Night time at Poke Bar, Duluth
Bruce K.

I asked Mrs. K. what she wanted for dinner and she said, "Poké!" so I let Yelp find it for us along the way to where we're spending the night. We arrived at Poké Bar (it's a chain) at around 7pm on Friday and other than three other dudes eating their dinner and drinking some boba, we were alone. We noticed that the restaurant was clean as we checked over the poké bar, other than a whole lot of boxes stacked in the back. As we ordered our bowl, the tuna ran out but the young man serving pulled out a fresh tray from the cooler and removed the wrap. Yay! On a sticky white rice base, tuna and salmon, topped with spicy avocado, seaweed salad, krab salad and sesame seeds. With a bit of wasabi on the side that was not needed as the fish was perfectly fresh tasting. The rice was sticky enough that we did not need a fork and we cleared the plate. Quite delicious, filling and fresh tasting. We'd eat at Poké Bar again! [Review 2273 of 2024 - 770 in Georgia - 23290 overall]

Hair in my food. Never going back! First and last time. So unfortunate. I usually go to the Lawrenceville Suwanee road location and this has never happened.

I was craving poke, and one of the closer ones is Poke Bar. I've been here before, but in a different location and have had good experiences. I ordered a small poke bowl with 1/2 of white rice and 1/2 of spring mix. With that, I got spicy tuna and salmon with some toppings if my choice with spicy mayo and ponzu. They mix the toppings, proteins except the spicy tuna with the sauces. There's not a lot of seating inside, so I went outside to eat. While eating, I realized that the proportion of the proteins and base were uneven. There was more base than proteins and toppings, and for $13 it was a bit overpriced. Service was also mediocre, wasn't good but wasn't bad. Overall, I can pay less for better quality food and service. Will not be coming back here again unfortunately.

Medium bowl: tuna, scallop, and octopus as the proteins.

I really liked how this place had a variety of sauces and seafood toppings. The price point was fairly decent. The topping portions were okay. If you don't know what a poke is about, it's primarily a raw, diced fish bowl. It's pretty much a build your own bowl with step by step choices starting generally with a base, proteins, side items, and sauces to finish it off. Think of a Chipotle or Moe's if you're not sure what I'm talking about. Their categories of mix in's, sides, and toppings made it seem like you get a little more variety. But I also do think they only give you a small pinch. I'm just recalling from very vague, past past memories of other poke places I've been to. My base was pretty unique. I had the kale (?) noodles for $1 more. I can eat pasta all day, but throw in the word veggies... Well, I dunno. But, the noodles were pretty tasty. If I wasn't told it was made from veggies, I would have thought otherwise. And this was served cold btw. I choose the small bowl with salmon and spicy tuna. I added kale, pineapple (that's pretty different), and cilantro as the mix-in's. The eel sauce was really unique as a choice. Imitation crab and seaweed salad as the sides. And finally crispy onion as the topping. The hub's bowl was a medium. He had tuna, scallop, and octopus as the topping choices. The hubs was giddy that they had corn as a mix-in bc you don't see this as an option at a lot of poke places. I won't go into detail what he choose to build his bowl, but you can at least see the size difference in my picture between a small (in black) and medium (in white). I went last Sunday around 5 ish so they are still open. Their (1) staff member at the time had a handkerchief covering with gloves so they are definitely practicing safety protocols. Guests did keep their distance as best they could while waiting to order.

"Popping strawberry boba"

The bowl wasn't even mixed properly and the "strawberry popping boba" wasn't even popping boba. If you don't have the type of boba please just inform me instead of charging me for it.

Medium Bowl $12.95 Protein: Spicy Chicken, Spicy Tuna and Shrimp Avocado $1 up charge Unlimited veggies Brown rice and Kale for the base

This is my favorite Poke place so far! They are very generous with the portions. It felt like a large bowl even though I got a medium one. I would say it's relatively reasonable as a medium bowl is $12.95. With everything going on around, poke bowls are a great choice as you can even eat it in your car if you're scared to dine in. I'll most likely get it again over the weekend. Usually I never mix fish and chicken for my proteins but this time I did, and I certainly loved it. I also added avocados even though it was a dollar up charge because avocados make everything taste good.

