Good food and cool location. Took awhile to get seated, several tables were open and employees walked by us at least 5 times before someone finally asked if we'd been helped yet. Food was really good and portions were large, the kids weren't even able to finish all of their food. I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of fried eggs, and should have stuck with just the biscuits as it was plenty of food. Lack of service while waiting to be seated and the fact that our food was delivered to us only luke warm keeps me from giving them 5 stars, but that won't be enough to keep us away and we'll definitely return. read more

I was driving through Taylor and stumbled upon this restaurant. It's house in an Art Deco high school that's loaded with character. The entry has a drum that the turned into a chandelier. The restaurant has tons of windows and patio seating. The food was delicious. I highly recommend their meat loaf. The service was on point and friendly. Decided to give them another try and sadly was disappointed again. There were no condiments on our table (there was on the others), they brought our coffee in to go cups, although others before and after us got regular cups. Lastly, the creamer for the coffee was curdled. We never made it to the food, we decided to leave after that. read more

I had heard great things, and my boyfriend and I decided to try it. The food was so bland, it was like hospital food. Not a pinch of seasoning on anything. He got the shrimp Alfredo, and the shrimp was over cooked and rubbery, the Alfredo sauce tasted like absolutely nothing, and somehow the garlic bread was also bland? Like how do you mess up garlic bread. I got the steak medium rare, and it was more like medium well (hardly any pink). The macaroni and cheese was also incredibly bland. To make matters worse, we both got food poisoning. Not sure from which dish, as we shared. I would not recommend eating here. If you want upscale American, go to greenhouse. read more

As an educator, I was super excited when I pulled up and the restaurant was in what use to be a school. The exterior was beautiful, with an industrial, mid-century modern flair. Inside, the decor was whimsical and classic. The entry chandelier was a set of drums suspended from the ceiling. As we waited for our table we watched a young man making pastries through the window. The service was swift and friendly. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. They were presented with a pepper jelly and goat cheese. I love that combination. My husband enjoyed the chocolate pie. If you order coffee, they will bring you a mug the size of half a pot of coffee. Seemed like too much in the beginning, but in the end, a large cup of coffee encourages people to sit and stay for a while. Thanks for the hospitality. read more

On our last trip to Plowman's they were out of the salmon croquettes and brought the check before we were finished ordering our meal. Tried again yesterday, a Monday around 4pm. Out of salmon croquettes again. Also, there were not many customers but we were asked if we would mind half-table/half booth seating (there were 2 of us) even though there were at least 6 vacant booths. We agreed to the half & half to be accommodating. However, two more parties of 2 came in shortly after us and were seated at booths. Really disappointed that we keep having not so great experiences at our favorite Taylor restaurant. read more

This charming cafe is an absolute gem. Located inside the old HS band building in charming old town Taylor this is THE place to stop! They have done a terrific job renovating the building while keeping it funky, cool, and trendy. The food was surprisingly good for such a small town. Fun contemporary takes on classics like fried green tomatoes had us raising eyebrows and fighting over portions. The Ham and Jam sandwich was another big hit. If you're driving through, near, or around Taylor stop here. You won't regret it. read more

Very disappointed in the treatment my group received. When we got there, we were told 20min wait (which turned into 50min). We wanted to get drinks from the bar while we waited, and although we watched two groups of people successfully get mimosas and carafes from the bar - we were told there was no bartender and basically ignored. When we FINALLY got seated, we sat there for about 10min without anyone coming to our table. I saw a waitress help a table immediately after seating them (while we had still been waiting) and finally spoke up/flagged her down. I immediately got all the excuses from short staffed, someone's grandpa died, that the people who got mimosas AT the bar prior to getting seated got them from their server (how? If they hadn't been seated and were just standing at the bar). When we finally got our AWESOME server, Karen, we realized we weren't in her section and she was not informed that she had us as her table until we said we hadn't been greeted/helped. If it weren't for our server Karen, you'd get zero stars. The food was flavorless, luke warm, and mediocre at best. But, the treatment of guests of color was the worst experience ever. 10/10 don't recommend if you have people of color in your group. You will be ignored and shoved off onto other people. Very uncomfortable. I'd like to reiterate that Karen was a great server, she shouldn't have been our server as we weren't in her section but they pushed us onto her without even telling her. read more

This place has delicious food! Their breakfast/brunch is by far my favorite, perfect on a nice weekend with nowhere to go and nothing to do! You can snag the eggs Benedict (my fav!) and a mimosa and enjoy your late morning! The servers are great! The place does get crowded on the weekends so best if you're not in a rush. read more

Nice experience in an interesting location. The restaurant is in the old Taylor High School band hall. The decorations keep the high school spirit alive with band instruments and uniforms throughout. Been here a few times and have never had a good experience. One time I was served a very overcooked chicken fried steak. To the point that the meat was hard and brittle. After being able to finally get the waitress to come back she said they would remake it. After some time I heard them tell another customer that they were out of chicken fried steak. I could see some discussion going on in the kitchen. Eventually I was brought a plate. Without saying anything they instead served me a chicken fried chicken. This item is cheaper so I informed the waitress and we didn't even receive an apology. Based on the happening I feel quite sure it was no accident they replaced my steak with chicken. The least they could have done was be honest about it. read more
