I am a founding member of the Suntex Boat Club at Lake Don Pedro, CA, and I love it…read more My membership makes me a partial owner of 5 boats right now. Because we are new chapter, it is totally easy to make reservations on the weekend and brain-dead easy during the week. I want enough but not too many people to join so we can grow the fleet but still be able to book. They have 3 new boats arriving in May 2021, so we will get a nice upgrade from regular marina rental fare. I was considering buying a boat for my empty-nest life, but do not want to deal with: buying, insurance, maintenance, trailer, storage, cleaning, towing, launching, and I don't even have a truck, so boat club is perfect for us. I used a boat last weekend, and everything was super-smooth. Because I am club, they treated me a bit better, and most of the paperwork was done when I arrived. I also have a reservation for Mother's Day in a few weeks. At Don Pedro, we get the boat all day, which is 10 to 4. The full-day rental makes it easy to get to the other side of the lake and stop, swim, play, and chill without feeling that the meter is running at $100 an hour. The boat club has the same impact as a ski pass; it makes you more integrated with your hobby and takes away the pain of paying for the rental on the day you use it, so you don't really notice. It's a buffet; the more often you go, the more value you get. I bought the Captain's membership for $3000 with a $500 discount and pay $375 a month, so the breakeven is 7 days on the water in the first year and 5 days each year after. Also, the skis, boards, and tube rentals are free, which cost $65 a day each without club. For Northern California, you can use the club at Lake Don Pedro and Lake Berryessa. I heard they will open a location in Southern California, maybe at Marina Del Rey. You can also use all the other locations throughout the US.

After the gate is closed if you need to be let out, you have to call the police. But there's so much to do here! Not just the swimming area! There's a hiking trail, playground and walking trails. Beautiful views and plenty of space to social distance yourself. The trails are available for no fee as far as I could tell, but the swimming area near WhoaZone is $5. They do not take cash, only debit/credit card. The swimming area has a playground and picnic areas. I think there's a spot to cast your kayaks off over there too, but I stayed near the beach and didn't explore anything else. I saw vehicles with kayaks going over on the other side. If you have water shoes, I'd say bring them and a beach umbrella as there's no shade. The sand isn't too uncomfortable to lie in, there's just cigarette butts here and there. But I definitely recommend visiting for the day or even camping if you're into it!

Someone recommended this to me as a "sandy beach". It is a beach, and there is some sand, but the…read moreshore is probably a 50/50 mix of packed dirt and sharp pebbles. OUCH! The rock bottom extends out a couple of yards into the water, where it turns to clay. For swimmers, the rockiness is less of an issue - get past the rocks and swim/float your heart out, but the rocks along the shore make it significantly less enjoyable for babies. Running along the shore and splashing in the shallow water is painful without water shoes. For a true SANDY BEACH, check out Twin Points Park at Eagle Mountain Lake or Little Elm on Lake Lewisville instead. Twin Points is nicer, if you're deciding between the two. Pros: it's a pretty spot, with nice views. Plenty of parking - $5 per car. CREDIT/DEBIT ONLY. There is a dock for jumping off (which we didn't notice until we were leaving, sadly!). Not very crowded on a Saturday in August. Pretty clean, other than the bathrooms. Alcohol permitted (or if not permitted, certainly not regulated). Days swimming at the lake are SO MUCH FUN! Aside from the rocky shore, the only big negative was how gross the bathrooms were. We were there pretty early, so clearly they aren't cleaned daily. Also, the whoa zone is SO EXPENSIVE!!!! It looks fun but I cannot wrap my head around the fact that people pay that much to be there. It's $22 a person for ONE HOUR! Mon-Thurs they also offer a $50 all day pass. For our family of 7, I consider that cost prohibitive. Overall, it was a fun day at the lake, but Meadowmere Park is just not the best DFW has to offer.

You can rent a canoe, boat or jet-skies. Even catch sunset with dinner on a boat. Definitely family oriented, there is not much for the night life. Sure hope that business picks back up, asi would hate to see this place go to waste. Several spots to pick from to eat from a Mexican, Cajun, American and Asian. Parking is a little tuff at times, you will find a spot eventually but you just have to circle around and walk further. They do have valet though, so that's an option. There is not much shaded sitting areas near the water so an umbrella is highly recommended, or a hat, but definitely plenty of sunscreen and water.
