Pancit - if you compare my old photo you will see the lack of meat now - still good but different
    Gretchen S.

Kuya's was a godsend when I first moved to Gwinnett County 4 years ago. Estrellita was too far and didn't have the best parking for regular visits, Kamayan was not open yet (still haven't tried them), Manila Mart had limited items during the pandemic, so Kuya's was really my go-to for Filipino comfort foods for take-out. Over the years I have supported this business and the food and service has been consistently great. However, a few months ago I tried ordering Uber Eats from here. I was pleasantly surprised to see them on the app as they were not on there for the years previously to my knowledge. I know they have undergone new management and new staff preparing the meals. I believe I have had at least one meal from them since the change. This time was different though. I ordered my usual items - lumpia, pancit, pinakbet, and Halo Halo. The lumpia and Halo Halo were both good and about the same I've been used to. However, the pancit and pinakbet had really no meat to be seen. I'm not sure if they've gone a more vegetarian route or why this was the case, but as someone who is used to the traditional pork and shrimp in the dishes, I was very sad to see none. Because of this, the meal was also greatly lacking in the flavor and seasoning I'm used to. It was still a decent meal, but I've never had vegetarian pancit or pinakbet - there might have been traces of meat but nothing visible or discernible. It was not my favorite way to have both dishes. I'm still a supporter of Kuya's and will still try them again, but I would hope that for the meat lovers/traditional taste buds they would not skimp on meat in the future. If you look to my old review you will see the huge difference in the dishes from old chef to new. In any case, it is still the closest Filipino restaurant to me and I have not seen better competition in the area yet, but I will try Kamayan hopefully soon and see how it goes. I cannot speak to any recent ambiance changes as I have not been down in person in several months.

The service was so friendly and the lechon blew my mind. It was perfectly crispy and crunchy on the outside, super tender and juicy in the inside. The vinegar sauce perfectly cut the fattiness and balanced out the dish. So happy to have authentic lechon in Duluth.

Came here based off a recommendation from my wife's Filipino friend and decided to check them out while we were in Duluth. We asked the cashier who was the owner for some recommendations and she was very helpful in making some great choices. The food dishes were excellent! We got two entrees, an appetizer, and a Filipino drink. Tip: try adding some of the hot sauce (available upon request) and sweet sauce (dipping sauce for the Lumpiang) to the main entrees for extra flavor!

My partner & I had a weekend trip to GA & we def wanted some Filipino food for our trip. We were so glad we found this place! Located inside City Farmers Market, you'll see tons of food stalls that's majority Asian food. Since my partner is Filipino himself, he's very particular with certain dishes. As we browsed through their menu so far we liked what we see, & for the price point it wasn't too bad. We ordered their lumpia shanghai, pork sisig, pancit palabok, & pork bbq skewers. My favorite dish was the pork sisig! The crispy pork, rich liver pâté, sautéed onions & the creamy mayo & over easy egg blended together in perfect harmony; creating the most savory sizzling dish. He was craving something with shrimp, & the palabok def hit the spot!

My second time here and I've grown more in love with this place. This time around we ordered their seafood special of sweet and sour fish, tokwa't baboy (fried tofu and pork), sizzling sisig, ginataan, pork lumpia and turon. We didn't wait long for our food to arrive. The sweet and sour fish brought me back home to the homeland. You do share the space with other diners at the food court, but it's worth trying if you're in the area and want Filipino food.

