as the one off Military Highway (See my last review), come out way ahead. The Ramen I tried in Waterside last year comes in dead last. Overall, I find their Ramen to be passable so far with much room for improvement, which I believe will be made over time with more experience. I'll be back soon to see and hopefully taste the results.

A nice, personable apology from the employees at Yamachan Ramen & Boba-Bola. (:

I had the Ebi (shrimp) curry ramen. The curry was very flavorful but different than both Jamaican and Indian curries. I don't like that they keep the tails on the shrimp even though it's in the ramen. I also had salmon rice balls as well as Shumai. The shumai was good and so were the rice balls, but never having had rice balls, they weren't what I was expecting. I expected them to have meat in them but it was just rice with salmon flavored powder. We also added hot green tea to our meal. While not anything special, I do like to end my meal this way. The service was pretty good but we didn't like that our waitress stood next to our table from the moment we sat down. We felt pressured to hurry up and order, and it just made things awkward. She was very attentive though. This restaurant is your typical local Japanese style restaurant. Very authentic in its feel and decor - nothing fancy, basic service. But if you like more authentic type dishes vs chain restaurants, I think this is a place to try! Oh, I will also add this place was alot less expensive than places like Domoishi! I give it a 3 star because I feel neutral about it - not because anything was super wrong about it!
