Sesame mochi with red bean filling
Ashley M.

What a cool place! My girlfriends and I came here for dessert after enjoying hot pot next door. The interior is fresh, cool, and modern -- adorned with tons of light fixtures that give it a warm, welcoming mood. We arrived around 8pm on a Thursday and we were the only ones there. The lady behind the counter was super friendly and very patient with us as we studied their overwhelming menu. Since it was freezing outside, she suggested a few hot drinks we could try and even offered to make any hot tea warm. My girlfriends both tried the Honey Citron tea and loved it -- perfect for a cold evening! I tried a warm Thai Tea, something I've only ever had cold, and they did a really great job with it! Not too sweet, not too overwhelming -- just right! We tried a variety of small snacks: sesame mochi with red bean filling, green tea cream puffs, and of course, the tornado potato. The tornado potato comes with your choice of BBQ or garlic pepper seasoning. It comes out on a huge tray, and is very tasty although not too crispy. The cream puffs tasted store-brought and just sprinkled with green tea flavor, but the mochi was good. Great, fun place to hang out - can't wait to come back when I have a bigger appetite and try their Poke bowl!

Mist Poke Dessert Bar rates somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me. In short, the poke bowls were great, the rolled ice cream was good, the potato tornado and smoothie were fine, and the light bulb tea was mediocre at best. Service was inconsistent for our large group despite the restaurant expecting us and having a full staff on-hand. However, I did appreciate the attention to detail in each poke bowl. Whereas many poke places will sloppily throw a bowl together, the folks at Mist carefully place each set of ingredients which resulted in some of the best looking poke bowls I've seen in metro Atlanta to date. And they're pretty tasty too. Mist opened in April 2017 in the Orient Center shopping plaza near the corner of Buford Highway and Chamblee Tucker Road. It's located next door to J's Mini Hotpot Deluxe. Both businesses have the same owners, Jay Xue and Lilly Zhao. Jay is the same J that J's Mini Hotpot Deluxe on Buford Highway and J's Mini Hotpot in Duluth are named after. Mist has a somewhat ambitious menu that tries to capitalize on many of the relatively recent Asian food fads that have popped up around town. They include the aforementioned poke bowls, pizza cones, and ice cream rolls along with sides like tornado potatoes and drinks like coffee, tea, and light bulb tea. With such a mishmash of stuff, I was skeptical of the quality. Fortunately, it's not bad and at times, quite good. The restaurant offers 5 different kinds of preset poke bowls priced at $12.95 to $14.95 each. You can also create your own poke bowl starting at $9.95 for a 3-scoop bowl and $12.95 for a 4-scoop bowl. Scoops refer scoops of protein like salmon, tuna, shrimp, tofu, etc. Many mix-ins and garnishes are included and premium toppings cost an extra $1 each. If you're trying to decide between a 3-scoop bowl and a 4-scoop bowl, the 4-scoop bowl appears to be a better value as you get significantly more food in the substantially bigger 4-scoop bowl. I had the Mist Signature Poke Bowl ($14.95) which comes with salmon, seared ahi tuna, Cajun shrimp, edamame, seaweed salad, cucumber, radish, red cabbage, fish roe, avocado, and crab meat salad. Since I'm allergic to shrimp, I had Lilly sub out the shrimp with an extra serving of salmon. Our group ordered several of these bowls and they were delicious. I was impressed with not only the colorful and beautiful presentation of the bowls, but the quality of the ingredients too. Everything was fresh and, for the most part, flavorful. I watched as both Jay and Lilly prepared various ingredients such as slicing open fresh avocados and hand-mixing poke sauces (which were very tasty, by the way). I enjoyed my poke bowl. It was satisfying. Everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs as well. Mist offers 6 kinds of pizza cones, from a Hawaiian pizza cone to a BBQ eel pizza cone and even a durian pizza cone. They're affordably priced at $4.95 to $5.95 per cone. The pizza cones are seasonal. We were told they're only available during the summer. This isn't noted on the menu and probably should be. The tornado potato ($2.99) is a deep-fried spiral-cut potato on a thin wooden skewer. This is a popular street food in South Korea. Mist offers the tornado potato in 2 flavors: garlic pepper and BBQ. We tried multiple orders of the garlic pepper and could barely taste any garlic flavor. Instead, the potatoes tasted like they were seasoned with regular salt. While the flavor wasn't what we expected, I thought the snack was still yummy and worth ordering. Check out the specials board. During our visit, we took advantage of their buy one, get one free banana and pineapple smoothie. Smoothies are made with real fruit and start at $3.99 for 16 oz. and $4.99 for 24 oz. Mixing 2 or more fruits costs more. Our smoothies tasted thin and a little watered down, but were also very icy and refreshing. Not bad. Coffee and tea start at $2.75 for 16 oz. and $3.50 for 24 oz. They have a decent selection of both milk and non-milk teas and toppings ($0.50 to 0.75 each) including more unique toppings like brown sugar boba and green tea jelly. Light bulb teas (tea served in a light bulb shaped container) cost $4.95 each. You can get any tea served in a bulb, not just the 3 they feature. I ordered one of the featured teas, the Blue Sky bulb tea with lychee popping boba. It was deep blue in color and had a fruity flavor. It was OK, but I personally didn't like it. It was too sweet for me. The light bulb container is more for the novelty than anything. Ice cream rolls start at $5.99 with select mix-ins and toppings an extra $0.50 to $1.00 each. There's a good variety of ice cream bases, mix-ins, and toppings to choose from. I tried one of Mist's 6 signature rolls, the Golden Gate, which has a Thai tea base with peach mix-in. I added coconut flakes, mango, mochi, and raspberry syrup. While the Thai tea ice cream didn't have the strongest flavor, overall, the dessert still hit the spot. I do recommend the ice cream rolls here.

