Went here to browse, they had a promo that was advertised outside that said "Get $10 off a $50 purchase." Had exactly $50 worth of clothes and went to check out, got up to the front to check out, and the girl was super rude and didn't even smile at us. I then put in my phone number for my rewards and the check out lady told me I didn't have enough points for the $10 off. So I payed and went back outside to look at the promo. It said nothing about the points so I went inside to speak to the manager. She told me that it was just a coupon which the girl had already given us. After getting in the car I looked at the coupon and it said $10 off a $50 purchase. So they made us spend $50 to then not be able to use the $10 off unless you spent $100. I think they need to work on their customer service and figure out how to run promos because this promo is awful. read more

I came here with my mentee to buy her some clothes for her birthday and she found so many options... me not so lucky. The sizes all run a bit small but they do go from xs-xl for most sections. I stopped selling items at Plato's because they went from giving you a 1/3 to 1/4 of what they would resale your items for to almost wanting to buy them for free. They took a FULL tote of items including jeans & shoes & all they offered me was $48.00. 2 pairs of the jeans (Rock & Republic) I sold there would go for $40.00 by themselves. When Colleen managed the store, it was friendly & you wanted to come back all the time, the staff they have now have chips on their shoulders as if were not worthy of their presence. The only thing I will say nice about this store is it is always clean. If I could give them 0 stars for this review I would gladly do it. read more

Went today! A girl told me if I needed anything, I said I came to sell some clothes. I had to wait 1 hour and 30mins which was fine with me Bc I understood they had a lot of clothes to go through. I brought two bags and they only got 3 items. I was fine with that Bc they gave me a good price for my items. I really was just trying to get rid of clothes and make room in my closet so $20 for three items wasn't bad, and they need to make some profit too! Overall will be coming back, really nice workers! I say give it a try, come before 3 when selling clothes and expect to wait Atleast 1 hour! For bringing in a big box of clothes, they don't give you anything at all. Not worth the time or energy, they screw you over big time.

The store is great. The quality and selections are better than many of the other stores I frequent. The staff is polite and helpful. The one thing that makes shopping there uncomfortable is several times while shopping we've heard other shoppers loudly insulting the staff, refusing to wear their masks when asked and once even going as far as calling a staff member a c*unt loud enough for us to hear when she refused his sexual advances. Each time, no action was taken to stop their behavior. Where are the managers? Why do they allow the staff to be treated this way? It makes shopping there feel unsafe & seedy. Also, why ask someone to wear a mask more than once? Stop putting your staff & other shoppers at risk by asking them over & over again. If they are asked once & don't comply, make them leave or I will leave. read more

This was the first time my 7 th grade son ever liked shopping. He found things he loved, things he would look cool in, and at a price that mom didn't say "no" to every single time. We came here before school started and got several items of clothing as well as Jordan sneakers. The staff was okay, and answered questions when asked. They aren't smothering, and they aren't nonexistent either. They have a frequent shopping card and special email or text offers (frequently), so we can keep coming back. Very disappointed in selling here. Brought in 3 bags worth of very nice clothing, name brand, barely worn, mostly still tags present and all folded for them. They only took 4 items and the items they took, I had worn the most - yet my other clothes they did not take were "worn condition." They also ask you to bring in everything folded, however they don't take the time to refold, rather throw and scrunch it back in the bag. Learned my mistake and not selling here again. read more

Alright, so this review is based on the progress this location has made. In years past, this spot has been Rough (capital r for emphasis). However, my most recent visit went so well! I found items I was on the hunt for and felt the prices were fair ($5.00 for a skirt, $5 for a new Ann Taylor dress shirt, $1.00 for a pair of earrings, etc.). Granted: there ARE still those items that are overpriced but overall, I feel like the pricing scale has gotten better aka more realistic. Their points system is now through a tablet-like touchscreen so no more punch or stamp card! You get 10 points just for passing on using a bag (bring your reusable bags!). On October 2, 2016. I came into the store close to closing time, not realizing they closed earlier since it's Sunday. Upon entering the store I was greeted, welcome to Plato's' and before the 3 people with me had made it through the door I hear, 'we close in 3 min!' Fair enough, we just wanted to check out shoes anyways and we know the size we need, so we could look real quick. Found a pair we planned to purchase and sent my mom to the line of about 5 people to pay for them. While she waited in line,myself, my sister, and daughter were checking the size on a coat that was hung by itself on a wall, hoping to purchase it along with the shoes if it was the right size. We didn't even get to grab the tag to see the size when we hear the employee yell, 'MA'AM! we're closed!' This was loud enough that everyone in the store heard it. My daughter (4) thought this employee was yelling at her and started crying, saying she was sorry. We instantly put the shoes down and left the store. I have NEVER received this kind of service anywhere. I will be calling the store in the morning to speak with a manager. I understand closing time, but when you're in retail there is a need to treat the customer right! read more

