Very mediocre - Hawaiian tuna did not have much flavor and toppings weren't as fresh as I hoped. For $16 - don't think I'll be back.

I like this place. Nice and clean and also the flavors are on point! There is also a nice variety of protein and veggies to choose from. The service was good I have no complaints. However, the price is overpriced. I love getting poke bowls on the daily and usually the small bow is roughly 12 dollars. This bowl was 16 dollars but it was nothing special or out of the ordinary. The other poke spots at least mix the sauces within your bowl properly. Poke Kai literally just pours the sauce on top and leave the bowl from underneath just wet instead of it being all mixed up. For the price it is not worth it. Poke bar is better and AHIPOKI by the traffic circle. The owner should definitely check those spots out and see how they mix the bowls property. read more

Worst Poke place I have ever tried. There was nothing about it that was good. I don't know how this place is still in business. I should have known better once I entered because everything looked old. I was the only customer there and now I know why. Everything on my poke bowl tasted disgusting. This review could have been so much better if the customer service was an ounce of welcoming/friendliness. If you're here for the food, 4/5. They have a few different Hawaiian style poke options - which is poke mixed with sesame oil, onion and sesame seeds - as well as plain ones. The Hawaiian style are the ones you won't see offered anywhere else so getting to try that is pretty good! Customer service, 1/5. My bf and I came here for the first time at 8:00 on a Saturday evening as we were in the area. Sadly, we won't be returning. We just wanted a small and quick dinner so we decided to share a large bowl. This was our first time there and we were just going through the options and had ask 2 questions to the girl - one was what's in the Hawaiian poke. She not only visibly shown her attitude and annoyance at us but made us uncomfortable. I almost wanted to leave seeing how annoyed she was for us deciding on what we want. Afterward, I asked my bf how he felt when we're ordering and his impression was " she probably hates her job"...I mean...it's a free country girl...you don't have to work a job you don't like. And for the simplest task which is proving minimal customer service and preparing a bowl of pre-made ingredients, is it that bad that you need to show your customers your attitude. I used to work in the food/serving industry so I know that one thing bringing people back, aside from the food itself, is customer service. I guess I should have checked Yelp beforehand because seeing the previous reviews, I have a very strong feeling we're all talking about the same girl. Amazing food, we're never disappointed in the taste. However, in the YEARS of being loyal customers, we have never experienced friendly customer service. We've even joked about "hoping they're in a good mood today." Tonight was not an exception. We came in on an evening shift today, Tuesday 3/23/21 and the employee was NOT nice. She was very rushed with our order and threw the first bowl across the counter, exhibiting her bad attitude. We also asked if they had avocado and she initially said yes. Then we asked for some for our order and she changed her mind and said "no"...as if there's none in the back. When we asked for the dry toppings on top, she barely put any. You'd think she was being tortured and didn't want to put more. I'm just tired of the bad attitude that these employees constantly exhibit. It's beyond ridiculous. I bit my tongue and didn't say anything to her in person. I know the pandemic is hard enough but we were the only ones in there at the moment. The rushed attitude was unnecessary. Also, we've always been good customers and we truly have never experienced pleasant customer service. This is coming from two former restaurant workers! Best Poke restaurant in SoCal!! For my first impression I noticed how much choices of proteins they had to offer, their Hawaiian style proteins was by far my favorite. They had really nice customer service, I was helped by Anthony and Brian. Their portions are definitely much larger than all other poke restaurants that I've been too. I'm local to this area and I can't believe it's taken me this long to try Poke Kai... my first experience was so great! As someone who hasn't come around to enjoy raw seafood (yes, I know. I'm also disappointed in myself lol), I very much enjoy the cooked options of sushi and poke! I loved the shrimp and squid options, delicious and not chewy/over cooked at all! For a regular, around $10, you have a huge bowl of your customizable poke that will be sure to fill you up! And they don't even charge extra for avocado, amazing!!! Customer service is excellent! If I could I would leave negative stars, if you want COLD rice or COLD and HARD rice with DAYS old ingredients for 18$ come here. I immediately went back and returned my last hard rice bowl to have the manager tell me that it was how the rice was supposed to be served! I have never been to a poke place that serves cold rice but I tolerated it for a long time because I live nearby and they served it warm sometimes but with no apology and without a full refund, I will never be coming back here. Highlights: The fish is always fresh and the choices are seemingly endless. There are so many sauces and toppings to choose from. More often than not, the scoops of protein are hefty. This poke spot stands out above the rest in Long Beach because of how much you get for what you pay. The employees are patient and will do essentially any combination of things that you ask them to. Yet another poke place has opened. I understand how popular it has become, but I sometimes wonder if poke places will go out of business because there's too many of them lol. Places like these makes me constantly wish that Yelp had the option of giving half stars. I'd probably give this place 3 1/2 stars because overall it's not too bad. Location: it's tucked away between dollar store and yogurtland in a pretty bustling shopping plaza. Interior: like most poke places it works off as a food assembly line. The location itself is pretty tiny, so I could it see it being sort of crowded if there was a lot of people. There's a maximum occupancy of 18 people for seating plus three tables and six chairs out front. What I got: White rice, two scoops of salmon, yellowtail, spicy mayo and ponzu, avocado, seaweed salad, crabmeat, masago, cucumber, green onion, onion, sesame seeds, furikake. PROS: they got a good variety of protein and toppings to choose from. All which tasted VERY fresh and pretty good for the most part. Very happy to see that they include avocado without extra cost. I was pretty pleased at the abundance of choices. The sauces for the bowls were just perfect. It was not overdone. I did ask for a top off in more spicy mayo and it complimented the rest of my bowl perfectly. Unfortunately my friend didn't ask for more sauce so she said the flavor for her was a bit lacking. The service was good and the workers were very friendly. The guy who took my order asked if I was a student and with my student ID I was able to get 10% off. So pleased at that so I gave him a tip. I also appreciated they have a huge wall when you walk in to the left defining what poke is for people who may have never tried it before. CONS: I would not advise getting the salad option. My friend did and she shortly realized that it was iceberg lettuce and not spring mix. Their portions are sort of small. For a regular bowl they did not pack it in or fill it to the brim. The base is not that much and the scoops for protein is quite sadly small. They also had marinated Hawaiian style poke which I didn't really know about at first because it was not on the menu. So if a worker is reading my review, I'd advise adding that to your menu. Overall, pretty good! read more

