This is a follow up from my original visit here. I was curious to try to volcano latte again. I've been here a total of 3 times now: the first time I tried the volcano latte, the second time I tried a vanilla latte, and this last time I tried the volcano again. The line always seems to move quickly here and this visit was no different. The service is also worth noting: all the servers are very nice. The volcano latte is interesting because it is such a subtle flavoring. They add a smoky salt to the drink to give it the "volcanic" flavor. The saltiness added adds a certain texture to the taste, and the smokiness adds a very subtle almost mouthfeel that compliments the earthy, semi-bitter coffee notes. It's super strange because trying a normal latte and the volcano side by side allow you to see how subtle yet entirely noticeable the smoky salt adds. read more

The drinks are quite good, the espresso is never burnt tasting and always flavorful. They also have pastries which I have not tried but look delicious. The matcha could be a little stronger and bolder flavor but does not taste bad at all. The service is really quick and workers are friendly. They have outdoor seating which is nice for the summer and spring and nice indoor seating that I enjoy during the fall and winter that has heaters in it. They also have unisex restroom that were clean and do not have codes which I appreciates. The only down side is they are a little expensive. read more

Tasty coffee. They sell beans from Nomad coffee sorced from Barcelona. This was amazing to see as my partner and I got to experience the delicious beans on a trip to Spain, but didn't have enough luggage space to bring back more bags of their beans. Definitely an interesting concept for a coffee shop but I enjoyed it. The drinks that we got were fantastic, they don't have the Negroni in the menu anymore but we're still able to make it for us and it was great. The volcanic was tasty as well. The seating area was a little cramped, but I didn't mind it too much. The only thing was that the Negroni was $9 and I'm not sure most people would be ok paying that much for coffee. PLAY coffee has an amazing atmosphere and fantastic drinks. I don't really drink coffee, so I decided to get the Matcha Maple Latte with oat milk. It was easily one of the best matcha based drinks I had at any cafe. It tastes like a refined version of green tea latte from starbucks. It has a lot of depth to the sweetness and the maple and matcha balance the bitterness and sweetness perfectly. The main sitting area is in a storage container leading to a very unique experience. Be aware that parking in the area for a long duration can be annoying and tricky. I would definitely come here again. read more

I've been a regular at Play coffee for few years. Their price is a bit higher than other coffee shops in this town but I still go there regularly because it's worth it. I really like their coffee drinks and also their atmosphere is very cute. One thing that I don't really appreciate is their customer service. It is moderately sized coffee shop with a limited menu. They also sell lots of coffee beans and other cool merchandise! Drinks / I ordered the volcano latte which is described to be smoky, sweet and also a little bit of saltiness. I also tried the shakarito (I probably misspelled this). The latte was great but wasn't that memorable for me. As for the shakarito, it has 3 espresso shots and had some orange peels. I liked that one a lot because it was smooth and had some fruit tones! This is a unique& fun cafe - 6 shopping containers were repurposed and turned into play coffee. The design of this cafe is one of a kind. Still, you can find outlets, speedy wifi, restroom, and seating outside and indoors. I loved that there was no background music!! I put in my earplugs and listened to my own Spotify playlist. I had heard of a place in the orange circle that was new since a few other places have come and gone there that were special try yet not sustaining the times. I am glad I made a stop in whilst meeting a friend whom had not partaken in a proper pour sesh. Well, this was so on point. I can fully appreciate the pour and its presentation, and the barista whom served up the pour with lots of love and attention for two, She was delighted and learned more about the nuances of how coffee is prepared and the notes that come to mind when tasting, savouring. The croissant was a nice touch, fresh and flaky. I can appreciate the staff at Play Coffee and have been back a couple more times. The old bank building has its charm and it had a nice ambiance to it, spread out and imo it is kind of bike friendly as it is a huge open space. But the female barista served our coffee on paper cup even if the male cashier understood the order and said will serve it right on. If there is female barista making the coffee on the counter, do not come here. She will serve you hot americano on paper cup even if we asked on the mug. Upon speaking to the staff it's clear that they love coffee and love what they do. They were all very knowledgeable and if they were unsure of an answer to my questions, instead of making something up, they would consult with someone else to make sure that the information that I got was accurate. Love it here! Such a perfect study spot with plenty of seating. It's air conditioned on hot days and the Wi-Fi is speedy. Their drinks are delicious! The Volcano latte (?) has a bit of a salty taste if you like that. But their regular lattes are great too. There's plenty of parking, but they are all limited-time parking. I've only seen Espresso Tonics in LA coffee shops and this was the first time I saw this item in an OC coffee shop. If you're an avid at home coffee brewer, they have a variety of coffee bean selections from around the world and locally. Me and my roommate were looking for a new coffee shop to try. We saw this one on instagram and decided to check it out and WOW. We were blown away! The coffee was phenomenal, the baristas were super nice, and the space was very unique! It is colorful and open-concept, being made out of old shipping containers. They have a variety of unique drinks, coffee beans to take home, and delicious local pastries (get the cinnamon rolls!) We both got the sweet latte one with Oat and one with Almond milk and both were perfect. The barista that helped us out was super nice AND had great eyeliner. We will definitely be back!! I was really excited to try the volcano latte and it didn't disappoint ;) ! I'm not sure if I would say it was the best coffee ever. But I really liked it, and the baristas are all very nice :) ! My friend recommended it and I liked how it is a really simple coffee shop with some cute Lego block designs and plants in the Soco District of downtown Fullerton, and there is even a neat blue shed with small tables inside :) ! Play has good coffee. Their Cardamon Latte is great. I just had a weird experience today. The customers in front of and owner were simply having too long of a conversation. I just got frustrated and had to leave. So disrespectful towards other customers. Maybe for future customers take the orders , then while taking care of customers making stuff continue the conversation. I have been going here since they first opened. I even go to the space in Orange. I recommend going here when you have time to burn. I had to get back home. The positive is that I discovered a new spot. The Mugs at harbor and Chapman.
