Not long ago, Brevard was inundated with Mexican restaurants. Some were good, but most had the unfortunate reality of being staffed by chauvinistic bilingual waiters who made crude, sexual comments about unsuspecting patrons. What I like about Plaza Garabalbi is the family atmosphere. The owner will come to your table and ask about your day with genuine interest. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. When I was dressed up for a job interview once, my cashier gave me a free peppermint patty for luck. Little things like that mean a lot. I have never had to wait for a table no matter what time of day or how busy they were and the food has always been excellent. The decor is standard (paintings of rural Hispanic life, sombreros, mexican flags, futbol on the wide screens) and the expected mariachi music plays, but I enjoy the familiarity and comfort of PG. They just added some intricate carved wood tables to the bar dining area, so that will definitely set them further apart from the rest of the pack. Sink your teeth into a chicken - chorizo platter and feel like you are dining in a home away from home just north of the Southernmost border. It may not be your idea of fine Mexican dining, but everything about PG is just fine with me. read more

Four of us met up here for lunch and we all had Lunch Specials . Everything was great. They have a very extended Salsa bar with quite a few salsas and Pico De Gallo. They have Pickled Jalapeños and Carrots. Prices were very reasonable. This is a family run business and they all take pride in their place. We stopped here after attending a semi-final high school BB game in Rosman, NC. We were the only customers, it was just before closing on a week night. The chips were crisp, the salsa was hot. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Very good food, very reasonable prices and extremely large portions, even on the smaller lunch menu. Been there three times and it's always consistent. Lots of choices on the menu. The service is usually good but there was an off night. Parking is on the street or in the lot a few doors down. You won't go away hungry. read more

The salsa/condiment bar is amazing. All homemade, zesty and spicy sauces. The "Alambres" dish was unique and delicious. Mexican beef, bacon, roasted green peppers and onions, mushrooms, avocado, and salsa. Add the spicy salsas with a few corn tortillas and...BAM! Great dish, but a lot of food. Nice little family owned place. I ordered the chicken nachos and would have loved it if it has a little less cheese sauce, and more chicken. I was expecting fajita quality chicken, but this resembled small stringy chicken that you'd find in Chinese Lo Mein. Also, wayyy too much nacho sauce. My favorite Mexican restaurant in the world. Family owned, originally called 3 Cabellaros run by 3 brothers in Cedar Mountain. Now run by Jose and his wife and daughter on Main street in Brevard. I have had almost everything on the menu in the past decade and never had a bad meal. Great service and prices, most checks for dinner for 2 is under $25 with tip. Give my regards. read more

Despite the general attention on the COVID situation across NC, and a sign indicating that Garibaldi has a "96" favorable covid rating (however that is determined), this is not the behavior in the restaurant that we saw. The "bus girl" who sat us and took our drink order did not wear a mask until we asked, and the owner/manager who took our food order also failed to wear a mask, although he did like to get right up in our faces. It is clear that the owner, managers, and employees take great pride in their establishment, and the whole restaurant is bright, colorful, and very clean. I live in Brevard, and this is my favorite restaurant. It's not the fanciest, but if you want good un-pretentious food, this is the place for you. The most authentic Mexican food in the area hands down, the food is very good, prices are excellent, and most importantly the service is fast and super friendly. You can't beat this family owned and operated place. Dining room is clean and spacious. Kid friendly. Clean bathrooms. I highly recommend the Chori Pollo for lunch, wow that's good! During COVID-19, I did a take out order for my family. Even with a 30 minute drive home, the dinner was excellent. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. What a disappointment. I don't understand all of the good reviews. We only went here because of the reviews. First, you go in and seat yourself and had to be told because there was no sign. We told our server our drink order to have another person come back later and get it again because the other person wasn't our server and already forgot. Our server brought one of us an unknown beverage instead of a Jarritos while accurately brought the other a Jarrito. Upon ordering we repeated that we wanted the tostaguac twice while the server nodded. The food came out quickly but the tostaguac were tostadas, which was probably for the better. The super nachos were a joke. The guacamole was gross, the nachos were small and unseasoned, lacked cheese while having a super runny cheese sauce UNDERNEATH the nachos. There weren't even enough tortilla chips, maybe 12? And the toppings were not generous. The stuffed poblano was gross. Like it was fried the day before, refrigerated and then reheated in a microwave. The sauce was like a marinara, weird. The salsa that is complimentary is canned tomatoes, most definitely. You're also supposed know that the cashier has your check already and you pay up front when you're done. The only good thing about his restaurant is that they carry Valentina hot sauce. From the outside it looks like a run-of-the-mill Mexican joint, but the true Garibaldi's is much more. The service here is its best attribute. I tried to leave 2 stars and my family yelled "no 1 star!" Puzzled how this has 4+ stars. My daughter got a quesadilla that was ice cold. Cheese not melted at all but strangely took 10 minutes longer than everything else. My husband got the SPL burrito which was nothing like described and was covered in queso but not in a good way. They aren't serving alcohol currently for unknown reasons to do with license. I'm the only one who wanted a beer and my family was like we should have left when they didn't have alcohol. Best Mexican restaurant in town, and we've tried them all. Their chips and salsa are made fresh by the owner every day and are soooooo good! They have several different salsas on their bar and my husband likes them all! Sometimes the service takes a little extra time because the owner says he has a hard time getting help, but that just gives more time to eat chips and salsa!! Jose' is the owner. SO, with that being said, this review is also in response to the tourist from Georgia, named Jeffery, who visited our community, and left the extremely negative review on the same evening as I am typing this. The facts to this story aren't stated in the review, and the vulgarity of the situation was nothing as described. It's funny how you left out the instances of you returning to the restaurant to harass the restaurant owner as well as its employees, issuing verbal threats of posting a negative review on Yelp. The waitress TOLD you that the food would be delayed, and apologized. She ALSO offered to get you something else from the menu on the house, to compensate for the delay, which you denied. So instead, they added wings to your order out of courtesy. Your daughter ate ALL but one of the wings, which she enjoyed after the waitress returned and asked how they were, and your daughter enthusiastically responded by saying how great they were. So why should the restaurant eat the cost of those wings that your daughter ate and enjoyed, because you're too short tempered an ill-mannered to own up to the bill, and accept the wait that the waitress explained and apologized for? (GREAT example for your kids, btw.) Here's the deal, we are a fantastic little town full of hardworking, small business owners, supporting their families and trying to earn livings. We don't enjoy your negativity, and we really don't appreciate you bashing our businesses on websites such as this, trying to destroy our livelihoods. With that being said, you can take your BS review, and "blow smoke" all the way back down to Georgia where you can kindly stay. What a fantastic find!!! If you like Mexican food and you are near by... YOU HAVE TO VISIT!!! My wife ordered the Chori Pollo ($8). It was an incredibly delectable blend of grilled chicken, onions, mushrooms, poblano peppers, and chorizo in a cheesy sauce. Served with rice, beans and flour tortillas. I ordered a chicken breast cooked with mushrooms in a tantalizing green salsa ($9.50). My son ordered the kids burrito and taco ($5) that could be enough for some adults. To top this off, they have a salsa bar with some amazing salsas to nibble on while you wait. This is a 5 star, must try establishment!!! read more
