Had dinner here tonight and the food was very good. My husband had the chicken-fried steak. They don't offer any bread with the meal which would have been nice. There are two gravies offered for this entree; jalapeño and cream gravy. My husband said jalapeño but asked the waitress to put cream gravy on the mashed potatoes, thinking that jalapeño gravy would go well with his potatoes. He was charged $.50 for the gravy on the potatoes. What?! Who charges anything for putting gravy on mashed potatoes?! My thought was that they charge extra for a different gravy, which still doesn't make any sense. Anyway, when questioned specifically about the extra charge, the waitress said she was sorry, but yes, in fact they do charge for gravy on the potatoes. Really ?! It's only $.50 but good grief. Amazing experience. We got the chicken fried chicken (which was so yummy, tiny bit of kick and so much flavor in the batter), pulled pork nachos, and deviled eggs. Bathrooms were flawless and clean, even smelled yummy! The only flaw is the fries could've been fried (seemed like they were frozen), and things didn't run seamlessly behind the scenes, which we expected for a new, small town restaurant. How ever, wait was not long, in and out in little over an hour (busy Friday night), and our waitress was so nice and humble and really was concerned about us having a great experience. The restaurant is where the old band hall used to be, and I'm glad to see they kept homage to that with really cool instrument-fixtures. What a great find in Taylor! Great variety of menu options and a cute little location. We had a bit of everything-- kids had breakfast items like eggs and bacon and French toast and Mac n' cheese, I had Roasted beet salad and my husband the Benedict-- it was all better than I expected it to be. Some friends and I decided to try this place Togo while we were hanging out at the Loose Screw. The appetizers were great! We had fried green tomatoes, New Orleans shrimp, and brussel sprouts. We also had the club sandwich with quinoa salad. I have to say the sandwich was good but the quinoa salad was more like and onion salad with some quinoa. Other than that the place was solid. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the less than mediocre quinoa salad. read more

July 2019 - Newer place, they have a few minor kinks to work out, but be patient. The blackened shrimp Alfredo - the recipe needs some tweaking it's seasoned but not blackened, sauce is just ok. Loved our lunch today! Needed a quick lunch spot driving through town.. found this place on yelp. Casual, fun, and unique find in Taylor, Tx. I had the grilled hot turkey sandwich with quinoa side- it was in the 30's today and a nice warm delicious sandwich was perfect. My husband had a burger on whole wheat and he was very pleased with it. We were in on a Tuesday and so it wasn't super busy inside.. we had prompt and friendly service. I could see this place being very popular on weekends and when the weather is nice enough to sit outside! Will definitely go back next time we are in Taylor. read more

The pork tenderloin is fantastic. Chicken fried steak is smothered in a roux based gravy, no water mix. Their mixed veggies are all low carb ingredients. And the mashed potatoes are great, mashed not creamed to a mush. read more

This is a great little find in Taylor TX. I love that they repurposed an old school band hall and they did a good job of doing it. The staff is always friendly here and the place is always clean. I love listening to the band hall music they play in the background but it's not overwhelming so you can still visit with the people you are eating with. They have some really good daily specials and the food is always good and there is plenty of eat. They also do a good presentation of their good on the plates. This is a nice place and we will keep going back to eat here. read more

Food quality has slipped since they opened and make absolutely sure you are wearing a mask at every moment you are there or you will be rudely reminded multiple times of your infractions meanwhile staff is spotty on the same topic. If you value a peaceful reasonable dinner go elsewhere read more

The last time I only had the Brussel Sprouts, I love Brussel Sprouts, but I had no idea they can taste this good. My family hates Brussel Sprouts and they even picked on it. Ate there with a friend and his 8 year old daughter today. We started with the bread basket and Pulled Pork Nachos. The biscuits and rolls were delicious. The cornbread was just ok. The Pulled Pork Nachos were really good. The pork was tender and moist. My friend had the meatloaf and said it was good but the tomato sauce was a bit tangy for his taste. I will note that he ate every bite. His daughter had the cheeseburger and fries off the kid's menu. She said the fries were delicious. The burger looked great but she took that with her to eat later so I can't review that here. I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and mac n cheese. The steak was a bit tough and over cooked but had a good flavor. The potatoes and gravy were tasty. My mac n cheese was very good - creamy and cheesy. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is cool as it's in the old high school band hall. I liked the funky decor. We will all definitely be going back. Can't wait to try the breakfast offerings. read more

Portions are small. My chicken fried chicken was as big as 1/3 pound hamburger. Mashed potatoes were cold. Mac and cheese was good but it was only an 1/4 cup portion. Peach cobbler was excellent! If I ever go back it would only be to get dessert. read more

