So it is Christmas day and you just have to find a coffee shop that is open. We got lucky. This little coffee shop is right next door to Screen Door restaurant. Which by the way you do not want to miss. They were busy, buy the wait was not long. My cappuccino was very good. They have a really neat little sitting room off to the side as you enter the coffee house. The staff was very friendly and did a great job with our drinks. Will be back!

Hidden gem of a coffee shop! Tucked next to Screen Door on E Burnside, the front of this store is tiny and easy to miss. Head inside and you'll find incredibly creative drinks and a surprisingly large underground seating area that is retro-style and like a windowless casino where time ceases to pass (or flies by). Staff is super friendly while also taking their coffee seriously. This will definitely be a spot added to my cafe rotation as I'm excited to see the seasonal specials they come up with!

No preference was the perfect blend of upscale flavors and down-to-earth atmosphere. Everything is crafted to perfection, and the service was freindly!

The drink I ordered wasn't my favorite, but the customer service was great. No Preference is a really neat coffee shop with TONS of seating. At first the place looks really small, but near the counter was a small set of steps which led to a really big area with tables and chairs. No Preference is a really cool spot to sip a coffee and just hang out!

Okay, No Preference might just be my new favorite coffee shop--and no, that's not a contradiction. Walked in this afternoon expecting a tiny little grab-and-go spot, and boom--there's a whole cozy basement hideaway downstairs that feels like a secret clubhouse for chill vibes and great tunes. Super welcoming, relaxed, and somehow both stylish and unpretentious. The staff? Absolutely amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, and actually took the time to get to know me and help me pick drinks I'd love. (Spoiler: they nailed it.) I tried the Pineapple Orange Guava Matcha--subtle and refreshing like a tropical vacation in a cup. But the Banana Miso Latte? That one stole my heart. It's weird. It's wonderful. I want another already. Also had a sandwich with chorizo sausage and mango habanero hot sauce that hit the spot. Pro tip: get the hot sauce. Trust me. You'll thank me later. Prices were totally fair, especially for the quality and service. This place is a vibe, a flavor adventure, and a comfort zone all in one. I'll definitely be back--and next time, I'm bringing friends.

A welcoming coffee shop with a great atmosphere. Previously called Kopi coffee, but it seems the place has a new owner. I was a bit confused to locate this place as the map on my iPhone still shows both Kopi and No Preference at the same location. A decent price, no extra charge for alternative milk, and various coffee/tea options. I also saw some pastries in the window. My oat milk latte was creamy, balanced, and tasty for sure. Once I entered, l also noticed more seats and tables in the back.

First time here and absolutely love it. The coffee was amazing and super tasty! Perfect temperature as well and creamy. The service was great! The ambiance was nice and cozy, especially during the rainy season. Will definitely be back to try other lattes.

The caramel taste homemade and while it may not be for everyone it was a bit over cooked giving the otherwise very sweet drink a touch of bitter bite at the end. I truly couldn't get enough and wish I would have gotten a larger cup. The staff was super nice, and even made a solid attempt at my name. While I didn't stay, the shop was lovely and unique with its tables and floor seating. If in the neighborhood, this is a great spot to pause for a bit between the many shops around. This is nothing on the shop, but I always warn when places are in those older parts of town, ie no parking lot and very small congested side streets around. Be care and slow finding parking as it can be a challenge. For me, this shop is worth it.

Great service from friendly barista. I ordered the Chocolate Jesus and my kid had the Arabic People's Latte. Both drinks were unique and superbly delicious with cardamom accents. I would have ordered another round but I didn't want to be a jittery maniac for the rest of the day. I'm not a Portland resident, but I do live in the PNW. Tōv will always be my first stop when passing through the Rose City.

The Experience: I visited Golden Hour with a friend after taking a break from thrifting clothes around the Hawthorne neighborhood. What stood out: Food: I ordered the strawberry matcha latte with oatmilk. The presentation was gorgeous with layers of colors and textures. I placed my order and the barista let me know about a vegan cold foam alternative. The drink was great and the matcha paired nicely with everything in the drink including pandan, coconut flakes, and vanilla. The interior was clean and there were plenty of places to sit. Lots of people hanging out in the shop, some working, some talking, but it seemed like a good spot to get some stuff done. There was music playing that set a welcoming mood. Overall, highly recommend if you enjoy flavored lattes.

Maaaaaaybe my new favorite coffee shop!…read more I had been to their other location but for some sad reason never made it here. Located on Hawthorne just past the curve at 50th, they've got plenty of free street parking in the nearby blocks. They don't have much external signage but they do have a lot of outdoor streetside seating, so it makes you wonder what everyone else knows. Inside, they've got Coava coffee, efficient staff, and an old-school cafe vibe. With multiple couches (one of my main criteria for a coffee shop) and free wifi, this is a place to work, meet people, and slow down. Great long hours - they're open 6am-6pm.

The intentions were genuine and things have progressed in a way where Albina Press is one of the most recognized coffee brands in the city. It's not too dissimilar from its OG sister location in North Portland (#3), where they still brew high quality caffeinated drinks with the vibes of a homey communal space with chairs, couches, and individual tables for a proper coffee date, WFH worthy WiFi, and plenty of anti-war propaganda in the self-serve water area in the back. The latte art was on point, the cold brew was most definitely strong, cafe au lait was milky and foamy in the best way, and the americano drinks were fabulous. While their hours (#4) aren't particularly suited for after-work hours, they do an excellent job of keeping their space clean and the vibes low key throughout the morning and afternoon. Prices are good for Portland standards. Most drinks are $5 and under, even for the largest sizes. The limited but high quality pastry selection is also appreciated. The service was good overall, just be certain with the order and don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Lines can happen, albeit rarely, and I would encourage most folks to drink the coffee on the spot. The space is part of the experience (be weary of the restrooms tho), so enjoy the low key ambiance with a drinkable jumpstart to the day. Their shop is very curated and is definitely has a "recently here because of gentrification vibe." However, I know it's been in Portland for a while and locals swear by it. With shops like these I find it easy to focus and work. The minimalist and industrial decor is a great place for adhd brains like mine. I was warmly greeted by someone at the register. I was interested in so many choices on their matcha. Horchata iced coffe, orange latte, strawberry Ube matcha. I asked the barista if they do exchanges or remakes for drink if the customer dislikes what they ordered. She mentioned they have a NO REMAKES policy. I knew it was time to lock in instead of trying something Willynilly. She was super patient with me as I wondered what to get and discussed my hesitations. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. They have a bathroom, 1 booth, bench seating and wall seating. It would be a bit of a challenge to bring a group larger than 3 here as they're small and busy. Maybe if you sat outside. Glad I gave this place a chance :)
