She knew it was my first time there and recommended what I was pretty much going to order so I took that as a great sign. Sesig seemed a little small but was flavorful. It was very spicy for me but It was an addictive spice. To accompany this, I got an order of their stir fried green webs which had a sweet and savory flavor with a small hint of spice. Highly addictive. I liked these more than the Sesig. I don't mean that as a bad thing, but I'd go back just for these! Ambiance is loud. Lots of people crammed into a smaller space that is optimally situated to accept as many people as possible. Very organized and well oiled. The use of the radios among the loud crowd might not make this a good "date night spot" if you're wanting to talk or if you're fine with your discussion getting lost in the noise. Horrible service and RACIST! Waited 20 minutes after our reservation time for a white/filipino couple to be seated before us when we arrived before them and had the same reservation time. After we brought it to their attention they offered for us to sit at the bar, so passing us over with a reservation was acceptable!! The food is good but beware of the racist treatment!! Update for owner: When we're the only black party waiting after arriving early for our reservation and see people who arrived after us be seated before us, with no acknowledgment to us, what else are we supposed to think? No apology in the moment, only dismissed. You weren't at the front when this occurred and even the people who were seated before us, with the same reservation time and arrived after us offered to give us their table when this happened because they also knew what was happening wasn't appropriate! The customer offered! Not your staff! So there is a disconnect with what you expect and what's happening in real time. Train your staff better! Did your staff call to apologize? Yes, but 15 minutes later when we were already seated at another restaurant. (It's Buford Hwy, there's good food everywhere.) I asked to speak to a manager but wasn't allowed and asked for the managers name repeatedly but wasn't given it. So again, where is the disconnect? Your response only continues the issue that there is room for improvement, only denial about a situation you weren't present for. If the other customers saw how we were being treated and offered the table to us, your staff still in that moment did not feel the need to correct the situation and the only difference between the parties was race, then you tell me what were we supposed to think? read more

Didn't realize we needed a reservation, but were able to take two seats up at the bar, which was a fun place to sit and watch various dishes come out of the kitchen. Since I was clueless what to order, I read my fellow Yelper recommendations of the green beans and chicken wings which were tasty. Staff was kind and attentive. Our dishes came out quickly and I appreciated the free rice. The mango juice I ordered was refreshing. I really loved the bistro baryo which had a delicious sauce that came with the tender beef which reminded me of a Taiwanese beef dish my mom makes. Kids enjoyed the churros for dessert. A feast for the Gods. No forreal, everything was delicious. And I mean EVERYTHING. Do I have a favorite? Not necessarily. But I will say, mix up your textures. If there's a stew that's really good, add one of the crispier proteins for the most beautiful bite. Like the Bicol express? BOMB! Add a chicharron on top of it?? Life changing. The shrimps were so good and when we had leftover sauce, we poured that right on top of the palabok for a little extra UMPH. First of all in order to even get a reservation here you need to keep an eye on it online and they open reservations approximately 30 days beforehand and that's as far as it goes. So you need to be diligent in the first place to get a reservation and after arriving, I realized why because the place was completely packed even for an early scheduled dinner. It is located in a huge strip mall with a bunch of other restaurants and a lot of shared parking, but it gets full so you have to get lucky to find a spot and luckily parking is free While the website says they welcome walk-ins I can tell you now that on the weekend for dinner dinners good luck This was our first time here and we ordered quite a few items as you can tell from the photos. While the food is good, I will tell you that it is unique while still authentic for example, the crispy Palabok pancit is quite trendy. The lumpia Shanghai was good and you could actually taste the pork. The dessert of the flan combined cake was also good and not overly sweet. The chicken adobo was a bit on the salty side. And frankly, I thought there would be more chicken. The pork barbecue skewers were good, but not sweet and usually Filipino barbecue is supposed to be more on the sweeter side. The Halo halo was unique in the sense that it had some odd fixings on it such as marshmallows and candy that are not part of a special let alone traditional version of this. It also was missing quite a few ingredients that are what I would deem