I had such a great experience at Playtri Cycling! I brought in my used bike because I had taken the wheel off to fit it into my car and was worried I messed something up. I don't know much about bikes, so I called to see if I could bring it in. They inspected everything at no charge, were incredibly friendly, and never made me feel dumb for asking questions. They even adjusted the brakes I had accidentally messed up and took their time walking me through what they were doing. I've had good experience with the owner and the knowledge of the staff. However the last time I went in I waited 10 minutes without being acknowledged in a store with only two other customers. I gave up on the line I was in and approached the other employee who was talking to another customer and waited for while the employee As I stood there and they pretended not to know I was there for several minutes, I realized they were talking about inventory and it was two employees - not an employee and a customer. I had to interrupt in order to get their attention - I don't like being forced to be rude. Bad form guys. I worked retail and you don't treat a customer like that. At least acknowledge and say "one moment" You knew I was there, I knew you knew I was there, and you knew that I knew that you knew I was there. It was petty and unwarranted I won't be back. read more

I was asked to bring my bicycle in so they could examine it. After evaluation -- tires needed air and the handle bar needed new grips. They "recommended" a $120.00 tune up which on top of the the new grips + service fee ended up at a total of $183.00. Seemed a bit high but in this day and age, I am all about supporting local businesses and gave them the green light to proceed. The next day, I received a call informing me that the gear cable was in bad shape and another $25.00 required to fix it. I told them to forget it. I know most people will say it's only 25 bucks -- that's not the point. The point is they inspected the bike but didn't see that defective gear cable then? If they missed it during their inspection, what else have they missed? Bottom line is they inspected the bike and evaluated the cost of the repairs, they gave me a quote, I agreed to it, they did NOT fix the bike and they asked for more money. Shady and dishonest bunch of little swindlers seems like. read more

My husband came in to get his bicycle repaired and was given an estimate that was under $300. He got a call back the following day from the owner James saying that the repair estimate was now almost $700. My husband asked what the trade-in allowance would be if he wanted to buy a new bike from him two days later and two days later After following back up he was told the trade-in would be only $100 on a bike that cost originally $3500. Picked up the bike and took into Richardson Bike Mart got an estimate for the repair which was $194 which included a full service. It's very sad that there are businesses like this one taking advantage of the Covid-19 situation. I strongly advise against visiting this business. read more

Amazing job! Went in for a brake job. Surely enough I thought I'll be out soon and leave my bike at store. I walk in and the guy takes a look a my bike right away. He tells me my brakes still have padding and starts to clean the brake pads and discs. He then puts sealant on my tires. I rode my bike and it was good as new. In and out within 30 minutes. The price was reasonable as well. I was just impressed with the attention to detail and fast service. I recommend this spot. Will definitely be back. read more

I ordered a new $1,000+ Cannondale mountain bike from Playtri online. Playtri shipped it to me UPS with signature required. When the UPS driver arrived, and asked me to sign, I inspected the very large box and to my shock it said in large bold factory letters SCOTT mountain bike. They shipped the wrong bike from TX to NJ! I told the poor driver I'm not accepting the and he had to cart it back to his truck. I immediately called Playtri and told them what happened. They said, 'that's the correct right bike, we recycle our boxes, your Cannondale bike is inside that box'. I said why wouldn't you cross out massive SCOTT the name on the box????? I called UPS and the driver came back. Before I signed I opened the SCOTT box expecting to see a factory CANNONDALE box. There was not, it was the Cannondale bike disassembled inside of the SCOTT factory box. I signed for it. I started to assemble following the Cannondale factory online video. I took the packaging off and found that the bike dropper post was completely scratched, the cables were not routed properly, no manual or factory warranty card, nothing aligned, etc. Stay away from this company! read more

I discovered Playtri a couple of months ago and they have been very helpful in my cycling revival. I was looking for a local bike shop, and they are right here in The Colony. I had a tired old Fuji mtb that I was trying to keep going, and they helped me limp it along until I got tired of messing with it. I decided to go for a new mtb, and James was very helpful during that process, as I had a few models to choose from. I went with a Bianchi, and I'm very happy with it! I highly recommend this shop for your cycling needs, they may be smaller than some, but they have quality products and very knowledgeable and friendly staff. read more