Kuya's is "under new management" does not fully capture all of the good things going on in this food stall in Duluth. First, credit is due to the original Kuya who started here. But Kuya Patrick who has recently taken over as owner and chef (originally from the Philippines before coming from restaurants in New York) has completely overhauled the menu and is constantly adding specials as announced on Instagram, it's hard not to be tempted to come in on a near daily basis! I was raised in my parents' restaurants. At first, in fine dining then in Filipino restaurants in Jersey City, NJ when they decided they wanted to own their own place. Like the original Kuya here, food was priced low and the service was pretty slow. The clientele was predominantly Filipino with the exception being a Caucasian spouse married to a Filipino. Very occasionally, there would be a friend who would tag along with the promise of lumpia and would be an adventurous eater. This was before Anthony Bourdain ventured to the Philippines (twice!) and introduced millions to Halo Halo, Jollibee, lechon, the generosity of overseas Filipino workers and our love for Journey (google Arnel Pineda singing "Don't Stop Believing" and you will be a believer). I write all that to say this: Kuya Patrick has cracked the code. The quality of the food is amazing. The service is much faster than other Filipino places I have grown up with. The food is so accessible even for non Filipino audiences. The prices are a little higher compared to the old days (yes, a few people came in over my visits complaining to this point but they do not understand of the significant quality differences and the food costs at play). Filipino food benefits from home cooking flavors (much like Indian food, IMHO). Somehow, the new Kuya's has been able to capture the essence of Filipino cuisine without sacrificing the quality of a restaurant experience. Where the original Kuya and my own father, for example, were first in establishing restaurants, they were unwilling to compromise on the techniques and flavor of home cooking to produce Filipino food. With other countries in Southeast Asia, Filipino food seems to be having a moment only because younger chefs like Kuya Patrick are cracking the code. And here are the items I tried over a few visits: Lumpia Shanghai ($5.99) - classic, most non Filipinos will recognize this as their introduction to our cuisine especially if they have been to a potluck or if they work with a Filipino friend! Palabok ($10.99) - I like the noodles are a little thinner here. A little different. Lechon Kawali ($12.99) - good portion size, nice and crispy. Halo Halo ($7.99) - classic, my only quibble is that it's a little overpriced. Sizzling Sisig ($12.99) - the raw egg on top is a very nice touch, you can tell that Kuya Pat is a trained chef! Definitely want to eat this at the table. Taking this to go would be a tragedy. Chicken a la Max ($21.00) - a whole chicken in the style of Max's, the Filipino chain. My daughter and I loved this dish. It was a special so I'm not sure how often this is going to be on the menu. But we loved it! Kare Kare ($18.99) - perfectly executed, great portion size. This is what Filipino food is all about. Peanut sauce, greens, ox tail, beef. Amazing. Just like my Dad used to make! Fried Pompano ($16.99) - this fish special was incredible! I hope this is a recurring menu item. But it was perfectly cooked. My daughter and I devoured this and we are not usually seafood fans.

We had lunch at Kuya's Food Express! The owner Patrick , was the one who will serve you with his personalized authentic customer service! Tastes like home! Malabonian It is!! The gem inside the City Farmer's Market food hall in Duluth.

Another dinner at Kuya's. There are 17 of us for this fellowship. Amazing that Patrick was able to provide quick delivery and no mistakes with anybodies order. If you do now know, Kuya's is located in The City Farmers Market in the food court in Duluth. Since we got here at 8:00pm, we had the food court for ourselves As always, I love this place. Patrick is awesome! You need to try Kuya's Food Express

    Chopsuey

I just moved from Northern California and was so excited to find a Filipino food place. But this place is disappointing. I ordered the pansit bihon and Chopsuey. First of all, I was charged $9.32 for each orders but their sign said they're $8.99. I thought they were pre-taxed but when I looked at the receipt, I got charged tax on the bottom line. The sign on the board said the Chopsuey has shrimp on it. If you look at the picture - no shrimp. I already thought they were expensive initially, but I thought it would be good and worth it. I was wrong. For the price, it's not worth it. For the quantity, it's also not worth it.

So I've never had Filipino food and I can't really state how authentic it is since I have nothing to compare it with. Located inside a farmer's market food court, I saw it and got curious. A lot of their dishes seemed somewhat similar to Latin dishes but I know it comes from similar history backgrounds. The place is small and in a corner so it can be easy to miss. Not sure if it's usually like this but it was very cluttered with boxes stacked high on the side, the counter was also very crowded but it did have an array of Filipino snacks which are very appealing. Wanting a quick bite, I decided on their Lumpia as well as their tofu and pork appetizer. I'm assuming that the gentleman attending was by himself because he would disappear to the back, maybe cooking, and would not come up despite us calling him various times. He was a nice guy but it did take forever to order and get our food. Went with my niece, she was not a fan but I actually really liked the appetizers. Hopefully the other dishes are just as amazing. I would not mind checking it out again.

Longsilog Standard comes with 3 sausages. We ordered extra.
    Phuong D.

Kuya's is the first Filipino restaurant I've been to and my first time trying Filipino food too. It's located in the corner of Assi food court. We ordered Longsilog (Sausage, Egg and Rice ~$5.99). A standard plate comes with only 3 sausages. So we got 4 extra sausages, total of 5 on each plate. The food took about 15-20 minutes to come out, each plate made to order. It was a sunny side up egg on top a bed of garlic rice. The sausages are on the side, each about the size of a thumb (pretty small in my opinion). So judging the amount of rice given, 3 sausages would have left me with some rice left over. Overall, the food was good. The rice didn't have too much garlic and the sausages weren't too salty either. I would come back to try their other plates if in the area.

Kuya's Food Express Filipino Restaurant was recommended to me by Filipino neighbors. I have eaten Filipino foods since my younger days growing up in San Diego (huge Filipino population) and have grown to appreciate this cuisine! I stopped here for lunch during a weekday. I ordered the Pansit Combo for $10.00 (pansit, lumpia, BBQ and fresh veggies). I also ordered the Lechon Kawali to go. Both orders were pretty good. If eating in the food court Kuya's serves your meal on real plates and utensils (nice). Meals are authentically Filipino as is the staff. This eatery is small and is a counter-front restaurant in the food court in the City Farmers Market of Duluth. Recommended!

