They have years of experience and their mode of operation and food prove it. The food is delicious, the help is courteous and fast and the portions and price are generous and fair. I love that the Plaza has reopened nearby. I love that it's got that classic local diner feel inside. I love the friendly service and the delicious, authentic Latin American breakfast food. Oh sure, there's diner food too, but I could tell what's special. The breakfast quesadilla is packed with fresh ingredients, cooked to order. They have custom homemade hot sauce to accompany. My friend had excellent home fries with his nice size waffle, bacon nice and crispy. So that's 5 stars for everything except the hours - I wish they were for dinner so I could eat here more! read more

Enjoyed the old Plaza; this was our first trip to the new one, and we were sad and disappointed. The "poached" eggs had been microwaved and were dry as dust in one part, while liquid in the other. The "omelette" that the menu says comes with cheese, was just a very cooked thin egg with some mushrooms on top of it. The new people are friendly, but service has become very slow, and the new menu only has about 1/4th the choices that the old menu had. Sixty bucks for breakfast; it should have been a lot better. This place used to make their own brewed iced tea . Today, we were served a glass of cold water with a tea bag in it . The bacon was from 2 weeks ago and greasy . The home fries were as dry as dust . I can't believe after 27 years, the new guy ruined this place in less than 2 months. read more

I'm very mixed with this place. Some of the staff is friendly and no issues. The other half of the staff is absolutely miserable and it shows. When the sisters are working, everything is going smoothly. If they're not, everything gets messed up. Burnt toast, either soggy or burnt to a crisp potatoes, coffee never gets refilled, have to constantly ask for stuff we've asked numerous times already and keeps getting forgotten (cream, OJ, jelly etc) We've just learned when the good workers are there, and just go then so we aren't disappointed. read more

Very cramped restaurant. Felt like a sardine. Anywho, ordered Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese on a plain toasted bagel with home fries. Bagel was a generic frozen bagel from Kings, taylor ham was flavorless, and the home fries had a weird flavor. I would have given it only one star, but the food came out fast and the owner did table visits which was nice. Sorry Plaza, I will stick with Pauls or the Red Hut Diner. read more

The people were nice but that's the extent. It was first & last time there. I ordered the special 1/2 soup, 1/2 sandwich (philly cheesesteak). I ordered mushroom soup. The "mushroom soup" was NOT mushroom. It was canned cream of chicken soup that they threw in a few canned mushrooms & tried to pass it off as mushroom soup. Not good. The cheesesteak was an abomination. It came out: 1 piece of yellow fake cheese was laid on each part of the roll - 1 per side. It wasn't even melted. Then Steakums were overcooked and placed on the roll. Slathered in a heap of onions & canned mushrooms to cover up the fake meat and cheese. It was disgusting and inedible. The onions rings were fried in cold oil as they were dripping oil that they had soaked up from sitting in the fryer. Disgusting & inedible. I don't even know how this place is open and serves people some version of food. They don't have anyone in the kitchen who can even resemble anything close to cooking. read more

I have lived in the area for nearly 20 years, and just visited the Plaza Restaurant for the first time. First things first, it's a diner with typical diner food. The menu has several pages ranging from breakfast to sandwiches to large dinner portioned plates... and all of this is accompanied by a daily menu by the front door. Seating is a bit tight and hours are slightly limited, but the overall dining experience is pleasant. So why the 4 star rating, you ask? Two reasons. #1 The staff is beyond friendly and are quite accommodating. Ranging from first timers to daily regulars, everyone from waitresses to the owner/hostess made sure to tend to patrons' needs. #2 The owners are smart. So smart that they added a generator after last year's big snow storm and they were literally the only place open immediately following Hurricane Sandy. This brought in just about everyone from the surrounding towns, including two of the Jonas brothers who live nearby. No one can argue with that :) read more