required. For example, no jackfruit and no sweet beans. I have to say, though this place definitely does justice to the Filipino culture and Filipino cuisine overall it is still a great strong restaurant that I would recommend you go to and check out. I have no other comparisons for the area, but this was definitely well worth the visit. The decor is absolutely incredible as well. Truly authentic and pays good homage to the culture and country. In the end, I decided that they can't help the fact that they are such a great place to eat. The food is diverse and authentic. The flavors are full and rich. The service her is impeccable, the team is always there to help you decide your menu selections. During this visit, I enjoyed the flavorful green beans. They were crisp and fresh. The meat dish went very well this the steamed rice, which is unlimited. The fried pork was prepared perfectly and the Chicken Adobo was well paired with the steamed rice since is was a great way to soak up the sauce. Finally made it to Kamayan ATL for my first visit and honestly I'm still thinking about it. From the second I opened the door, the aroma of fresh spices hit me. I knew immediately I was in for a flavor explosion! The space is stunning and beautiful but so welcoming. I was meeting friends who were already deep into their meals, so I decided to jump right in with some light bites. First I tried the Veggie Lumpia. Who knew a mix of taro, cabbage, carrots, tofu, and sweet potato could taste this good fried up? Total crunch perfection. Ube Crème Brûlée captured my attention immediately. Everyone knows I'm obsessed with ube, so this was a non-negotiable. I already love a good crème brûlée, but adding ube? Game changer. This is officially my favorite dessert combo ever. They insisted I have Halo Halo Espesyal before I leave. I was stuffed, but they insisted I try their most popular treat. It's a literal party in a glass! Shaved ice topped with flan, ube ice cream, milk, tapioca, coconut jelly, jackfruit, banana, and red mung beans. It's colorful, full of surprises, and so refreshing. We used to get Kamayan when it used to be pick up spot. We loved the presentation but felt like the food was always too cold for our liking. Also an absolute must and my #1 dish recently - the eggplant curry. If you're a protein bro and resistant to get get vege dishes - trust me you still want this one. This restaurant is in the same plaza as many other popular businesses, but the parking lot is huge so it shouldn't be too hard to find a spot. We made a reservation for 5 people at Kamayan for a Thursday night, and while not as busy as a weekend, it was still very busy. We had a nice booth spot in the smaller room in the back for our group, and we ordered several dishes. I personally lean to giving this place a 3.5/5, but I always prefer rounding up then rounding down. We definitely had some favorite dishes. The kaldereta was definitely the fan favorite of the group. It had such a good spice kick to it, and the tomato stew was so good. The second favorite for me was the Bicol express because I really enjoyed the curry of it. I personally didn't like the laing because I don't like too strong of a coconut flavor, and it was pretty obvious in it. My friends really enjoyed it though and really liked the taro leaves in it. I would the middle dishes were the pompano and lumpia. They weren't bad, but they weren't memorable. The misses for the group were definitely the desserts and the kare kareng. The kare kareng was bland and just didn't have much flavor to it compared to the other dishes. The desserts were disappointing for us. The ube caramel brulee was lacking the ube flavor. The ube flavoring in the churros and the puto personally gave a bit of a playdoh taste to us, so we didn't enjoy it too much or even really finish it. I've been interested in Filipino food for a long time, specifically sisig. However, I was never brave enough to visit a Filipino restaurant alone. Recently, on a visit to Atlanta, I dined with a friend and his Filipino girlfiend - they suggested we meet at Kamayan. Kamayan is in a bustling plaza on Buford Highway, but there was plenty of parking. There was a large crowd of people outside this venue, and plenty of folks standing around INSIDE too. These were good signs. My friends and I were seated immediately (they had a reservation - I suggest making one, given the crowd there). I happily listened to my friend's GF make recommendations for food (she fully supported me ordering sisig). We ordered a variety of appetizers and we each had our own entree. The apps were OK, nothing really stood out to me. But the sisig was unreal! It came in a cast iron skillet (which was super hot! I received a warning, lol) and it was unmixed. It had a huge spoon in it though which made it easy to stir up. I popped the sisig on some rice and dug in. It was absolutely amazing! I'd have eaten more of it, but I was full from the appetizers and sampling other folk's food. The flavors of sisig were beyond my imaginings. What's even better is the dish, sisig, improved over the course of several days. I