This is my second review of this establishment. In my initial review, I had issues with the burger being overly soft, the fries being unseasoned and cold, and an unpleasant oil taste. However, this review is not about that experience. Let's start with the service. I placed my order with John, who was pleasant and easy to deal with. After speaking with the owner on Yelp, he suggested that some of my original issues may have been due to the timing and the fact that my order was delivered, which could have affected the quality. Taking that into account, I ordered the same item again. This time, the service was good, and I got home with the food piping hot. The issue I previously had with the burger does seem to have been caused by delivery time, as it was much better this time around. Unfortunately, the fries were just as disappointing. They were cold as soon as I opened the packaging, though at least they didn't have the old oil taste this time. Instead, it was very obvious they were frozen fries--confirmed by the presence of a plastic bag of frozen fries. They were again unseasoned, not even lightly salted, and somehow managed to be both cold and burnt at the same time. One thing that concerned me was the staffing. There were four employees present, but only two seemed to actually be working. John appeared to be leading things and taking orders, and there was someone cooking. One employee in a beanie seemed mostly idle, though I overheard something about deliveries, so I assume he may have been the delivery driver. Another employee, who looked around my age, didn't appear to be doing anything at all. That was a bit concerning. Overall, I updated my original rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. It was fine, but nothing impressive. If I were rating it out of 10, I'd give it a 4/10. The burger was good in terms of softness, but the onion rings and bacon lacked the crunch I was expecting. They were mostly soggy, though still an improvement compared to my first experience. The burger patty itself, without toppings, tasted dense and brick-like. If the fries had been good, I honestly would've rated this closer to a 7/10. However, I had to dock several points because I don't understand how fries can be both burnt and cold at the same time, nor how the quality managed to decline further between visits--from tasting like old oil to tasting unmistakably frozen and completely unseasoned. If I'm in the area, I might stop by for the burger alone, but even then I'd have to be in a very specific mood. The most disappointing part is that the owner personally encouraged me to give it another try. While one issue from my original visit was resolved, the fries somehow got worse. I know I'm ranting about the fries, but honestly--how do you mess up fries this badly? read more

Munchy's is the king of fat sandwiches in North Jersey. I've tried a bunch of places and nothing hits like this. The Royal Flush is hands down the best sandwich on the menu. Everything is stacked right, it holds together better than most, and the flavor balance is perfect. You get crispy, savory, melty, salty, all in one bite. Every time. I drive about 12 miles to get here which says a lot. It also happens to fall right between home and work so it's become my go-to detour on Fridays. Early lunch stop or mid-shift reset, it never disappoints. Portions are legit and they don't skimp on fillings. You're full but not destroyed. The spot has that Jersey counter-shop feel. Order, grab a seat if there's one open, or take it to go and wreck it in your car. Either way the food travels well and the quality doesn't drop off. There is limited space inside to enjoy the freshest bite but tables revolve quickly. If you're into fat sandwiches or never had one done right, this is the place. Real ingredients, no shortcuts, every sandwich feels like someone actually cared about stacking it right. Easily five stars. Worth the drive. Worth the mess. read more

I was looking for a vegan or vegetarian option so I figured I would check them out to see what they have. I tried calling but nobody answered the phone. It's a small place that does mostly take out and gets busy. There's a few spots for you to sit and eat. I tried the vegetable quesadillas and they were pretty good. Putting black beans in them was a little weird but whatever. I can appreciate that the are using aluminum containers that are 100% recyclable but I'm not a fan of all this plastic. This plastic isn't recyclable and will end up being incinerated, take up space in our landfills or in our water. I won't be going back because I don't think having a meal should introduce all this junk into our environment. There are alternative containers and utensils. Maybe I'll go back and try their vegetable tacos if I can get them without the plastic. read more

Munchy's - appropriately named because this place is a godsend for those with the munchies. Their menu is huuuge and diverse, from milkshakes to burritos to breakfast & fat sandwiches they literally have it all. Same thing goes for their candy/chips and drink selection. They even had their own brand of birch beer and lemonade. They had drinks I forgot existed. I really enjoyed the curly fries and side of nuggets. Both were super crispy. Their Buffalo sauce was also perfect, like I wanted a tub full of it after. My bf really liked his chicken parm sub, it was a good portion for a pretty good price. The perfect place for the munchies. If you're like me and search for late night food for a reasonable price, it is hard to overlook Munchy's. I've ordered a couple times from here and have had generally good experiences. They have a wide array of food choices ranging from cheesesteaks to enchiladas. Some of my favorites include their "Famous Mudslide" and the Italian style hotdog. While the food isn't Michelin-star quality, I would say that the quality is perfectly fine for the intent of the business. Whenever I just want a quick fix without having to spend $40+ dollars, Munchy's is my spot. The portion size is great, they are open late, and I don't have to break the bank. Enjoy! read more