Mist Poke Dessert Bar is an East Asian cafe fare (bubble tea, matcha lattes & elaborate waffles) served in a hip, modern space. This Buford Highway counter serve swings seriously modern, from the minimal wood-lined interior to the social media-friendly fare, which ranges from trendy bubble tea (served inside a light bulb) and matcha lattes to elaborate East Asian waffle concoctions both sweet and savory. Such a cute and adorable place. The food and drinks are yummy to taste and served in a visually appealing way. I have tried their Mist Signature Poke Bowl which consists of Salmon, Seared Ahi Tuna, Cajun Shrimp, Edamame, Seaweed Salad,Cucumber, Radish, Red Cabbage, Fish Roe, Avocado and Crab Meat Salad. The food tasted delicious. This can be enjoyed as one dish meal. Then I had their Honey Lime Green Iced Tea which was perfect to taste. Cool place to enjoy board games and snacks with family or friends. Price is a little steep. The place is clean and spacious with great decor. Service was good and they gave us the coupons for Hot Pot next door. A must visit hangout place.

Uber eats delivery bag

I ordered through Uber Eats so I cannot comment on the restaurant and staff. Therefore, this review is only on the food. I ordered the garlic pepper tornado fries and vegan poke bowl. Garlic pepper tornado fries: even though not super fresh (that's what happens to fries when ordered to-go), were still flavorful and had an enjoyable texture without having to put in the toaster oven. Vegan poke bowl: I was slightly concerned about this dish, because the menu online states that it contains fish roe, and if so, then it could not be vegan; actually not even vegetarian. But to my relief, there was not a roe on the dish. I ordered half and half with organic spring mix and brown rice. I was pleasantly surprised with the freshness and flavor of the ingredients; especially since I ordered late in the evening. I did have to make my own concoction of a sweet and spicy Thai sauce to add some pizazz to the dish though. However, I did see online, that they offer sauce options. That will be the route I'll have to go next time. Overall, I would visit this place again and perhaps use the coupon they attached to the delivery bag.

