In comparison to other poké bar restaurants, the Duluth one falls flat in every way. The quality of practically everything here is seldomly consistent. Sometimes the rice will be overcooked, and sometimes it will be undercooked. The vegetables always look like they were cut haphazardly. The fish quality is on and off. I'll give it to them that they are pretty generous with their portions, but with everything that I listed, I don't even know if it's worth it. read more

I asked Mrs. K. what she wanted for dinner and she said, "Poké!" so I let Yelp find it for us along the way to where we're spending the night. We arrived at Poké Bar (it's a chain) at around 7pm on Friday and other than three other dudes eating their dinner and drinking some boba, we were alone. We noticed that the restaurant was clean as we checked over the poké bar, other than a whole lot of boxes stacked in the back. As we ordered our bowl, the tuna ran out but the young man serving pulled out a fresh tray from the cooler and removed the wrap. Yay! On a sticky white rice base, tuna and salmon, topped with spicy avocado, seaweed salad, krab salad and sesame seeds. With a bit of wasabi on the side that was not needed as the fish was perfectly fresh tasting. The rice was sticky enough that we did not need a fork and we cleared the plate. I was craving poke, and one of the closer ones is Poke Bar. I've been here before, but in a different location and have had good experiences. I ordered a small poke bowl with 1/2 of white rice and 1/2 of spring mix. With that, I got spicy tuna and salmon with some toppings if my choice with spicy mayo and ponzu. They mix the toppings, proteins except the spicy tuna with the sauces. There's not a lot of seating inside, so I went outside to eat. While eating, I realized that the proportion of the proteins and base were uneven. There was more base than proteins and toppings, and for $13 it was a bit overpriced. Service was also mediocre, wasn't good but wasn't bad. Overall, I can pay less for better quality food and service. Will not be coming back here again unfortunately. read more

I really liked how this place had a variety of sauces and seafood toppings. The price point was fairly decent. The topping portions were okay. If you don't know what a poke is about, it's primarily a raw, diced fish bowl. It's pretty much a build your own bowl with step by step choices starting generally with a base, proteins, side items, and sauces to finish it off. Think of a Chipotle or Moe's if you're not sure what I'm talking about. Their categories of mix in's, sides, and toppings made it seem like you get a little more variety. But I also do think they only give you a small pinch. I'm just recalling from very vague, past past memories of other poke places I've been to. My base was pretty unique. I had the kale (?) noodles for $1 more. I can eat pasta all day, but throw in the word veggies... Well, I dunno. But, the noodles were pretty tasty. If I wasn't told it was made from veggies, I would have thought otherwise. And this was served cold btw. I choose the small bowl with salmon and spicy tuna. I added kale, pineapple (that's pretty different), and cilantro as the mix-in's. The eel sauce was really unique as a choice. Imitation crab and seaweed salad as the sides. And finally crispy onion as the topping. The hub's bowl was a medium. He had tuna, scallop, and octopus as the topping choices. The hubs was giddy that they had corn as a mix-in bc you don't see this as an option at a lot of poke places. I won't go into detail what he choose to build his bowl, but you can at least see the size difference in my picture between a small (in black) and medium (in white). I went last Sunday around 5 ish so they are still open. Their (1) staff member at the time had a handkerchief covering with gloves so they are definitely practicing safety protocols. This is my favorite Poke place so far! They are very generous with the portions. It felt like a large bowl even though I got a medium one. I would say it's relatively reasonable as a medium bowl is $12.95. With everything going on around, poke bowls are a great choice as you can even eat it in your car if you're scared to dine in. I'll most likely get it again over the weekend. Usually I never mix fish and chicken for my proteins but this time I did, and I certainly loved it. It's not a poke bowl in Hawaii but it's pretty darn good! Definitely one of my favorite poke bars in the Duluth area. Prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The concept is simple. You pick your bowl size which dictates how many proteins and side options you get. I like the small bowl that gives you two proteins + two sides. From there you can pick your base, sauces, and other toppings. It's like Chipotle but with an Asian twist. Your base can be white rice, brown rice, mixed greens, or kale noodles. I opted for the kale noodles and loved it! Their proteins are always fresh. My favorites are the tuna and salmon. They also have tofu for vegetarian option. Toppings is a variety of vegetables. There's also avocado for an up charge, For sides - you can choose imitation crab salad, cucumber salad, and seaweed salad. There's a variety of sauces to choose from. I was really craving poke and went here with my partner. Unfortunately we were disappointed in the quality of the ingredients for the cost. The fish was tasty but the accompanying ingredients were lacking for the price they are charging. Think canned corn and canned pineapple. For the price we ended up paying (I think ~$30-40 for two people with drinks), I would hope the ingredients would be fresh and higher quality. It downgraded the experience. We ordered boba as well and the ingredients were not fresh either for the price, you can taste the artificial flavor. My matcha latte boba was very gritty. It seemed promising but we were disappointed once we tasted the food and drinks. It's too bad! I don't plan to go back and will continue my search for a better poke spot. read more

