To celebrate Cinco de Mayo I was craving Mexican food. Someone recommended this place so decided to try it. Plenty of parking on both sides of building and the back. There are two main enterances through the front and back. The inside is the restaurant was decorated nice with Mexican decor all over which made it feel authentic. Now it was kind of loud with the music and people talking. So if you are wanting something intimate or romantic this is not the place. If you want something more family friendly this is your spot. They are good for big crowds. This place is slightly dark so people with vision disabilities you might want to bring someone who can help you navigate your way to the table. It is wheelchair accessible with plenty of room to get between the tables. There are no steps on the building, it is all flat ground. They also have a small bar area if that's what you are looking for along with a salsa bar that you can serve yourself. Now onto the food. I ordered the combination #1 which came with 1 hard shell taco, two enchiladas and rice OR beans. You have a choice of protein of ground beef, chicken, and I can't remember the other choices. I chose the beans and they were delicious. You can taste they put some kind of lard in them because the taste was familiar. I also chose chicken soft taco. To my surprise it came on a flour tortilla which was more like a small chicken burrito. I was hoping it would have been on corn. The taco was similar to taco bell and I wasn't impressed although the chicken on it was delicious. I also chose cheese enchiladas which come with red sauce. This I didn't like. Now I LOVE cheese but this was so much inside it was like eating a block of cheese. It was hard to cut and the sauce was like el torito sauce. Kind of thick. We also ordered #20 which came with a chalupa. Now I thought a taco bell chalupa but it was a tostada. Why they called it chalupa who knows. It had a hard shell taco but the shell was like taco bell. It wasn't a fried corn tortilla. It also had a enchilada which we got chicken and once again the chicken inside was good but that's about it. They have agua frescas and I got the Jamaica (hibiscus) and they don't charge for refills. They have outside seating for those with anxiety. It got pretty crowded towards the evening so come early if you're not into crowds. All in all I would be back to try other things. read more

My mother ordered food for takeout and sent me in to go get it. A tall guy workingthe front helped me out. he went to get my food, I paid and left. food wasn't ours. So I went right back in and he immediately started to be the biggest assh*le because he was wrong. i asked hey man can I at least get the food I'll wait it's no problem and he just shook his head violently. I said I can't order? And he said " no I give money back and you leave. he points to the bag of food when I ask why I can't order and says "now I have to waste this order". maaan I was HOT for a second. Always looked busy so I thought I'd try it on Thursday afternoon. None of the staff looked happy to be working and didn't get a smile from anyone. Nevertheless said at the bar, had a beer and cheese enchiladas and a chili relleno. Chips and salsa we're OK and they have a salsa bar with different options. Cheese wasn't even melted in the enchiladas and the chili relleno had the exact same sauce. Would be nice at least to have a least a different tasting sauce. It didn't surprise me when no one even asked how the meal was. Won't waste my time again, you'll find me at Cantina Louie where the staff and food are always great. read more

I've been here numerous times and this is a really good Mexican restaurant in South Asheville. It's one all the locals go to and the food is solid. The service is quick. They really make great Horchata as well... great sit down restaurant that doesn't take a lot of time. And the food is always on point and generous servings!!! read more

I wish I could say this was the "neighborhood" restaurant, but when I took my family to this establishment that was NOT the case. The "decor" was what you would find in any classy Latinx restaurante, sombreros, chilly peppers, burros; but the food was not "neighborly" in the least. Dry Acp and a "nachos" that were nothing more than microwaved cheese on chip with meat. To even have the authentica "thilantro" grace the "nacho del lah carretas" nacho was another several dollars. don't wast your time in this establishment, the nice latinx workers the the Taco Bell will fill the hole with Hispanic food that is currently empty. 2 stars. This Tex Mex restaurant is located in Asheville, NC right off hwy 25, located on the right side. They have plenty of free parking, plenty of seating and a bar. We were seated promptly and given menus. The waitress was slow the entire time, I had to ask for everything, even the bill. Customer service is lacking in all areas. The food is the standard Tex Mex food, I didn't see anything on the menu that was any different. The portions are large, meals are shareable. Our food came out hot and tasty. The food is authentic. The 3* is due to the customer service mainly, I just cant complement laziness in a work environment. Other than that, give them a chance if you are looking for some Tex Mex food. read more

I'm from Texas and this is the closest I have found to true Tex-Mex food in the area. The salsa is fresh and actually has a little kick, which is hard to find in NC. The food is always hot and comes out as I ordered it. The service is the best I have found in ANY of the Mexican restaurants I have been to since I moved here almost a year ago. $10 lunch in 2023 and it was great. The chips were crisp and tasty. The salsa was good and had a little hotness. I ordered a chimichanga with beans and lettuce, tomato and sour cream. We went for early dinner and each ordered the special dinner. It's was huge for only 16.99, we could've split one. The staff was friendly and the service was quick as expected at a traditional Mexican restaurant. The food was very good. The chips were fresh and not too hard and the salsa was spicy and fresh as well. I would recommend this restaurant for a quick traditional Mexican fare. We live nearby, eat here regularly. The male waitstaff could not be more rude, consistently. Perhaps the owner or maybe he's the Manager is the worse. I ordered takeout tonight and wanted salsa From their salsa bar. 1 small container. You would have thought it was gold. They made it difficult to get a lid and again we're just extremely rude. We got take out (obviously, it's 2020), and I would have to say it was spot on! The Special Dinner was as good as always and the Shrimp Veracruz was delicious! They also gave us a huge bag of chips and salsa, which was hot and fresh. Food is average at best. My wife is a light eater and asked server if she could order off of the child's menu. Server said that she could only to find out when we received our bill that everything was charged at the a la carte pricing which ended up being higher than the adult combination plate pricing. The price for the kids meal was $10 because she was older than 12 years. I understand the rule about kids meal and the age thing but it would have been nice to have known this at time of ordering because we would have probably order a combination plate with more food at a lower price. All that being said, it wasn't the cost or the value that upset me. It was the attitude of the staff that has changed this twice monthly patron to driving a little further down the road where the food is better and the staff knows the value of communicating and listening. Our favorite family Mexican restaurant for probably 15 years. Always friendly service and great food, and it's rare that we don't run into a friend or neighbor there. Take out is super quick, often ready soon after I drive there from my home nearby. I love the local high school student school I.D.s at checkout. Probably the worst service ever! Our waiter ignored us. He was busy flirting with a table full of women. We had empty glasses for more than 10 minutes. When the waiter finally brought my husband his beer, it was the wrong beer. He took it away and we watched a guy behind the bar drink it. Pretty sure that's illegal. I wish I could give La Carreta four and half stars , because it's not perfect, but the food is top notch. We were looking for someplace to eat on Rt. 25 in Asheville and saw the sign that said "Authentic Mexican Food", so we thought we'd try it. The parking lot was a little awkward, though plenty of spaces, and the atmosphere was a little touristy (didn't care for the overhead music), but there were two Latino families eating there so we were encouraged. Also the staff were all Mexican. We were wonderfully surprised. The menu was good as well as affordable. Right from the first this place was different. The salsa chips were lighter than other places as well as the dipping sauce. The food was fresh and seemed like it came right from a Mexican kitchen. As far as this New England city boy knows, this was authentic Mexican food. Not just Mexican food, but real good food. An easy on the stomach. I've given good marks to Mexican places before, but this place is better. Friendly service as well. We can't wait to bring or family here. They have lunch and dinner specials as well. read more
