Tenango's is our "go-to" place for Mexican cuisine. The food is always delicious and the service top notch. Our Server, Minerva, went above and beyond to see that we had everything we needed. Greeted with a warm smile and brought our drinks quickly. Was patient with us as we looked over the menu to decide what incredible dish we would order tonight! Recommend Tenango's above all other in the area! read more

We Came here the other night and it was delicious!! Don't let that it is attached to a gas station steer you away. The bean dip was so good and cheesy. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and it was the best I have had in the south. The meat had tons of flavor and the portion was huge. We want to come back next time we are up that way. So good--it's a must stop if in the area. read more

We were in the area camping for July 4th and decided we couldn't go another day without queso. Yelp recommended Tenango's so we jumped in the car immediately. We had such a great experience! We were immediately seated, and our waiter, Ronald, was super quick at getting our drinks and queso. We took a bit to decide on food because honestly, everything looked great! Each of us ordered something different, which were all delicious! There is also a little salsa bar in the middle of the restaurant so we enjoyed several salsas as well as our meals. The portions were HUGE (at least 2 meals for me) and so so good! Definitely recommend! read more

The food here is so delicious and big portions, service is good too! We will definitely be get back here. The nachos are amazing!

This place is so good! It's some of the most flavorful Mexican food I've had locally. The puffy tacos are so good and the portion is 2 meals. The choripollo is also a family favorite! We got it for pickup and it was still warm and good at home. read more

Absolutely the best Mexican food I've ever had. Authentic and tasting homemade is the only way to describe this food. Attentive and great service. Portions were huge and the prices were reasonable. read more

What a unique experience!!! Today was the opening of TENANGO'S Mexican Restaurant in Flat Rock (near Upward and I26). I've been waiting for the restaurant to open as they had something on their menu that I've rarely seen outside of San Antonio, TX--puffy tacos! The tacos (in the photo with the guacamole) were excellent--something to try if you've never had one. My husband had their Enchiladas Ranchero and a friend of ours had the Poblano Shrimp Tacos. The food was very good; the margaritas excellent (and priced well); the service quick; and the staff (including the manager and owner who each approached us to ask about our dinners) were friendly. Finally, and I'm sure they only had them for their grand opening, we were fortunate to be serenaded by an outstanding mariachi band. If you consider stopping here on your next excursion for Mexican food, you won't be disappointed . . . read more

Excellent food and service at this location! Location was very clean and organized, with plenty of TVs and the music at just the right volume. The atmosphere was enjoyable, and the staff provided a great experience. I will definitely be visiting this location again soon! read more

Recommended by a local while we were in Flat Rock. Our waitress messed up our drink orders more than once and our meal order was messed up as well. When you sit down you are served chips and a bean dip ‍. It was okay, but not what I want in a Mexican restaurant. After asking the waitress for salsa, she directed us to the ' salsa bar'. The red sauce was tomatoey, but the green salsa was good. When the meal arrived, there were no tortillas for the fajitas. After asking for the tortillas multiple times, we finally ate the fajitas without any. The fajitas were mediocre at best - a little tough and not much flavor. The Tenango salad was okay. Not sure I'll be back. read more

The food seamed like it would taste good if it weren't cold. Our server was nice but never anywhere to be found. My daughter's cheese dip had hardened by the time they brought us chips. I see why it was empty on a Saturday night read more

Tried this spot for opening weekend, and overall, it's a great addition to the area! The restaurant is bright, clean, and well-laid-out. It was packed with people for opening weekend, but didn't feel cramped. If you're sensitive to noise though or have children that are, the back room was pretty loud with multiple conversations and a TV at full volume. Onto the food! I had the puffy tacos, which were delicious. They were light, crispy shells filled with seasoned beef, lettuce, and diced tomatoes. The portion size is generous, and it comes with a hefty side of guacamole and rice. My only minor complaint is that the ground beef was a little saltier than I prefer, but it wasn't a dealbreaker. We also got the queso fundido with Mexican sausage, and it was fantastic. It was gooey, cheesy, and packed with savory flavor. The complimentary chips come with both salsa and bean dip. The salsa is super fresh, slightly spicy but more of a tongue-tingling heat rather than a deep burn, and I'm very sensitive to spice. Service was friendly, and despite the crowds, our food came out very quickly. Overall, I'd give it a solid 4/5 and will definitely be back! read more

