Shrimp and Chicken and Shrimp with veggies

The place is very, the customer service was great. But for 18.00 the portions are very small. The food flavor was okay nothing outstanding. It's okay but I can't see myself coming there again.

I've picked up food from Iron Grill 3 times in the past week. Ultimately, I can't provide them a glowing recommendation. Their service is fine and their facility is clean, but there is something lacking with their food. I've had their chicken & shrimp hibachi, their hibachi steak & chicken & shrimp and their shumai, but it took my mom to help me pinpoint the issue - their proteins actually taste like they are frozen and packaged. The biggest culprit in regard to this lies with their steak - it just doesn't have the right taste or texture to be considered steak. I'm not expecting Grade A wagyu beef, but when compared to the similarly hibachi-style Sarku (inside Lynnhaven Mall), there is a difference. Maybe I should stay away from Iron Grill's steak altogether, but they also tend to overcook their chicken (I came across too many overly dry pieces of chicken). I had a chance to try their sushi - we ordered the Iron Grill roll (spicy crab meat, avocado, grilled salmon, salmon & avocado on top with eel spicy mayo), Volcano roll (tuna, cucumber & crab meat; deep fried with spicy mayo & eel sauce & sriracha sauce on top) & a Spicy Tuna roll. All three rolls were solid - I would return for those. Finally, I'm not impressed at all with their fried rice. Their fried rice appears to be just rice cooked with an inferior soy sauce. I would go so far as to say they might pour soy sauce into some steamed rice, mix it and that's it (no frying involved). White/steamed rice is the best way to go since your proteins are already cooked with soy sauce and especially because the soy sauce they use is salty. Iron Grill gets a so-so recommendation from me. Maybe stick with the sushi, avoid the steak and choose regular steamed rice and you'll be good to go. I appreciate you, though, Iron Grill. Thank you for your effort. JV

I tried this place and I'm overall disappointed. I walked in and said hello to the person standing behind the counter and they didn't say anything. If they said something it must have been in their head. I ordered using the kiosk because the person behind the counter doesn't take orders you have to use the kiosk. The kiosk has no images when ordering they all say image unavailable. I ordered the chicken and steak hibachi with an egg roll. The egg roll was hot and tasty. The chicken was DRY and the steak was chewy. I ordered it dine-in and received it to-go. The resultant was clean.

Cool decide and vibe! Place seems to be always busy and most are take out. Orderd California sushi, shumi and shrimp/ steak combo with grilled vegetables. Shumi was fine. Too much rice on the roll. And honestly the sauce made the combo! It's the sauce people!

Nice little mall style hibachi resteraunt with a dining area. Prices are fair and food is cooked fresh to order. Staff is friendly and attentive and there as self serve kiosks to order. I ordered the chicken, steak and shrimp hibachi and poured the yum yum sauce over it. Spent about 16 bucks and had dinner, and enough for lunch and dinner the next day. Great value for the price to be honest. Will definitely come back if I'm ever nearby again.

We tried this place out due to proximity, but overall we would return. The restaurant is modern and clean and the staff were friendly and patient. There are limited options, but you can customize seasoning, protein, and veggies. We ended up trying all the protein and the shrimp was by far the best. Don't expect a 5 star Hibachi experience, but it's simple, good, and affordable food.

Recommended! This was our first time at Iron Grill. We had the steak and shrimp hibachi. The ingredients were pre-cooked instead of being cooked to order on the grill. The steak was moist and tender. The shrimps were cooked to perfection. The vegetables were tender and the rice was delicious. It was not salty. The shrimp tempura sushi was DELICIOUS! Staff were friendly. You enter your order at the kiosk and it is prepared very quickly. Sorry, I didn't take pictures of the food, because we wanted to eat it hot. I will add pictures from our next order. We plan to go back soon! They gave a seating area inside the building.

Food was GREAT! Loved the service. Ordered two steak and jumbo shrimp plates and two different sushi rolls. Food was fresh and delicious.

