I was gifted an adult tricycle that needed to be assembled. I assembled it myself, but had trouble with some parts. I contacted Cadence Cyclery to come out to fix the chain and brakes. Damon exceeded my expectations! Not only did he make sure my trike was ready, he replaced a tire that had a busted inner tube, at no cost to me. He took his time to make sure all parts were working. I couldn't be more pleased. His prices were also reasonable. I would definitely recommend using their mobile service. Terrible customer service. I put a bicycle in for a tuneup and it required some new parts as well. I received a phone call and a text stating the bike was ready. So I went to pick the bike up, was told it was good to go, paid the $500 + bill, and only after I paid did they tell me the bike was unsafe to ride. They waited until after I paid to let me know my bike is unsafe to ride. There was a pre existing crack in the frame that I was not aware of. It is very seedy to knowingly let a customer pay for something they know to be unsafe. I tried to see if we could work out a deal to where I paid for the parts put onto the bike, or for any kind of resolution, knowing they did work on the bike. But, I was told it was not their problem. Per the owner's response: "The crack was found after the work was completed." Let that sink in. I paid for a "New Bike Feel" tune up package and the first thing of that service is (per Cadence's Website) a "Full bicycle strip down & overhaul of the frame (includes bottom bracket, hubs, & headset)." The location of the large crack was down on the bottom bracket. The second the front chain ring was pulled to service the frame and bottom bracket, the mechanic could clearly see the gouge and crack, work should have ceased on an unsafe frame, and I as the owner of the frame should have been notified in order to either approve any continued work, or to tell them not to waste their time servicing an unsafe bike I can no longer ride. However, we are being told the crack was found AFTER the work was completed. This tells me that one of three things has occurred: 1) At best the mechanic is inept and missed a clear safety concern while he was working on the bike (what else has been missed while servicing the community's bicycles?) 2) That they did not deliver on their promise to service the frame and bottom bracket and that is why the crack was missed until after the other parts were installed on the bike. Either way, they happily and greedily took my money. 3) This was an intentional act and they weaponized ignorance for a money grab by a seedy and greedy shop owner. Anytime I have dropped something off at a mechanic, whether it be a bicycle, my car, or even my lawnmower, the second a safety concern was found, I was notified of the matter for it to be addressed. I've even been told by mechanics that they will not work on my truck because it is too old, too worn out, and flat out too unsafe. I can respect that because it was honest and the shop was not going to let me waste my money. I paid for the work done because it was right and moved onto a new vehicle. However, here we have a shop that will either miss something completely and claim ignorance. Or, we have a shop that willfully and intentionally wastes your money knowing that they are working on an unsafe product you should not use. The shop claimed they called me (which is technically true), but I have a text stating the bike is ready for pickup and voicemail stating the same thing. Even when I was standing at the cash register, chatting with the sales associate, money in hand, I was not made aware of the issue. At no time was I made aware of the safety concerns until AFTER they wasted and took my money. One way or another, Cadence made a mistake and refused to own up to that mistake. This shop seems to only care about an issue AFTER they waste your hard earned money. I placed an order for a bike in this store and left a $200 deposit. About two hours later, I realized this purchase was not the right financial decision for me and called the store to cancel the order the same day and request a refund. The employee I spoke with said the owner was not in the store but that he would pass along the message. When I called again a day or two later to confirm the cancellation, I was told that the bike had already "shipped that same day" and that I would now be charged a 20% restocking fee. I explained that I had been calling since the same day the order was placed to cancel it, and that it usually takes time for a bike to even ship, let alone arrive. I made it clear that I should not be penalized for their failure to process a same-day cancellation. After going back and forth, they finally agreed to refund me $188, keeping $12 for "bank fees." I accepted this because it was the only way to get most of my money back, but the entire experience felt unnecessarily difficult and unfair. Had I not followed up, I strongly believe they would have waited until the bike arrived to force a much larger restocking fee. What's most disappointing is that if this had been handled professionally, I would absolutely have come back to purchase the bike I actually want. Instead, the way this was managed completely broke my trust, and I will not be returning. I would strongly advise anyone shopping here to get their cancellation and refund policy in writing and to be very careful before leaving a deposit. read more

