Unfortunately because of proximity I've been back here more than I want to, but I'll update my review to add a star because my other experiences have been better. I still feel like the staff is way too pretentious and not very warm. Love the outside patio though, and cookies I had were good. Peppermint mocha was also good. I love their products but just want to be greeted with warmth!

In a Portland sea of amazing coffee shops, this one still exudes superiority to me... at least on the West side of town. It's a modern space with mirrors, natural wood touches and just the right size to be cozy without feeling cramped. Staff is usually nice but too busy to be bubbly... maybe they should drink more of their own product? the bathrooms do not require a code or key, which is a huge perk (pun intended) for this part of town. Parking is challenging, but just a small hurdle in having access to a marvelous cup of coffee. I love that they offer three different choices anytime you order a drink that includes espresso. I stick with the 8 oz Americano and ask for the baristas choice based on whatever they feel is pulling best (somehow it seems to personify the experience of the shop's endearing name). Check it out! A great stop for when you are running errands and need a delightful respite from the hustle of NW... not to mention a bold, invigorating cup of amazing coffee.

I thank Barista for teaching me, many years ago, how much flavor coffee can have when done right. It was truly a life-changing experience. (There's no going back now!) And I've been their biggest fan ever since then. I was reminded of all that this morning as I enjoyed a quiet Americano while gazing out the window onto 23rd avenue, early enough for the parking to be free and easy. Every Barista location is terrific but I especially enjoy the NW 23rd Ave location. It's spacious and classy. And the window bar is a perfect spot to enjoy a perfect cup of coffee. Service is always great, and Masterful. Kudos to all the folks, especially the founder, for preserving one of the simple joys of life.

Walked past this cafe while we were out and decided to stop in for a quick drink! Staff is so friendly and made conversation with every customer. I got a black iced coffee and it was so smooth & very affordable! If I'm ever back, I'll be sure to try more!

I ordered an Iced vanilla coffee which was average. I'm more of a specialty flavored drink girl (which they didn't really have any), but I think if you are more into the coffee beans you'll like it. Good vibes tho places to work and talk.

Nice, quaint coffee shop! My vanilla latte was warm and frothy on a chilly fall day, and I love the option of ceramic mugs fordining in..feels cozy! The staff were super cool, and they even helped me store my suitcase away so that I could dine more comfortably. This location is in such a cute neighborhood and totally gave me that Portland autumn fall foliage vibe that I was looking for. Perfect coffee shop aura!

Beautiful little place with magnificent booths and a number of bar seats available. Coffee was tasty (very confused by some reviews that noted coffee was not great.) Friendly and efficient Vice.

Quick Summary: - Coffee is sour - Classy interior, really nice to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee - Plenty of pastries to choose from The exciting thing about this cafe were that the interior was fancy and just made me feel comfortable to be in. The line stretched with a display case to see the different pastries. The one shown in the picture, I don't recall the name anymore, but what I do remember was that the pastry was themed after a sea snail from the large swirl. Unfortunately, the coffee was sour for my taste, so if I were to visit again I'll order it with more milk or opt for a cafe au lait.

My wife and I had a very nice cup of coffee and snack-here our eye exam. The coffee of the day was so full of flavor, and I wish I would have inquired what it was. Also had a huge croissant which was super fresh and filling. The Barista is a cute alfresco coffee house in a very funky part of Portland. Worth a visit. Great place to people watch!

Okay, my sister and I really wanted to hate the coffee because the barista was insanely rude but the coffee was fire. It had the perfect brown color (amazing milk to espresso ratio) and was sweetened just right. I have to give credit where it's due because I'm super picky about my coffee, and nowhere in Portland has wowed me like this place did. So yeah, the service was meh, but the drink? Chef's kiss

Came here to get some work done and rest from the heat but there's no wifi. Very nice decor and that's great they have pastries to go with coffee. Didn't stay long since it's not really ideal for work

Baristas are not friendly, I've had bad service 3 times now, and the selection isn't great, dry pastries and not many options for coffee.

Everything on the menu looked amazing and I saw many menu items come out prepared and I knew I HAD to come back. Today, we got the fried chicken - hot honey - on cornbread. Since 1978, this beloved NW 23rd treasure has been spoiling Portlanders with the kind of desserts that make you close your eyes on the first bite. My sweetheart surprised me with a warm Sunday evening date on their charming outdoor patio -- the kind of spontaneous, romantic gesture that becomes a treasured memory. Our server was warm, unhurried, and genuinely helpful in helping us choose between an impossible array of beautiful options. We settled on the Chocolate Raspberry Torte -- a rich chocolate crust filled with silky chocolate mousse, crowned with glistening fresh raspberries and a ribbon of raspberry sauce -- and the Chocolate Truffle Cake, a towering masterpiece of dark layers, ganache, and a cloud of whipped cream. Decadent and delightful don't begin to cover it. What makes Papa Haydn extraordinary is that behind every dessert is a real story -- a Berlin baker's family recipes, a sculptor sister who turned pastry into art, a dream that has now spanned generations and 700 tons of chocolate. That history lives in every bite. If you haven't been, go. If you have, go again. Portland is lucky to have them.
