Blue Agave has become one of our favorite local Mexican restaurants. We started visiting Blue Agave after the Covid pandemic since they were some of the first ones to open back up. Since then, we have made Blue Agave a monthly spot and even a place for celebrating special days. Blue Agave has a great space, big tables for large parties, and one of the friendliest staffs in the area. The menu is gigantic and has some dishes that can't be found at other local restaurants. I went here while on vacation away from my hometown of NJ and it was just ok. In NJ we have some pretty decent authentic Mexican places so my bar is set pretty high, so that may be why I'm so picky. Mexican food is my favorite food as well. I had the taco salad and it was alright, but lacked some flavor. It was very large in size though. The chips and dip was great and they had a salsa station to help yourself to different types of salsa. They served the complimentary chips with refried beans first which I loved. Service was good but nothing extraordinary. We did have to seek him out for the check. Overall I have not much to compare it with in NC but in NJ it wouldn't do as well. read more

All Mexican restaurants aren't the same. All have the same cross section items on the menu. Like some, maybe not others. This place checks all the boxes for a wonderful dining experience. This was our first time eating here. We came for dinner around 6pm and they sat us immediately. The food was fresh and delicious. We ordered the queso appetizer with chips which or course we ate way to many. Our food was out so fast it was scary. I ordered the fajita burrito which was delicious. My sister ordered the el pastor tacos and she wasn't able to eat all 3 and she raved about how good they tasted. For a Saturday night it wasn't too loud or busy. Overall great place to eat. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants, the service is always fast and very friendly, the food is great with large portions, and the price is right. blue agave has the staff in the whole world. they always work together & make it obvious that it's a team! everyone always says hello & is super genuine; making sure we're never missing anything. when it's not super busy, everything gets to our table fairly quickly! Lovely place. Very large. its a great place to take a large group. the service was friendly and quick. the sauce or topping bar was nice with the different flavors. It went from very mild to hotter than hot. the later was my favorite.The plate I tried was a combo platter with beef and cactus, and beans with rice.it was delicious. the group ordered a burrito, a chicken enchilada combo, and a pork plate. everything was good. they also brought out chips before the meal, they were hot, I love that. Besides everything being very tasty, when we asked for our bill another patron had paid it for us. that was so kind, I don't know who it was. just want to say a big thank you to her and her husband. that was so kind. Waited 1 hour with a 1/3 full restaurant only to receive some of the most mediocre & cold slop you could barely call Mexican food. I wasn't aware it was possible to mess up a quesadilla where a hungry child wouldn't eat it but they raised the bar on that one. Food finally came out and my Chile relleno had a huge hair it. First visit to this full service Mexican restaurant. It is minutes from the airport and the shopping on Airport Rd. Johnathan was our delightful server. He was attentive and helpful with the menu. We came for an early lunch so there were plenty of seats to choose from. It is quite a large dining area: perfect for large groups. Warm refried bean dip with chips was complementary. The menu is quite extensive. I had the Cubana sandwich which was huge. So many tasty elements. Was only able to eat the smaller half. I could easily be shared for two or three. My gal had the shrimp quesadilla which came with lettuce guacamole and sour cream. Again a large meal and tasty. Brought half home. Left room for a shared dish of flan. They have a good variety in their salsa bar including a salsa designated for children. The food was really good! Very surprised and delighted that I picked a random restaurant on the way to the Asheville airport. The salsa, queso and margs were a great start! Then the fajitas tasted delish! The meat and shrimp were perfectly cooked and all the onions and bell peppers were cooked perfectly. Our server was great! Name I think was Antonio! We happened to stop here on our way to the rodeo and let me say, that was a great decision! The food was delicious and plentiful. They bring you a bean dip with chips, it was very good. My husband ordered enchiladas and I had chimichangas, we each had an alcoholic beverage and the beer is good and cold and my margarita was great. They have a salsa bar which was very clean and well labeled. The service was great, the entire staff are super nice. There was no wait staff yelling, they all had ear pieces to communicate to each other which was so nice. The ambiance is heavy on the agave but it's in the name so I get it. We had heard encouraging rumors about Blue Agave, so we made an effort to find it. Still wanting to lose weight, I ordered only two side dishes - one cheese enchilada and grilled vegetables assuming it would a limited ration of each. It proved to be a full plate and I ate it all. Too good to postpone by taking any home. I don't recall what's-her-name choice but I do remember that she cleaned her plate. Recently ended up at Blue Agave after another local Mexican restaurant was closed for the night- what luck! It was great! We had a party of 6 and the service was superb. There was no wait and the food came out extremely quick- everything was fresh and well made. I ordered ACP - the chicken was juicy and flavorful with the right amount of sauce and rice. The cheese sauce has a slight spice to it- very good. The restaurant was clean and drinks stayed filled throughout the meal. Overall I was pleased and will return again! read more

