This place is also convenient for those who work on Naval Station Norfolk- especially the air side of the base. The philly roll was bland while the spicy salmon roll was tangy in a really questionable way. The shumai included shrimp as usual, however they use extra vegetables that normally aren't present in shumai as filler, leaving them with a odd crunch. The hibachi was literally the worst I've ever had. The chicken was dry and tasted NOTHING like traditional hibachi and the shrimp was slightly fishy, letting me know that it was on it's way out. The food was good but the customer service, on the other hand, was another story. On my last visit, I asked for spicy mayo and it seemed to be a bit of a tuff request for some reason. Being a sushi restaurant, you would expect it to be offered with all sushi dishes. I return home and my fiancée tells me that it was actually some type of buffalo sauce, not spicy mayo. I got home and, once again, it wasn't spicy mayo. My fiancée never had a problem when she personally goes in to pick up the order, but for some reason, she gives me the most difficult time. When a new sushi/hibachi place opened up in my area, I was pretty excited. The menu was cheaper than some of my favorite spots, and they were right on my way home. My husband and I wandered out there on a Friday night to see whether they could compete with our favorites. Ambiance: light on decor and personality, it's definitely not a restaurant where they expect you to stay long. Still, it was clean an well-lit, at least. Food: We got an order of sushi, shumai and a hibachi entree. The sushi was a pretty run-of-the-mill take on spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls, kept on ice pre-made at the front of the store; in fact, some of it had frozen, disappointingly enough. The shumai were very good, actually, and made up for the sushi by being hot, fresh and well-seasoned. The hibachi dishes were decently done, although perhaps a little under-flavored. I thought the rice was a bit dry, however. Service: This is a one-man, strictly counter-and-tray-based operation. The cashier was friendly enough, and since we were the only people waiting on food in the place, dinner came pretty quickly. All-in-all, not what I was expecting. Honestly and this is just me, this tastes just like any sit down cook in front of you hibachi. So if the onion volcano and shrimp toss adds an additional $25 then I can do without it. The food is cooked fresh and doesn't take long at all. I've mainly came here for lunch and ordered the usual chicken and steak, steak and shrimp, chicken and shrimp or some form of mixed combo of the above meats. Definitely wish there was a Virginia Beach location as fast food Japanese hibachi is a great idea to have locally. I searched on Postmates & came across this place, it had decent enough reviews for me to give it a chance. However, I was disappointed with the quality of food I got. I ordered the chicken hibachi & the chicken was not seasoned well & was dry & the fried rice was just plain white rice with soy sauce. My cousin ordered the combination hibachi which came with chicken, shrimp & steak & fried rice. She also agreed the "fried rice" was just white rice with soy sauce & the chicken was season-less, her steak was dry & had no flavor & her shrimp was fishy. Now my chicken hibachi plate did only cost $6.99 so I guess you get what you pay for. I would personally prefer to pay more & get better quality hibachi than this place. It was recommended by a friend. Took my baby for some soup after a doctor visit. I ordered two pieces, should have stuck with one. She got a clear soup & two dragon rolls. I got a volcano, & I cannot recall if it was a dynamite roll. I asked for spicy rolls. It was deep fried & took two bites to eat one piece- and I have a big mouth. Plus it was steamed & hotter than a mother. The place was cute, quiet & I enjoyed my meal. My daughter normally has room for one roll, but it must have been so good she needed a repeat.
