She had nothing but good things to say about her sweet potato bowl and tropical smoothie. I've tried their tropical and berry tropical smoothies and both were so yummy. The seating could be a hit-or-miss. It really depends on the time. It might be harder for a party of 2+ to find a table right away. Parking could also be a challenge. It's a busy neighborhood and there isn't a private lot or anything. The pricing of the food and a drink to pair could easily cost you $20+/person (without tip)! To me, it's worth it for the price. This is a super cute spot to grab something healthy and hang out. It is a little loud to do work but if you have noise cancelling headphones it's not a problem and there's great seating. Visiting my sister in Portland and she's been wanting to come back here for awhile. It's one of her favorite cafes. I loved the lighting and decor as you walk in. There's some small chairs and tables out front, the baristas are nice, overall area is clean. Handful of tables inside and out were enjoying their food and drinks. My kid and her beau frequent this brunch-y place often, so on my latest trip to visit them, they brought me here one weekend morning for a later breakfast. I can see why they love this place: lots of healthy options by way of bowls and various protein shakes. I liked how they had a lot of seating options too, outside and inside (and a huge patio out in the back, too! Unfortunately, this is only accessible by way of a staircase. FYI for folks in wheelchairs, etc.). Still, lots of tables inside, so one would be hard-pressed not to find available seating. Call me old-fashioned (hey, I've been called worse lol!) but all I wanted was 1-2 eggs and maybe some bacon. Couldn't get that here. I ordered a breakfast "Sammy" which, for $7.50, came with a drip coffee. The Sammy was essentially a grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread. Delicious, yes, but probably would've been better if I had added on some bacon in there (my fault). As it was, I ate half and left the remainder, and I gave my coffee to my kid. So word to the wise: if you just want an ordinary, non-fancy, non-gourmet, plain egg or two, this may not be the best place for you. (I should note, my kid and her boyfriend each ordered bowls - I forget what kinds, - and they are big and fresh and healthy, and they love these! They're just way too much for me and, as I mentioned, when it comes to breakfast, I'm an old-fashioned gal). Anyhow, we sat on a table in the rear patio area, as it was a hot and sunny day. Unbelievable experience at POA today on the Williams street gentrification project. I love this place-the lady run operation along with the seering and thickly coated smell of bacon grease on everything within 20ft of the store-proof that a functioning ventilation system overrated! Everyone loves the smell of bacon, especially when it sticks to you the rest of the day after stopping in! When I walked into the lobby, the manager was interviewing someone at the back corner table and no customers were waiting, it was around 12:10 and I thought it was a curious choice as a manager to invite and interview in during the lunch rush. But apparently the staff could handle it! I was asked to wait, while the barista turned to pour a smoothie. I noticed online orders were paused, and that's when I started to look at labor. 3 cook/baristas on the line and no one to handle the customer. A manager and a new hire in the corner and still, no help for the customer who is trying to pay. At this point, 5 minutes have elapsed and the lobby is now full of customers. I have 10 minutes left of break and the lady bringing in the garbage walks in. 5 minutes after she got set putting equipment away, she was instructed to come and help me. After telling me it was was her 2nd day (she was untrained on the register) and the manager was now training the new hire, and there was 5 people in line already, I saw the whole shift going down in flames. I decided that it was time to walk out when the server didn't know where the pint glasses are for the beer I ordered. I knew they were in serious trouble and I just wanted out. I had 5 minutes left on my lunch break, I used the restroom and walked out. As I left, the server offered me the beer (most likely a short pour) and I told them I had not paid, she said she could ring me up! I declined, saying that I had to go to work! I went back to try other food 2 more times to confirm my taste buds' happiness. I appreciate the gluten free (gf) bread option, the ease of food modifications, & the labeling of vegan/dairy free/vegetarian/paleo on the menu. The ingredients are fresh, & the coffee is delicious! The baristas are very friendly, & the cafe has a lovely outdoor patio & aesthetically-pleasing decor. Keep an eye on their IG- they post specials! Like I've said, I've been 3 times & will definitely be back again, but I was slightly disappointed in my food the 2nd & 3rd times I went. My egg was overcooked on my brunch bowl, but I chalked it up to the Saturday brunch takeaway rush. Healthy and filling options for breakfast! They are maintaining social distance guidelines and have sitting on their outside patio and tables at the front. Their smoothies looked delicious but this weekend we were feeling like indulging with a breakfast burrito and egg sandwich. We ended up getting a chai latte to wash it down with and from ordering (2 groups before us) to when we got our food it took about 15 mins. Before each group they spray the card machine and menus. They also have a glass between the staff when you're ordering. Now let's get to the food. The egg sandwich with additional bacon ($3) was pretty tasty. I love my some sourdough bread so I thought it was nice and toasty. Could I make this at home? Probably so it's likely something I'll pass on next time. To balance out the cheese and bacon they pair it with a nice side salad. The winner for me was DEFINITELY the breakfast burrito! We opted for no additional sides and this thing was still massive. The tortilla held up well with all the ingredients and the sweet potato and garlic sauce were my fave parts of the burrito! The feta, spinach, beans and eggs were cooked well but the sauce was so darn tasty I probs could have had a side of it too. I would definitely get this and you could even share it between two people. I donate plasma and am anemic- i use these meals as a way to boost my protein & iron levels before going in to donate :) I always get the Sweet Potato bowl- sometimes the rice is a bit dry, sometimes the portions are a little wonky, and the poached egg upon delivery is never poached (turn hard boiled) but the kale is always great & the sauce is deeeeelicious, I think at this point i'm ordering mainly for the original tahini dressing they put in everything. YUMM. If you purchase the big side of sauce it's good for maybe 2-3 generous servings. I get the grasshopper smoothie, which is delicious and an easy drink but is definitely more of a juice consistency than than that of a smoothie. Both items deliver well but the food container gets concerningly soft because of the material- reminiscent of the way chipotle bowls go soggy. I am literally obsessed with finding the perfect healthy boost+ smoothie joint for my pre-plasma rituals and have tried everywhere: Best Friend, Moberi, Kure, Harlow, Greenleaf, the celery, flying cat, nekter, apothecary, rush bowls and more and can definitively say that Poa is the best cheap quick option with my favorite food choices and Harlow is a good place for smoothies. Visiting in Portland and strolled across this cafe. Despite other poor reviews, my experience was so good that my friend and I came here two days in a row! Both times we ordered within 5 minutes and got our drinks and food within 10 minutes. At the time there were all girls working and they were so sweet and helpful in picking out food, smoothie, and coffee items. The burrito was very healthy and good. My favorite was the sweet potato bowl I could eat that every morning it was so tasty! We also ordered some smoothies, I got the Rise N Shine which if you love peanut butter it is delicious! On the second day I got the Golden milk latte which had turmeric in it, it wasn't bad it tasted very light. My friend got a vanilla oat milk latte and it was good. I've been back several times since my last review and honestly, POA deserves higher reviews than it has. The food is amazing and so are the smoothies and drinks. I come here at least once a week to eat and just do homework (perfect space for doing work). I always get either the sweet potato bowl or sweet potato breakfast burrito and it's so amazing I could no joke eat it everyday!! The staff is always SO kind and the food and drinks always come out so fast. Super interesting take and I love when I get multiple slices of toast so I was happy about that. They serve the avocado on sourdough with salt, red pepper flakes, and seeds. They have add on options like egg or bacon but I just got mine as is. They also serve a salad on the side with vinaigrette dressing. I would suggest that you always choose to have the dressing on the side because it definitely gets on the toast and changes the taste.
