I decided to check this place out because I saw the high rating it got on multiple sites. I am always down to try a new Chinese food spot. It is one of those things where one place might have great fried rice, one has great egg rolls, and another has great lo mein. Overall the food was good as I went with the General Tsos combo that comes with regular fried rice but for a small upcharge if you want to change the rice to pork or shrimp. To me it is still unusual as I thought ham fried rice was just a normal thing that comes with a dinner combo along with an egg roll. Not anymore. I ordered an eggroll (2 per order) to go with the meal along with a teriyaki stick. The teriyaki stick (you get 2 per order) was pretty good and not dried out to the point where it could pass for jerky. The chicken in the dinner was good and not overly breaded. It was supposedly spicy but trust me anyone could handle this spice. Good spot to quench your hankering for some American Chinese food. Parking can be a bit iffy with a few spaces in the front on the street shared with other restaurants but the same holds true for the spaces behind the building. read more

Solid Chinese carry-out spot. After spending an hour looking at seemingly every Chinese restaurant in Norfolk, mostly comparing pictures of the Crab Rangoons ("Cheese Wontons" here) and fried rice, I landed on this along with the help of some recommendations from our neighborhood Facebook page. We ordered carry out, which around 5 on a Saturday evening was ready in about 20 minutes. Our order consisted of "Cheese Wontons" (the menu does list crab, and the overall filling was pretty run of the mill for a local rangoon, maybe slightly less sweet which we like, but the wonton itself was so bubbly and crispy and delicious!), Mushu Pork, and a General Tso's combination plate with shrimp fried rice and an egg roll. The General Tso's had good flavor with a solid spice to it, and the fried rice and egg roll were satisfactory. The Mushu Pork was good as well! When I'm looking for Chinese carry out or delivery, I don't have extreme expectations. Ideally I'd just like edible, flavorful food at a reasonable price and this absolutely hit the mark! So many places seem to have continued to raise prices as quality suffers, and that isn't the case here. This is probably our new go to. Prices are cheap: everyday $7.65 lunch combo. The chicken and green beans made to order. Very good, garlicky and tasty. The green beans were fresh, still crunchy. The chicken was tender. The sweet and sour chicken was "good," according to my husband. Nothing to rave about, just tempura and fried. The sauce had no pineapple or bell pepper. The fried rice was good, just rice sauce and onions-green and white onions. Overall, I'd go here over Panda Express. Golden China - First View, Norfolk is the best place for Chinese food around. Don't be fooled by other Golden China's - they're not all the same. I order from here at least once every other week, and am always impressed with the quality of whatever I get. It's definitely worth trying everything on the menu. They offer Chinese, Sushi, Hibachi, Poke, Udon and Teriyaki dishes. I am a huge fan of their Singapore Chow Mei Fun- a curried pancit rice noodle dish full of chicken, beef, pork and shrimp. (Tip: if you love heat like i do, ask for them to prepare your dishes spicy, whether its indicated as spicy or not). I've tried this dish elsewhere and Golden China prepares it the best, hands down. Another fave is Sesame Shrimp (add spicy). The dish is full of HUGE fried shrimp tossed in a delicious sweet/tangy sauce. With nearly every order, we also add House Fried Rice and House LoMein which are equally as good. I could go on and on about this place...but if you want REALLY GREAT Asian food, pass by the other Chinese restaurants, even the PF Chang's, and order from here. They got a bug verity of Asian food and so far I've tried the Chinese donuts, shrimp toast, egg drop soup, teriyaki chicken, hibachi noodles with shrimp, hibachi chicken, Singapore mei fun(rice noodles), (hopebI didn't miss any lol) Only the shrimp toast and hibachi chicken are not my favorite, and the rest are pretty decent. The hibachi chicken looks like boiled sliced chicken and the sauce tasted weird to me. The shrimp toast was way too greasy and burnt. Back to the good stuff. The Chinese donuts is a whole new level, it's my meth. It's hot and crispy, the inside is soft and full of egg flavor. I don't like too sweet so I can dust the excessive sugar off of them and for $5 you get 10 of them. TEN OF THEM! FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS! (4.95 to be exact). The Singapore mei fun is very good too. Very flavorful and has a little kick. The portion is generous for the price (around $10 or 11). The sauce of teriyaki chicken and hibachi noodles with shrimp tasted the same to me but it was not bad. The noodles tasted like pasta but aye it's noodles lol. The ingredients are fresh and they're all $7-11 so I can't complain much. The egg drop soup has too much msg cuz it makes me thirsty everytime I had it but it tasted fine. Overall the prices are unbeatable. One meal from them is 2 meals for me. Good, quick, priced right, tasty! I needed some takeout for Friday night. I had the General Tso chicken, pork fried rice, and crab Rangoon, which they call cheese wonton. The dinner combo special also comes with an egg roll. For starters, the place is takeout only. So, know that before you get hungry. You wouldn't want to go there thinking you are sitting down to eat and be disappointed. Second, due to staff shortages, sushi is not available. The sign saying that looked pretty old. I'm guessing sushi isn't coming back. The pork fried rice was pretty good. A-/B+. Others complain it is bland, but I think they might have ordered regular fried rice instead of pork. I thought the rice was the right texture, with a little