I moved to the area from San Diego and FINALLY found authentic, delicious and real Mexican food. Great menu and delicious, well presented Justine. The decor and vibe is warm, friendly and authentic. I've had better and I've had way worse, it's just ok. The prices are about average compared to other Mexican Food Restaurants here in Hendo, portions are above average as well. Salas bar way under spiced, nothing super hot. We sat at the bar, the bar is self was too tall for the stools. I'm 5'11" my wife is 5'6" and her plate was about chin height for her and uncomfortable for me. I had the Maria Burrito, just average and the steak was like chewing rubber bands, chicken and shrimp were tasteless. Everything else had zero salt taste as well. You have to ask for extra napkins, you get the one your silverware is rolled in, zero napkin holds on the tables. Will I make a special trip back, no. Will I eat there again if I'm in the area, maybe. read more

Food was outstanding! Atmosphere was really nice. Service was spot on. What a wonderful find. We were visiting area in our Motorcoach. Was close by. Saw good reviews. First visit May 2025; second visit Sept 2025! I got the chicken chimichanga both times, which was delicious, and stuffed with shredded chicken. It came with a generous serving of rice, refried beans served in an edible crunchy shell, melty queso cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, & tomatoes. I can't remember what my husband ordered on our first visit, but this time, he got the taco plate, which was 3 crunchy chicken tacos, with shredded cheese & lettuce. His meal also included beans & rice. I think he wanted ground beef, but he didn't specify, nor was he asked. I guess our server assumed chicken, since I got the chicken. Twice, my husband was given diet soda, rather than what he ordered. Either the dispenser was labeled incorrectly, or it was a mistake, but TWICE? Restrooms were clean, decor was bright, atmosphere was good, tvs & music, but not too loud. Thank you for a good dining experience! read more

Service was great. Food was great. No waiting on a Saturday night, having a good time couldn't be better.

We are from Texas so to find great Tex-Mex in NC was a home run for us! In the two months we were there, I bet we went ten times! The salsa was delicious! read more

I had high expectations considering the majority positive reviews, and I could not have been more disappointed. There was not a single redeeming quality about my meal. Both my drink order and meal were served incorrectly and the service was poor. However, the most horrendous offense was there was absolutely no seasoning on anything. The vegetables were clearly just frozen vegetables that had been dumped out and the beans, rice, and meat had zero taste to them. I was really hoping this would be my new go-to but instead I will never come back to this location. read more

In WNC there are several Mexican Restaurants that should be very very aware that the BEST ONE HAS JUST ARRIVED! @ TENANGOS in Flat Rock. The idea of going somewhere new that you instantly feel at home and want to go back again for more (I already have) is now here in our community. Local owners bring a staff that CARES about your experience and will treat you like family. The spectacular vibes and look of the interior give you something else to enjoy other than the SATISFYING MEAL. I don't know them all by name, but Enrique, Christina and Bryan are all people you can count on!!!! From Host with the most to a bartender that fills a BIG BEER and a MEGA MARGARITA at the same time to a charismatic server that has a smile to brighten the whole room. You might make tacos at home, but what they bring to the table you will be wondering why you would try!!! read more

My family dined here during the grand opening, and it was absolutely delicious! We started with the cheese dip topped with chorizo for our appetizer, and it was packed with flavor! For our main courses, we had carne asada with rice and beans, a kids' cheeseburger, and a kids' beef enchilada. Everything was tender and juicy, bursting with taste! The experience was further enhanced by our wonderful waiter, Bryan, and the beautiful, welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back for more family dinners in the future! Worth the drive! read more
