Although I have been to this diner a lot this is the first time that I have to write a very negative review. 5 nights ago my hubby and I were in the diner and I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on rye toast with lettuce. tomato and onion. I asked them to make sure to add the onion. Yes, the sandwich was good but they charged me $1.00 for the onion. When I went to them about this charge, they told me that the sandwich only comes with lettuce and the waiter forgot to charge me for the tomato and that the onion charge was correct. Needless to say I am not going g back!!!! read more

Been here a few times. Good friendly service. Food is good. Nothing special. Only problem that I had was a looking closely at bill. Charged 4.00 each for fountain drinks. All other diners 2.50 to 3.00. Also got dinner that came with 2 sides. Got potato and spinach. Server asked if I wanted spinach steamed or sautéed. Said sautéed. Got tiny portion and was charged 2.00 additional. I guess this is a way to get extra money. Not happy. I don't like being nickel and dimed. Just lost a customer. read more

I love this diner...just wish it were closer. Wifey and I have been here 4-5 times and for some reason I never reviewed it. Last time we went, I had an omelet with ham, cheddar and spinach with grits and rye toast. I love grits - so if they are on the menu, I'm getting them. Wifey had the California omelette with avocado, scallions, tomato and cheddar with well done home fries and rye toast. Coffee was just ok...it was a new pot and seemed like it could have been a little stronger. Staff has always been friendly and service was pretty quick for how busy they were the past couple times there. On the road early in the morning on my way to kayaking on the Delaware river, I stopped at the Alps Diner, a family owned and operated business. Their promotion is "We have everything all day." Featuring itself as a retro-diner, it has red bucket seats and lots of chrome in it's interior. Like most diners in N.J., the menu is large offering everything from waffles to fish to burritos. Breakfast is served at 7 am followed by lunch and dinner. They have counter service, as well as, tables, and bucket seats. The faimly has been in the diner and catering business for more than 20 years. They offer online take-out and delivery. It is BYOB and they do not have a corkage fee. My usual breakfast is oatmeal with some type of fruit but on this day I had their 3 egg breakfast which came with hashbrowns, toasted and buttered rye bread and your choice of tea or coffee ($6.25). This diner offers value, large portion size, fresh ingredients,quality food and a large menu. If you are ever in New Jersey try this diner or one of the many other great diners in this state. read more

As my previous reviews attest, the food is superb. And they nske the best cole slaw anywhere. Service is excellent and courteous. I was a bit disappointed when they charged me $1 EACH, for a lettuce, tomato and onion slice, for my cheeseburger. So I paid an additional 37% for garnishes? And they also apparently add a fee, for credit payment. I'll think, before I go back. Things are tough for restaurants, but it's tough for consumers, too. Every dollar counts. read more

Ordered delivery tonight. What a disaster. Order was missing several items. I called and they told me that specialty burgers need to be ordered deluxe to come with fries. For 13.95 it should have included fries, like every other diner's specialty burgers do. Roll on burger was burnt beyond recognition. Also ordered an omelette that was supposed to have chorizo, it had maybe 4 pieces. Pickle they gave us was 2 thin slices. Every other diner gives 1/2 or a whole pickle. Never again. read more

The man who "greeted" us left us standing for over 20 minutes - although there were numerous seats available. Once seated a clearly over-worked server came to us and we placed our order. 25 minutes to get eggs and a wrap order. (Clearly not the server's fault). Food was terrible. Hollandaise sauce was definitely from a package. Luke warm. Potatoes in the side were greasy, cold and uneditable. Will not be going there again. Pretty solid breakfast. The blueberry pancake had about 50/50 fruit:batter ratio. Would have gone way easier on the berries. I was between the pork chops and a gyro, so I decided to order the pork chops. The pork chops came with a salad, side, and potato. I ordered the greek salad and a side of corn. The Greek salad was the best part of the meal. The dressing was tasty and the salad tasted fresh. Sadly, both the pork chops were thin and tasted as if they had been reheated. Once the Spindletop Diner, with Jenny Lind woodwork, then the Northsrar 23 with mauve & chrome modernism, then Burger Deluxe, with its eclectic menu and finally the FIRST Alps Diner that did not do well. But now, there's the NEW Alps Diner, with a great menu, outstanding service and quality food. Only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars, was the tight parking. That aside, I enjoyed their generous chef salad, which is probably the best I've had in this area. And I like their fresh, crispy cole slaw so much, I bought some to take home! Give Alps a try. We pride ourselves on going to so many different diners in NJ and we saw new management at Alps Diner while passing on rte23 and decided to stop for breakfast. We'll they didn't disappoint...as soon as we walked in we were treated like special guests.. They sat us fast ,place was immaculate waitress came right over..best part was the coffee was excellent and the food was great...plus they had grits which were great. And the best part the prices were really reasonable, When we were finished I believe the owner even came over and asked us if we wanted coffee... very hands on an great place. Went for breakfast over the weekend because we needed a change up from our regular spot. Well, the place was nearly empty of patrons which was an immediate red flag. Our waitress was also quite chatty lingering around our table trying to make small talk with us which was another red flag.
