It's often unclear what will make me feel at home in my body. I was raised and socialized without anyone showing me how to sculpt and maintain my face in ways I'd like. When I began experimenting with different methods of self care and expression, a close friend who works in the same neighborhood as POE recommended them. When I nervously walked in for my first appointment, I felt immediately welcome. A large visible global inclusive pride flag hangs from the ceiling in the middle of the salon. The staff didn't flinch at my never-plucked brows or my not-yet-perfected skincare routines. They assured me they wouldn't overdo it and make me look like the girls in my high school classes with arches that made them appear perpetually surprised. They wouldn't try to make me look like someone else. They'd just shape my brows to look clean, neat, and compliment my face. Once it was done, I immediately felt better about my appearance. Even before the pinkness wore off on my freshly waxed skin, I was so happy. I immediately set up another appointment. Now I go every 4-6 weeks and get eyelash tinting too. I've only been in to see Kelly twice now, but both times I've been completely shook by how good my brows look walking out of this place. I always thought my brows were fine and I did a pretty good job with them, but there were sparse patches that I've always had to fill in. I was curious about brow lamination, went in just to try it, and walked out with what felt like completely new brows. Laminated and tinted, my brows looks SO much fuller and sleeker. The hairs lengthened and straightened, my brows felt lifted and the sparse patches disappeared. The tinting added a lovely depth of color that basically eliminated the need for filling them in. The second time I came was just for tinting and grooming, and once again I wondered to myself if it would make much difference, and Kelly once again transformed my brows. I had a good experience with the artist at this location during my first visit, but unfortunately, my recent experience with their customer service was terrible. I had to attend an urgent meeting and tried calling the location hours in advance to inform them, but no one picked up. I followed their voicemail instructions and texted the number, but received a message hours later that my card had been charged $155. I tried calling during the appointment time they claimed was not filled, but no one was available to speak with me. I understand that there might be a fee, but being charged the entire amount is ridiculous, especially since I tried multiple times to contact them throughout the day. Finally, someone from their shop texted me back, but had no remorse and a bad attitude. It's unfortunate that things didn't work out, as I'm in the beauty industry on the corporate side and love getting beauty treatments done. I'm a regular when it comes to my nails, toes, and eyelashes, and thought I'd add my brows to the list, but I won't be going back to this location. Kelly did my brows after I had bounced around to a few places with long breaks in between. I was getting a little worried I wouldn't find a place in the east bay to care for my little bb caterpillars (aspiring large caterpillars). I made an appointment with Kelly after reading reviews though I believe this place is solid and I'm sure anyone here is killer! Kelly was nice, professional, funny, and took her time with me. She asked me lots of questions about my brow history, my dream brows, how often I wax-tweeze, how I fill them in with makeup. Kelly was easy to talk to and showed me what my brows looked like as she was shaping them to check-in on how much she was taking off and what she was proposing to take off or keep. I appreciate the time and care. As most of us are looking to undo the mistakes of our past (over tweezing, the regret!!!) Kelly knew to ask about 2-3 tiny hairs as she knew I'm looking to grow out my brows as much as I can! Praying for caterpillars by next summer. I'll be back. I will say that the price point is not in everyone's budget and so I think this place is a great splurge if you are taking long breaks (8-12wks) between visits. I was referred to Amanda at POE by my hairstylist in SF when I asked for a recommendation about where to get a pre-wedding facial. I submitted an appointment request knowing that there were slim odds Amanda would be able to accommodate me and my mom on short notice (10 days before my wedding!), but luckily Amanda had just had a big cancellation and was able to fit us both in on a Friday afternoon/evening. What followed was the best facial I've had in recent memory. Not only is Amanda a lovely person, but she is clearly very knowledgeable about skincare, the science behind it, and best practices for taking care of one's face. She gave both me and my mom "glowing" facials, and while she customized the treatment for each of us, we both loved the result. Not only did we enjoy our facials, but when I had a few blemishes pop up in the days following, Amanda was able to fit me in on very short notice for a short treatment with Ayda to ensure that I have clear skin for my wedding day. Ayda was also great and fun to chat with, and I am so grateful that I was able to head back over so easily. While it's not ideal for me to travel from SF to Berkeley for a facial, Amanda and POE are worth it! My mom and I will definitely both be back, and I'd recommend a facial here to anyone :) read more

I found this place on Yelp and checked their Instagram. I'm really picky with brows and like my brows looking full but at the same time groomed. Quite expensive compared to other places but wanted to give a try. The ladies here are nice and for that I won't name any names but say "lady". There's a few things that I noticed that annoyed me business wise and hope they'll learn from that. 1st time I got my brows laminated and tinted the lady asked me if I use any retinol and I said no. I got my eyebrows waxed with the lamination and it ripped out some of my skin. My eyebrow area was super red and looked kinda ripped. The lady saw my face after and based on her expression I can tell she too noticed it but she didn't say anything or give me a refund at least so I was making myself think it's prob okay and she didn't rip my skin maybe it's red from the chemicals. But it got redder throughout the day and next day it started to turn brownish/crusted over since the ripped skin is healing. My brows looked good but my skin was brownish until it healed after a few days which sucked. My fault I didn't say anything to them because I should've instead of be shy. I never brought it up to them that they ripped my skin by the way but the lady who did my brows I'm sure noticed she did rip them based on how she looked at me but let me go about my day. I booked another brow and lash appointment after 3 months and then I was asked by the lady if she can try something new to my lashes instead of the silicon thing and I said sure. No discount was offered by the way even tho she was testing or trying something new on me. If you're trying something new on a client plz always offer a discount. When we were done she looked at my face before giving me a mirror and she looked scared. And then I looked and my lashes were not even a C shape but bent to my eyelids and looked ridiculous. Again, she let me go about my day. My brows looked good tho but I was so annoyed with my lashes and she should've done something about it. I don't know if they have the reversible chemical thing to make my lashes go back to normal or what but if they don't they should have that. I tried to wash my lashes immediately when I got home but it didn't work lol so I was stuck with them for 2-3 months. Keep in mind I really like the ladies here but the way they go about things put me off but I continued to go to this place anyway. I'm just too nice and I went to another lady at the same store because it was last minute booking. I explained my preference of my brows, showed previous pics & got my brows done perfectly and was so happy with them. 2-3 months later I came back to the same lady at the store and explained again what I want but didn't show pics and then she left me with skinny eyebrows!! Haha I was like ok no more for me here. I'm not sure if they don't know me because of the mask and have a hard time identifying people or what because of their mask rule but they should have notes on their clients somewhere idk. Not sure if I'm judged because I look bunny with yoga pants and oversized t shirts when I come here or what. I had to laugh after getting skinny eyebrows but I was like this is a sign I gave too many chances and my time to just not go anymore. These ladies are super nice and they do a good job. My eyebrows looked good besides the skinny looking brows from the last time I got and their lash lifts are okay. It's expensive as well if u can afford it and u should give it a try despite my experiences but for me I'm not gonna waste a lot of money if I feel stressed coming so I had to say goodbye. read more