reheated it 2 days later and it was even more amazing. I'm definitely going to get Filipino food again, sooner than later. Kamayan itself is a cute space, but seemingly on the small side. I heard they're expanding though. Service was great! I've eaten here a few times already, but I knew I'd be back for their Kamayan style feast, so held off on writing a review. Unsurprisingly, it was great! The set menu was chosen to give everyone a taste of the different regions/islands of the Philippines, and we were told a little bit about what Kamayan means. Traditionally, it's meant to be eaten by hand, but we were given gloves, utensiles, plates, and bowls to eat with. I'm glad that I was able to try more of their dishes, especially the eggplant curry, since I personally wouldn't have thought to order that (not a fan of eggplant, but you barely notice it here!). You can taste the coconut, and it made the curry very creamy. Many found it to be their favorite dish, though I still prefer their beef kare kare or Odessa's dinuguan more. Of course, the classic chicken adobo was also served in the feast, and it's still as delicious as ever. The chicken was juicy and tender, the marinade not overly salty either. I didn't take enough photos to put names to the dishes I had, but I do remember having their pork belly, which was a bit inconsistent. Some pieces were overly salty, and some were really dry, but overall, I liked them and would look for it on the menu another time to order it myself. They have many small plates, and while all of them are good, I just LOVE their baguio beans. I would gravitate and order them almost every time. The lumpias (any filling) are also good, but chicharrons are better for sharing and snacking with. The skewers are nice, and if you don't want to order an entree since it's a larger meal, skewers are a good choice. Now... I'm not sure if I would do the feast again ($80/person), but I will definitely be back. I recommend making a reservation though if you don't want to wait ~30 minutes before being seated. read more

Been wanting to try this spot for so long and finally got around to it! Made a reso via Resy for Sunday lunch. We were seated right away and I loved the bright and lively atmosphere, decor was on point, from the paintings on the walls down to the choices in plates and branded cups. We ordered the fish sauce wings, pork skewers, chicken adobo, and beef kare kare. Came with a big bowl of rice that was more than enough for my husband and I. I enjoyed everything, although my husband's fave was definitely the skewers, super flavorful although too salty for me. I would say my fave was the beef kare kare with tender beef and a delicious peanut curry. Def need to eat everything with plain rice! Wings were good - also crispy and flavorful but would try a different app next time. Chicken adobo was super tender but didn't taste like other adobos we've had. Maybe it was too elevated? For details, keep reading. Kamayan is popular and is known as *the* Filipino restaurant in metro Atlanta. The business started in 2018 as a series of pop-ups around town. After several years, Kamayan's much-awaited brick-and-mortar storefront opened at Buford Highway's Asian Square in December 2022: https://www.instagram.com/p/ClmBFv5uCm3/?img_index=1 I've lived in Atlanta since 2000 and can name only two other Filipino restaurants, off the top of my head: Fil-Am Star Cafe and Bakery (opened 2011, closed 2013) and Kuya's Food Express (still open, since 2011). Coincidentally, Fil-Am Star was also in Asian Square, where Mamak is today. Kuya's isn't a full-service restaurant, but instead a food court stall inside City Farmers Market in Duluth. BTW, for long-time Atlantans, who remembers Asiana Garden (Korean, maybe Korean-Chinese) from the early 2000s, located in the same corner of Asian Square where Kamayan is today? Kamayan chef-owners Mia Orino and Carlo Gan were James Beard Awards 2022 semifinalists for "Restaurant and Chef Awards - Emerging Chef." Kamayan was listed in the inaugural Michelin Guide for Atlanta in 2023 and maintained inclusion in 2024. Carlo checked us in and ran front of house during an incredibly busy Saturday evening service. All of the ingredients were fresh and the meats (beef, pork belly) were tender. Portion sizes were generous. Leftovers fed my wife and me for over two more meals. While my favorite dessert was the Ube Flan Cake, it was the Turon for my wife. You can think of them as sweet crispy spring rolls filled with plantains and strips of jackfruit. They were quite yummy. Ugh there's so many complaints I have unfortunately. This was by far one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. I was in Atlanta for a work/birthday trip and found this Filipino place and wanted to try it for my birthday. Worst mistake ever. We made a reservation since it was recommended and we ended up getting there a little earlier and asked if it was okay and the guy who finally came to the front to greet us was just like "uhhhh give me 10 mins" and got someone else. The 2nd person was looking around at the half empty place trying to figure