The upside of this place is that they do not charge extra for avocado. The bowls are pretty reasonably priced at $12 for a about five scoops of protein/poke options. So glad that there's finally a poke place near my house now! I love looking at hot & new places on yelp so I can try new places around me :) Pros: - I like how they have the option to choose the marinated fish. - good sauces - all toppings are free, including avocado. If you want an extra scoop, it's $1 a topping. (This part should be a con lol. I really like toppings) Cons: - I don't like how they put everything in sections..if that makes sense? Example: they just put the onion in my bowl instead of mixing it with the fish. Maybe I'm used to poke bar mixing the fish, sauce & toppings - you can't mix your fish with the sauces, they just drizzle it over the bowl Overall, I would definitely come back here since it's super close to my house and also for the times I'm too lazy to drive all the way to Cerritos to get poke bar! The poke is decent but for $10 for a regular, I've had better. Just like most places, this spot is a chipotle-styled poke spot where you pick & choose which proteins, base, sauce(s), and toppings that you want. - Protein: Hawaiian tuna & hawaiian salmon These looked better than the regular tuna & salmon sitting out so we opted for them and while the flavor was decent, they didn't taste too fresh. - Base: white/brown rice, chips, or salad - sauce: they have a unique sauce (be warned: it's spicy!) - toppings: I liked how you had an endless (ok maybe around 15) different toppings you could add to your bowl! For the price & for the less than average quality of the fish, I may just stick to other poke spots that I frequent but there's definitely potential at this one! read more

This place deserves more credit for its consistently generous servings and fresh proteins. Those two things alone make the short drive here from CSULB absolutely worth it. I recommend trying a combo of their Kai special sauce & spicy mayo if you're a fan of creamy sweet & spicy sauces. Their spicy crab is also really good and the best part is it's not considered a protein but one of their unlimited toppings! Whenever someone asks me which poke bowl I'd recommend getting locally, this is always the first place that comes to mind since others such as Hibachi-San, Poke Bar, or Ramen Hub are either too expensive or have limited offerings. Edit: one thing I'd change is giving customers the option to choose between drizzling the sauce on top of the proteins or mixing the proteins in the sauce along with other toppings such as crab. I like this "hidden" poke place... The ingredients have always been fresh, they have a variety of proteins & toppings. The only complaint is the filling (rice, salad, etc) today I ordered salad as my base & later realized it was literally a 5 small bites of salad.