veggies, and the correct amount of pork. Egg roll was okay, not great, but not bad. A little bland, needed some salt. C+. The cheese wonton - crab Rangoon - was a solid B+. Right size, flavorful cheese. It's not crabby, but the word crab isn't in the name. There is a little imitation crab in there, but not a lot. Could maybe us a little green onion? Still, I'm glad I ordered it. The general tso was a solid A-/A. Quality chicken. No gristle or yucky pieces. Perfect flavor profile. Just a little heat. If you want it hotter, make sure you ask. The dinner combo was about 10.75 for egg roll, fried rice, and general Tso chicken. I'm a big guy with a healthy appetite, and I still didn't finish it. Golden China is a solid restaurant choice for Chinese food in the Harrisonburg area. Great service. My wife had the sushi, and I had the general tsos. It was plenty of food (more than we could really eat) for $25, and their buffet looks worth your money. Great place for takeout, although they make the sushi in front of you at the sushi bar which is pretty cool. I have given myself a week or two to cool off after this incident but I have never been more frustrated by a restaurant in my life. I ordered my food through the Post-mates app after seeing an advertisement for free delivery from Golden China's refrigerator. Unfortunately, when I received my order it was nothing that I ordered and was spilt all over the bottom of the bag they packed it in. I brought the order/food back to the restaurant and was forced to take the issue up with a young pre-teen girl while two adult women neglected to talk to me and acted like they didn't speak English. The wrong order contained seafood. After telling her I am allergic to seafood she mocked me and said "Oh do you want me to call 911?" I put the food on the counter and -BTW I did not see them throw my wrong order away. They put it on the counter that serves takeout to the next customers.- If you ordered food that day you may have gotten my leftover food. This was on 1/14/2020. When I picked up the Post-mates advertisement from the refrigerator to explain I needed a refund or my correct order she told me they found the advertisements in the TRASH outside. Before leaving the restaurant I told her I would be writing a Yelp review about the situation. Ten minutes after I left, this little girl calls my cell phone and said "If you do anything to jeopardize our business you will be sorry." I hung up and she kept calling my phone. I picked up three times and immediately hung up and she kept calling. She must have called a dozen times to threaten me just for saying I was going to leave a review online. Keep in mind this girl has my phone number and home address. I would love for Golden China to reply back to this review and explain why I couldn't speak to a manager or anyone who spoke English, why I was harassed and threatened by this girl, and why they have advertisements from the TRASH on their refrigerator where they serve tea and bottled drinks to the public. This is my favorite, go to take out spot. I was so happy when OV finally got a more updated Chinese food place. This is certainly a family establishment, as I've seen the kids grow up in the restaurant. Once they get to working age, they are helping in the restaurant. I've tried so much on the menu here, and I am never disappointed. The food is always fresh when I order from here. My go to options (Not in one setting) Sushi - Always freshly made Honey Chicken Wings - These are a must have House fried rice - and they always accommodate my no onion request Pepper Steak - Amazing gravy, and crunchy peppers Beef Egg Foo Young - The best hangover meal, so much food for so little $$. Food is some of the best Chinese in Norfolk. However the young lady that answers the phone and runs the register is about as rude, an unprofessional as it comes hence the 2 stars. Trying being a little more polite when speaking with customers, try not to yell their entire phone number out for all to hear. Why not just ask their first name when ordering or simply conform what they have ordered. Some people may not want their information given out so freely. Try saying Thank you or your welcome. NEVER AGAIN - We placed our order and they told us it would be ready in 15-20min. We arrived an hour later, just to be sure that our order would be ready when we arrived (this was based upon our previous experiences with this restaurant). When we arrived, there was a line (of angry people) outside who were in line for their for pickup orders, so we called while outside to be sure that our order was ready. My husband and I are relocating from out of area and we are trying new and this will now top our list of favorites! The chicken was hot and crunchy and the sauce was uniquely tangy and sweet. We could not stop eating it! We also had beef and broccoli, cream cheese wontons, sesame wontons, and chicken fried rice- they were all hot, fresh, and rich with varying flavors. We were waiting in 64 traffic and decided to get lunch instead. It wasn't far from 64 and in a cute area. The restaurant was set up smart. They had one side that looked like takeout and through a door they had a nicely set up sitting area for us. Booths, nice tables and it was dark and cool in a bright hot day. The food? Good prices and good portions. My Generals Tos Chicken was beyond belief! It was nice and crispy fired chicken covered in sauce, totally yummy! I am used to mushy chicken and gooey sauce. This was nothing like that But that's where the goodness ends. My mother ordered Shrimp and Lobster sauce. She didn't finish it, she just said it didn't taste good and pushed it around her plate. Also the shrimp still had those little brown veins in them. Our egg rolls were so greasy that I sat there and squeezed the oil out into two napkins. That was just one egg roll. It's not a Michelin star restaurant, it just is what it is. A