out where to put us which I'm like what was the point of making a reservation when they weren't organized enough to handle it? Idk the whole situation seemed unprofessional We ordered the sinigang ribs $19 (which we were told might be out of stock so he had to go check and then went ahead and put in the order even though I asked to change it to someone else when he came back so I wasn't able to change it which is fine), laing $19, and chicken skewers $12. The sinigang ribs were a soup which I didn't realize at first but still ate it cause that's a waste of food if we didn't. They described it as a sweet and sour soup. Wrong. It was super sour AND super salty. Definitely no sweetness at all. I only ate the pork ribs and didn't bother with the rest :( I didn't try the laing cause I'm not a fan of coconut milk but my partner said this wasnt bad but it didn't look appetizing and was also super salty and heavily spiced. He only ate the meat in this one as well. The chicken skewers were the only good thing but also super salty. These skewers were the only reason why this review is getting 2 stars. We didn't even finish this cause we were out of rice at this point and it was just too salty to finish The first guy we initially saw was the one that took our order and then promptly forgot to give us rice and napkins 2 different times after he told us "let me get you some rice" and after we asked for napkins. Another girl came up to us (probably to see how everything was) but just had a brain fart or something and just stared at us for a solid minute before saying "rice" and walking away. She also didn't get us the rice by the way. This funny experience is also why this is getting 2 stars. There was an older guy there that may have been the owner was the one that finally brought out the rice. This place has good potential but honestly they need to hire new servers and taste their food to make sure it's not so salty that I feel dehydrated after one bite I don't recommend this place after the experience I had on my birthday (or anyway really) read more

The place was bustling with activity when we came in and it was beautifully decorated. Thankfully, there was seating at the "bar" area and we were seated right away. We got a front row seat to the staff prepping takeout orders and setting up the dishes right before delivering to the tables. The staff was all very friendly and the owner talked to us for a bit and ended up taking our order. However, the communication was not great between the staff and our food got a little mixed up in the chaos. We placed our food order all at once: hot ginger tea, pork lumpia, chicken adobo, a curry dish, and ube puto with halaya filling. First up, we received the order of the pork lumpia, which was fresh and delicious. This was accompanied by the hot ginger tea; the ginger really was strong in a good way. Then, we got our curry dish, which came with rice. The sauce was so flavorful and the curry was wonderful over rice. At this point, we were feeling quite full. But, we waited for our second dish. And we waited. We questioned some of the bustling staff and they didn't have any idea what we had ordered. At this point, we probably should've canceled the second entree, but we didn't know if they had already started making it yet. We asked for a box for the bit of curry and rice we had left, and if they had started the chicken adobo, they should just pack it to go for us. During the time that we waited for the second dish to be made and packaged, another server asked us if we ordered the ube flan, and we mentioned that we're just waiting on more food and an order of ube puto. She said she'd check on it, but gave us the ube flan cake anyway. It was pretty delicious, but I was disappointed the ube wasn't in the flan, but in the cake attached. I didn't originally order it though, so I wasn't too upset. We got the ube puto shortly and were wondering where the filling was, because we couldn't really taste it. Then our remaining entree came out and they boxed it for us, then threw another order of ubo puto in there. We mentioned that we already received the dessert, but then they said not to worry about it. Then they threw in an order of ube churros as well, and said not to worry about those either. We were very confused, but we weren't going to complain about additional free desserts. However, when it came to pay, nobody knew what we ordered in total. We repeated our items for check out, but since the churros in the final bag, we ended up getting charged for them even though we didn't order them originally. Overall, the food was all very delicious. It felt very homey and like I was eating at a family's house. But the whole miscommunication was a little frustrating, hence the 4/5. read more

