Diners are defined as small, owner-operated eateries with wide-ranging menus that typically feature affordable American fares like burgers, sandwiches, fries, and every type of omelet under the sun. There's something for everyone, whether one's looking for a hearty breakfast, a quick lunch, or a simple cup of coffee. The Garden State is widely considered the diner capital of the world, boasting more than 450 within its borders. While many diners have changed with the times, several of New Jersey's classic spots still sport that recognizable look today, complete with neon signage that hearkens back to mid-century America.  Located in Pompton Plains off of Route 23 North, this fabulous establishment has everything one wants, from amazing service to great food. My partner and I decided to pay Pompton Queen Diner a visit for dinner for the first time since last summer. I was greeted by the host, and despite how packed the diner was upon arrival, they'll take one's cell # and then text when the table is ready. The wait was never too long--about 15 minutes.  Their menu remains never-ending, and even the pickiest of eaters will find something on the menu to order. We decided on the Chicken Pot Pie accompanied by House Salad with Salami as well as Bronzino & Shrimp Francaise with Italian Sausage Soup.  The food was tasty, well seasoned, and arrived hot. Portions were large. We had a nice server, Randall, who was attentive and accommodating. The price was comparable to the area.  Another great dining experience!

Loved it! Fantastic food. Great flavor- incredibly fresh tasting and giant portions. I grew up nearby and started going to "PQ" as we called it in the old days in the 1980s. The decor has certainly changed but nothing else has. The staff is very nice, and the food cannot be beat. Love it when we are passing through the area, we always make it a point to go back to our favorite NJ Diner- Pompton Queen!

Stopped by one of my favorite diners, The Pompton Queen Diner, and it was fantastic as always! I was welcomed and seated right away, which is always a great start. The diner has that classic, well-decorated vibe that makes you feel right at home. There's plenty of seating too--everything from counter seats to cozy booths and tables that can easily accommodate larger groups. The menu is huge and packed with options, from breakfast favorites to hearty diner classics. And let's talk about the dessert case--it's absolutely unbelievable! Every single dessert looked incredible. Honestly, I'd love to try them all. My mouth is still watering just thinking about it. One look and you'll see exactly what I mean! I ordered the PQ Philly Steak: grilled and chopped Certified Angus beef with sweet, colorful peppers, grilled onions, and melted mozzarella on a long roll. It was cooked to perfection and served in a generous portion. The French fries were hot, fresh, and just the right amount of crispy--exactly how diner fries should be. Our server was incredibly friendly and sweet. She asked if I was from the area and whether I'd been there before. When I told her I had but it had been a while, she welcomed me back with a big smile. She checked in often and kept my water glass full the entire time--great service all around. Another great dining experience at The Pompton Queen--never disappointing! If you're anywhere in the area, this spot is definitely worth a visit. I already can't wait to come back... those disco fries are calling my name! And if you're from New Jersey, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Went through today for the first time for breakfast after an appointment and Wayne and I got to tell you we were alone away. I got the turkey sausage and they give you three patties. The eggs from my wife had the Western omelette and our waitress. Lindianni was incredible.

Stopped by Pompton Queen Diner for a casual meal and had a decent experience overall. The portions were generous and everything came out hot and nicely presented, though the dishes leaned a bit mild in flavor. Nothing bad -- just could've used a little more seasoning. The service was the highlight. Friendly, attentive staff and quick turnaround on the food. The ambiance is classic diner style -- comfortable and laid-back, but pretty standard. Overall, a solid spot with great service.

Excellent food, excellent service, god-tier diner cheesecake. We got burgers, and mine was a classic deluxe. The burger sauce had a nice Smokey quality to it. The sweet potato fries were DIVINE YALL. Their dipping sauces all tasted homemade -- I got the honey mustard to go with the sweet potato fries and wow I'm drooling just thinking about it now. We got the kids portion of linguine and meatballs for my son but with penne. The portion was MASSIVE. The meatball was seasoned so well and had a flavor nostalgic of kofta. It was also stuffed with cheese!! We asked them to add spinach and they happily obliged. My husband's burger was the chimi-jalapeno burger. I'm not going to lie, I didn't like it. But it was EXTREMELY juicy. Check out the picture. Disco fries not notable but massive portion. Ok now the cheesecake. I just got a plain slice. This was last night. I'm going back again today for another slice. Tomorrow? Who's to say? Life is short.

