I ordered Chicken Egg Foo Young with extra meat. We got Shrimp not chicken. I ordered Shrimp with lobster sauce and extra shrimp - no extra shrimp. Last time food was too spicy. I would like to try this place again but don't think we can - since the orders never come out right. This is the 3rd order in a row that we have had issues with and so we are going to try some place else next time. I don't think the grumpy man behind the counter helps anything either. Acts like it is a imposition that you came into the restaurant. Smiling is a good thing if you run a restaurant. The woman who is sometimes behind the register is sweet and lovely. Food was godly heaven like.. nice take out spot so no need to worry about the ambience as you eat it at home but the service is nice and friendly compared to a yn. Overall made me full and is so flavorful getting the general tso chicken combo meal with that sweeeet tea. 10/10. I love and know my food game read more

This is my local "go-to" Chinese restaurant. Consistency, their food is good. Their "sweet tea," exceptional. Service is alway good, even though all orders are "to-go." I love that they're always ok with order and dish modifications; like adding bean sprouts, and not including carrots. It's a "take-out" spot, so the ambience isn't their focus. I've ordered from here a few times and every time the food has been good. I always get sweet and sour chicken and a veggie spring roll. This last time I tried the vegetable friend rice and it was delicious. You can order easily online, which I like, and they have a ton of options. The only con is the delivery time...it always takes about an hour. read more

After a long evening of packing, a friend & I decided to order some almighty Chinese food. One thing I really enjoyed about this place was the online ordering website. It was straight to the point with no glitches and easily manageable. For that, 3.5 stars rounded to 4. Never seen a Chinese place with a website tbh. The veggie spring rolls were pretty good and crisp. I ordered chicken & broccoli with rice. My chicken wasn't cooked that well but I was glad there was a good amount of broccoli in my bowl. This place looks like a hole in the wall, but I ended up very impressed. The prices were very affordable and the egg foo yung was delicious!

I placed an order for myself and 3 coworkers online. The food was ready a minute or two after I got there. I made the mistake of thinking the rice came in the order I placed online, but the guy had no problem getting that fixed up for the $1 more. Fast and friendly. The food is what I'd expect from Chinese. It wasn't amazing, but pretty average. They have great lunch specials & id likely order again. Not sure what the reviews are about the "rude" people. Most of the guys in there I don't think spoke English, but the guy at the counter was very fluent. read more

China Chef is a decent little restaurant located in the Greenbrier area. You can find it in the shopping center that has the Food Lion as the anchor store. There's also a McDonald's in the same parking lot. They have a very large menu, are quite affordable and deliver. All are plus's. In addition you can place on order on their website which is a convenience I'm enjoying more and more these days when I can't find the time to break away from the building for lunch. We sent them a pretty big order the other day with 3 or 4 of us pooling together and despite the lunch time crush they managed to get the order over here to our building in about 45 minutes. I had a beef and broccoli lunch special from them with an egg-roll on the side. The lunch specials also come with a drink which is a canned Pepsi product of your choice. So if you want some decent Chinese in the Greenbrier area they're definitely one of your choices to look into. read more

Typical Americanized Chinese joint. Delivered food quickly. Chow mein, egg drop soup and egg rolls were excellent, sesame chicken was wads of dough with little chicken inside (I should know better than to order that or gen tso, all about the same dough to meat low consistency). I ordered the pu pu platter. It was pu pu. I don't know what in the world is going on with this restaurant they need to go back to cooking school. The wontons were so hard, they crumbled when I bit into them. The Terriyaki beef was so tuff and undercooked. The chkn wings were over cooked. The fan tail shrimp comes in this soggy, greasy biscuit. It was just disgusting and to think I paid $14 for this. I am upset about that. read more