Getting into a new sport is intimidating; I did some road cycling in my early 20s and haven't touched a bike until recently purchasing an old Giant mtb off fb marketplace. It wasn't until hitting the trails at Erwin Park that I realized my brake pads were really bad. I did take it on a test ride beforehand, but zipping down the trails gave me a different experience. Which takes us to my first visit to Cadence. I walked into the shop and was immediately greeted by the manager (I forgot his name) and he asked if he could help me with anything. I mentioned I needed brake pads. The bike I purchased has rim brakes and he grabbed the ones I needed and rang me up. I realize what I needed didn't require a lot of attention but his customer service was outstanding and he made me feel comfortable. My second visit to the shop was after a few rides and feeling how cheap my saddle was. I removed my seat post/saddle and took it in so I could get a price on a new set. I had someone else helping me this time, but he was just as attentive/courteous. He took my post to the back to measure it. Being an older bike, they didn't have my size in stock but he did order me an adapter which would allow the post they did have to fit my bike. The part came in less than a week later and I received a phone call telling me they were ready for pickup at my convenience. I picked it up and bolted them on as soon as I got home. It looks and feels amazing. I did spend more on the post/saddle than I did the bike but I'm somewhat attached to it and wanted to gradually update the bike until I'm ready to fully commit to a newer mtb which I will be purchasing from Cadence. I went in looking for brake pads and was treated like I was purchasing a full suspension bike. That's how you earn life long customers. I won't be going anywhere else for my bicycle needs. I do my own basic maintenance, but had been taking my bike in to have bigger stuff done. New to the area. As a former owner of a bike shop in California myself, I have to say the younger guys at the parts department really don't know much about small parts. I came in twice so far and the most basic parts, in this case, road inner brake cables should not be a big thing. I asked for two Shimano Road inner brake cables. The guy takes a long time to find them. He obviously didn't know what they are. But there's an older guy in the mechanic area that seems indifferent to the situation. The young man ended up giving me two mountain bike brake cables. I know this by the tip shape. I asked the kid hey this is a mountain bike type. Sometimes they have two types on both ends. So I asked is the road tip on the inside of the packet. He said yes. I paid over $25! Then before I left the shop I opened the package and it was the wrong type. I came back to the same kid and said this is not a "road" brake cable? He just looked at me quizzically and went and found the actual road brake cable, this time they were stainless steel instead of teflon coated. He gives them to me and try to send me off. I told him you owe me change? These cables should be cheaper than the teflon coated ones. He ended up give me $15 or so in change. I took the time to give this review because they took my time (wasted) on buying two basic road inner brake cables. I blame leadership on this. The kids are not supported and trained properly. read more

Kept bike longer than estimated. Did not fix the primary issue I brought bike in for. Put on a new chain without cleaning the front sprockets. Replaced my presta valve tubes with schrader valve tubes without consulting me. One of the tire valves left uncapped. Overall I was expecting much better but I will find another shop. Did the retul bike fit here with Eric. He is q true professional, found out that the bike was totally not properly set to my body and caused me numbness in my hands , pain in my shoulders. After adjusting the bike i felt a lot better less stressed and has more foot to pedal power and the numbness was practically gone. Eric also measured my feet and recommended insoles which made a world of difference. Who knew that proper insoles would greatly help eliminate the hot spots in my toes. Of you are doing over a hundred miles a week do yourself a favor and get fitted . Eric is the only one doing it here so you will be on good hands read more

I live right down the street, and I just got a new bike for my birthday. It was just a cruiser bike (I'm not a hardcore bike rider like the people who frequent and work at this place). We took it in on a Friday because my brakes were squealing, the seat was not feeling right, and a few of the lower gears weren't working properly. I did not get my bike from this place. It was a Walmart Schwinn bike, but it was my bike... And it was a gift that I loved. We took it in. The woman told us they'd have to look at it, but they'd keep it and call us Tuesday to come pick it up. She quoted us about $50. Totally fine with me to make sure my bike was safe. I got a phone call on Tuesday morning that my bike was ready. My girlfriend went up there to pick it up. She showed me the receipt later. Basically, whoever had written the comments on my receipt kept saying they did the best they could with the quality of parts my bike had on it. I feel someone could have addressed this with her when she came in to pick it up. They just gave it to her. I would have found it helpful if someone would have just told her this was as good as it gets. The receipt disappointed me. She got me the bike as a gift, and I feel they could have worded it nicer or just explained to her. We get it, the quality of parts isn't to the quality the bikes you sell are, but you don't need to write it on there multiple times. I paid $50... And I felt like I kind of got played there since you said there's nothing you can do. When I rode it again, the squealing was still so loud (like wake up babies loud). First gear still wasn't working properly. I sent them a message on Facebook because it said they respond in a few hours. Just wanted to know if my bike still squealing like this was normal. I never heard back from them even though it said read, so after a few days we rode the bike back up to the shop. Whoever my girlfriend ended up talking to in the shop was helpful though. They told