Stopped in to hear the free jazz concert that is given on some weekends. The musicians were fabulous. The place gets pretty packed because who doesn't want a good pastry and coffee while listening to fantastic jazz. We were able to try the vanilla cream, puff and the cheesecake. I wish we didn't split the vanilla cream puff it was that good just have for yourself. The bakery is decorated really pretty and bright colors makes you feel like if you're in a Candyland. I called while I was on my way to a potluck and needed a last-minute vegan dessert option, and they were incredibly helpful and responsive. Whose place is open late on the weekends and makes great pastries but they serve all around town and coffee, shops and the like. They serve frozen yogurt from their other establishment. A nice and inviting pastry shop located off Se Hawthorne area. They have a variety of items to choose from. With this visit, I chose half a dozen of macarons and mixed berry cheesecake. I'll start by saying that I've had plenty of baked goods from Farina prior to visiting in person. They make a great add on for delivery. I've also had items from them at local coffee houses. They're a solid local bakery. We happened to be nearby on my wife's birthday and decided to walk over. I don't know what I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised. The store itself is really cute. It looks like walking into a cool, modern tea house. The kind where they serve little cakes, of which Farina has plenty. We had fun hanging out there and enjoying a few new (to us) items. Everything I've had from them has been awesome and this trip was no exception. Both my child and I had diarrhea after sharing a slice of chocolate cake at Farina. My husband didn't eat any of the cake and felt completely fine. I suspect there may have been an issue with the ingredients or how the cake was handled. Unfortunately, it made us sick, so I can't recommend it. read more

Gosh I'm so sad that I slept on this place for so long before I finally ordered a birthday cake for my husband from this spot! And wowow did it DELIVER. The taste was great, the cake was moist, and the whole thing was so delicious -- 10/10 would absolutely recommend for your cake needs! Outside of the cake, I knew I needed to go back and try more of the pastries so back I went~ I grabbed the pesto and sundried tomato savory poptart, the everything bagel galette, the chocolate raspberry cupcake, and the mixed berry cheesecake. Also got my friends the marionberry poptart, cream puff, sweet potato and chickpea savory tart, and the coffee pecan scone. First off the savories were so delicious and the perfect little start to the morning when you're not feeling sugar. I loved the galette but the pesto poptart definitely held its own as well! Now to the sweets dear god, that cupcake was so moist I don't even know what to say -- and mind you I hate the word moist but I have to give credit where it's due. The cupcake was absolutely delicious and the cheesecake was a stunner too. My friends did weigh in on the goods I got them and stated they were all great. Next time, I'll remember to grab a couple macarons to try out as well~ All in all, prices are incredibly fair for what you get; service is super kind and they were really understanding about splitting my orders into different boxes. The interior is cozy and cute and there is some space to sit if you'd like to enjoy your treats before dashing away. Street parking in this particular area is usually not too bad. Last Friday I stopped in to visit Farina. Upon entering I realized I had tried their macarons previously at Elephant's Delicatessen. Their shop feels like it's mostly a working bakery and I didn't see any interior seating area (although it looks like they own the adjacent building also so maybe there is seating and I didn't see it because I was so distracted by the pastries). Cupcakes are my nemesis so I had to get some. I don't love their buttercream (seemed butter heavy and flavor light) and their cake was very light and spongy but lacking depth of flavor for me. Overall they weren't my favorite cupcakes (but @hungryhero has my heart there). That being said, their orange cranberry cupcake was a stand out! The orange flavored buttercream was light and delightfully orange flavored. The inside of the cupcake and delicious, tart cranberry that offset the orange cream fantastically. It was original for a cupcake and definitely a standout. Their macarons were quite good. They were a nice size and achieved the marshmallowy goodness that is expected with authentic flavors coming through. Especially good were the pistachio and apple cider. The raspberry was good, as was the chocolate but did not beat out our favorites at @laprovence. The woman who took our order was not unfriendly but did not particularly engage with us. Overall I would stop in for their original macaron flavors in the future. read more

This is a great little bakery. There is a really solid selection of baked goods and some delicious savory pastries.

The food is almost almost always good for this bakery. I am a senior citizen. I have a big note on my front door, asking people to knock after delivering. I didn't get that so I figured that I didn't get my order and two hours later when I went out to get my mail there was a bag at the bottom of my stairs that I can't get to so I didn't have a good experience this time. I'll include a picture if I can get it to upload just can't handle those stairs anymore. read more

I ordered a cake for my father's birthday. It was ready on time, looked beautiful, and was well packaged. Even after a 2 hour drive to Newport, a day in the fridge, and a 2 hour drive to Seaside, followed by two more days in the fridge (plans kept changing), the cake was still great, and the packaging held up. Also picked up a marionberry pop tart as an impulse buy; glad I did. It was amazing. Service was friendly and the website was easy to navigate for online ordering. read more

Farina was empty on a rainy saturday afternoon, should have taken our cue from that, we ordered a few pastries to try (we live a 40 minute drive away). The scone (lemon poppyseed)was okay but had a weird aftertaste like fake flavoring was added. For 5$ i got a very small VERY dry cupcake, with an absolutely ridiculous amount of heavy frosting, i ate one bite and closed the box, i have had better cupcakes from a box mix. The counter person was very nice, the shop itself was cute but definitely not cute enough to lure us back. read more

Order from Farina pretty regularly via DoorDash. They know me. My partner laughs because they often add a special goodie with our order. My partner took serious note of my absolute obsession with their chocolate cake. It's a lovely chocolate cake, very moist with homemade chocolate buttercream, which is perfection. I'm a baker but I have little resistance when goodies are around, so I order to get goodies as individual servings. This is my favorite bakery in town, hands-down. It's very important that if you order delivery or to-go, allow your cake to reach room temp. The buttercream is waxy (it's cold butter, of course it is!!) and the fats in the cake that make it most are solidified, so the cake will seem dry. Further, cake tends to be less flavorful when the fats are solids, so I'd take any critique of their food you might come across with a grain of salt- people don't think these things through if they're not bakers but Farina needs to keep their homemade, quality goodies refrigerated so they remain fresh. To note: they switch their menu a lot. They had some amazing seasonal items this autumn and winter. Most notable a chocolate cupcake with orange ganache and buttercream. My partner freaked out when he ate their Choux au Craquelin last night. We ordered an ice cream sandwich. Guessing they were out of the cookies so they sent a pint of Eb & Bean (he LOVED) and this unexpected pastry which he said was "AMAZING!". I also love their salted chocolate chip cookie, they're everything galette... I mean, in truth the only items I haven't been head-over-heels for are simply items that have ingredients I'm not into and my partner loves everything. I highly recommend them as your go-to for birthdays, date night, or delivery. Whatever the occasion, you certainly cannot go wrong. read more

Love, love this little business on Hawthrone! The place was small but full of characters with mismatch tables, antique lamps, and colorful background. There wasn't many seating area so if you want to settle here for a bit make sure to come early (My favorite is the window sill table!). There selection of baked goods and pastries may not be vast but they're VERY GOOD. I split a Savory Chickpea and Sweet Potato Hand Pie and a Everything Bagel Gallette with a friend and they're phenomenol. Warmed, the pastries were crumbly. The Chickpea and Sweet Potato turned out to be a great flavor combination, perfect for the gloomy weather. The Gallette certainly reminded me of an Everything Bagel.
