Play serves some of the best coffees from some amazing roasters and they know what they are doing! Service is always great but the line can get a little long so don't get frustrated because if you love coffee then the wait is worth it! Vibe here is super chill and the way they utilize the containers is pretty amazing. It was a mediocre experience. First, I was told the strawberry matcha is made with cow's milk, which is strange. I've never heard of a café not being able to substitute that. I was told any other drink could have non-dairy. Second, the drink itself (matcha maple latte) was all right, but nothing noteworthy. Even though I saw that the employee was using a whisk for the matcha, the taste itself was bland. I also didn't see the stickers they used to have out in the beginning, and that was one if the main reasons I returned. Maybe I should have asked. Took my brother in law on an LA coffee tour yesterday. He's a coffee snob, so we had to try the best. Went to Maru, Camel, Kumquat... got some different pour overs. He liked them. Maru was serving a competition level roast. High quality coffee. Then this morning, we went to Play, and got a Play Exclusive pour over. Tasted like strawberries, it was so good. I first tried the iced volcano latte at the Taste of Orange, so when I was in the Fullerton area and saw there was a PLAY location I knew I HAD to stop and grab an iced volcano latte. Highly recommend- perfect balance of salty and sweet (but not too sweet, and I'm usually someone who asks for less sweetener elsewhere because drinks can be way too sugary, but PLAY does it RIGHT!) I had high hopes for PLAY Coffee after reading so many great reviews, but my visit left me a bit underwhelmed. The vibe felt like an overpriced LA coffee shop, which didn't quite align with the overall experience. The menu included minimal information--just drink and pastry names without any descriptions--and when I asked for clarification, the staff seemed annoyed. Not exactly the welcoming experience I was expecting. I ended up ordering the Shaken Maple, essentially a latte shaken in a cocktail shaker. It was good! Play coffee has two locations. This location offers an indoor/outdoor experience with ample seating for both options. My order was taking quickly after arriving and served fast. I ended up buying one of the items they sell (espresso log book) which I'm so excited to use at home. There's street parking as well as parking in the back. Wow!!! I just had the shaken maple with oat milk, iced, and decaf. This coffee is incredibly delicious. The young woman who made it, took such care in putting it together and served it with a smile. It had a little slice of an orange peel, which added an additional delicious touch of flavor to it. One of the best coffees I've ever had in my life. Definitely check this place out.. read more

Ordered an iced Volcano latte and a hot tea WAKAITO GREEN. Iced Volcano latte was pretty tasty not to sweat. The Wakaito green was tasty but super hot when served to me. I waited 30 minutes and it still burned my mouth so I had to wait another I had to wait another 30-40mins before I could drink it without burning my mouth. Play Coffee -- another niche coffee in downtown Fullerton. Based on great reviews, I decided to checkout the venue. I'm always gleaning from happiness drinking good quality coffee and supporting small businesses. Play shop is built with recycled shipping container so the space is narrow and long. Depending where you're entering the shop (e.g, from the sidewalk on Commonwealth) the main shop is further down in the alley. You'll walk past outdoor seatings and the "container" recreated as a lounge. I like the simplicity and vivid blue and orange painted walls. The main shop is bright and small -- order from a limited menu but brewed with marketed "higher quality beans". The price point is okay and comparable to other coffee shops. We ordered: (1) Volcano Tonic - 3/5. It was a specialty drink but nothing specific special about it. A bit disappointed. (2) Vanilla Latte - It's good nothing stands out. read more

One of the best in the OC for real coffee-enthusiasts. I usually grind my own beans and make pour overs at home with a V60, but every once in a while, I enjoy drinking a cortado or cappuccino with whole milk at coffee shops. I'd say this coffee shop is one of the best in SoCal without having to drive out to LA. They have a number of single-origin espresso and pour over offerings on rotation to try (including coffee roasters from the Netherlands and Norway). You know it's going to be good when there's beans on the shelf from coffee roasters such as La Cabra, April, Nomad.... Their espresso is one of the best pulled ones I've had - not over or under extracted. I was able to taste the berry notes in my cappuccino and the flavor was clean and not muddled at all. I had a sip of the volcano latte (which was described as their sweet and salty drink). I do think it was a bit overpowered by the milk and hard to taste the espresso, but still unique and tasty. Play Coffee is known for their coffee-forward drinks- not the sweet ones; so I don't fault them on this. Hope this review helps. Nowadays, it's really hard to tell which coffee shops are all hype but have bad tasting espresso and overly sweet, gimmicky lattes - this place is for the real coffee enthusiasts. Enjoy! read more