Visited the Plaza with my boyfriend a few weeks ago after looking for someplace close that we hadn't tried yet. I have no idea what took so long but we're definitely making up for it as we've now visited easily 10 times since. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they've got you covered. You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu but I highly recommend their soups and any of their dinner specials. I have never finished more than spoonful of split pea soup in my life...until here. Their New England Clam chowder is so good my boyfriend actually drank from the bowl to get the last drop. That's gotta say something. The only thing better than the food is the staff and owners. They're very attentive, friendly and always make sure that the meal meets or exceeds your expectations. They always go above and beyond which has secured the Plaza as our number one spot when we're going out close to home. read more

When you live in Denville NJ and you have a lot of restaurants to choose from and you go to Boonton NJ (not that far away) for your top breakfast diner, you know it's great. The Plaza is just that. Family owned and operated.. you will not get a better breakfast both food quality and value in Morris County. Our Grandchildren are already "regulars" and will be customers for life. Theres nothing to complain about here. The family atmosphere between the staff and the customers is great. If other restaurants could be half this good the world would be a better place. And yes im serious. All the food is good and the pancakes are the best. They are fast with the food and the price cant be beat! Been past this place a few times and there's always at least a few people there, so a co worker and I decided to give it a try. I don't think we will be back. The pros are it's a cute small diner and the food came out VERY quickly. Sadly the bread was stale, the meat was dry and the portions were very small compared to other diners in the area at the same price point. Monday, 2pm. Just ate here. Located in a little strip mall on Hawkins Place. Back in the day this was probably considered a strip mall, for me it's too small to think of it as such. I went here because I was craving a western omelette and after reading the reviews on Yelp it seemed the nearest choice. Parking is tight so be careful. Upon entering I noticed it's a bit cramped but I was greeted immediately and seated. Ordered coffee and a western omelette. Came out rather fast but was really good. Only two things: every western omelette I had has cheese, this didn't. No big deal; and the portion was small. Could have been bigger. Total price excluding tip: $8.29. read more

This is a nice little old fashioned diner. I've only eaten breakfast here and the food was good. What makes this place special is the friendly atmosphere. The waitress who served my table this morning was incredibly nice and attentive. Imagine getting your coffee refilled several times without having to track down the waitress! Yay for discovering a new local joint! My husband and I are fans of diner type places as we are very low maintenance customers. Not that we don't appreciate a nice upscale place once in awhile, but a hole in the wall is always welcome and that's what the Plaza Restaurant is. We were about to head over to the spa in Lake Hiawatha for breakfast and decided to head up through Boonton instead, the Plaza was pretty slow around 11:30 which worked out great for us. It's very small prob no more than 30 people at a time and that would be a packed house. We were greeted and told to sit wherever we like--awesome....and it was nice and cool in the restaurant which is a must for comfortable eating. It's definitely dated, wood paneling, super 80's but who cares...it's charming and I'm really only concerned about the food on my plate. The menu is pretty standard for small diner fare, we got basic breakfasts, 2 eggs, toast, homefries, taylor ham, hubs had taylor ham egg and cheese on a hard roll. They cooked my eggs to perfection, nice runny yolks with no slime (this is a big deal for me...slimy eggs=the meal is over), home fries were good and didn't taste like dirty griddle. I spied another guys plate, they have the good fatty link sausages so we'll prob try that next time. Hubs sandwich was perfect for him and he said the rolls were very good. OH and he got fries with his sandwich, so so good, the tasty crunchy kind. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and kept our coffee hot, the rest of the staff was also super pleasant and made for a nice breakfast spot. I will definitely be back here---happy to support tiny local joints that treat you good and make awesome food. read more

This is just a down to earth, classic, old school diner. No bells and whistles, but good service. Everything I've ever ordered there was to my liking - and the food always came much quicker than expected. The owner is there and often greets each Customer. You can tell that many locals come and enjoy a meal or sit around at the counter and chat. Just gives you a warm feeling. read more

I really enjoy coming to your Diner the prices are very average but the service is good and the food is good. However speaking of prices I must disagree with the price I was charged for a cup of milk $2.75 I thought that was too extravagant for approximately 10 oz of milk. You should really do something about that price or give more per serving. read more