Food is decent . Thanks to the cashier dude he gives me plenty of food . Fruits are probably stored in cooler that's why it's a little cold but all fresh . And the Asian dude who ( wears ghostbuster shirt )works in the kitchen is cute . Will be back again .

Always a tasty choice to eat at Poke Bar. The options and combinations are endless and food is simply awesome. Great staff, fair prices and quick service.

Thank goodness for Poke Bar! Located off Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth in the plaza with Einstein Bros. I needed something healthy-ish. Outdoor seating is available. Order inside. I ordered the salad with no protein. I packed up the toppings though. Also got a drink. Delicious food, I just wanted a bit more "dressing" on it. I was full and felt great. Definitely will come back. 73/2021

WOW! This place…read morereally lives up to its name. My friend recommended this place to me because I am a poké bowl addict. When you walk through the door, you are greeted with a really mellow and soothing ambiance. The place is decorated nicely--very similarly to cafes and bakeries in Duluth. When you walk around, you see that they've received plenty of awards, and they definitely deserve them. The poké bowl itself was remarkable! The portions are very generous, and the fish are fresh and not fishy at all. The way you build your bowl here is also pretty generous as well when it comes to the sides compared to other poké places. They also make some drinks in-house that are organic and sugar-free. They press it themselves, and it is pretty good as well. The customer service is probably the best I've experienced in a long while. They have a filing system that records what you've ordered in the past, so my friend was able to see his order from 5 years ago. That's wonderful. The employees were so attentive and patient. They assisted me with making my bowl and gave me recommendations. They also check up on you while you eat, which was a kind gesture. This is the best poké spot in the area, and I would dare to say near Duluth. I highly recommend this place.

Bottom Line: I'd only recommend this place if you're already…read morehanging at Town Green(Downtown Duluth). Decent food but a bit pricier than what I think it's worth. The building itself is called the Sweet Octopus. It seemingly houses four different businesses(although they may just be four distinct menus with the same business): Poke Burri, Lifting Noodles Ramen, Thai & Sushi, and Empanadas House(second floor). The first two menus are served inside on the first floor. I'm not sure about the Thai & Sushi Menu. I thought I saw on the online menu that you could create your own sushi burrito, but the menu at the restaurant only has custom poke bowls. Go online to their website to see the Secret Menu. I would have tried the sushi pizza from that menu but I was ordering takeout, so maybe next time. Atmosphere: Very nice and comfortable. Outdoor seating available, plenty of natural sunlight indoors, medium noise level from the kitchen, very spacious. Strings of lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling. Food: I got an order of Fried Gyoza for my appetizer. Four pieces for with gyoza sauce for $5 was a fair price. The dough was a bit stale and the sauce was more sweet than I'm used to, but the pork filling was great. I got the $16 Best of the Best Burrito for my entree. I feel like they could drop the price a few bucks. $16 for what I got didn't really seem worth it. Another review said the burritos were the size of egg rolls. They're definitely bigger than that. Mine filled me up. The fish tasted pretty fresh to my surprise. On the other hand, it wasn't that tender. I pulled a long strip of salmon out of the burrito with my teeth because I couldn't bite into it. It was also so sweet. Looking at the ingredients, it should not be sweet. I didn't like it very much. If it were better, I'd still find a $12-$13 price tag more reasonable. Service: There wasn't much to say about this as it was a fast food restaurant. The server was an average server. I didn't bother checking the cleanliness of the tables since I ordered takeout. My food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Overall: I do agree this place is slightly overpriced, but that was just for my burrito. The poke bowls definitely looked very overpriced. I wouldn't come for those. This entire area is meant to stroll through to relax. If you're already here, the sushi burrito can be fun for kids or a date. That's what I would recommend you visit this restaurant for. If you're looking for a poke bowl, you can very likely get a good bowl elsewhere for a much lower price. Definitely wouldn't go out of my way for this place if I were craving sushi but out of rare convenience, I would.