Stopped into play coffee today to try The "Cartier cream top" which has warming spices combined with espresso, milk, chai, Bourbon, vanilla & topped with Alexandre family farm A2 grass-fed cream top and then shaken with organic pumpkin spice. This seasonal drink is a must try if you are looking for a cozy drink to get you in the fall spirit. Strawberry Matcha - 9/10 delicious matcha. The matcha isn't too strong and there's none of that weird texture you can get sometimes. Only downside is I think they premake the strawberry part so you can only get this drink with whole milk Volcano Latte - 9/10 my partner isn't a huge latte person but this was a hit for him. The coffee isn't hidden by the milk and isn't burnt like a lot of places. Perfectly sweet The shop is super small and the menu is simple. There's no places to sit inside but plenty on the outside. Super casual. Parking was fairly easy on a Monday morning but I can imagine it would be more difficult on the weekend since the lot is so small. However downtown Fullerton has lots of lots so you can def walk. Service was quick and friendly. They had two baristas so the drinks came out in just a few minutes. read more

Play Coffee is undoubtedly one of the best coffee spots in Fullerton. They're consistent every time and all their coffee options are very good. I have family in the area and whenever I visit them, I ALWAYS go here first for a great cup of Joe. Also love the way their coffee shop looks. Very unique and playful (hence the name haha). My husband & I have stopped here a number of times to try their coffees & their treats. Love the unique design of this location & there are a number of seats in each little shipping container. There are some spots to sit outside & depending on the time of day you may be able to grab a nice shaded spot outside. Like other reviews have mentioned, they have a limited number of drinks & no descriptions. Some are obvs a given in what to expect but I did have to ask what was in the Volcano Latte. It sounded really good & I got it iced. I think next time I will try it hot, it didn't taste like anything special tbh. It is supposed to have a smoked & salty flavor but I didn't taste any of that when I had it iced. Their maple matcha was really good & I will def come back for that! Another thing that I noticed was consistency. The first couple of times my husband ordered the shaken maple it was not garnished with an orange peel. The last time we went in it was garnished. We also had bought the cutie little doughnuts for our little & they were stale the first time. The second time around they were super super moist! The service is good, they are friendly & will explain what's on the menu if you have questions. I hope that we can get more consistent drinks/treats. read more

Let me first say that this is cute coffee shop. Not many tables tho. My coffee was just ok. All (approx) 9oz. I specifically asked for a large coffee. They don't have large sizes, BTW one size only and I was never corrected at the time they took my money. I ordered a "large" latte and a medium sized tea. $15 total and $2 tip because I was under the impression that I was getting a large sized coffee. When they called my order i told the barista that I asked for a large. His response was, "well we only have one size...." With a smartass attitude. I was in line to complain to the gal at the register and she was busy telling her friend about her migraines and totally ignored me. I just walked out. I'm in this are constantly, but I'll never come back and I will tell my friends to do the same. Here's a tip, a little information goes a long way guys. I come here everyday - mostly twice a day. Their filter (drip) coffee is God's gift to this earth, and you will not find another espresso tonic on this green earth that is better than this one. I read someone complaining about the match here. HORSESHIT! Their matcha is the only matcha I will trust! Leon and the staff know their shit! It's a latte with oat milk, and there's an orange peel on top of the coffee. The orange zest smells great and refreshing, and as you drink more, the orange smell gets stronger. If you prefer a strong coffee taste, this drink may not be for you, but I enjoyed this mild coffee with refreshing orange zest.