It takes a lot for me to be upset over food and service after working in the industry for 6+ years. The food was almost inedible. We stayed in the hotel attached and thought it was so convenient to have a restaurant in it. We got the three tacos which none of them had any flavor or toppings. It was just meat on a tortilla. Poorly prepared meat... the refried beans were absolutely from a can. The only thing decent was the cheese dip we ordered which would have been fine if the chips to dip weren't 5 days old. You couldn't even eat the chips... I have no idea why this place is rated so great I have never been so disappointed in a meal in my entire life. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

What a wonderful little place to find! It was a little harder for us to find because we are not familiar with the Asheville area and we missed the turn for the restaurant twice, but SO GLAD we finally made it. This place is a MUST GO when in Asheville. We are originally from California, [now in Florida 25 years], that said, we know good Mexican food and Blue Agave is truly GREAT Mexican Food. I believe it is family owned and run, but either way, the service was DELIGHTFUL! The food was hot and delicious! I wish I could have eaten all that was served, but the portions are HUGE, so we ended up taking the balance of our dinner back to our rental cabin. My hubby really loved the walk-up salsa bar with so many choices, all of them wonderful. The decor in the restaurant is amazing. It's beautiful and authentic and really adds to the experience of dining at Blue Agave. Our food was cooked perfectly and I wish I could have eaten more, but as mentioned, the portions are huge. Make it a point to try Blue Agave! So delicious we can't wait to come back on our next visit to Asheville. read more

Totally found this spot on Yelp, and pulled up, we were a little taken back as it is in a dumpy hotel. I am glad the reviews were decent, else we would have been out of there. I am also glad we stayed, the young lady bartender makes a wickedly awesome margarita. Heavy poor makes mor one of the best margarita I have ever had. A very good sign is that, when we sat in the bar, everyone was Hispanic!!! We were the only ones speaking English, I knew I was in for a treat!!!! Five stars because service was awesome, the setting is perfect and everyone is super friendly and casual. The food is above average. We went with a shrimp chimichanga and a chicken chimichanga, both came out pretty quick and were fabulous. I order extra Queso cheese. The cheese is traditional creamy white and very good. Overall, don't let the location discourage you, it is really a great place with great prices!!!!! read more

This place was so bad it was funny. That and that it's Easter weekend (I'm in a forgiving spirit) is what is saving it from a one-star review. We had an hour to kill waiting on an inbound flight to AVL (it is convenient to the airport) so we decided to run in for a snack and a drink. We ordered the nachos grande. The toppings were skimpy and bland, but what doomed it was there was so much water in the toppings that the chips became a soggy mess. On to the drinks. I don't know what possessed me to order an avocado margarita, but I did. This thing is bizarre. Imagine sub-par guac tossed into a blender with cheap tequila and salsa. What you wind up with is something that's too thick to be a marg and too thin to be guac. It's the first time I've ever not finished a drink ;) They had a salsa bar, which is pretty surprising since we are still at least in the tail end of a covid epidemic. That in itself doesn't bother me as much as it probably does some people, but it does add a self-serve component to a sit-down restaurant and strikes me as a way to have the customers do some of the restaurant's work and still presumably expect a full tip. The service was lacking, although the staff was friendly enough. There were lots of families with small children (probably hotel guests) and the place was chaotic and noisy. Bottom line: There aren't many choices around this airport for an interesting restaurant (in fact none of which I am aware). This place is OK if you want chips and salsa and a beer or maybe a conventional marg. I wouldn't go there for anything else. We bailed out to the nearby Chili's which, while also disappointing, noses Blue Agave out. read more