her the paint on the wheels of my bike were causing the squealing (I had Googled about this earlier and figured that was the reasoning). Also, he said it would cost a bit of money to fix up the bike to get it to the condition I wanted it. The bike had good reviews online, but that is probably because people weren't riding it like me. Three stars means the place is pretty OK. If I was a competitive bike rider who rode a $2000 bike and wanted a shop that could help me out when I needed, this would be the place for me. As a woman who just rides my cruiser to and from downtown, this probably isn't the shop for me. It seemed a bit intimidating. I agree with the casual bike riders who have reviewed this place on Yelp. I am going to end up buying a new bike because I want the perfect one for me. If I have issues with that, I'll probably end up taking it back here... But I'll make sure that whoever wrote on my receipt isn't the one helping me. read more

After moving from Austin to Colorado to McKinney all in the course of 2 years, my poor Craigslist bike was worse for the wear. I finally moved within biking distance of my job, so decided to take my bike in to Cadence Cyclery since I also work on the square. As it turns out, my bike was totaled. Doug told me everything that would need to be fixed and how much it would cost, and after the estimate told me that he could help me get a new bike for cheaper than my fix. Since I wasn't particularly attached to my bike, I donated it right there in the shop. Cadence has a donation program that works with Spokes for Folks which gives bikes to those in need. Doug then helped me pick out a new bike, complete with all the items on my wishlist, for a better deal than it would have been to fix my bike. I LOVE my new bike. I rode it to work for the first time today and it rides like a dream. Doug really helped me figure out what I needed and fit it into my budget. Plus, they installed a kickstand that's nicer than any kickstand I've ever seen. The customer service can't be beat! My bike has a lifetime warranty from Cadence on it so if anything ever goes wrong, I can swing my bike by and get it taken care of. What a relief!! Cadence is opening a coffee shop soon and it's bound to be my new favorite hangout on the square. I highly recommend going here for anyone in the area!! I have been riding for 30+ years but due to some orthopedic and spinal alignment issues I have become increasingly uncomfortable on the bike and could not ride any distance without soreness. I just needed a spoke on my bike replaced, but this place also fixed the fork on my bike that had been incorrectly positioned when I bought it years ago and I did not know it was wrong. They did not charge me for fixing the fork. They were courteous on the phone and in the store. I did have to wait a several days before I could bring in my bike for service and a couple more before it was fixed, but they let me know those time frames. Have bought 2 bikes from this shop and have always enjoyed the experience. The employees have always been welcoming and tend to say hi even when they are busy. Prices for service and turnaround times are comparable to most other area shops and their techs are pretty experienced. They carry some different brands compared to some other shops and they are open to special ordering (both of my bikes...). I've really enjoyed seeing them grow their presence in the cycling community. They've started sponsoring local rides and teaching clinics (including some women's outreach) over the past year. Being involved in the local cycling community and regularly frequenting other shops I usually find myself coming back here. So about a year ago I decided I was going to get into road cycling. I started by researching bikes and quickly concluded this was going to be a slightly expensive venture. While I saved and researched the actual bike I would eventually purchase I started slowly buying accessories. (Greg M. in McKinney, I am sure you are laughing at this point) Anyway...I had no idea what shop I was going to purchase from. I visited all of the usual suspects in the area. As I searched for a bike and a shop, I bought shoes, gloves, C02 cartridges, a helmet, socks, front and rear lights and yes I even bought a fancy bike computer. Fast forward to about a week ago and I sent Greg Mitchell at the McKinney shop a text (since I had visited once before and he gave me his card and told me to call or text him any time I had questions) He responded to my question very quickly and told me that he was going to have a 56cm and 58cm Specialized Allez Elite and to come in and ride them both to see which one fit the best. After running a few errands today I arrived at the shop at 4:45.(they close at 6) Greg had both bikes ready to go even though I had not told him I was coming. Long story short I rode the 58cm and it was perfect! I already had the cash to buy the bike but did not bring it with me. Greg offered to stay at the shop after closing if I wanted to go home and come back with the cash. I did just that!!! As I left the shop Greg already had "my bike" up no the stand putting on a new rear bag and fine tuning everything. I came back with all of my accessories (and the cash) and Greg went about fitting me, installing the cleats on my shoes, putting on the pedals and installing the computer and speed and cadence sensors. He also had installed bottle cages I had picked up and picked out a multi tool and spare tube. While all of this was going on we had a great conversation that went well above bikes. For a guy I just met, he is one of the nicest people I know. My wife and young children were in the area to meet for dinner and he greeted them at the front door as he wrapped up the entire sale. I look forward to visiting and riding with the good folks at Cadence Cyclery for years to come.