We came in at 2pm on a Sunday, you'd think the breakfast rush would be ending but nope, there was still a wait but we ended up waiting and it took less time than they said so that's good at least! They have a good system doing too with text notifications. I started with a hot chocolate that was pretty damn good. Then for some reason I was craving mozzarella sticks and pancakes lol. The mozzarella sticks were okay, the dipping sauce wasn't that good. The star of the meal was definitely those pancakes, really good and lovely berry flavor! Just missed some of the promised powdered sugar on top. The toast was toast so that was also fine lol. Glad to find out there are still good pancakes at diners. Only wished there were some toppings!

I am one of those people who once awake have trouble falling back to sleep. I do not fight it anymore, I get up and do some computer work or watch a news channel. The Pompton Queen opens at 7 am and I was sitting in the parking lot at 6:45 am waiting for them to open. Needless to say that seating was not a problem. They have counter, bench and table seating available. I chose the counter. Their menu is 11 pages long which I find daunting but eventually settled on one of my favorites "CREPES". I like them sweet or savory. Their menu has three breakfast crepe choices. I gravitate toward the sweet in the morning so I went with the "Triple Berry Crepe" ($14). Select English creme, strawberries,, blackberries and blueberries topped with whipped cream make up the dish. I like my crepes to be somewhat soft which they were. Hard overcooked crepes are a real turn off. The one star deduction was because of the overpriced cup of coffee ($3.5).

We've been going to the Pompton Queen diner for many years now. The ambiance is that of your typical NJ diner... sumptuous cakes and pastries tempting you from a glass case, seating area up front for waiting customers, and a huge menu to satisfy any hunger. They also have a full liquor bar for late night bites. The service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the chorizo omelet and my dad got the Taylor ham and egg sammich. Both were very good, and the coffee was good as well. I will continue to return to this diner when I'm back in town.

My wife and I were in the area and decided to visit this diner on a recommendation from someone locally. Well, on. Friday late morning, the place was jammed packed and we're able to get 2 counter stools. An extensive menu with many options, we decided to split an order on Short Stack Pancakes , an Uncle Harry secret recipe. They were definitely not your normal pancakes and delicious. We also order a very large Blueberry Muffins which we had toasted and buttered. Again great freshness and flavor. Lucas coffee sealed the deal. Overall 5 out of 5! And the interior ambiance very clean and modern.

One of my favorite diners in the area. I don't think I've ever been disappointed going here. My go to is a chicken parm wrap even though could use a touch more sauce or they should put some on the side. Service is typical of a NJ diner and comes in reasonable amount of time. Their honey mustard is one of my favorites!

    Look at that spread!

Hands down the best diner around! We drive quite a distance to go there but it is worth it even when there are long waits.

Ask the Community - Pompton Queen Diner

Do they have strawberry shortcake slices or whole cakes? We used to get them from another local diner but I think they fired their baker since Covid so we are hoping to find something as good. Thank you.

For cakes in general they have whole and slices however i have not seen strawberry shortcake during my visits there. Only strawberry cheesecake.

[Blowing on my nails.] The menu is a mix of American comfort food and gastropub classics, but with flair, and has a bit of everything to satisfy different palates. Our eyes were probably bigger than our stomachs as we ordered 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 2 cocktails, and it was an enormous amount of food. The portions are definitely what you'd call hearty, and everything was very tasty. Thursdays are all day happy hour so we picked the fried calamari appetizer at the HH price (still a full and generous plate and didn't seem like a downsized version) which were tender and well-battered, as well as the hot honey wings which were meaty and substantial. The short rib parpadelle with housemade pasta and a perfectly medium-rare, well seasoned hanger steak with truffle fries completed our satisfying and belly-stuffing meal. The cocktails are serious as well - the presence of a drink with egg white is my personal litmus test for a bar that knows what it's doing, so the Thyme to Bloom special had my name on it. I'm salivating just looking at photos of dishes I didn't order, and am already plotting my return!
