Wow, I was very impressed with my first visit to alohahola. I ordered a two protein poke bowl and I was expecting just another poke bowl. Wrong, the toppings selection was impressive (fav was the garlic chips), the portions were very filling. The tuna and salmon tasted fresh. The employees were very helpful, with genuine smiles. This is my second time trying this location and I'm happy to say that the second visit was better than the first. Not that the first time was a horrible experience but they went from a 4 to 5 star in my opinion. Flavor and service were wonderful. The space was clean and the workers were amazingly kind to us. I will not mention exactly why my first visit was not a five star event but I can promise it wasn't due to service then too. The portions for the meals are huge, my daughter and I shared the bbq chicken plate and the spam musubi with leftovers to spare. The flavor was perfect. The place was so clean, I cannot stress enough the attention to detail when they service you and how clean they keep their store. The way they pay attention when you might need something they're ready to offer it to you. Even though the store wasn't full with patrons they did have a lot of to go orders. I was craving a poke bowl and came across Alohahola off Battlefield Blvd in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake. The parking lot was easy to get into. I ordered at the tablet and took a seat. The inside is fairly small and the tables are close together so I would probably take my next order to go. The employees were friendly and answered any questions I had. I was impressed with how fresh everything in my poke bowl tasted from the cucumbers to the salmon. I feel like Alohahola has a lot more options when it comes to toppings and sauces which I appreciate. I might even say it was the best poke bowl I've tried in VA. I happened upon this restaurant when I visited Joyu, which is next door. They have a variety of Hawaiian cuisine including poke. I decided to try their black pepper Hawaii barbecue chicken dish. It came with macaroni salad, rice, and grilled veggies (onions and peppers). I loved the flavor of the chicken and veggies. I didn't eat the Mac salad. I will definitely go back and possibly try something else. But that chicken is delicious!! And they give you such large portions, I had enough for lunch the next day. I know it's probably best to separate these reviews but I had to combine them because these are literally two of my favorite spots and now they're side by side and connected! I was so happy when I found out. Living in Chesapeake and working in Virginia Beach this makes it so much more convenient to grab both in one trip. The coconut chicken used to be my go-to back in the day but lately I've been getting the coconut shrimp and it's still just as amazing. So flavorful and always hits the spot. As for Joyyu my favorite drink is the Avocado Joyyu. There's just something about the condensed milk and avocado combo that I absolutely love lol. It's smooth, sweet and super satisfying every time. My only complaint about Joyyu is the oven they have on the counter near the front of the store it's loud! Every time it finishes cooking it's so noisy it has my ears ringing. The ribs where tender and the shrimp were good. There was 1 major problem that I took issue with. NOTHING WAS BBQ'D. The meat had no delicious char, no char markes or smokey flavor on the meat or the shrimp. This was very disappointing. Even the menu discrimination mentions charred meat but that isn't what I received. It left me a little confused. How to do prepare BBQ with no direct heat? So I asked if they had Lau Lau and they looked like they didn't know what that was. So I just ordered a Chicken Katsu with extra katsu sauce and a Hawaiian Sun Lilikoi Juice . Getting to this location is a nightmare. Traffic is insane. Luckily? The food is well worth the hassle. Service is slow. There is very limited seating. It's pretty clear that this location caters more towards take out. I removed star for it because it shouldn't take so long for an order to be prepared. Again, I'm willing to cut some slack for this because the food is outstanding and the portions are generous. We got a poke bowl, teriyaki chicken, and spam musubi (forgot to take a photo). The poke bowl was massive. Everything in it was fresh and delicious. The teriyaki chicken also came in a generous size. We were only able to eat half our food and took the rest to go. We ordered Alohahola on Uber eats. It's great to see more Hawaiian food options in the Hampton Roads area. The order arrived on time and was packed very neatly which I appreciate the attention to detail. They pack to go orders in a reusable bag, which is also a nice touch. The food was excellent overall. My favorite