My brother introduced me to this spot & I've been coming here ever since! I think the food is great! However, my recent experience on Sept. 2 from 3:20-3:25pm was not pleasant. I work in customer service and even I know not to treat my customers that way! The young Asian woman's body language was telling. She seemed like she did not want to be there. She also kept rushing me & my mother when we (and two other people) were the only ones in the store. This already upset me because my mom doesn't speak English, so I was trying to translate. To add, I accidentally grabbed the order of the person behind me and she aggressively snatched it out of my hands and rolled her eyes at me. I said I was sorry and that I didn't realize but she ignored me. To be honest, I was extremely upset with how she handled the situation. I have come back since then, however, every time this girl works, it's the same thing. She acts like she doesn't want to be there and is passive aggressive. This poke spot is located near John Wayne Airport and a ton of business complexes. I can imagine it gets packed during weekday lunch rushes and even on a weekday night, we made it in before the 7:30 p.m. dinner rush. The base and toppings are pretty standard for a build your own poke place. What makes it unique is that it offers YELLOWTAIL and BLUE FIN TUNA as options (for an extra cost). The sizing and price are pretty standard for a poke place. I have yet to find one that really packs in the fish. Poke Dot's regular size (3 scoops of protein) was enough for me. PARKING: Easy to find when we went. It's located in a shopping plaza with a lot of nearby restaurants. INTERIOR: Very clean. Lots of indoor seating for small and large groups. Cold (understandable since they need to keep the seafood cold). Tons of outdoor seating available. Easy to maneuver counter (imagine like Subway) where you go down the line. Plenty of indoor lighting at night. FOOD: The fish was very fresh to me and I thought the size of the chunks was plentiful. Each scoop looks about 1/3 to 1/2 of a cup. So with three scoops, it's a little over a cup's worth of seafood. - BASE: Standard options of grains, salad, and chips. - MIX: First time I've seen NO CHARGE FOR AVOCADO SCOOP (usually other poke places charge an extra $1). Standard options of "crab" meat, cucumber, onion, etc. - PROTEIN: I think it's cool they go beyond your regular salmon, albacore, spicy tuna, and tuna. They also offer octopus, scallop, YELLOWTAIL (extra $0.75). and BLUE FIN TUNA ($1.75). The color of the seafood looked beautiful and fresh. It tasted great and minimal if any fishy smell. Wonderful texture. Spicy tuna not really spicy. - SAUCE: WEAK SAUCE. Not spicy at all. I love spicy food and even after ordering mine with spicy mayo and their house spicy sauce, I was so disappointed by the lack of heat. It's really more of a mild spice and I had to add some sriracha to my bowl. First time I've seen a cilantro-based sauce as a poke place. - TOPPINGS: The only stand out topping is their hot cheetos. It's fun to put on, but doesn't really stand out in terms of flavor once mixed in. They don't coat the hot chettos dust as much as Low-Key Poke Joint. It's really more of a small scoop. ~2 tablespoons worth. PRICE: I think it's competitive with other poke restuarants in terms of size to price. I don't think they give more or less than other places. The regular may not be enough for you if you eat a lot, but you will definitely get full by eating their large (5 scoops of protein). There is a remarkable difference between the regular and large size. Regular is $10.98 and large is $13.85. Overall: Poke Dot is a pretty solid poke restuarant. I think it's got your basics and the fish is very fresh, soft, and flavorful. I don't think there is anything particularly stand out or amazing about it. It gets the job done. read more

I arrived at 3:10. No customers one in the place. The employees were all in a huddle talking amongst themselves. One gentlemen walked up asked me what I needed with his earbuds on, gave him my order, didn't even give me what I wanted just slid my order to the next person. I said that's not what I wanted. She said what is it? I said I wanted this not that and she was just as rude as the previous person. I got to the end and paid. No thank you or have a good day they just went back into their huddle and continued to talk. I've been here over 20 times this was the first I was just treated like crap. I love that I can count on Poke Dot. They are always open, taste fresh & yummy, and consistent on portions served. They get a big double thumbs up for offering a veggie bowl which INCLUDES tofu! Take