Usually I have a number of stars in mind when I start my review. This time, I'm going to write and see what happens. Munchy's is a fat sandwich joint, but it's also a neighborhood comfort food joint dating back before fat sandwiches were things. They still have other food like wings and regular sandwiches, as if anyone cares about regular sandwiches. I think I ended up with the Royal Flush. I just knew that I wanted a large quantity of hot fat food, and I got plenty of it piled up in two foil-wrapped halves. I did not wait. I ripped right in, and got that rush of average quality foods of all different varieties in my mouth. Nothing exceptional here, but perhaps a half-step better than Fatty's in Morristown. I think Munchy's has a few things going for it: homegrown character over 30 years of existence, much wider variety than just the fat stuff, food is cooked up fresh on the griddle (is that the right term?), and very customizable. On the other hand, it's not cheap, although you do get a good portion. My friend enjoyed his bacon cheeseburger well enough. So I'm at about 3.5 stars, which is right where Munchy's is averaging on Yelp. Let's go to the tiebreaker - the disco fries. Beef gravy seemed a little on the cheap side, and the cheese was American. If you're looking for fat sandwiches this is the place to go. I got the #12- Royal Flush and my boyfriend had the #13- the god father. Both were SO good! Mine had cheesesteak and I was surprised how good the steak was. Both were super cheese and filling. For $9.50/$10.50 it's a pretty good. These sandwiches were better in both price and taste compared to Cars in Montclair/Ramsey. Will definitely be back to try something new. read more

Looked like it had the potential to be a good little hole in the wall place, but I should have kept driving. Seven card stud sandwich was like eating cardboard, dry as could be event with the pasty gravy. I've never been to this place but I've ordered food for delivery enough times to know I LIKE IT! It always sounds busy when I call. Delivery doesn't usually seem to take long. Somewhere around 20-30 mins (give or take a few mins). The order has always been correct. Even when I make additions. My first experience I ordered something not realizing it was a sandwich & it was delivered while I was taking a nap. Once I woke up of course it was cold & cold fries on a sandwich-no good. However I gave them another chance. When I'm craving a good ole juicy burger or disco fries (which they call a mudslide) this is my current go to. So much so I need to lay off for awhile. My burgers are always cool through. One time there was a little pink....nothing the microwave couldn't zap out! The food has always tasted great, been hot & reasonably priced for the portion size! Spoke to someone at the restaurant and they didnt really seem to care, they said the driver text and called me, that is untrue. How about ringing my doorbell as it says in the delivery instructions? Ok. So it was late for dinner and I was HUNGRY! So, I driving down rt 23 (Pompton Tpk) after a night of very restricted shoe shopping (I was looking for snow boots ONLY). The three guys behind the counter were pretty funny and joking around with me and each other. The decor was simple. It was a small place and only had about 2 small tables and high counter overlooking rt 23. It was a nice mix of candy store and restaurant. They had gummy hot dogs and Big Time Chew bubble gum. And candy bars and 5-hour energies and gum and tic tacs. They also had a nice selection of teas right next to the coffee machine (it was late so it was clean). I drove home after spending about $9 (I got some gummy hot dogs. Lol). Now on to the food. I sit in my couch and turn the tv on and guess what's on? Dirty Dancing Havana Nights. Rofl! I figured a Hispanic theme movie for my Hispanic dinner. Lol. I would like to say I was impressed, but I wasn't. Someone said they were messy. And boy were they ever!! There was sauce everywhere and the chicken burrito wasn't really rolled up. It was more like a big taco, folded over the meat. I want my Mexican things to have fire, heat, color! The only color on my platter was the black beans on top. The beef was more flavorful than the chicken. But it still needed something. It was like it needed color again. I will go back here and try the burgers and their Dealer's Choice sandwiches. Next time, I should know that neon doesn't mean anything when it comes to tacos. I've been driving past Munchy's for literally decades and never considered stopping in. Recently, one of my coworkers wanted to try it for delivery and I was pretty impressed. I don't really eat junk food so I ordered a garden salad topped with egg salad. A very nice variety of fresh dark crisp greens, tomatoes and onions. No iceberg lettuce at all, thank you. The egg salad was super fresh and tasted like it was made to order. My coworkers reported that the burgers were outstanding. The hot dogs looked pretty good as well. Ok, the Tex-Mex offerings are certainly not authentic. Burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc. But they are filling, tasty and super cheap. All in all Munchy's is a great lunch spot.