I found a new menu on my door today, decided to try them. A waste of money. The egg roll was soaked in grease to the point that if you punctured it the grease poured out. The egg drop soup was a VERY VERY clear color, and flavorless. The wonton also lacked flavor and had far too much green onion. Save your money. I ordered from here all through the holiday season at Greenbriar Mall. It does not matter what you order, the only difference in your food will be chicken, beef or pork and the level of spice. All vegetables and sauces are the same regardless of the dish. Do NOT order anything breaded. The breaded meats are freezer burned and so stringy as to actually be completely inedible. I could not make myself swallow it, my body refused. The Bourbon Chicken is simply chicken chunks in brown sauce that tastes a lot like Hines brown gravy, but nothing like bourbon chicken. Save your money and go someplace that can cook actual different dishes. This place is horrible. Never again. read more

This is the first time I have been to this place and I am reviewing purely on this one time visit. The food is good. Nothing spectacular but not below average either. I ordered the Kung Pao beef and my wife had the chicken with mushrooms. The vegetables and meat seemed fresher than other Chinese food that I have had and seemed less greasy. The sauce was tasty and a little thicker than normal which I prefer. I do have to say that I will definitely be back to try other dishes. Try it out for yourself! read more

Today, i came into the "restaurant" to get food. When i walked through the doors I said Hello and the guy didn't even say anything. I asked the guy if the lunch special was still going on and he just pointed at the menue saying yes but he said it like he was annoyed. I gave him my card, and he didn't say anything. He placed the receipt on the table, so go and sign the receipt. I gave him back the receipt saying thank you, and of course he didn't say anything. Awful is the first word that came to mind. I was there today and I wish I'd gone into the Subway a few doors down instead. My order was greasy and flavorless. The mushrooms in it looked as tho they were rotten. I tasted it while sitting there in the restaurant and politely and quietly told the cashier that it didn't taste very good. I'm too polite sometimes...I don't like to hurt anyone's feelings or criticize but it was inedible. He asked me to choose something else and I told him I really just wanted a refund but he refused so I ordered something else of equal value and it was flavorless and inedible as well. I normally don't write reviews. But I orderd General Tso Chicken & crab ragoons from China Chef & it was the worst Asain food I've ever had. I should have went to my normal place down on Kempsville, but this restaurant was closer to home. The order came about 20 mins after I placed. It was tasteless, no real kick like normal general tso chicken is, all chicken were dark meat, and tough to eat. The crab ragoons really shocked me how they had no flavor and little filling. The only thing that had taste was the white rice. Long story short, it's now in my garbage. read more

Apparently there is a change in management going on (according to the delivery driver)and it shows. I ordered the fried dumplings (gyoza) and it was clear that they were pre-cooked and reheated. They were raw on the bottom and burnt on the top indicating to me they were reheated under a broiler and not actually fried like they are supposed to be. Pretty hard to fry something and only have one side cook. The pork fried rice had hard, burnt rice in it and the General tsao chicken was mediocre. All in all a terrible meal. The only positive thing I can say is that the delivery person was awesome. He appologized for the food and explained to me that the old owners left to start a new business and the new owners are certainly lacking. Don't waste your lunch hour here. You will just be disappointed and still hungry afterwards. read more

I bypass several restaurants of similar cuisine to choose China Chef for delivery. They have the best steamed dumplings I have found yet (never old and pasty) and always listen and apply extra spicy the way I like it unlike others who don't seem to understand extra spicy. This is our "go to" Chinese delivery place -- having lived in the area for about 9 years. Every where else we've tried has left us disappointed in one way or another. The weakest point is probably the mu shu pancakes -- they always clump together, and aren't great. So, if you're debating between mu shu and something else, pick something else. read more

If you're looking for Chinese take out, this is a very solid option. It's a cheap, fast option when you're craving good old fashioned American style Chinese food. The Szechuan chicken is good, with a nice chicken to vegetable ratio. The General Tso's is not bad either, but there could be more broccoli involved. Spice level on both dishes is noticeable but not strong. Overall I would say it gets a rating of "pretty good." read more

I think the food is really good. My favorite is the orange chicken. I get it with no breading so it's just the chicken and orange peel in the sauce....it's a little spicy but delicious!! The chicken fried rice is also very good. My husband likes the egg drop soup, egg drop/wonton soup combination and the chicken chow mein. I love that they deliver. read more