a lesson other poke joints, "veggie bowl should be offered for people that don't eat raw fish." Customer service is good here most of the time and parking is plentiful. I eat here 2 or 3 times a week and enjoy it each time. Great location too. Right off the freeway and John Wayne Airport. Cons: I'm not crazy about the sauces they have to choose from. Wish they offered an eel sauce or maybe a salt & pepper sesame oil concoction of some sort. Also, I wish they had a better rewards program. Right now it's a stamp card and after 10 purchases you get a side and drink. Maybe reward customers with a discount off of bowls or free bowls like alot of other poke joints offer. I have tried a lot of poke places but I think this one has the best quality ingredients. I started visiting this place when I got my new job in July 2019 in the Irvine area looking for places to get a bite to eat through Yelp. I often go to The Square to buy Starbucks or stop by the 7 Eleven for a quick pick me up, but I decided to give this poke place a try. One thing that I noticed is their method of ordering, very simple big bold letters and pictures of 1,2,3 steps and their portion sizes are fair and reasonably priced. I ordered a regular sized bowl (which included 3 scoops of protein) for $10 which I chose: Step 1 Base: - White Rice. Step 2 Mix: - Crab Meat - Cilantro - Cucumbers - Onions Step 3 Protein: - Salmon - Tuna Step 4 Seasoning & Sauce: - Mild Seasoning (Because I can't handle spicy food) LOL - Spicy Mayo Step 5 Toppings: - Ginger - Green Onion - Seaweed Salad I also love the way they layer all the ingredients because each bite you get a bit of everything. It can get very busy and crowded during peak hours of 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm because of the business surrounding the area as well as John Wayne Airport. The amount of fish you get in every scoop is very generous here and the fish is fresh. I dared to get the Large 5 scoops (salad only) and let me tell you, this was the first time I wasn't able to finish a poke bowl with such generous portions so kudos to Poke Dot for that. I love yellowtail so I didn't mind paying a little extra (normal extra charge at every poke place for premium fish). I also got the spicy tuna that had a nice kick to it. Fresh tuna is always a good go to and I wasn't didn't pointed her at all. I also asked for crab and most places will only give you one scoop unless you ask for a second but here two scoops were automatically served (maybe because I ordered a large?). Overall, the bowl was delicious and packed with generous portion sizes. The only thing I would have changed is, I would have asked for a little more of my sauce combinations on the actual salad instead of just with the fish. When sauces are mixed only with the fish and sides, sometimes you can find that the salad is dry and lacking a little sauce. Price point is like everywhere else but you get more fish for your dollar here! The service was quick, friendly, and helpful! There is also plenty of seating inside and a chill ambiance outside if you want some fresh air! I really enjoyed my bowl and will be back for more! read more

One of my favorite place to get poke from but after today's experience I don't know if I want to come back. I was helped out by this lady and she had the worse customer service. She was giving me attitude from when I walked in and when she was making my bowl she was just throwing it in there like she didn't want to help me out. Went here Sunday, January 8th 4:25pm. Very hard to hear the worker preparing your food for some reason. Rude worker, with the "I do not want to be here face" helped me. She asked "would you like crab or cucumber?" I said yes, she side stepped to the protein and asked what protein would I like. I asked her should I tell you what toppings I want? She rudely says, "everything's included". (what kind of answer is that to my question??) Anyways, I figured what she meant. I then asked, "Is the avocado free?" She rudely replied, "everything's included". At this point she has said said "everything's included" about 5 times to me. I am getting irritated because I have been asking different questions and she keeps replying with the same catch phrase. A phrase that honestly doesn't even make sense. When someone asks you different questions about something, please don't reply with the same phrase every single time. It comes off very rude. I asked if the manager can help me instead, she said "the manager is not here, I am the supervisor, would you like someone else to help you?" I said "yes because you are being very rude". She asked "how am I being rude?" I explain that