Very nice remodel of old school facility, but hard to find if you are not familiar with the area. My wife and I visited for lunch and both ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. We were not impressed. It was like they just grilled a frozen chicken breast without adding any seasoning ~ very bland. It would also be nice if you offered cheese without having to ask for it on the side. When my wife asked for mustard the waiter seemed perplexed. The French fries were good, but overall we were not impressed. The service was very slow given the fact there wasn't hardly anyone there. The dinner menu looked impressive and we will give it another try to see if we just visited on a bad day. read more

This was our first time to try the restaurant and overall we were really pleased. I got the honey mustard glazed pork tenderloin I believe it was called and it was really tasty! My only complaint would be MORE please! I got three slices which for pork tenderloin isn't just a whole lot of meat but it was still very good as were the mashed potatoes and squash medley. I did order a cup of chicken tortilla soup as a starter but it never made it. Sigh.... Oh well, maybe next time. My husband got the chicken fried steak and was pretty happy with it - it had a bit of sinew in it but he managed to cut around it. Our waitress was really sweet and attentive (just kind of forgot about my soup). The presentation was very nice and the portions were fair. The food however, was so bland. When I say bland, I mean no spices what so ever. It definitely didn't meet out flavor profile. We had the breakfast buffet. Comparable to a hotel free breakfast bar only several of the offerings were empty. We waited 45 minutes for 2 small pancakes. McDonald's would have been a better option and would have saved us about $40 bucks! I hope they improve with time but for now it was a total waste of money and time. read more

We are always up for trying something new. In a small town you always have the same old same old restaurants. This is a nice addition to Taylor. The food was great, and the desserts are to die for, but after our visit something is still bothering me. There was an older gentlemen man (owner possibly) who seem to be yelling not so nice to one of the young ladies whom was a waitress. The young lady then came back and continued her job with poise and grace, but she was fighting back tears. I also noticed she had a red finger marks like someone had grabbed her. I sure hope the man that yelled at her was not the one who grabbed her as well. They seem to have a staff of mostly young high school students, which is great, but if that would have been my kid I wouldn't have tolerated that type of behavior. He should be guiding and setting examples, not tearing those young soles down. Debating now on whether or not to go back. We gave the sweet young lady a nice tip, and told her she was doing a great job. She seemed then to perk up. Bless her heart. read more

I brought my family from out of town for lunch. I saw almost 5 stars so I thought it would be a great lunch. We ordered from quite an assortment of food on the menu. It took over an hour to get our food. Each plate came out 5 to 10 minutes between. We had to keep asking for the rest of our order. The hamburger was way over cooked, chicken was dry. When the bill came the waitress said they were going to give 25 percent off the bill but the girl did not tell the other girl ringing it up. They said they would correct it but I had to leave to pick up my child from school. Very disappointed. They need more help and better cooks read more

I really wish I could give Plowman's more stars because the food is decent, but the waitstaff, the kitchen and management need some serious training. We've been going quite a bit since they opened, but every time we go there is either a problem with our order, or we get ignored by wait staff (not serving water for example), or our order takes forever when there is hardly any people in the restaurant. You name it, it's happened to us. Nevertheless, we continue to go, because it is really the only place in Taylor where you can sit down and have real food. I have never been to a restaurant so many times and had so many problems. Twice I've ordered the 1/2 pound grass fed burger, specifically asking for medium rare and got the overcooked kid's sized patty, I was served a side salad when I ordered the big salad, they are consistently out of something, and are only told once we already place our orders...several times we we're not given water or silverware and had to go chase someone down to ask for it.. those are just a few examples. There is never a manger that comes to apologize, and all we're ever offered is a dessert on the house (which I can't even eat). We had really hoped that after 6 months of being open, the kinks would have been worked out by now, and that things would have been running more smoothly. Also please, can you stop bringing the checks out when your customers are still eating? Thanks. read more

we really wanted to like this place. it's such a cute and unique spot! but we've been in twice and sadly probably won't be back. we went for the mother's day brunch buffet, where all the food was cold and our server hardly came to check on us at all. we went back today, hoping that they would have improved since the last time. but our server couldn't answer many of our questions and acted like we were burdening her by asking. our friend didn't get the soup that she ordered with her meal until we were all done with our food. my husband's food was lukewarm, at best. and when our friend got the to-go latte that she ordered and opened the lid, there was a short hair near the rim. when she told the server, her response under her breath was "it isn't even touching the drink." so, needless to say, we probably won't be visiting again and that makes me sad. hopefully they will get their act together soon! read more
