I love that they offer brown rice too which seems to be very unusual in Virginia Beach. Each meal comes in three sizes and the small was more than enough for my wife. We went in on a whim for the first time & we're so glad we did! I'm not huge on Asian food as it always leaves me feeling heavy but I do enjoy teriyaki chicken from time to time. The service was nice, we were welcomed warmly and when we expressed it was our first time, the cashier happily offered to go over how the menu worked. We ended up ordering steak teriyaki and chicken teriyaki bowls. I definitely wish I went with the jr. bowl as it is FILLING, but now I have yummy left overs! Flavor was great, didn't feel heavy at all & they're given in to-go plastic containers so they're easy to take out. The restaurant had plenty of indoor and our door seating but the table we sat at while waiting was sticky which would've been my only issue. Had had not realized it had been 10 years since I had been here. And then I didn't have a great experience the first time. But the time in place were right, so I stopped for lunch and it was a great experience! Place was clean, people were attentive and smiling and my food got ready quick, it was hot and delicious with very good sized overall proportions and the proportions of the ingredients were also spot on. The mix was well proportioned throughout once all mixed up together. I'd have appreciated some more variety in terms of beverages, but the basics are there. I was hesitant to give them a chance based on the over all reviews but was really craving something other than the regular old "fast" or "quick" finish options. I've come here twice this week and have been pretty satisfied both times. Both times were around dinner time and took less than 15 mins. The first time I got the spicy chicken and the second time I got the regular. Spicy is definitely my favorite. First time I got the regular and it was a decent amount of food. I got the large this time hoping it would have a lot more veggies and chicken but it seemed like it was maybe a small thigh or even half a big thigh extra and maybe a 1/4 cup extra veggies. But there's definitely like an extra cup of rice. Not the end of the world but I was really wanting some extra veggies tonight. Guess next time I'll just have to do all veggies instead of half and half. The one thing that seems like really needs attention is customer service training. Both times I wasn't greeted at all. First time I ordered in store. The guy walked up to the register and just stared at me. No smile or hey! What can I get you!? Nothing. Second time I ordered online and walked in and all that was said was "who are you picking up for". Definitely not the worst customer service I've ever gotten but definitely has lots of room for improvement. The restaurant is tidyish. I was really looking forward to trying this place for the first time. My experience here was unsatisfactory to say the least. Here is my feedback on product and service: Customer service: Don't expect a smile. Not a friendly atmosphere. I waited over 20 min for my order while everyone who ordered after me is getting their food. A common courtesy to let me know the status of my order would have been appreciated. Also, I'm appalled watching my food being cooked. The guy is literally tapping his head without gloves, and no hat nor hairnet. This screams health code violation. How is this excusable and why is he the only employee without a hat or gloves while preparing food?? Customer service definitely needs improvement, as well as adhering to rules about food safety, hygiene, and/or sanitation. Product: I ordered the large chicken teriyaki with all veggies. The portion I received was not what I expected. I can't imagine what regular size is. However, it was tasty. The chicken was juicy and charred nicely. The veggies was steamed..I think. But took over 20 min. Based on customer service, I would definitely not tip until food is served. I didn't receive the best welcoming experience. Their food is fairly customizable as you pick your protein (chicken, beef, spicy chicken, etc), then your base (rice, brown, fried, white or noodles) with or without veggies. I ordered the chicken breast bowl, fried rice with veggies, extra teriyaki. Regular size as a combo (combo nets you a drink and an egg roll.) My friend chose the spicy chicken, noodles, with veggies. We forgot to order him a drink. We also got the potstickers and crab rangoon appetizers. Our potstickers were very limp, almost devoid of any crispy bits at all. The sauce they included was a light amber and just a little sweet. I don't mind sweet, but I prefer a more balance dumpling sauce that is both sweet and savory. Overall I'd rather heat up some bibigo at home. Our chicken egg roll was good. Crispy, with a tasty filling. I did have to ask for soy sauce packets as they also included the light amber, slightly sweet 'sauce' with them as well. The crab Rangoon rated an 'ok.' The fountain drinks do get an A+ on taste. My bowl - the chicken breast teriyaki was quite dry and overcooked. I'm glad I asked for extra sauce, it appears they drizzle a little over when done. The rice and veggies were also ok. My friends spicy chicken bowl wasn't very spicy or flavorful, instead he found the best part of the bowl was the noodles. The actual restaurant I could see was decently kept apart from a sticky patch in front of the drink machine, the bathrooms pass muster, well at least the ladies did. The ladies smelled of a top note of lavender with faintly floral 'other' behind it. My friend informs me the men's room smelled like death, warm and sitting by the side of the road for three days and he has a terrible sense of smell.Things were completely copacetic until one employee starting cursing up a storm, upsetting another employee and having