food items are the Crispy Spam Musubi - it is a must try. Their macaroni salad was surprisingly very good, I never get excited for macaroni salad, so I was impressed. Crab Rangoons were a good appetizer. Their Hawaiian Curry Katsu is another one of my favorites. There is a 50 cent option to add spicy to your dish, I also do not recommend this option. I love spicy, but the red spicy sauce was too much for me, or if you do add it, have it on the side instead of poured on top of your food. With their meals I personally prefer their white rice over their fried rice. I also tried their grill spam fried rice, it's a popular dish, I was disappointed because the picture online looked much fresher than what we were served. There were no peas or eggs in the fried rice. Which in the picture online looks like it comes with. It was like they took their plain fried rice and added grilled spam, pineapple and green onions afterwards. It did not taste cohesive to me. Another item I would not get again is their shrimp shumai, I personally like it steamed instead of fried and this did not seem to be an option here. Hawaii beef mix was okay, the beef was a little tough for me. Overall it was a good experience and I will be trying more of their dishes. read more

Now I can finally get my Hawaiian fix close by! Nice spot to grab and go. They did have a few tables and some window seating. It looks like they have a self-order spot I didn't notice it until I was waiting for my food. Which came out pretty quick about a 10 min or less wait. The staff was friendly, the environment was very clean. They even had a "sanitized" sign on the clean tables. The decor was of course Hawaiian theme. I ordered the beef plate meant to get the beef rib plate though. I was in a rush and didn't correct myself . All good! I'll just have to come back again SOON :) the portion size was very generous. I could barely eat half of the plate. The spam musubi was probably my favorite! Lots of flavor. They gave me some sauce but I couldn't figure out what kind of sauce it was but it was DELICIOUS. My husband and I tried Alohahola for the first time, and we were really impressed! I got the Hawaii BBQ shrimp and fried shrimp with mac salad and fried rice. The shrimp had great flavor, and the fried shrimp was perfectly fried, which I really appreciated. It also came with a teriyaki-like sauce that was so good. We ordered takeout, and pickup was super easy. I went back and tried the honey soy garlic spicy chicken--it had great flavor and was a big portion (I couldn't even finish it!). The lady who waited on us, Kiki, was very pleasant. The music was a little loud for such a small place. They have four tables and some counter/seating. Both my companions got the Hawaii fried rice, which one very much enjoyed, it comes with beef, chicken, shrimp and pineapple. The other wasn't a huge fan and wouldn't get again. I tried their teriyaki chicken. Huge portions, but there are somethings that make me disinclined to come back. Several of the chicken pieces had such a gristly texture, i eventually stopped trying to hunt down ones i could eat. The 'veggie" side is just straight shaved raw cabbage. I dont mind cabbage, but when you say, sub out the macaroni salad (not a macaroni salad girl) for more veg, finding that is the veg is rather disappointing. I did try the spring rolls - nicely fried but the filling was oddly mushy. Four our three meals, two waters and a coke i spent a little over 50 bucks. The atmosphere is clean and relaxing, playing Hawaiian music etc. Food portions were generous and everything we've had so far is really good. Musubi are very large, Chicken Katsu w/ gravy is perfect, Kahlua pork is well balanced in flavor, however the macaroni salad which is a major wide, is a little bland. I have been so curious about this space for a long while now. It seems like years that the sign Domoishi labeled this space only to have it taken down and replaced with Alohaola. I came here on a Thursday afternoon. It's very bright inside. We were immediately welcomed as we walked inside. My son ordered a mango-lover Hawaiian drink. I ordered the short rib and shrimp dinner and I chose the signature Hawaiian BBQ mix for the hubby. It didn't take long when they handed me a nice bag with the dinners. I was super impressed and surprised when I saw the to-go boxes the dinners were in. It was a nice plastic container with the words "Domoishi." It was portioned so that the food did not touch each other. I'm still wondering what's up with "Domoishi" on the box. Is Alohaola owned by Domoishi? Anyhow, the food was yummy. The service was wonderful. One fact to point out is that a couple of my Korean bbq pieces were not cooked all the way, but it was only a couple of pieces, the rest of the meal made up for it!
