This is a super cute spot to grab something healthy and hang out. It is a little loud to do work but if you have noise cancelling headphones it's not a problem and there's great seating. Pretty spacious in here. Does get cold inside :/The sweet potato bowl was great-11$. I liked the garlic tahini sauce they put on top. Not the biggest portion but good for if you want a light meal. Definitely want to try their smoothies and other menu items another time. Employees are friendly. I feel like it's reasonably priced here too.

Visiting my sister in Portland and she's been wanting to come back here for awhile. It's one of her favorite cafes. I loved the lighting and decor as you walk in. There's some small chairs and tables out front, the baristas are nice, overall area is clean. Handful of tables inside and out were enjoying their food and drinks. Definitely recommend coming to Poa Cafe, even my BIL said 'this is the best breakfast burrito I've ever had!' I personally loved the breakfast burrito. I've never had one with sweet potato in it. It was sweet and savory!

Cute cafe with spacious seating both inside and outside. I got a yogurt bowl and a oatmeal latte which are both great. The coffee was actually really good and I was surprised since it seemed more like a brunch/food spot than a coffee spot. Workers are friendly. I liked the aesthetics inside, and the presentation of their food was great. I noticed that nearly all the dogs that were passing by outside on walks wanted to stop inside here which was funny to see. They have a very extensive menu of coffee, tea, smoothies, bowls, burritos, etc. Can't wait to try more!

Favorite ~ Sweet Potato Bowl, dressing is tasty. Their smoothies are a bit pricey but natural ingredients. Service is cordial with no frills. Backyard patio spacious and a popular spot for a morning wakeup with the pup.

Normally I love this place but the takeout order I just received was laughably bad. The portion was extremely small- measured about 1/2c of rice in total, 4 pieces of kale and about 7 pieces of sweet potato. I wouldn't typically count pieces of kale, but the shockingly small amount of food was unusual. Little to no sauce and poorly packaged as well. I had to do a double take to make sure I ordered from the right place

Spacious cafe with a nice back patio that accommodated a group of six. Smoothie seems a bit pricey but okay for a one time visit. Friendly staff. Nothing out of the ordinary and left without a major impression positive or negative about the place.

This is my go-to place for a quick breakfast. Their vegan burrito is amazing, especially with the pink sauce--you HAVE to try the pink sauce! The service is good, although they are usually busy because of how popular they are. The only thing I'm not a fan of is their coffee, but that's okay because their food is incredible. I've also tried their waffles, which are perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. The interior is cute with plenty of seating, and they also have an outdoor patio that's great for sunny days. Whether you sit inside or outside, it's a great spot!

Updating my review, as the past year coming to POA has been consistently better. Maybe I had a lack of compassion for the hard, transitional times, the food was lacking - but now, when I go by, it's quick & consistently good. I've given up on this being a family oriented neighborhood & the owner explained to me how she had to shift in order to keep her business moving, I understand... The Opal Springs is my favorite smoothie in town & the bowls are healthy & tasty. 4 start's because no food on the menu is a definite go to- It's good to see POA thriving & making it through the insanity of this massive change in our neighborhood. In love & solidarity- Jess

I love love love this place. It is definitely in my top 3 cafes to study! They have an indoor and outdoor seating with my tables and chairs to accommodate everyone. I chose the outdoor seating area and the vibes were just right. There was background music playing and the weather was so nice. I got the sweet potato bowl and a matcha latte. The portion of the bowl was perfect and it tasted so delicious. I wanted to try their lavender matcha but I think they just gave me regular matcha. However, it was alright because it was still yummy and the workers are super nice!