Want several Asian food trends at the same place? Then head on down to Mist Poke Dessert Bar. I ordered one of the Mist special poke bowls, the salmon one ($12.95). It contained salmon, edamame, seaweed salad, cucumber, radish, red cabbage, fish roe, avocado, and crab meat salad. The end product was quite colorful and worthy of a photo, especially drizzled with what I assumed was the house poke sauce, a pastel orange hue of a solution which contained a little bit of spice. If you don't feel like selecting one of the 8 special bowls, you can unleash your creativity by going with a custom bowl. There were almost too many choices which is one reason why I went with a special. I'm a poke newbie, but I found myself really enjoying my salmon bowl. There were lots of different textures and tastes, and all the ingredients were fresh. I can't say I noticed much fish roe, and the bowl could possibly be a little bigger, but I was very satisfied overall. The ordering system was kinda confusing and unclear. Apparently you choose and pay for most items unless you want a create your own bowl. For that, you have your bowl assembled first, then pay. And I heard from someone that pizza cones weren't available; they are only around in the summer. Seems weird, wouldn't a warm food be perfect for winter? And it took ages for us to get our bowls. Mist maybe needs to tweak their systems or something. You'll need to memorize the number on your receipt and listen carefully for it to be called. I didn't end up getting tea, but I did save some calories for the rolled ice cream ($5.99). Luckily there was no wait for that. I tried to be an edgy chef and daringly went with Thai tea with Oreos mixed in. Wacky, right? But surprisingly, it worked. The rolls were topped off with my choice of mango, strawberries, and coconut; you get three free toppings. If you're not up to whipping together your own concoction, there are 7 signature rolls to choose from. I was a little disappointed not to see my favorite drizzle, condensed milk, as a choice. Or at least it wasn't on the menu. The service was quite friendly and very welcoming. Parking is ample in the shopping center parking lot. There's free wifi, no password. Complimentary water and cups are located by the registers. I was given a coupon to try the hotpot restaurant nearby, J's Mini Hotpot Deluxe. I thought it was for 50% off and was all excited, until I looked closer and realized it was for 5% off. That's not as good. Anyway, I'll sure I'll be back to Mist for more poke goodness!

This is a great place to hang out with friends and have a small snack. It's definitely not filling if you have a big appetite. I got a pizza cone ($5.95?) and a poke bowl ($12.95?). The sushi was semi fresh, but not the freshest I would say. They also initially gave our pizza cone to the wrong table and then brought it back to us... so that was a mess up. I actually thought the poke bowl was a little expensive for what you get, not sure if they've improved since I've been a couple of months back. They had just opened at the time. The interior is nice and clean since it's a fairly new place so it's newly renovated. The service was good and friendly. As far as food, it was just ok. I wasn't impressed to be honest. If you are a poke bowl connoisseur then this place is definitely not for you.

The concept of Mist is a genius idea... in theory. Mist definitely fails at trying to provide too much in one place. I found this place on social media, and I thought it would be worth checking out since I love all the food that Mist offers. I mainly came for the poke bowl and was going to follow up with dessert. However, upon looking at the poke bar, I was already hesitant. The fish looked dried out and there were hardly any toppings. Due to my love of poke and because I was already there, I chose the eat it anyways. To my surprise, it tasted much better than I expected it to based on appearance. What disappointed me, however, was the portion size and cost. Not only was the employee pretty stingy with each scoop, but when I asked for a little more of a particular topping, he told me it would be an extra charge. An extra charge for just like maybe 5 more pieces of edamame? When the choice in toppings was already limited? You've got to be kidding. So then I proceeded to pick out other toppings, and he told me everything after that was an extra charge- which I'm assuming he told me that because I declined the extra charge for edamame. My friend didn't get the same luck and ordered a bunch of stuff before me from the extra charge section. But an extra charge for simple things like crabmeat, seaweed salad, masago, etc? Those are basic essentials at another poke location. Other minimal things were slow service, being out of a lot of things on the menu, lack of proper advertisement of the extra costs on the poke bowls, no apology for being out of so many things we asked about on the menu, and in general just not great customer service. Needless to say, I didn't end up ordering rolled ice cream after the poke bowls. I will say that this place was very clean and quiet though. I liked the dining area, and it would be a great place to come sit and hang out while snacking. The parking lot is large, and the menu definitely has a lot of different things to choose from (if in stock). Maybe I just came on and off night. Who knows. I can't say that I'll return though.