People get their knickers in a twist when it comes to resale I have discovered. The way I view it: you don't want it anymore. You thought it was worth $X when you bought it. You didn't think it was worth $X - resale value. I went in here today as I just cleaned out part of my closet - somehow I had amassed 6 tulle skirts (all different from each other, but still...) if that gives you an idea. a friend of mine told me to stop by here before Goodwill. So I did. Two reusable tote bags and a small Amazon box. Urban outfitters, free people, Anthropologie, boutique brands, some fast fashion (not much because that isn't my jive), Kate spade, jimmy Choo, Ted baker, haute hippie, AG They took everything but one worn Anthro top, one more worn dress, and the higher end stuff that wasn't part of the URBN Corp (Kate spade, jimmy Choo, Ted baker, haute hippie, AG). They told me the higher end stuff didn't have a true market there and wouldn't sell because of the selling point. $66. Didn't bother me in the least. It was going to Goodwill. I got my use out of the items before passing them along. At the end of the day it isn't personal. It's business. How do you think they can charge so little? Because they pay little. They have a big investment in storage, real estate, utilities, employees, etc. and they have the risk of the item not selling or having to be clearanced. And then there's the chance of theft. I was quite disappointed with my experience at Plato's closet. I took in a bag of clothes to be consigned and was also shopping with my 14 year old son. We dropped off our clothing to be looked over and were told it would be 20 to 30 minutes, it took around an hour. The employee that was handling the consigning was running around the store barefoot! My son browsed the racks but we found the men's section to be lacking in anything of quality. read more

When I got to Plato's there were four bins ahead of mine which is how it normally is so I was expecting about 20 to 30 minutes like usual. I ended up being at Plato's for an hour and a half waiting for them to look at my bin. The employees were wasting time, getting distracted by telling stories to each other, singing and dancing, arguing about who should take their break first, etc. I wish the employees there respected other people's time!! four bins should NOT take an hour and a half. Brought clothes to sell. They said they didn't want to buy any because they weren't looking for what I had. Understandable. However, they said they didnt want what i brought (sweaters, blue jeans, and long sleeve shirts that were all name brand). Instead, they wanted cargo shorts and graphic tees. In November? Thought it was odd and my bag wasn't as full as when I brought it in so I checked. They took some of my clothes anyway and didn't pay me. This place is a rip off. This store is a joke. The staff - RUDE! They never have a smile on their face, never ask for help and don't have manners. To top it off they're not friendly and speak under their breath. We brought in 3 bags FULL of new or slightly used designer clothing and they bought 4 items, a $9 value apparently. We were told our clothes were out of style or were too old. (Too old is older than 2 years apparently). I don't recommend bringing your nice clothes here to get a little money because, well, they're nice. I have to say that the Plato's Closet on US 31 on the south side is hands down the most rudest and uptight store I have ever been in. I took 2 bags of clothing in to potentially sell. I was told it would be a 25 - 30 minute wait so I left to run over to Burlington Coat Factory. I came back 1 hour later and not only did they not look through my clothes yet, but they had looked at other customers items that came in after me. I waited another 30 minutes before taking my clothes and leaving NOT being looked through. The staff does nothing but stand at the register gossiping about everyone but their mother's and they don't look like they have a nickle to their name themselves. Chris the owner has let this location go downhill with NO brakes ! This store was a great place to go to when Colleen was the store manager. I would rather donate my clothes to Goodwill than go back into Plato's Closet and their RUDE employees ! read more

I dropped off four bags of clothes. I was told it would only take about an hour for them to get back with me. An hour and a half passes by and I call and ask for an update on my bags and I'm told they're going through them at that moment. Perfect, I thought. I received a text about ten minutes later saying they were finished. I thought that was weird because I had just called and I had brought so much stuff. But maybe they had started earlier and had just wrapped up going through it. Then I arrived to pick up my clothes and they were tied trash bags clearly hardly gone through because they were still tied just barely stretched. No way enough to get some of the pairs of shoes and jackets I had in them. They gave me ALL of my stuff back due to the "condition" of the clothing. I had multiple brand new tops in the bags with tags, barely worn trendy boutique tops, timberland shoes, American eagle jeans, vests, sherpas, I even had a very nice gently used Michael Kors wallet and they took NONE of it. What I believe it boils down to is the laziness of the workers. They could not have gone through the bags and passed so much new clothing up due to the "condition" because they have literally never been worn. Management, talk to these workers. Just because they wait until the last minute before close when the clothes had been dropped off hours in advance you are missing out on pieces of nice clothing. Viewers reading reviews, do not even waste your time taking your clothing here... take them to style encore instead. Staff, do better. I am a very disappointed customer and will surely never be returning to this store again. I am putting this on any review site I know because it is RIDICULOUS. I shop here every once in a while and when I do I usually buy quite a bit. I'm always pleasant to the sales people and hang my clothes back up properly etc. because I've worked retail and know what it's like, but that never stops them being rude to me. I keep coming back because I like cheap clothes and I like the variety of having different brands all in one store. I've given the store such a low rating however because I just can't get past how the staff are so unbelievably rude. On my last visit when I was in the fitting room I could hear the staff loudly complaining about people who had carts full of stuff (they were having a big sale), my friend and I were two of these people. Everyone who had that much stuff was very respectful and hung it back up properly etc. I also heard them making fun of a girl who had gone into the dressing room before me calling her tacky and such. I tend to just ignore it as that type of stuff doesn't get to me, but I can just imagine being a younger girl in the store and hearing something like that and being uncomfortable and embarrassed. I wouldn't shop here unless you can just brush off the rudeness of the employees. There are a few nice girls who work there, but the majority have a bad attitude. read more