Also an absolute must and my #1 dish recently - the eggplant curry. If you're a protein bro and resistant to get get vege dishes - trust me you still want this one. Just get some extra wings (which are bangers too). I like the idea of the fried fish but as a seafood snob it was average (usually I hate in seafood). The noodles (one with the bean) was excellent. So you need to be diligent in the first place to get a reservation and after arriving, I realized why because the place was completely packed even for an early scheduled dinner. It is located in a huge strip mall with a bunch of other restaurants and a lot of shared parking, but it gets full so you have to get lucky to find a spot and luckily parking is free While the website says they welcome walk-ins I can tell you now that on the weekend for dinner dinners good luck This was our first time here and we ordered quite a few items as you can tell from the photos. While the food is good, I will tell you that it is unique while still authentic for example, the crispy Palabok pancit is quite trendy. The lumpia Shanghai was good and you could actually taste the pork. The dessert of the flan combined cake was also good and not overly sweet. The chicken adobo was a bit on the salty side. And frankly, I thought there would be more chicken. The pork barbecue skewers were good, but not sweet and usually Filipino barbecue is supposed to be more on the sweeter side. The Halo halo was unique in the sense that it had some odd fixings on it such as marshmallows and candy that are not part of a special let alone traditional version of this. It also was missing quite a few ingredients that are what I would deem required. For example, no jackfruit and no sweet beans. I have to say, though this place definitely does justice to the Filipino culture and Filipino cuisine overall it is still a great strong restaurant that I would recommend you go to and check out. I have no other comparisons for the area, but this was definitely well worth the visit. The decor is absolutely incredible as well. Truly authentic and pays good homage to the culture and country. Congratulations to these owners and cooks for all that they have accomplished and so happy to be able to patronize Filipino owners. If I'm back in the area, definitely would come back here and try other dishes and I hope that it is all just as delicious as this meal.

Store Size and Selection This place is very, very big with a strong selection of Korean groceries and everyday staples. What surprised me most was how much more there is beyond food - tons of interesting cookware, cooking tools, and fun items to browse. Produce and Freshness The fresh produce was top quality and noticeably fresh. You can tell this store serves a community that expects high standards, and the quality shows. Prices and Deals There were a lot of sales and discounts throughout the store. Great value overall, especially considering the freshness and variety. Samples and Experience The sampling situation is next level - way more sample corners than you'd ever expect Costco to provide. Sample sizes are smaller than Costco, but it's still totally worth it because you get to try a wide variety of Korean flavors. It felt like tasting little snippets of Korean culture as you shop. Service, Cleanliness, and Atmosphere Everyone we interacted with was so kind and helpful, and the service was amazing. The store was also very clean. Bonus: the music was clearly catered to millennials (late 20s to 40s), and it genuinely brought back childhood and teenage nostalgia. Inside Businesses (Restaurants, Salons, Etc.) We also enjoyed that there are restaurants and salons inside. Everything looked nice, and pricing seemed pretty reasonable. Why it stands out in Duluth Duluth has a strong Korean community, and Mega Mart really reflects that in the quality, freshness, and overall experience. Would we return? Yes - 100%. It was busy inside, but our party of 10 was promptly seated, though we were a little squished into a circular table. I didn't remember this last time, but instead of telling a server what you want, you mark it down on a paper menu and hand it to the server. This time I got the Grandma's BBQ Pork Noodles and the Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp Garlic Noodle. I was really excited to try both since they both sounded so good. Ultimately the Grandma's BBQ Pork Noodle was a little underwhelming - the noodles themselves weren't very flavorful, and the BBQ pork was on the drier side. The pork did have decent flavor, and all the toppings/side items (wontons, fried egg, bok choy) were great, but all in all fell a little short of my hopes. The Salted Egg Yolk Garlic Noodles had better flavor, but I could've used even more garlic and butter. The shrimp definitely carried the salted egg yolk flavor, but the fried batter was a bit soggy/soft in my opinion. I wished it was crisper. Upon entry, the warm smells of steaming sweet potatoes greets you! I think you can buy a bag & snack while you shop! I highly recommend eating BEFORE you go here, or you'll be tempted to buy a little bit of EVERYTHING! All the eastern Asian flavors and popular brands as well as the generics, Latin items, American staples, from fresh to frozen! The fresh seafood and hot deli items was cool. Outside of the grocery side, there is a good size food court section and many cute boutique shops that sell skincare products, cute Asian items and clothing. Friendly service. Price is not any cheaper compare to the east cost Hmart, but quality is consistent. Large shopping center with ample parking. Highly recommend.