The service was great, and the staff are very kind. The vibe is nice and classy but still inviting, although bigger parties may have abit of a squeeze. The food is good, but not quite worth the price. They have lots of options, including vegan options. You can scan a QR code to see rhe menu or ask for physical menus if you need them. Just try this gem once and the food will keep you coming back! Think authentic, but elevated filipino food at its finest. The bisteksilog brunch dish is especially delicious. The beef is super tender with a rich sauce that is one of the best versions of bistek I've ever had. I could eat the baguio beans all day! They are cooked to a perfect bite and the touch of kalamansi and a hint of spice elevate the flavor while a crispy topping helps hit all the right notes. BBQ chicken skewers are another go-to here. We had reservations for two at noon last Sunday. We each ordered from the Sunday only I had Bangsilog (fried milkfish) and my wife chose Tocilog (pork) and we shared Ube Flan Cake for dessert. The two main dishes were beautiful and tasty. We had a variety of foods included in our plates, which were all tasty. Service was incredible. Prices were reasonable. Menu offerings were numerous. Great service all around! Our server was super friendly and checked up on us often. It was my first time here, and I enjoyed very much of the entire experience. I recommend eating family style because you're going to want to try everything here. We ordered the Baguio Beans, Ginataang Talong, and Sizzling Sisig. ATL is bringing some FILIPINO LOVE!! Hats off to an amazing meal at Kamayan last week, possibly the best Filipino cuisine I've eaten in the past several years. All the savory food here is hands down delicious....seriously SO GOOD! I wish there was Filipino food like this in NYC. (Happy for any recommendations if anyone has them!) Came with a party of 5 with reservations for a Friday night at 7pm, the restaurant was packed. We arrived around the end of first service and when second service started and basically all the tables were accounted for. They have around 50-60 seats in the open area and another 30ish in the back party hut. The decor involves tropical colors and island themed furniture, lighting fixtures, wall art, table cloth and pillows (on the wall side banquet seating). I love the woven straw lamps hanging from the ceiling, they're intricate and beautiful. The "party hut" in the back is a semi-private room for larger parties or small events, the outside is covered in bamboo poles with a straw "roof", reminiscent of traditional island abodes. Using rattan chairs for some of the seating adds another laid-back island element to the ambiance. You can tell a lot of care went into the details. The food: Wow wow wow!!! Where do I start... Wok-fried green beans $8: you HAVE TO ORDER THESE. One of the tastiest renditions of green beans I've ever eaten in my life. Slightly spicy and slightly zesty from the lime, that savory umami is addictive. Fried chicken wings $10: 5pc seasoned with Rufina fish sauce. Thumbs up to this lightly crunchy exterior, tender interior wonderfully seasoned appetizer. They did chicken wings proud. BBQ chicken and pork skewers $11 each: Can I get a WHOOT for the yummy marinade used on each, terrific examples of meat on a stick. Sizzling sisig $20: a must-eat here, a traditional Filipino dish of pork minced parts served on a sizzling plate with a raw egg on top to mix in. Tied with the green beans as my favorite dish of the night. Lechon Kawali $18: crispy deep-fried cubes of pork belly served with Mang Tomas sauce--kinda like a tangy vinegarette. Just the right amount of fry to crisp up the skin and keep the insides moist. Beef Kare-Kare $19: delicious curry-like stew with eggplant, beef, green beans. Served in a clay pot and was a perfect cold weather dish to serve over rice. Terrific that the stew portion wasn't over-salted. Would highly recommend, and my second favorite of the meal. Chicken Adobo $16 x2: tender stewed chicken. Their version of this was one of the best I've tried, (though admittedly I haven't eaten that much Filipino food). A confluence of flavors though felt like a homey embrace. Sinigang Pork Ribs $18 x2: this is a soup and we kinda ordered it by mistake thinking it was the Crispy Pata, once we cleared this up all was good. This prob wouldn't have been our first choice since it was proper SE Asian sour given it was a tamarind soup, though I could appreciate the authentic flavor. The pork ribs that came in it were large and tender. Ube churros $5: after the meal above we basically didn't have room for dessert though I was craving something sweet so ordered these based on a server recommendation. Flavor was good though dough was firmer than I expected--thought churros would be light and crisp on outside, soft on inside. This iteration had vanilla custard piped into the center and then rolled in sugar and served with a ube coconut dip on the side, I think it would've been better/lighter without the custard. Unlimited rice: they keep it coming, and even let us take extra rice to go. One of my friends couldn't stop eating this, and remarked it was the tastiest rice she'd eaten in a while. Service: waitstaff was friendly and helpful, instructing us on how to scan QR code and providing descriptions if we weren't clear. Lightning fast food prep we started getting food within 5 min of ordering. Staff checked in our table periodically.