So thanks for charging us $6 and making our lunch (supposedly cheap) $26. I don't mind paying extra for the items, but at least make it transparent. Don't suggest me more items to add w/o telling me it's an extra so and so. I think that's a really cheap way to gain extra marginal profit, and it just loses my trust and respect for the business.

Thai Tea with Coffee Jelly
Tiff H.

Disclaimer: I have only had their beverages. I am just not impressed. They have quite a wide range of offerings that it was confusing. From poke to Thai rolled ice cream to bubble teas to crepes. It seemed like an odd hodgepodge of fad offerings. But I guess the shop name makes more sense now, as a snack and dessert bar. After dinner, we were already pretty stuffed, so none of the snacks really appealed to us. However, I did want something refreshing to cool my throat. I decided on a Thai Tea, with coffee jelly which is my standard milk tea order. It was alright, I asked for lighter sweetener and it was still pretty sweet. I did like the coffee jelly, though, as I don't know many bubble tea shops that offer that in Atlanta. I guess if I'm looking for a snack after a small meal, Mist has something for everyone. However, I don't recommend it if you're just looking for a beverage, as there are plenty of better options for that on Buford Highway.

Regular sized poke bowl ($9.99)
Fontaine C.

Mist is conveniently located on buford hwy at the same shopping plaza as Pho Bac. I came around lunch time to grab a quick poke bowl to go. Mist is very quiet around lunch time. Atmosphere (4 star): Quiet, modern and clean. It offers free wifi for customers. Food (4 star): The regular sized poke bowl is extremely flavorful and large enough for lunch. The protein and all toppings are very fresh. Several toppings, such as avocado, crab meat salad and squid salad require $1 extra; which I didn't add. However, just the free toppings made my bowl very yummy. Drinks (3 star): I feel the drinks here is just OK. Kung Fu tea ones are much better. The detox water is plainly overpriced.

Deluxe bowl (4 scoops: spicy tuna, smoked salmon, regular salmon)
Suhana E.

I came here for the first time based on reviews. I was craving poke bowl and this is very close to my work. It is located in the same plaza as Pho Bac, hence not a pretty plaza. Plenty of parking spaces though. The interior is very modern and clean. I love the design. They offer poke bowls, pizza cones, bubble tea, etc. It is a snack/dessert place. I ordered deluxe poke bowl (4 scoops). You choose the type of rice you want, proteins (spicy tuna, salmon, etc), toppings, sauces. You can mix up your proteins. I got one scoop of spicy tuna, 2 scoops of regular salmon, 1 scoop of smoked salmon (total of 4 scoops). I got all toppings and sauces. Deluxe bowl of 4 scoops is 12.95. Regular bowl of 3 scoops is 9.95. The food is excellent. It is very comparable to Poke Bar in Sandy Springs, however I think Mist has a bit bigger portion than Poke Bar's large size. Pricing about the same. Overall good food, cool atmosphere. I will return to try the pizza cone next time.

Ordered: rolled ice cream (see picture for details of order) - $6.50 + tax + tips Ambience: small Asian desert shop. Glass counters to make your poké and your desert. Pay at the counter. Find yourself a table. Pick up order from the counter. The ambience is mid century modern. Leather and Edison bulbs. Kinda cozy. Very well lit though. The leather chairs are very comfortable, great lumber support FYI. They have larger king tables and some smaller tables. Board games are available but they are very messy. So you can't even find all the pieces to be able to play. Review: from my experience, I've seen that when food places try to do 2 or more the quality of the food isn't the best. They make poké and desert. It's good cause it's a one stop shop but I've tried their desert and it's okayish. Maybe their poké would be better, but I doubt it. Now, my rolled ice cream. It was more bland (less creamy or milky). The Oreo cookie felt a slight bit stale. Kiwis were fresh and good. Had a lot of mochi. All put together, it was okay. I may come back for poké but maybe not for desert.