The food and service is very good here, but I was informed today that the employees do not receive the money people leave in the tip jar(to the right of the register). People who tip, think their money is going to the staff who made their food. Little do they know, the money that they are tipping here, goes to the business/owner. I'm sorry, but I already payed money to the business when I bought my Poke bowl. When people tip, it should go to the staff who is working. The owner should specify that the tip jar money does not go to the employees. I guarantee less people would put their money in that jar if they knew it wasn't going to the staff. So boyfriend and I came here to get lunch. We decided to try their ramen because why not. I had gotten spicy and he got vegetarian. I normally get vegetarian or vegan but today I was celebrating so I decided to try it. First of all, it wasn't spicy AT ALL. And it took them forever to get it out at like warm temp. Gross. Also the tofu wasn't marinated, which I wasn't surprised about. But damn. They really need to just focus on what they are good at: poke bar. I've learned my lesson, if I want ramen I'm going to an actual place that's specialize in it next time. Other than that I love their poke bar and the concept is cool overall. Impeccable customer service! Being new to trying poke, my SO and I had a lot of questions, and the guys behind the counter were super friendly, helpful, and patient. They greeted us upon entering and explained to us how their ordering process works. They walked us through it step by step... Literally. Step 1: Choose your size (S: 2 proteins, M: 3, and L: 4) and base (choice of white rice, brown rice, kale (upcharge), spring mix, or nacho. You can choose half and half) Step 2: Choose your protein (tuna, salmon, albacore, spicy tuna, octopus, shrimp, scallop, tofu) Step 3: Choose your mix (unlimited - sweet onion, cucumber, green onion, cilantro, kale, corn, pineapple, jalapeno, and edamame) and sauce (2 is recommended - house dressing, wasabi shoyu, ponzu, spicy mayo, and sweet chili) Step 4: Choose your sides and toppings, option of Pick 2 (imitation crab meat, seaweed salad, cucumber salad, avocado, tamago, and mango) or Pick 3 (masago, ginger, wasabi) Step 5: Choose your seasonings I had a small bowl with salmon, spicy tuna, brown rice and a TON of mixes and toppings ($8.95). My SO also had a small bowl, but with half & half brown rice and spring mix as base, octopus, spicy tuna and a variety of mixes and toppings as well ($8.95). The small was perfect for us. I was surprised at how much we got for a "small." We basically licked our bowls clean. That's how delicious and flavorful they were. My mouth is watering thinking about those bowls! Our total came to $18.97 with tax. Not bad, again, for the portions as well as the quality and flavor. The ingredients looked and tasted fresh. The restaurant was clean. It was small, but there's plenty of seating including outdoor seating. Parking can be a challenge on the weekends. We arrived just before 3pm on a Saturday. Pleasanthill Road was busy as usual and cars were coming in and out of the parking lot. Poke Bar's side of the parking lot is a bit small, and shared by a check cashing business and Einstein Bros. Bagels. However, there's more parking on the other side of Einstein Bros where Saigon Cafe, Starbucks, and Bed, Bath and Beyond are. We can't wait to return! read more

So stoked to write my first Poké review! Trying new things can sometimes be hit or miss for me, especially if I've prejudged that might not like it. I'm not a huge fan of sushi and the idea of eating what is basically sushi in a bowl didn't sound very appealing to me. But if you catch me in the right mood, on the right day, and the sun, moon & stars all aligned in the right way, then I'm generally open to trying different things! I am so happy that I did because I believe I've found my next food obsession! I'm a true food addict, and when I like something I REALLY like it! Which means I'll crave it practically every day for weeks or months on end! I get a feeling poke it going to be a staple in my diet for many years to come! The exciting part for me is that since my wife's main dietary preferences lean towards being vegetarian, we can both enjoy this place together, which is rare since I'm a diehard carnivore. [ THE EXPERIENCE ] While driving home today I passed Poké Bar for the umpteenth time. I'd been contemplating what I wanted to eat for most of the afternoon. I get in these moods sometimes where I just want something new and different and not even my favorite meals at my favorite restaurants sound appealing. So when passing the bright orange Poké Bar sign, my subconscious seemed to take control of my body as I suddenly and without thought turned into the parking area. Still not sure, I was hesitate to walk I through the door. Once inside, the team behind the counter were very patient with helping me understand how to order Poké. It's funny how everything aligned just right. This is a busy place, but for the first few minutes of my visit no one came in behind me allowing the staff to be extra attentive. Even a customer sitting at a nearby table got involved as she suggested I do a combo of brown rice and mixed greens as my base along with highly recommending the house sauce & spicy mayo together. [ HOW TO ORDER ] If you've never tried Poké, the first thing into the bowl is your "base", which is a choice of white rice, brown rice, lettuce or mixed greens. You can also combo your base. Next into the bowl are your proteins such as tuna, spicy chicken, shrimp, etc. I chose the "medium" bowl which allows 3 proteins. Here they hold the proteins to the side until you decide on your sauces, which they then mix with the proteins. Next into the bowl are your veggies, then salads such as crab salad, seaweed salad and cucumber salad, then extra cost add ons. The square egg omelets are $1 additional, which almost made me pass, but I'm so glad I didn't. Those little egg cakes were