Great little brewery that serves excellent craft beer and surprisingly good food. We come here every chance we get, especially since it's right in our neighborhood. The staff is generally friendly and welcoming, and even though I'm not a big beer head anymore, I still enjoy most of their offerings. Their food menu is solid: they have wings, burgers, and more--but my favorite is the steak sandwich with fries. It never disappoints.The brewery itself is also a great place to hang out. The patio is huge, and they recently added covered lounge areas with heaters, which makes it comfortable year-round. There are TVs everywhere, and they show plenty of local games, including rugby. They used to support the Sabercats back when they were still around. Overall, it's a reliable neighborhood brewery that's firmly in our regular rotation. There is plenty of parking options here and they have always been nice to our walking group before and after our hikes. I really had set my expectations low for the food because they're a brewery and so I didn't expect the food to be good, much less a salad but it turned out that my "You don't win friends with salad" salad was really delicious and unique with the greens in there. I had it two weeks ago and am still thinking about it. Their other food selections are also supposed to be excellent - I heard from multiple people that their brussel sprouts are really good and apparently the lamb shops and calamari (which I had a sample of) are great too. read more

Found this place when looking for breweries near my friends townhouse and immediately gravitated towards it cuz of it's name and Aussie theme. This is NOT a novelty brewery! I luv that it embraces its Aussie roots, but moreso I love that it has so much substance behind the theme! First off, fantastic beer selection; if you can't find a beer you like here, you should probably not be drinking beer. Second, the food menu is diverse and they offer legitimately quality food here; and for the quality it did not take as long as I was expecting it to! To that point, BOMG you gotta get the burger and the brussels sprouts!!! The incredible grade of the beef in the burger will melt in your mouth, and the flavor bomb that is the brussies...a foodgasm is guaranteed, so if you're a moaner def give those around you the heads-up like I did cuz you will def be re-enacting Meg Ryan's famous scene from "When Harry Met Sally" (IYKYK). The food, service, and ambiance were all right on point. I went by myself, and sat at the bar. They have a full bar with house cocktails as well as a happy hour. Service was prompt and came with well delivered suggestions. (Not too pushy or annoyed) I ended up ordering some food and talking with some of the other bar guests as well as the owner who was very friendly and engaging. The parking lot was big, but I went during the day- so I was told people come in thru a side door? Not sure. Despite visiting on a Saturday night, the place was pretty vacant, but we were served quickly. We accessed the full drink menu on the QR code on the table (see screenshots in photos). There was a games corner with board games, cornhole, darts, and beer pong! We attempted Dominos, but I remember also seeing Uno, Cards Against Humanity, and Yahtzee, among others. Went to check out this chill and laid back Aussie bar with a friend on a weeknight and quite dope. What I'm saying is that the food and drinks were on point for a casual bar and you could notice the obvious smell of dope from the outdoor patio area before entering the premises. People are definitely looking to have a good time! The interior space is not large but houses a handful of tables and some bar seats. Since it was a midweek visit, there weren't too much people and there was no issues finding parking in the back of the building not a spot to sit down and kick back. Browse their menu via the QR code located on their tables and place an order with a server. The beer menu is nice with a side of cocktails and even non alc beverages like the Bundaberg ginger beer. The food menu has some Aussie style options like meat pie, sausage rolls, and fish n chips alongside typical bar food options like a variety of fries, wings, burgers, and other small bites and shareables. We tried their Fancy Fries (potato scoops w/rosemary infused olive oil, topped with parmesan) which was a decent portion value wise and crispy, and the Sausage Roll (seasoned ground pork, tomato relish, in puff pastry) which was amazingly savory and tasty. I would come back just to try more Aussie style foods. Just a note - the brewery is cashless and accepts credit cards or digital wallet payment only. There's a few arcade games for fun along the side wall leading to the restrooms. Also, seems to be upstairs seating with specials throughout the week posted on their website and social media. Came here this week for an event and was delighted with the space! It's a cute little tap room with a big covered outdoor seating area, which was lovely because our huge group was able to enjoy the outdoors from our large table even when there was a downpour. I had the Wooly Jumper, a rich and warm dark beer that was delightful and I will definitely have to grab again before we cycle to summer flavors. A lot of the girls in my group got cocktails and those seemed to take a while, but ya know, it's a brewery so you get what you get. I've been frequenting the Wednesday surf & turf special. A good price & I like the option for the veggie sides. Great specials and varied selection of brews, really something for everyone to drink. It's rare to find a place with so much parking AND such a great patio. There always seems to be something going on here. My wife and I had dinner and drinks there. The ambiance is fantastic. Being Australian I chose the meat pie for my dinner. It was so fantastic we took 3 to go to put in my fridge. They were even kind enough to give me heating instructions for our oven. Sitting outside gave me the feeling I was back in Perth sitting down by the beach having beers with my mates. Beer is decent. The service here is atrocious. Bartenders doing shots behind the bar while it's slow often leads to garbage service, I've found. After the bartender gagged on her shot, she walked up, cleared my empty glass, and apologized for gagging and told us that she didn't drink hard liquor often. She walked away and I was then ignored for another ten minutes. She continued to serve other new customers that walked up at the other end of the bar. Two other employees were behind the bar as well. Finally one of the other employees realized what was going on, and I took that opportunity to close the tab and leave. While the drunk bartender was mixing a drink during this time the pour spout fell out of one of the liquor bottles into the mixing tin and way more liquor than she intended to pour into the tin came out. She fished the spout out with her fingers and carefully poured the excess back into the bottle. I'm fairly confident that once it's poured out of the bottle it's illegal to put it back in. Platypus brewing is one of those places where I would often drive past, but never have a good chance to come visit. Ultimately, we found an afternoon where we were around the area and had a chance to enjoy the neighborhood brewery. You'll notice the familiar feel of outdoor wooden patio seating and games for all to play. Right inside are you bar favorites of high wooden tables, clean area to sit and some tables for families. All you got to do is go up to the bar and take a look at their nice menu of different style beers. Some of my favorite styles to go to is the coffee porter and amberye they had. Both the flavors were very standard and nothin bad about them, but my ultimate favorite coffee porter hands down is 8th wonders and Platypus's unfortunately did not come close. Stopped in after a visit to The Post. This place was great! Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Very laid back with several televisions. Owners are Australian and have some themed fun events. There is great selection of a dozen or so craft beers brewed on site. My fav was Grandaddy Purp. My husband loves IPAs and after tasting four on a flight, enjoyed a pint of Orbit. Platypus does have food. We nibbled on the Brussel sprouts, which is one of the favorites of the locals (we were told). I bet their flounder fish and chips is good. Potatoes where good but very dry more butter needed. Toppings bacon, cheese, green onions, were really good. The steak though ... it wasn't what i was expecting but it was okay. It was super dry for my medium rare steak and my lil friend's medium steak. The sunset outside was lovely, the picnic tables are cute, and the flowers are blooming. Was craving steak and was in the area so decided to check this brewery out. To get the steak night promotion price, you need to order an alcoholic beverage with it. I ordered the steak with brussel sprouts as the side. The beer I tried was the Bobby Dazzler which is an Australian Blonde Ale. If you're a fan of light beers, the Bobby Dazzler is the one to get. I ordered the steak rare but it came out closer to medium to medium well which was quite disappointing. Loved the brussel sprouts though, highly recommend the sprouts if you're having a tough choice deciding on a side. I'll probably give this place a try again in the future just to try their other beer selection. read more