My wife and son took me to this place to buy a bike for my birthday and this was the experience, lol. I see why this place has a crappy rating. James walks up, I asked him for a fast road bike but tell him that I'm a novice. He rolls his eyes and goes on to ask me 15 technical questions that could only be answered by an expert cyclist. I said, I'm sorry, I don't know, he huffs and puffs and picks up a bike and gives me basic information. I ask about maintenance, his response, I'm not riding every inch with you or know anything about intensity or roads, and that things don't last forever. I go on to tell him that I'll be riding once a week for about 20 miles on the road. He repeats himself and says things aren't finite. I go on to further explain myself that I'm an average rider wanting a nicer bike. He says, we shouldn't have to see you for 4-5 years. Went in for a blood lactate test to determine all of my proper zones. Morgan and Eric got me set up and did an amazing job of administering this test. When I left I was told to expect results in a couple of days and I got them that night. A top notch experience all the way around. The test is tough but well worth it. read more

First of all I'm a newly converted pandemic cyclist due to the closing of my local gym. I was in need of a bike repair and a quick search revealed this store was the closest and they were open I visited them twice for a seat repair for my Schwinn on each occasion I was assisted immediately by Gene (who I didn't know was the owner). During the 2nd visit when I revealed this was my 3rd Academy bike he chuckled and said some of their bikes are poorly built. So as I'm leaving the store for the 2nd time I head to Academy and return my 3rd bike and go right back to the store and purchase a Cannondale right out of the box. I returned to the store after my bike was built and purchased even more accessories from the manager James. Needless to say I had a few concerns about my new bike (again I'm a novice) and James was able to help a sister out. I went to Playtri after going to another bike store that was super busy and there was a line outside because of social distancing. I walked into Playtri and I told Jan about my situation about my pedal threads being stripped and I couldn't get the pedal on. She took my bike to the service area and the guys got it fixed in minute and they aired the tires. I decided that I needed some new grips and they put those on for me quickly as well. They only charged me for the grips and the installation of the grips. I thought that that was super cool . I'm not a biker but, withe the Corona going on it may be a more viable way to get exercise. Horrible, shady and unprofessional service! If I could give it zero it would have gotten it. I called here to purchase a free wheel tool and James who I assume is the manger or owner whom I spoke with checked his inventory and said I'm sorry we are all out of that tool, what do you need it for. I explained I was simply trying to unscrew the cassette on rear wheel, he responded oh ok just bring it by we will unscrew it. I said ok leaving in headed your way and I got there within 20 minutes and he went to lunch and left the store and his cashier in which I explained he would remove the wheel charged me 17 bucks to unscrew something. She even called him on lunch and instead of speaking with me or calling me about the charge he bamboozled me to pay him..Complete jerk for charging when in fact I simply wanted the tool which cost 12 bucks but acted as if he wasn't going to charge based on his statement...please avoid this place at all cost. Really nice shop. I just stopped by for Gu, but I ended up having to buy a nice shirt because the 50% off rack caught my eye. Too good to pass up. Super friendly staff. I talked to all 4 who were there that day. I was the only one in the shop at the time. Very nice, clean, modern, relatively new shop. They said they'd been open about a year and a half. Mostly very high-end stuff, like a lot of high-end road bikes, but some more basic stuff too. I don't know if all their shops are like this or if they're catering to the local clientele (The Colony and Austin Ranch having plenty of folks with money to spend on fun toys). I thought it was cool that they dealt used bikes, too. The mechanic was super nice - we seemed to have a lot of common opinions and views on life. All in all, very good experience. When my mountain bike needs work I can't handle next, I'll try this place out for repairs / maintenance. read more

We did not have a good experience at PlayTri when trying to get fitted for my bike. The female employee was not very nice and acted like she did not have enough time to do her job. Also, said she would charge me $100 not for the amount of work she would do on the bike, but for her "knowledge". It is a shame because I am doing my first sprint triathlon and I was planning on buying more gear here. I looked forward to supporting their business. Well, after this experience I will not support any PlayTri location in the DFW area or attend any of their classes. They have lost my business. I had a much better experience at Bicyles Plus in Allen and at Richardson Bike Mart. They both also understand the importance of training their employees on customer service and also by not acting rude and demeaning. Thanks, but no thanks PlayTri. read more

This review is LONG overdue! PlayTri is absolutely phenomenal! Ahmed and Staci (the owners) are amazing people with such great hearts. They simply love the sport of Triathlon and want to share it with people! Ahmed took several days and was so patient when helping me find the perfect fit bike for me. He let me ride several bikes and even brought some from other stores to make sure I was satisfied with my purchase. He gives you all the information and reasoning behind his suggestions so you can make the best decision and purchase for you. He even met me back at the store to get fitted and learn how to ride with clippin shoes. What amazing customer service, right?! Staci is beyond awesome! I have competed four PlayTri races this summer and all I can say is Staci knows how to put on a race! They have all of them have been great! Well organized, great support staff, safe, well marked courses, racing swag, and a lot of fun! PlayTri also has great staff. Everyone is so nice and happy to help.