Late afternoon visit, so the hipster crowd had clearly skateboarded back to their respective creative labs. I had the place to myself. Prime auditing conditions. First impression? This place is built for volume. You can tell. Efficient layout. Assembly-line potential. If bowls were a factory sport, this would be a playoff team. Ordered the Home Grown. Took a quick bathroom break. Came back and -- boom -- bowl was already on the counter. FAST. And it looked elite. Then I saw it. A generous dollop of peanut butter at the top, sprinkled with hemp seeds. I almost got emotional. It felt like flying over your hometown after months away. Familiar. Safe. Right. First bite? Delicious. Smooth. Creamy. Almost like frozen yogurt or soft serve. Easy eating. Crowd-pleasing texture. And then... I looked up. Another bowl was being made. The açaí base was coming out of a soft-serve machine. As a purist, this one hurt. I want hand-scooped. Blender-blade symphony. Crafted, not dispensed. I had a small internal crisis. But here's the problem: I really enjoyed it. So now I'm torn between my values and my taste buds. Would I go back? Yes. Would I wrestle internally again? Also yes. Ya know, it's weird that this has been in my drafts for forever. But I like this place. I like that…read morethey were down with the açaí bowl situation before it was cool (or at least, before it became de rigeur and/or spread to the damp and drippy PNW). I started chowing down on smoothie bowls in sunny southern California and the majorest of major metros like Manhattan, and it seems like it took forever for the "trend" to spread to our rainy neck of the woods. One could certainly get wheatgrass shots every which where, but smoothie bowls, not so much. ANYWAY, Carioca Bowls was leading the vanguard of delish and genuine açaí bowls in PDX long before it was an expected food variety in all hippie-ish towns in the US. Their bowls meet my exacting ingredient standards: Now that smoothie bowls have gone mainstream, many are just lightly disguised dessert with "health food" marketing: Hidden sweeteners and grody additives pushed on the unsuspecting hoi polloi ruin it for people who don't do their homework. But not Carioca Bowls: You can ACTUALLY get an unsweetened açaí bowl if that's your jam (it's mine: If I wanted dessert, I'd get a cupcake), and they don't drown the top in honey (honey has its place, and that place is far away from me), and drink in the extremely second-wave granola vibes while you're at it. Third-wave hippie food, like third-wave coffee shops, have suffered a loss of soul: Minimalist design, LED lighting, and cookie-cutter staff with vaseline smiles beckoning "welcome in!" with vacant looks in their eyes have sapped a lot of the joy from the spaces serving hippie food and matcha tea. Carioca Bowls remains a comfortingly messy, quirky callback to sincerity: Murals, houseplants, low lighting, a big messy garden-y space outdoors for sitting and chowing, organic unfussy aesthetics that make the whole scene just feel welcoming and comfy. You can eat your bowl here and not feel like you're a nuisance to the staff, or like there's a glaring spotlight on you (unlike SOME smoothie/juice/bowl places I could mention). Nary a whiff of extruded white plastic ANYWHERE in this place. It makes me feel at home, the way a wheatgrass-sniffin', long-hair-havin', big-hug-givin' hippie should feel. When I walk through the door, I feel RELAXED, ya know what I mean? Anyway, give it a try - this isn't my 'hood but I will still occasionally make a pilgrimage just to get a bowl and drink in the vibes. So if I were writing a Michelin guide (buy those tires!) I suppose I'd give this at least a star, as it's worth a special trip (IF you're into what I've described here - it's highly specific, but it's MY vibe). Anyway, long live Carioca Bowls!

Carioca Bowls -- Portland, OR…read more Hard for me not to be biased here. Richard and his crew are massive supporters of the Portland Pilots Men's Basketball program, and loyalty matters. That said--support alone doesn't earn berries. After 8 months in Portland, I've unintentionally become an Açaí connoisseur. I've tasted bowls that are icy, overly sweet, under-blended, and frankly... fraudulent. Carioca Bowls is none of that. Let's be clear: this is the standard. My go-to order is the Rose City Bowl (add peanut butter)--a move I highly recommend to anyone serious about their craft. The balance is elite. The texture is smooth but substantial. Every ingredient earns its place. Is this the best Açaí bowl in the world? Honestly... it might be. But the mission is bigger than Portland. I'm on a global quest to find the best Açaí bowl on the planet--and for now, Carioca Bowls is the bar everyone else is chasing. Rating 4.9 / 5 Açaí Berries (Perfect scores are reserved.