Ive been twice so far. First time was alright. Was decent food for a decent price. 2nd time i ordered online. Picked it up and got home. And have teriyaki chicken with no teriyaki sauce? So the 2nd visit was disappointing because i didn't wanna drive back for sauce... so very 50/50 with this place.

SKIP Kotobuki in Norfolk - Worst Sushi Experience EVER…read more Kotobuki in Ghent is a disaster. I gave this long-running spot a second chance, after a poor first experience, and it was a mistake. A friend insisted we return, and the service was shockingly bad, the sushi was subpar and the overall experience was the worst. From the moment you walk in, Kotobuki screams neglect: dead plants, servers dressed like they're doing yard work and a pervasive smell of old fry oil. We had reservations for the "traditional Japanese" sunken-table room, where we removed our shoes and climbed into our seats. One dirty pair of slippers sat at our table, while a random pair of construction boots lay abandoned nearby. The "ambiance" was completed by 70s soft rock -- Lionel Richie instead of "traditional Japanese" music. Our server took my order for a dirty Stoli martini, then disappeared for an absurd amount of time only to return and say they couldn't make it -- with no explanation. We hunted through the limited menu while our server vanished completely. The owner eventually stopped by, and I had to specifically request a sushi list. Tired of sitting cross-legged, I briefly put my feet into the pit under the table. Rather than place my bare feet on the filthy floor, I slipped my shoes back on for a moment. That's when the owner's daughter stormed over and aggressively accused me of saying, "Screw you and screw Kotobuki -- I'm not following the rules!" She launched into a rude, insulting lecture about "Japanese custom" while I sat there stunned. I immediately took my shoes off again, just to de-escalate, but the evening was ruined. No customer should be verbally assaulted over something as basic as not wanting bare feet on an obviously dirty floor. In an awkward position, not wanting to ruin the evening, I ordered my food. The sake was watery and flavorless, the house salad was sad, wilted iceberg lettuce drowning in bottled ginger dressing, and the sushi arrived lukewarm with questionable rice that called for a palate blinding amount of wasabi. It was boring, poorly prepared, and far below average. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Hand to God! Had this not been a special evening with a dear friend, I would have walked out the second the owner's daughter chastised me at the table. Management at Kotobuki clearly doesn't care about customer service or basic standards -- especially when family members are allowed to treat patrons this way. "Japanese tradition" doesn't excuse poor hygiene, rude staff or substandard food. In America, we have health codes for a reason. If you want decent sushi in Norfolk, go literally anywhere else. Kotobuki is just a lazy dive. There's nothing special on the menu, very little sushi selection and nobody seems to care. If you choose to ignore this warning, lower your expectations folks, you are about to be disappointed. The only thing good about this restaurant, is the opportunity to tell you how much it sucked.

Coming from Asia, I know exactly what traditional, high-quality Japanese and Asian food should taste like, and this place falls short on almost every level. To put it bluntly: if a restaurant like Volcano opened in China, it would have gone out of business a long time ago. The food is simply not authentic, not fresh, and not that great. The Rice Trap: They load you up with an insane amount of rice. It honestly feels like they are trying to cheap out and stuff you full of heavy carbs rather than letting you enjoy the actual fish or ingredients. The "Americanized" Pandemic: This place suffers from a common issue found in many Asian fusion spots across the US--it's heavily Americanized. It loses all the traditional, delicate flavors of real Japanese cuisine. Ambiance & Noise: The restaurant is always way too loud. As for the decor, it tries to mimic a Japanese style but fails to capture that clean, elegant, and serene vibe. Instead, it just feels like your generic, slightly greasy American-Asian diner. If you are someone who has never had real Asian food and just wants to try something generic for the first time, it might pass. But if you're looking for a genuine, high-quality traditional dining experience, or want to treat your friends to a nice meal? This isn't the spot. It's just not worth the value.