some random sporadic outbursts of the Fuzz word and other, unpleasant and angry sounding sentiments. I don't mind some cursing but he was being a jerk to her, and one should strive to be at least semi professional on the clock. At one point I almost left the food on the table because he was being so vitriolic. I couldn't understand most of what he said apart from the aforementioned Fuzz word because we were seated next to the soda machine and it emitted a fair amount of white noise. My friend did hear more of her part where she asked him to take a break and the angry dude said I don't want no fuzzin break. Overall I do not think I shall be patronizing this establishment again. When the orders are prepared they are put into a warming locker, which is good. The problem is that if you order additional items, like the marshmallow bar, they'll forget to put it in your bag. I wasn't sure about what to get because I thought it was a Mongolian type place where they fix the food in front of you, but nope! I ordered from the children's menu...it's my first time, so all I need is a small portion. And the reviews I read, this place is hit or miss. I ordered spicy chicken, but perhaps I should have order chicken teriyaki...but my meal was good. However, I was a little thrown off because the order had onions in it and I don't like onions so that was bit of a turn off so that was -1 star. If there's a next time perhaps they can prepare the order without onions. The flavor was yummy...seasoned well. I can't complain too much because I ate it all! Oh, the kids meal comes with a drink too! Go at your own risk, but don't go in with high expectations like I did. I ordered the large bowl/plate of spicy chicken and everything was cooked together. When brought to the table, that thing was packed, but in my opinion, too much noodles. So, to make a long rambling short; I moved to Virginia Beach from Seattle... in Seattle, there is a Teriyaki joint in every strip mall and even small towns are not left without at least one nice little family that opens up a Teriyaki shop. Teriyaki was our go-to in high school (which was over a decade ago) and it was one of the things I missed the most after moving here. I learned to make it myself (sauce from scratch and all), but it's still never quite the same. Enter: Teriyaki Madness! While you can get teriyaki at Japanese restaurants in the area, there is something about a little place like this that offers a simple menu of teriyaki, rice, noodles, veggies, and a few other easy and palette-pleasing dishes at a reasonable cost. They're marinaded long and grilled hot. One of the things I love most about their teriyaki sauce is how prominent that garlic and ginger in the sauce are... yum! They don't just rely on the sugar in the sauce for flavor, which is refreshing! I have had a little bit of everything here so far, and it's an easy win for my family... my kids can order pretty much anything (even the veggies or salad) and be happy... I can get either veggie yakisoba or chicken teriyaki and be well pleased, and the portions in a bowl are enough to sate even my husband's appetite, which is not small. I prefer to order my chicken grilled a little crispy, which they've been happy to do each time I've been in. It was tasty, but better with a squirt of Sriracha on it. Nice gal at the counter who was more than patient with the customer in front of me who had some real issues with their decision making processes. It is a very sad day. My daughter and I love Teriyaki Madness We eat there about once a week after she practices at a field around the block. Today, we we left practice, I got the food as normal, and drove home. We always eat at home because she is young and needs to get home. When we got home, my food was definitely off. It was very dry, no flavor whatsoever. I thought maybe since it was a to go order, maybe someone put sauce in the bag or something. It happens sometimes. But nope, no sauce. I live 20 minutes away and do not have the ability to drive all the way out there for sauce, plus they were going to close in like 6 minutes. So I gave them a call and explained what had happened and respectfully requested a refund. The gentleman who answered the phone was extremely nice and said he would get a manager and be right back. He came back on the phone and explained the food was cooked a certain way and that's why it tastes like that. I was pretty taken aback because that is not something I would expect a manager to say, or have his employee report back to a customer over the phone. I asked if the manager had said that. He said no, that's what the cook said. I then asked again to speak to the manager. The manager came on and listened while I explained the situation. He then started gaslighting me and trying to poke holes in my account and suggested it was my fault the food tasted like crap because it is a cook to order location and 20 minutes would soak up all the sauce and flavor and leave it like it was when I got home. I told him I found his accusatory remarks appalling and I couldn't believe he would talk to a customer like that. I have never had a problem with the food there before and have never called like this before, but I dropped over $30 tonight for dinner for two just to have mine messed up and then told hey, its not us, its you. Are you kidding me???? He said, well, there is 4 minutes until we close, bring it back. Seriously? I will say the same thing to you that I said to him. The customer service I received tonight was apalling. I have made that drive dozens of times with my food and never had it taste like that before. If this is your new standard than god help anyone who orders your food via doordash or ubereats since per one of your managers, you cant expect the food to maintain its proper taste after 5 minutes of hitting a plate.