Poke bowl and potato tornado
Trisha B.

Mist is a casual snack place located off of Buford Hwy by Pho Bac, Viet Tofu, Hoa Binh Supermarket, and Orient Center. Mist's menu consists of poke bowls, potato tornados, and pizza cones for food. They also offer rolled ice cream for dessert, in addition to various kinds of teas (bubble tea, detox tea, and lightbulb tea). I've been here a few times to sample the different offerings. I've tried the lightbulb tea, bubble tea, poke bowl, and rolled ice cream. I have no complaints. Portions and pricing are comparable to competitors around Buford Hwy. I have yet to try the detox fruit water because for $4.99, it's a little too much to be paying for water, in my opinion. I plan on returning to try the pizza cone. Service is very friendly. It's in an easy to get to, quiet location. Perfect for a quick bite to eat or a casual hangout. You could even come here to study or do work. There are outlets underneath the seats. I gave them 4 stars because I didn't see anything special about it. They offer what many other places offer on Buford Hwy. Overall, I would recommend Mist.

The gyoza was delicious and table favorite Honestly, I even enjoyed the pork belly omelette. So flavorful... The fried rice was cooked well but was missing some seasoning/salt. Otherwise good. The Tapas & Kitchen: * Ankimo (Monkfish Liver): This was a standout. It was prepared perfectly--rich, velvety, and a great start to the meal. * Grilled Highlights: The kitchen really excels with the grill. The chicken skin is crispy and decadent, and the chicken liver is another major hit--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. * Seafood Favorites: My wife absolutely loved the steamed clams, and the grilled oysters were a hit as well. The octopus salad was also very fresh and well-balanced. The Sushi Bar: * Fish Selection: The quality and variety here are impressive. We ordered a mix of rolls and nigiri, including scallop, sweet shrimp, and tuna maki. * Quality: Every piece of fish was notably fresh. The only minor critique was the sushi rice--it was a bit dry for my personal taste, but the quality of the seafood more than made up for it. * Snail (Tsubugai): It's great to see more unique options like snail on the menu; it's a nice touch for those who appreciate traditional Japanese variety. The Experience: The menu is huge and well-rounded, offering something for everyone. Despite being our first time, the service was efficient and the pricing felt very fair for the quality and portion sizes provided.

5/23/25 Update (bad customer service):…read more We came back here once again as we are regulars here now. We came for the AYCE hot pot with our 3 year old as always. The Chinese lady waitress that has helped us before helped us today. She doesn't speak any English and doesn't ever acknowledge us. She didn't speak at all the entire time. I had to ask for tongs and crackers for the snow crab. She never bothered to check on us or fill my broth throughout while we were dining. We always tipped her and the staff well above 20%. The male Asian waiter didn't say anything to us as well and never checked on us. They might want to rethink their customer service and waiter skills and at least check on their customers especially their regulars. As always on a Friday night, there wasn't many other tables around. When we got our bill, my hands were full and I didn't check but apparently they never asked us how old are baby was and went ahead and charged him $10. Our 3 year old was always free here. By the time we paid and it was too late. The Chinese lady waitress was very rude when my wife was pulling out her cash tip and just stood there and waited for her to put the tip down. Never in our life, we had a waitresss stand there like that. My wife still gave us a more than generous tip as she definitely did not deserve it at all. They may want to retrain these employees as this really put a super sour experience. I don't plan on coming back for a long time if ever.

The tables are great, the decor is stylish, and everything feels well organized. The person who helped with my order was fantastic--knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming, and fast, all while keeping a warm, consistent smile. I'm definitely coming back to try more food--the ramen looked especially tempting! Not impressive with the containers but kudos to the paper cover.
