As a resident of Reston Town Center and someone who visits this location twice a week, I've finally reached a breaking point. During my most recent visit to purchase a Playa Bowl, the customer service was extremely disappointing. I was the only customer in the store, yet the two employees on duty didn't acknowledge me when I walked in. Instead, they were loudly chatting and laughing among themselves. When I was ready to order, both of them walked to the back without saying a word. Eventually, one of the employees returned to take my order, but she was clearly uninterested--unfriendly, impatient, and distracted by her ongoing conversation with the other employee. The lack of professionalism made me feel disrespected. This isn't the first time I've noticed a lack of proper management. It often feels like the store is being run entirely by unsupervised teenagers. There needs to be serious attention given to staff training and store oversight. People return not just for the food, but for the overall experience--and right now, that experience is seriously lacking due to poor customer service. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. read more

My favorite is the Pura Vida, which is açaí base, granola, honey, and topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries. Perfection. The portion sizes are definitely filling but you have to eat these fresh out of preparation for the best experience. Otherwise the granola gets a little soggy and the açaí melts a bit which is ok but best when it's still slightly frozen. The açaí is fresh and you can tell by its color. If you buy açaí in the store it normally is a darker purple but Playa Bowl's açaí is a vibrant purple. The fruit is always super fresh and perfectly ripe. The only reason I can't give this a 4-5 star review is the price points. For what is essentially a smoothie poured out of its cup into a bowl and then garnishments added on top, the price point reflects something of an actually restaurant?!?! 12-15 bucks for a smoothie you could get for 7 or 8 bucks at smoothie king or tropical smoothie. I love Playa Bowls! And I'm so glad there is a location at RTC now. I used to stock up when I stop by the Mosiac location. Unlike some other açaí places around, this one has variety. Yes, you can pick açaí, pitaya (dragonfruit), coconut, and green (kale) as your base. Undecided? No worries, you can make your own bowls. The possibilities are endless. Im so disappointed. The blueberries were wrinkly. I spent time picking out moldy strawberries (see pic) and the bathroom was falling apart. The açaí was SUPER sweet, as was the granola. Literally, the faucet came off when I turned it on. No toilet paper and the floor was filthy, sticky and had weird hair balls on it. The paper towel dispenser was hanging open and the paper towels fell onto the floor. I wasn't told about the rewards program, but that's ok. Went to Playa Bowls for the first time.. took it to go to eat in my car with my boyfriend. I open the lid, I see a lengthy hair immediately after opening the lid on top of the strawberries. I'll be honest, I try to not complain.. My boyfriend picks around where the first hair was... and after a couple scoops we find ANOTHER HAIR IN OUR FOOD. My boyfriend was already 5 minutes up the road at this point, and I didn't want to have to turn back around and complain. But after the second hair in my food, I genuinely had enough and felt nauseous. Disappointing. The workers hair was pulled back, but apparently there weren't enough precautions taken. We watched at least 10 customers walk into the place whose orders they prioritized after they knew we were waiting for our order. No apology, no remorse, and naturally the smoothie was below par. Would venture to say we've spent 100 bucks here over the past few months and live within a walk of this place. Going to lose a long term customer over incompetence and lack of empathy.
