Falling under the umbrella of Good News Mission, a near-eastside ministry that started off as what one some would call a "homeless shelter" but has grown to include a youth center, supports for families, and even a neighborhood health clinic with a focus on the near-eastside. Good News Ministries Thrift Shop offers used or new clothing, furniture, appliances, household items, and much more. The thrift shop is run by residents from the men's shelter and offers them work experience and direct customer interaction. I drive by the thrift shop just about every single day on the way to work and had long been curious, however, I never stopped in until recently to finally check it out. Those who were working in the story were friendly and helpful. Rest assured that this is not a Goodwill store - it's smaller, less organized, and definitely more crowded and a bit run down. However, I found it to be clean and actually was surprised how much they actually had. 100% of the proceeds from the thrift shop help to support the various efforts of Good News Ministries. It's worth noting that this very much a ministry as is everything with Good News. There's a strong foundation of faith here, specifically Christian, and it radiates throughout their offerings. In terms of accessibility, I'd say the thrift shop offers casual accessibility. Yes, you can get in it and the actual environment typically will depend on what they have at the time. I generally had not much difficulty, but it's a bit hit-and-miss. Because it's an old Village Pantry, the building itself was generally designed with accessibility in mind. I've never seen an actual crowd here. The small parking lot has informal options for accessibility like aisle ends, etc. The thrift shop is catty-corner to the Good News 10-unit family shelter and right by the East Washington Branch Library. Would I return? Definitely. Prices are good, options are plentiful, customer service is casual but helpful, and Good News has been around since the 1950s and has a long history of helping those with housing instability. Since this is only their 2nd review, I think it's safe to say this highly visible but often unnoticed thrift shop is definitely an under-appreciated gem here in Indy and a terrific way of supporting Good News Mission. Oh, and yes, they do accept donations. You can visit their website to find out more.

Some prices are good, but some in my opinion are overpriced. I was able to find a cross engulfed with a heart that was a unique piece. I will be placing it in my flower garden. There is also a garden area outdoors that is hit or miss with the prices. If you find a large piece then let an associate know so that they can help with loading. I saw flooring such as tiles, rugs and I saw framed artwork which was difficult to browse through. There are dressers that would be great for a diy project. I also saw some wires, tools and lighting options. At the front are various couches and chairs as well as bed frames. I'll be returning to check the clearance again.

We've all heard of Habitat for Humanity and the amazing homes they build for the underprivileged. The sale of these items goes toward building even more Habitat homes and donations are the way they stock the shelves. I was surprised to see the large selection available and shocked at how affordable the prices are. Most of the furniture is located just as you enter and toward the front of the store. Sofas, love seats, coffee/end tables, entertainment centers and most things desired to furnish a living room, family or game room can be found here. Formal to dine-in kitchen tables, kitchen islands and china cabinets are available in several styles and finishes. Some of the wood furniture had a blemish or two but most was just normal wear. A few pieces would make great projects. Laminate flooring, lighting, shower stalls and tubs, patio doors and bathroom vanities are a few of the other items I found. The merchandise changes from day-to-day so pop in often if you looking for something specific. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Saturday 10 am to 6 pm or schedule pickup for large items or bulk donations.

But when you find it, you'll see that these cats have a lotta good stuff. Mostly, you will find streetwear and novelty t-shirts and accessories at Naptown Thrift. Shirts run the gamut from band t-shirts, Mickey Mouse, sports, hobbies and other things. Have you been looking for a shirt that says, "It's five o'clock somewhere?" Do you need a hoodie that shows your undying love for Dayton Beach? Or maybe a ball cap with a black Labrador Retriever on it? This is the place for you. Speaking of ball caps, you'll also find lots of hats and caps, Indiana artwork for sale, posters, denim (both shorts and long pants), jackets and lots more. This thrift store skews toward the adult male, which is fine by me. I feel like we need more good vintage stores for the dudes around here. Dudes need places to find sick threads. The Wild Goose Exchange is a cool vintage store / thrift store that started in Wisconsin, but they branched out and now there is also a store in Indy. I can't be arsed right now to find out why it's called The Wild Goose Exchange, but there are cement geese in the store -- you know, the kind that your grandmother has that she decorates for each holiday -- which is a cute and whimsical touch. This store has everything: women's clothing, men's clothing, accessories, shoes, jewelry and lots of hats. No kids' clothing, though. I saw a couple of graphic tees that I wanted, but I ended up purchasing an electric blue corduroy jacket, which will be perfect for the fall weather coming up. They have so many jackets here. This is the place to find something old and used to cover you up. The prices are great, considering. Sometimes, vintage clothing can be marked way the heck up. But the prices at The Wild Goose Exchange are fair. They also curate their stock really well! As I was scanning the racks and pawing through the clothing, I could tell that the items in the store were intentionally chosen. All of the items here are straight-up hits. Because The Wild Goose Exchange is located on Broad Ripple Avenue and there is no street parking, your best bet for parking is in back of the store, near the Vogue Theatre. If you park there, you can either enter The Wild Goose Exchange through the back near The Vogue, or walk around to the front. Two options for entering!

Yeah, I probably am. Anyway, that fun little bit aside that review made me want to make a stop to visit this new joint that I'd noticed but no really paid attention to. I'm not exactly the vintage shop targeting audience. After all, I AM vintage. Sigh. The Wild Goose Exchange started with spots in Appleton and Kenosha, Wisconsin and is now recently opened inside this Broad Ripple avenue storefront that is a little tricky to find and park for but definitely worth the effort. Vintage shops are a little weird for me. I like bargains, but I also feel like if it's too much of a bargain I start thinking it's just plain cheap. It's a fine balance. The Wild Goose Exchange really seems to find that balance quite well. They carry men's clothing, women's clothing, accessories, hats, watches, jackets, and a little bit more. As Nicole S. points out, this seems remarkably well curated. Don't be thinking this is your average thrift shop. It's not. It's also not really a pretentious vintage shop either. It feels communal with a strong emphasis on collaboration and giving back. The entrance is a little tricky in terms of accessibility, though it is what I'd consider accessible. The interior is definitely much better. I've always liked this spot and they use it well. As should be obvious, "wild goose" is a theme here. Hear me out. If you visit their website, there's a lot of "Where's the wild goose?" While I have zero clue why they went with this theme, I kept thinking to myself "wild goose chase" - which is, in fact, a fairly vintage saying. While I don't have a fashionable bone in my body (c'mon, you know it's true if you've met me), I really dug quite a few things here and items were in good condition and fairly priced. Parking is always a little tricky in Broad Ripple, but I find once I do it it's much easier than I expected. The Wild Goose Exchange feels like it belongs in Broad Ripple and I'd love to see its arrival trigger other arrivals around this area. For those who remember how Broad Ripple used to be, The Wild Goose Exchange brings that memory to life in its atmosphere and unique, inspired selections. I enjoyed this visit and will definitely return.
