I live just east of SoBro, though I'm known to claim the area as my homefront. SoBro Vintage Market is probably right on that line between what would be considered SoBro and Broad Ripple, though it undeniably carries a SoBro vibe. In case there's any doubt, this is a vintage market. The vibe tends to change here from visit to visit, though I'm not going to say I actually frequent the place because, quite honestly, it's not always particularly wheelchair friendly. Some of this stuff is vintage enough that I don't want to take a chance on breaking it with my chair. You can get art here. You can get music here. You can get clothing here. You can get some furniture here. If you look up this place on social media, you'll see that they actually have "& Curiosities" in their name - that's appropriate because they have quite a bit that I would simply call "curiosities." Prices range from "great deal" to WTF?" It seems like when I've been here, I've always seen quite a bit that falls into mid-century. That's kind of appropriate considering an awful lot of SoBro would fall into that era (including my home - a 1955 California ranch). When they are open, they are known for putting some items outside (which is how I finally stopped - I saw a wonderful retro dining room table that was to die for). People are friendly and knowledgeable. I honestly don't know a lot about the place, other than I find it to be ultra-cool, and I've never stopped by that I didn't see something I'd want (and will sometimes get). If you're into the vintage scene, SoBro Vintage Market is definitely worth a visit. If you have mobility issues or are a wheelchair user, just be aware that sometimes it gets pretty tight inside and you'll want to exercise caution.

The true treasure of the sho are the people that run it. They are so delightful and always make you feel welcome. Many times they have helped add to a collection by offering suggestions and remembering us when we came in. Though we don't always buy something we always learn something. Their knowledge and helpfulness is fantastic. I appreciate all the unique serving pieces and kitchen things available. My husband loves the record collection. Give this place a try... There's a good price range as well with things ranging from 30 on the lower end for some of the cooler shirts to $200+ for some of the more rare ones. Good News Ministries Thrift Shop is a small but mighty thrift shop that has existed quietly on the…read morecorner of East Washington Street and Rural since 2006 in what appears to have been a former Village Pantry. Falling under the umbrella of Good News Mission, a near-eastside ministry that started off as what one some would call a "homeless shelter" but has grown to include a youth center, supports for families, and even a neighborhood health clinic with a focus on the near-eastside. Good News Ministries Thrift Shop offers used or new clothing, furniture, appliances, household items, and much more. The thrift shop is run by residents from the men's shelter and offers them work experience and direct customer interaction. I drive by the thrift shop just about every single day on the way to work and had long been curious, however, I never stopped in until recently to finally check it out. Those who were working in the story were friendly and helpful. Rest assured that this is not a Goodwill store - it's smaller, less organized, and definitely more crowded and a bit run down. However, I found it to be clean and actually was surprised how much they actually had. 100% of the proceeds from the thrift shop help to support the various efforts of Good News Ministries. It's worth noting that this very much a ministry as is everything with Good News. There's a strong foundation of faith here, specifically Christian, and it radiates throughout their offerings. In terms of accessibility, I'd say the thrift shop offers casual accessibility. Yes, you can get in it and the actual environment typically will depend on what they have at the time. I generally had not much difficulty, but it's a bit hit-and-miss. Because it's an old Village Pantry, the building itself was generally designed with accessibility in mind. I've never seen an actual crowd here. The small parking lot has informal options for accessibility like aisle ends, etc. The thrift shop is catty-corner to the Good News 10-unit family shelter and right by the East Washington Branch Library. Would I return? Definitely. Prices are good, options are plentiful, customer service is casual but helpful, and Good News has been around since the 1950s and has a long history of helping those with housing instability. Since this is only their 2nd review, I think it's safe to say this highly visible but often unnoticed thrift shop is definitely an under-appreciated gem here in Indy and a terrific way of supporting Good News Mission.
