We called MD Plumbing because we had used them for some work on a sump pump a few years ago (when they were Grimes Plumbing) - I remember not being particularly happy with their service, but it seemed like a safe enough bet to call someone we'd already used for an off-hours problem. At least we knew they'd come out, right? Wrong. At 5:30 the guy who answered the emergency line told us that he'd be out in "a couple of hours." By 10pm, there was no sign of him. He hadn't called, and several calls to the emergency line (which is a cell phone number) yielded no answer, even though we left two messages inquiring about when he would arrive. While we understand that the plumber could have been on an emergency call somewhere else, it could have been simple enough for him to call us and let us know he was running late. We understand that emergencies happen, but when we have water dripping through our ceiling light fixture we are certainly going to view that as a pretty urgent situation of our own. So at 10pm we started calling other plumbers. Within an hour and a half, we had a plumber in our house who had driven down from Indianapolis (an hour drive), diagnosing our problem at midnight. And when he left at nearly 2am, it cost us half of what MD quoted us--and the plumber promised to come back on Sunday if the problem hadn't resolved itself. It's now 10:15 am the following day, and we still haven't heard from the first plumber. The level of unprofessionalism shown by this company will not be forgotten, and I will never use them (and will make sure to let everyone I know not to call them either).

I just had Grimes Plumbing out to my house to install a new faucet fixture in a bathroom sink. The…read moreguy doing the job slipped as he was cutting the drain pipe, and hit the sink, which broke. When I spoke to his boss (a co-owner) by phone, I was immediately told that the cost of the sink would be my responsibility. The owner that I spoke to was aggressive and hostile from the very moment I began speaking to him. He made no effort to apologize for the damage or to say any mollifying words whatsoever. His first words to me were this: "Sir, this is not our responsibilty. Here's what's going to happen: we will find a replacement sink and it will be charged to you along with the installation cost of the fixture." When I objected, he told me to get off "his worker's phone" (it was my own phone that I had lent to the worker in question). I am a reasonable person and I am not accustomed to receiving this kind of treatment from anyone, much less a company one would expect to value its relations with its customers. Needless to say, I sent the plumber on his way. I will never call Grimes again and I will spend the next 10 years telling this account to all my friends and acquaintances. I had an electrician and a construction worker doing work on my house at the same time, and they were dumbfounded at the way I had been treated. It seems to me that Grimes just bought themselves some rather expensive and damaging P.R. The worst thing is, I originally called Grimes based on the rating they had gotten here on the HT site. My electrician later told me that Grimes is known for having the very highest rates of any plumbing outfit in town. I would advise you not to do business with them. If their rates cant purchase security for the client, they are not worth it.

Pricing not transparent nor reasonable: We asked Lohmeyer…read morePlumbing to install a bath faucet and drain fixture for a stand-alone antique-style bath.   The original fixture failed and leaked. The plumber assigned to the job brought a helper to evaluate and quote the work. He also spent some time at the plumbing supply house determining if parts were available to fix the failed fixture. They determined that we would need a new fixture. My wife worked with the supply house and selected and purchased the fixture. Once we had the fixture in hand we received the quote for this installation.  I was dismayed to see the quote for the installation work was $3877.00! When I asked for more detail I was given a verbal summary of the additional materials for the work that seemed to amounted to less than $50. We notified Lohmeyer that we intended to reject their proposal. I contacted another reputable local plumber and received a quote for about  $400 for installation. I accepted the quote, and the work was completed quickly and to my satisfaction. The plumber and his helper spent less than 2 hours to complete the work. We then received a bill for $595 for the service rendered. Note that they charge much more to quote this job than a reputable plumber charged us to complete the job. If you work with Lohmeyer I recommend getting a firm quote before they start the work. Then again, I would not recommend trying to do this as I think it will be a waste of your time. This morning I walked into the kitchen and discovered that water was leaking from under the kitchen…read moresink. Within two hours Commercial Service had a plumber at our house. He discovered two sources of the leaking water, fixed one immediately and restored water supply to the rest of our house. He recommended a new kitchen faucet to replace ours, which was part of the problem, checked local availability and I was able to pick it up on my way home from a medical appointment. Soon after I got home, another Commercial Service plumber arrived, installed the faucet and double checked to make sure that the dishwasher wasn't part of the problem. Before the second plumber arrived, the first plumber had contacted a mitigation company and they sent a rep to evaluate the situation. By the middle of the afternoon they began the work of drying out the areas that had been affected by the leak. The scheduler at Commercial Service was very kind and did all he could to orchestrate this much appreciated help. We are very satisfied and very grateful!