so good and I can't imagine having Poké without them. Your bowl should be near overflowing at this point! As if all of those option were not enough, you then have several toppings to choose. Furikake is a sesame seed & spice blend that makes your rice (as well as everything else in your bowl) taste incredible. I highly recommend adding it along with roasted garlic & roasted onions to your meal, both of which my eyes though were chopped peanuts. When all was said and done, I'd chosen the following ingredients: [ POKE BOWL ] - 1/2 brown rice - 1/2 green mix - Spicy Chicken - Salmon - Shrimp - Edamame - Corn - Tobiko - Pineapple - Cucumber - Green Onions - Spicy Mayo & House Sauce - Seaweed Salad - Crab Salad - Masago - Crispy Garlic - Crispy Onions - Furikake [ FINAL THOUGHT ] Never in my wildest imaginings did I think Poké would be one of my favorite foods ever. However, after only one try I'm hooked! I'm actually kinda mad I hadn't tried it before now! But rest assured I will be making up for lost time in the coming year. Every year I declare one food as my favorite find. In the past that has included pho, ramen, oxtails, shrimp n' grits, a seafood omelette and a bacon jam burger. I went to this restaurant to introduce my boyfriend to this type of food where it's basically deconstructed sushi in a bowl. I went here years ago but decided to revisit because of how good the food is. When I walked in it still had a refreshing atmosphere with the orange accent chairs that were very aesthetically pleasing. When walking in, you see the counter where you can construct your sushi bowl and all of your options are on the menu behind the counter on the wall. Since I haven't been here in a while I wasn't sure what I was going to get other than the rice and shrimp. Since my boyfriend and I were trying to figure out what we wanted to include in our bowl we were taking a little while to decide. At first the worker seemed patient and I even apologized for how long we were taking but he didn't say anything to us. He did mess up once by not putting a certain item in one of our bowls but I corrected him and he apologized and added it to the bowl. Now here is where the worker messed up. We paid for our food and were getting to ready to walk out the door but we remembered that we didn't have any silverware. I simply asked where the forks were to which the worker responded "over there where all the other utensils are" with an attitude. The other girl that was working there let out a giggle but that was nothing funny to me. Instead of being rude about the question he should've simply directed us to the silverware and kept his rude thoughts to himself. I arrived at about 11:45am for lunch. Parking was a bit of a struggle as all the closer spots were taken, but I parked closer to the Starbucks and just walked over. If you've never been to a poké place before, it's set up like a Chipotle. This one doesn't have a menu besides the customization options, which was fine for me as I usually make my own anyway. The types of bases (rice or greens), veggies, protein, and sauces were pretty standard. What was nice was that you could get seaweed salad, masago and other things without an extra charge. I got a small with salmon and octopus, white rice and salad mix. It's basically the same bowl that I get at a poké place by Georgia Tech. All of the ingredients were very fresh and delicious. The only complaint I have is that there could have been a bit more sauce that would help coat the salad and rice as I like to mix my bowl up before eating. While going back to Charlotte, we wanted to find a Poke shop for dinner. We landed on here because it was on the way and also Starbucks was across the parking lot and I would need to have some coffee before heading back to Charlotte. Poke Bar is pretty normal like other poke shops. The one thing that sort of came out though was that there was something a little off about this place. I think there's a smell of wet towels when I visited? I'm not sure what that meant if it was because of cleaning solutions or if it was something else. Anyways, I got the large on a salad and I thought the portions weren't bad. The amount of proteins were pretty good so we both enjoyed it. I think this place would be a great place to do takeout as there's limited seating here. There's a lot of Poke spots around the city and I think if you're craving for Poke, this place can satisfy that craving and hunger. The best poke bowl I had so far!!!!! I got the brown rice with the new protein that they offer - i think it was tuna. I got the spicy new protein and salmon, mixed in with corn, edamame and cilantro. I didn't know which sauce to get so they recommended spicy mayo + sesame oil, and house sauce (I guess- there is one sauce that is the most popular). Garnishing with seaweed salad and roe. Top with onion, garlic crunch, spicy crunch, and the seaweed and sesame thingy (Yuki...I don't know how to spell it). It was the bomb!!!! Service was so nice. I did not imagine I would love deconstructed sushi this much, but having it in a bowl and eating it with a spoon was actually more awesome than eating actual sushi with chopsticks. And cheaper! It's one of the cheapest options if you want raw fish; $30 fed three people well. I walked in for a quick family lunch. We each got a medium-sized bowl (you can choose 2 proteins for a small, 3 proteins for a medium, and 4 proteins for a large). There are a lot of options for protein, base, and toppings. The service was very nice and quick! I stole a couple of spoonfuls from everyone's poke bowl, so I basically got to try all of the different proteins, veggies, and sauces in one visit. All of the raw fish tasted fresh, as did the veggies. The sauces were great as well; my favorites were the spicy mayo and and sweet chili, which added some kick to my poke bowl. They also have avocados for $1 more which I always get. The staff is very nice and friendly while taking my order. Overall service was always great here so I keep coming back.
