My boyfriend is a vegetarian and, while I do eat some meat, I've always appreciated Plumeria's high quality of fake meats. I've always said that if more fake meat tasted as good as Plumeria's then I could consider becoming a vegetarian too. :) My go-to order is the fake duck pad see ew, which I always find funny because I would never order real duck. Encinitas is sorely lacking great Asian food. So the flavors of Plumeria really stand out from just about everything downtown. I enjoy the clear yet satisfying broth of the chi soup. This is the spot to get some scrumptious vegetarian food in North County/Encinitas area, but you don't have to be vegetarian to love the food here. The Tangerine Chicken is bomb, tart and perfectly tangy yet slightly sweet. Mop the tangerine sauce with your broccoli and brown rice. The Yellow Curry is decadent and filling. Every bite feels flavorful, intentional. The Appetizer Platter is a fantastic way to figure out what you like and then you can order the full appetizer of that particular item. It comes with the most popular appetizers: 2 flower cups, 2 satay chicken, 2 fresh spring rolls, 4 crispy tofu, and summer salad. Service: We always have had friendly, pretty quick service. Timeliness depends on how busy it is (Saturday dinner rush vs. random 3 pm meal on a Tuesday) and if you order in or to take out. Final Thoughts: This place is legit. When I visited their other location in San Diego, I knew this restaurant was special. So I was excited when I saw they were coming to Encinitas. Personally, I crave their cucumber salad as well as the Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce that comes on the same plate. There have been times when I have stopped by for lunch 'to go', and eaten it at the beach. So good. So, of course that was one of the dishes we ordered. I've also been to this Encinitas location before with people that absolutely love their young jackfruit (tastes like pulled pork). So glad they opened one up in north county! The one in San Diego recently became one of our favorite restaurants after dining there few times and taking different friends there, who all happened to like the food there. The entire menu is vegan and it's so good you won't believe that until you look at the menu description and even more unbelievable after you taste the food because it's just as good as non vegan food - there was no compromise! For the meat, they use mock meat and is made of soy mostly. Some of the stuff we really like include tuna flower cups, chicken satay (even better than actual chicken), larb, and basil eggplant. The sticky rice with the larb was on the hard side but still edible. The larb was so flavorful and the mock meat was crispy and juicy! The basil eggplant was packed with flavors and healthy veggies. For staters, the Satay Chicken served with peanut sauce and cucumber salad was great appetizer. Crispy on the outside, it had a great taste and flavor. The peanut sauce adds a nutty sweet flavor and compliments it well. What is unique about Plum when you order Thai tea you get a choice of organic soy milk, organic coconut milk or your standard dairy base. I went for the classic of dairy and it hit the spot every time I have Thai food. With this being my first time, I tend to always go with the Pad Thai as its such a unique dish with tons of flavor. I opted for the fried tofu as my protein source. Their old school Pad Thai consisted of rice vermicelli, house tamarind sauce, fresh bean sprouts, green onion, crushed peanuts and egg. What I found to be different with this Pad Thai that it contained a lot of sauce more like a spaghetti versus most Thai places where the noodles are not covered in sauce. Tonight I ordered, and I don't know if they're having trouble staffing the kitchen or I just was unlucky. Pad See-ew: exceptionally oily. Off taste. Mock duck did not taste good at all. Didn't want to finish it. Pumpkin curry: people have raved about this. The pumpkin was not cooked enough (al dente is fine, but this was not quite there yet) and the taste was off in general. The papaya salad was super fresh but could had used a kick from a chili pepper(I added chili sauce ) the chicken satay with the peanut sauce was nice and crispy with a juicy texture of chicken. This is the sister restuarant of plumeria in north park so the menu is a bit different. I have yet to be disappointed from this place, every dish bursts with flavor! The larb (with mock duck) is super crispy (but a tiny bit on the saltier side) and has a sharp citrus kick to it. It comes with a delicious side of sticky rice. The sampler is a great way to try a little of each appetizer (for 2 people). The chicken satay is also crispy yet moist and spongy on the inside. I love love love the satay sauce. Creamy with a hint of spiciness. The caudiflower cup is crunchy and light. Pad se iw: the chicken tasted like eggs (you also have an option without eggs). I stopped by downtown Encinitas looking for a quick bite for lunch, and my constant cravings for Thai food brought me here. The servers were super sweet and I loved the comfy chairs and pillows. On ambiance, this place wins a prize for sure. I got the vegetarian duck pad see ew, and it was a solid 4/5. I loved how many vegetables were on the plate, as other restaurants don't normally give so much. The noodles themselves were also tender, well sauced, and delicious. What brought the dish down from a 5/5 was the vegetarian duck. It was a little dry and super salty, which was quite disappointing because the rest of the dish was so good. It's a vegetarian place but almost all of their