nice local Chinese restaurant. I love a local family owned place, and this is it. The restaurant is clean and the service is friendly. We order take out from here all the time (what's not to love about ordering online?!), but last night we decided to dine in since we hadn't done that in years. The vibe is just relaxing. Hubby had the beef and broccoli dinner combo (steamed rice) and egg drop soup while I had the sweet and sour chicken combo with wonton soup. We were not disappointed! Everything is made to order, which I appreciate. No luke warm under the heat lamp stuff here! For me a huge measure of a Chinese place is the wonton soup. Most places make it too salty, mostly because it sits around all day reducing. Not here - this was wanton perfection! The chicken in my sweet and sour was perfect - chunks of white meat, perfectly fried - nine of the mystery pieces parts you get in other places (you know what I am talking about - sometimes that deep fryer hides all kinds of sins). It's nice to see they are still going strong in OV turning out some good quality fresh food at a terrific price. We spent $21 dollars on dinner and went away satisfied. This is my go-to for chinese and sushi! Yes, sushi at a Chinese restaurant - I was surprised how delicious it was. My staple rolls are spicy tuna & salmon. When I'm feeling fancy, I'll go for any of the fancier rolls - I've had pretty much all and it's hard to choose a favorite. Their Hibachi menu is great! I usually get the chicken and shrimp with noodles. Sometimes I'll order fried chicken wings which never disappoint. The Chinese food is yummy and fresh as well. From general tso's chicken to beef & broccoli, shrimp in lobster sauce and orange chicken...the food is hot and portions are large. Let me start off by saying my husband is a Chinese food addict. He moved here 3 months ahead of me, and during that time, he cooked for himself twice. Every other day his dinner wake takeout from a few local Thai places, or Golden China. It's worth it to say that he never got sick of the food here, and it has become our staple Chinese restaurant. The restaurant is located in a small strip on 1st View St. It looks tiny, and maybe outdated. Walking in, you see that it is bigger on the inside (think Tardis?) and C-L-E-A-N. I am truly impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant. I have not yet dined in, but it has a lovely and simple dining area for those that choose to do so. Kids will enjoy the fish tank while waiting. My favorite part of Golden China, is that there were no dishes under a heat lamp. All of them were made in clear sight behind the cashier's counter. They worked quickly and the kitchen looked tidy. True professionals. And about the food? Everything we've had is absolutely fresh. Not a bad experience yet, and we have ordered at least 20 times between the two of us. Crunchy dishes are crunchy, not soggy. Chicken dishes are fully cooked and not absolutely dripping in sugar. I can't rave as much about the oil - although we love the Egg Foo Young, be prepared to pour the oil off from it (literally). I have not yet tried the sushi dishes. The wait time is reasonable considering everything is made as-ordered. They will always tell you ten minutes. They are liars. ;) Expect the wait to be about 25-30. I would recommend calling ahead, but if you choose to walk in, the wait is worth it! I recommend Egg Foo Young, Beef and Broccoli, and the best General Tso's I've had. The fried rice is also well cooked and worth a try. If you are into soups, both the wonton and egg drop were fantastic in terms of freshness and texture. As a very welcome surprise, they were not deathly salty as they are at most Chinese spots! To wrap it up, Golden China is the kind of Chinese you crave, not the Chinese you receive and are disappointed by. Definitely give them a call the next time you want some take-out! read more

I've stopped by here several times for quick food. The chinese section doesn't always agree with me the next day, maybe it's the oil used or something. Then again, I'm a little wonky the next day after several things since losing my gall bladder. I do love their egg drop soup though. I think sitting down in here is worth it, especially if you get their sushi. The seated area is nice and comfy. Plus, they have a great looking salt water fish tank. I was undecided in the sushi section and ended up choosing the sushi, sashimi, roll combo. It came on a huge ass plate with a tasty selection of three types of fish sashimi, five sushi, and a tuna roll. it was a very generous serving and prettily presented, with some butterfly shaped carrots and the sashimi nestled on little beds of lettuce. Despite looking pretty, I didnt like the scraps of shredded lettuce that stuck to my fish. It wasn't gross, but after I ate my first one and it being a weird combo, I had to pick it off all the other slices. The one white tuna was so bland, I'm not 100% sure that's what it was. The regular tuna was stellar and lean, the salmon average but still tasty. I left full of fish for $26, bit expensive, but I think I ate a two person dish... Location isn't great here, it's easy to get to though. I like it being right next to the game shop I frequent. I saw some construction going on next door, the folks at the game shop said the restaurant bought the space and were going to make it into a hibachi area. There's already a hibachi place in the shopping area (Osaka), but they're express; the food is cooked in the back, there's no hibachi show. I'll try whatever they build. read more

I was really surprised at how good this Chinese food was. I always order wonton soup sans wontons because I love the broth. The broth was excellent! I also had bbq spare ribs minus the sauce and they were delicious. My fiancé had two orders of the general tso's chicken and he was impressed (he's a tough critic). All in all a great take away spot.
