Food was mediocre at best. I ordered the Hawaiian. Rice was al dente (better way of saying it's under cooked), tuna was kind of skimpy. Didn't really have enough fish compared to rice. Rice wasn't that much so that tells you how much tuna was in that bowl. Brand new place so it's definitely clean. Staff is still trying to figure out what ingredients are in different items on the menu. It's still new, 2nd day after grand opening. Maybe I'll give them another chance after a while. I can see the attempt is there however execution is not the best. The sauces are mixed with your protein in a cardboard box that resembles those served during school lunch, this seems fairly unsanitary as germs and bacteria can stick to this cardboard, which is why most places use glass containers that they can wash/clean. Second, out of the various times I've been their card reader seems to always be broken and they can't charge me and I have to end up either paying with cash, or they just keep my bowl and I can't pay because their computers aren't working. Just some suggestions maybe use glass and fix the card reader other than that pretty alright place. read more

The staff was very knowledgeable and talked me through everything since it was my first time. They have boba as well and deals throughout the week. A former student of mine suggested that I try the place nearby, and since I had been mulling this over for quite a while (wondering what I was missing) enlisted my wife to join me in a Pokémoto lunch. I did some research and found that it is part of a Hawaiian-style poke bowl restaurant chain. You may ask what is poke bowl? A poke bowl (pronounced poh-kay) is a Hawaiian dish that typically consists of diced raw fish served over a base (usually rice) and topped with a variety of sauces, vegetables, and seasonings. (Thank you ChatGPT.) So what Is Pokémoto? It is a poke bowl chain specializing in Hawaiian-style poke. Their menu includes signature bowls (e.g., Hawaiian-style ahi tuna, miso salmon, sweet & spicy shrimp) plus a "build your own" option. My wife had the Hawaiian with some additions, I played it safe with a sesame chicken with little change. There was an good variety of add-ins and hot-plate items, sides, and snacks as well. Pokémoto claims that their food is "healthier" as they use fresh ingredients, quality proteins (sushi-grade tuna, Atlantic salmon), fruit, vegetables, nuts, etc. In fact, the young man working the counter described it as "sushi in a bowl." We agreed. As my wife is half Asian, I tend to listen to her counsel on places and dishes that are rice, fish, and miso related. She pronounced the experience "very good" and was quite impressed with the bowl, the promptness of service and quality of ingredients. I concur, although my miso could have been a bit warmer. I can see that the place will appeal to foodies, health-conscious customers, sushi lovers and boba (bubble) tea fans. They are partnered with Snackpass, which provides app ordering, group ordering, rewards, and self-service kiosks. I am not sure if this option is available here in Modesto. Before we dive-in, I'd like to mention that I DoorDash'd my order and I've never been to the actual location before. I just really had a hankering for a poke bowl and didn't want to leave the house. Pokemoto was one of the selections offered when I queried, and I had a good feeling about it so, I gave it and try and here we are! Y'all, my order was fulfilled and delivered so quickly! And it didn't show up looking hastily assembled at all, which I appreciated for sure. I got the Hawaiian Style Poké bowl and it was perfect! Great fish-to-rice portions and the shredded nori with the crispy onions on top makes for an absolutely delightful texture experience. I do want to warn my fellow spice wimps though--the sriracha mayo was HOT and cleared my sinuses right up, but if you have any heat tolerance, you'll be totally cool. On a lark, I added the lobster seafood salad because it is one of my only culinary weaknesses and I simply cannot resist it. And theirs?! So good! Nice big chunks of lobster in the salad. I was really excited to try this new poke spot, but unfortunately it was a big disappointment. When I arrived, it took two employees just to figure out how to help me, and I ended up waiting around until someone could take my order. I ordered two poke bowls, and the service was extremely slow--adding toppings to the bowls took far longer than it should have, especially considering the place wasn't busy (I was the only customer). I waited about 20-30 minutes just for my order. When I finally got home to eat, the quality was terrible. Nothing tasted fresh, and the mixed greens were old and clearly going bad. It seems like they don't check their ingredients at all. On top of that, the prices are way too high for what you get. Save your time and money--there are much better poke options in the Bay Area than what you'll find here in the valley. read more

They tried to fresh mix my poke in a disposable cardboard box. When I asked the girl to mix it in the stainless steel bowl right next to the fish she gave me attitude. Said they use the bowl for rice lmao I just thought that was so odd I've never seen it be mixed that way. Honestly save your money it's a joke that Hawaiian is tacked onto the name you can tell these people have no clue what real Hawaiian pokè is. This place is an absolute disgrace. I saw this in store and asked the manager about it and he nodded his head and said yup both kinds are in the bag. Either he doesn't know his menu or doesn't care. Took 20 plus mins to make our order. Obvious he was new he failed to ask for help, failed to replenish empty items and left us with a bad taste. However, I found that the portion of rice significantly exceeded the amount of protein provided. Given the price, the portion size was somewhat disappointing--especially in comparison to other poke establishments, where a large order is typically filled generously and cost around the same price. I went to Pokemoto to get the sesame ginger chicken salad and miso soup. I had eaten there on opening day and the food was pretty good so I thought I'd go again. The young lady that took care of me was obviously new. She couldn't get one thing right. She put the salad in as the base and then proceeded to spill it into the container of raw salmon. She scooped it up and put it back in the bowl and proceeded to make my sesame ginger chicken salad. I let it slide. I should've said something. She struggled through the rest of the order looking at the card multiple times to try and figure out what went in the salad. I helped her out telling her what I wanted. When we got to the register, I had to tell her again that I wanted a miso soup. When she rang it up it came to over $21. I asked her how a $14.99 bowl plus $1.49 miso soup with tax came to over $20. She couldn't explain it and told me "it just is." Another employee came over and fixed the order to make it the correct total of $16.48 plus tax. The girl said nothing and looked very irritated at me that I argued and didn't just pay the $21. She turned her back to me. When I stood there waiting for my miso soup the other employee finally asked if there was something else. I said yes, my miso soup. The girl who initially took my order, just stood there and did nothing. The other employee had to go make my miso soup. I know she was probably new, but someone should be supervising her and explaining to her as she makes mistakes. That's how people learn. She also needs to learn if you dump lettuce into raw fish, you don't just scoop it back up and give it to the customer. Also, if you make a mistake on a customer's bill, sorry goes a long way.
