They're essentially 24/7 because during Covid they made the incredibly bizarre and ingenious move to put their insanely beautiful patisserie in old school slot-style cafeteria vending machines. So during isolation one could run out in your mask and gloves, stay six feet away from the person behind you, and yank open any door to reveal an amazing little dessert behind each one. It was a taste of restaurants (professional desserts!!!) that we all missed so much. But it wasn't a gimmick that went away like the closed bubble dining pods. The cafeteria vending machines have stayed. I've picked up multiple different styles to have lots of dessert options at a birthday, I've stopped there in the middle of the night for an after-hospital cheering up, it's basically made for wandering over after making love any time of day or night. I tried the hazelnut chocolate mousse cake which had a name that I've completely forgotten now of course! It took me a while to find it while I was there, but there is a menu on a table that describes what each of the desserts are, since they are only identified by name in the vending machine.

Note: They accept credit cards, but a sign advised that they prefer cash. 5 tables outside, including 3 in a shaded area, were a welcome sight. Enjoyed med our lunch and treats in comfort. The pork in the pork bun was sweet and good. I was not a big fan of the hotdog in the hotdog bun, but the bread in which it was baked was fantastic. The raspberry pistachio frangipane was a lovely (and not so delicate - good for travel) tart. We also bought a coconut bread and the ube mochi bread (latter was fantastic) and both were shareable and great for a few days afterwards as well. The sandwiches also did just fine lasting until midday in a hiking backpack - the combo, BBQ pork, lemongrass pork, lemongrass chicken, and pulled pork sandwiches. We wished the latter three didn't all have the same pulled meat texture and that the lemongrass flavor came through better. Otherwise, reasonable and cheap meal.

Although there weren't any ham sandwich in the display case, the woman at the register informed us that they'd be able to make one for us on the spot. The walnut roll had been sitting around in the case all day so the outside had developed a hardened crust that was a bit difficult to chew through. That said, the inside had plenty of walnuts, great flavor, and would have been really nice toasted up in an oven. The jambon-beurre here is as good as it gets: high quality butter on artisanal bread, with a simple piece of ham on top. The pickled onions and pickles on the side were a nice touch as well. I wish more places would offer a jambon-beurre, but sourcing high-quality bread and butter is probably the biggest challenge for businesses. If you're here to get one item, I'd highly recommend either a baguette, or the jambon-beurre.

Brief Summary: - Discoverable on Saturdays in the Farmer's…read moreMarket near PSU (not sure if this is all Saturdays?) - Lots of pastries to choose from - Not too sweet, so you can eat many in one sitting We visited the Farmer's Market closest to PSU, and there we found out about a dessert cake place called Mio's Delectables. As mentioned in the first bullet point under "Brief Summary," on the first Saturday we were able to visit their store and bought some desserts. However on the second Saturday, we looked and walked around the whole park but they were nowhere to be found. I'm not sure if they arrive at this Farmer's Market bi-weekly, so the second week just happened to be a random day off, I'm not sure. There was a line forming three feet away from the cake's display cases, and after we were lining up, one of the staff members handed us a number card. When they called, that was the time for us to pick and choose the cakes. There were a ton of different cakes to choose from. Some of them were the ones I saw as yelp photos, and some I have never seen them before. A whole treasure trove of pretty cakes to choose from, it was very difficult to narrow it down to the ones we wanted. In the photo, it only contains three, but we have also ordered small cookies and a fluffy soufflé cheesecake. This cheesecake, we ate soon after we bought it. The texture is brittle but moist, so it's not the typical dense and creamy version. (I liked this one because the post-mouthfeel is light). The cookies were nice shortbread cookies; airy and buttery. We bought two different types: original and strawberry, and I liked the original more. I tasted the strawberry flavor in the second one but I preferred the sweetness in the first (the strawberry cookie had a tartier flavor from the strawberry) I don't recall the exact names of the three cakes that are shown in the photo, but there was a coffee chocolate parfait, the cream brûlée, and the grapefruit fruit tart. The three desserts were not too sweet and also not too decadent, so these we slurped up with our spoons like it was nothing. My favorite was the coffee parfait because of the creamy top and the refreshing coffee jelly underneath. I mixed the contents together because on their own they don't have the magic pop.