dishes are Vegan. Just make sure to tell them no egg for the dishes that typically come with egg. Though, they often ask to confirm. I really like how you don't have to double check to make sure your dish was made Vegetarian/Vegan (no oyster or fish sauce) like a most Thai places and wondering if they really accommodated your dietary restrictions. I've been wanting to try the Plumeria in San Diego for the longest time so I was thrilled to hear they opened a location in Encinitas! I came with my family on a Saturday night and the line was out the door. We ended up waiting close to 40 minutes so I'd definitely recommend calling ahead. We ordered immediately after sitting down because we were starving. We got the satay "chicken", spring rolls, tangerine "chicken", pad thai, and green curry. Satay chicken: this vegan chicken somehow tastes exactly like chicken! I have no idea how they do it since mock chicken is usually a miss for me. It was fried and crisp and had a good flavor. Spring rolls: very fresh tasting and a good healthy option. I really enjoyed the basil lime vinaigrette. Tangerine chicken: special of the day, this is similar to what you'd expect from orange chicken. I prefer the texture of the satay chicken over the tangerine chicken though. However, the chicken is fried well. Pad Thai: very solid, it came out piping hot and there were no complaints. Green curry with mock duck: delicious! One of the best curries I've ever had. It wasn't watered down at all and was creamy and flavorful. The duck was a little spongy and more similar to mushroom but still tasted great. Overall, Plumeria has some of the best Thai food I've ever had. And another positive is that it's all vegan! I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area. read more

It was absolutely awful. The other location is so much better. Up until now I've always gone to other location because I can't eat gluten. I asked for a dish and asked if it's gluten free, they said they can make it gluten free ( they never had to make it that way before, it just came without gluten). Anyway, the fish came with no sauce, no flavour, it was just noodles with veggies and oil. Do I said this is flavourless. They refused to take it back. I am SO excited that Plumeria is now in Encinitas! When my husband and I discovered their University Heights sister location a few years ago, we enjoyed it so much and always wished we could visit more often. I am always on the lookout for vegan or veg-friendly restaurants that aren't so trendy that they totally break the bank, and Plumeria fits the bill. We finally checked out this location yesterday with a group of friends from different culinary walks of life - a couple of vegans, some pescatarians and some meat-eaters, plus kids. We were seated at the biggest table in the middle of the restaurant and ordered a variety of dishes - a salad, curries, noodles, a stir-fry and their appetizer sampler (one of my favorites from the U.H. location), plus some Thai teas. My husband and I shared the appetizer sampler which was delicious as always, as well as the Spicy Noodle dish (spicy #4, because this mama is currently pregnant and heartburn is no joke!) with added fried "chicken." Our dish was perfect in flavor, but the spice level was more than I anticipated - next time I'll go with a 3. A couple of people at our table went with a "Thai 10" and said it definitely delivered, which they proved with their watering eyes and runny noses. The kids loved their yellow and pumpkin curries, and our other friends appeared to be thoroughly enjoying their dishes as well. There was hardly a plate left behind with any food on it. Our portion of the bill for the appetizer sampler and Spicy Noodle dish was about $27 pre-tax, which isn't cheap by any means but our appetites were pretty satisfied. Next time we'll omit the sampler and get two mains instead, which I expect would cost about the same but be a little more food. We enjoyed our lunch so much that I decided to take my mum there tonight for dinner. Two visits in two days is a pretty solid testimony to how good the food is, and I hope they are here to stay. Initially, I resisted visiting because I thought that Plumeria might feature watered-down Thai. Ok, I can admit I was wrong. Even if it is watered down for American tastes, it is truly delicious and worth repeat visits. We ordered the Tom Kah, pumpkin curry with mock duck, Ka Pow with fried tofu, and sauteed eggplant with jackfruit. The mock duck is amazing. The texture is a bit crisp, a bit chewy, and very good. Next time, I would just add the mock duck to everything. The pumpkin curry didn't have pumpkin pieces in it; instead, the pumpkin was blended so that the curry itself was orange. It was addicting. The ka pow, which featured thin egg noodles, was also very flavorful. I would definitely order these two dishes again with mock duck. Do not miss the vegan coconut ice cream! read more

I'll start with the positives. We went here with a big group (9 people) and the ambiance was really great, staff was friendly and helpful, and food came really fast. I got the veggie spring rolls which were delicious and filling enough for a whole meal honestly. However, I ordered the Ka Pow as well. I have never been to a Thai restaurant and I gotta say, I don't think I would order Ka Pow again because it tasted more like garlic spaghetti than Thai food, but that's my personal opinion. A couple people at my table also had complaints about a lack of spice in their dishes when they requested extra spice. A couple people ordered the same dish and had uneven portions of food.