she is not being helpful and looks like she doesn't want to help me. A guy with a light beard comes out the back to help me and says she's been here all day. I laughed and told her "oh you see, that's why you are being rude, because you've here all day and you don't want to help anyone". I kept yelling at her, "you don't want to help me! True or not?!" I yelled that 3 times and she didn't have any comeback for that because she knew it was true. I do hope that the General Manager or Owner she's this and explains to her that you need to treat your first and last customer with the same friendliness and respect. Even if you have a bad day, you have to put on your customer service face and voice. If I was a rude customer than I would expect rude service. But I was not rude to her, but she was rude to me because I was craving poke dot that afternoon... Message to PokeDot: Bottom line is, she should not be a supervisor. Please re-train her and teach her customer service skills. The least you guys can do is sit her down and explain what she did wrong in that situation. Also, the verbiage "everything's include" doesn't make sense... First time poke eaters will think, ok all these food items in front of me is included in the poke bowl. You don't hear a Chipotle worker saying "everything's included". What does that mean?? Please tell her say "what would you like in your bowl?" Came in on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm when i got my bowl made. Noticed it wasn't the usual staff but that didn't bother me much at all...until they started making my bowl. Now Pokedot is my go-to poke place and it's also my favorite poke place because of their friendly portions and reasonable pricing but what happened today was totally unacceptable. First of all, when the staff were making my bowl, they literally gave me the BARE minimum of portions. The rice was very little and the scoops of poke were barely full scoops. Everything they put in my bowl was less than normal portion size. Even though that bothered me, I just thought maybe they changed their usual scoops sizes a little so I let that slide. Not to mention, the bowl was a mess and they put the masago on the side of the bowl, not the top like it used to be. But honestly that didn't bother me at all, just an aesthetic difference. The thing that the really bothered me and caused me to make this yelp review was that once I got home (around a 5 min drive) the rice was COLD and in big clumps. NOT edible at all. Now I would understand if I had a long commute home and ended up with COLD and disgusting rice but it took me less than 5 mins to bring my bowl home and taste it to find yesterday's cold rice in my bowl mixed in with my poke. Long story short, loved this place and always had a pleasant experience for my poke bowls but walked in today to unfamiliar faces and a horrible experience. Especially the cashier guy at the end was quite friendly. - 2 hr after eating and the food still hasn't given me the runny tummy. (Better than the other poke place.) Dislikes: - hella crowded parking (Thu 1pm). - I thought I got in line at the front door. No one said I was accidentally cutting. No sign said anything. - Til finally the guy that I was accidentally cutting told me the line starts at the back door. Wow. The front door should have a sign saying the line starts at the back door. That was awkward. I didn't realize I was accidentally cutting half the line cuz I'd thought the ppl along the back wall were just waiting for their order or someone. - No mobile pay. I love the contactless, extra security, and easy tracking of spending that comes with mobile pay. - Handling credit cards = instant germ transfer. - Also, their machine takes credit card swipes, not chip inserts. Even less secure. - Hella expensive. Small bowl worth $12. Some disappointment there. - The bowl is packed so that it's hard to eat the bland rice at the bottom without eating the delicious ingredients at the top first. First time trying this restaurant, right now. There is a Hispanic man behind the counter kind of tall with hair on top. He gave me 2 small scoops of salmon and a spicy tuna. There was a tall man in back of me and he gave him basically three "double" scoops of salmon. I was starving so I was pissed at the difference. I'm a critic when it comes to poke and the fish is average, white rice sits for too long and wasn't cooked enough and the crab tasted like it was from Costco maybe sat too long also not sure. Not bad poke but pretty mid tier and unless you live near by this place is certainly not worth going out of your way for but it's a good spot and if your nearby they have decent poke.
