This thrift store has been a part of the broad ripple village since I was a teenager so it's a definite staple of the area. I decided to come in with my sister and friend to explore the shop. It is packed full of some great vintage clothes, jewelry, and decor. I found a really cute vintage Jurassic Park crop top shirt I had to get for only $10! They had great customer service and cute dressing rooms to try on clothes. My only complaint is how crowded the shop can get and how some patrons don't have a sense of personal space. Everything is reasonably priced, cute, and eclectic. I'd love to come back on a less busy day to explore some more! read more

First time in the store. As you walk in the door you find the men's clothes on the left-hand side and then the next couple aisles are all of the women's clothes. To the right is a glass case that holds belt buckles, patches, sunglasses, and many other small items. I found the people that work in there were very nice and helpful. As the shop is pretty small the items that I went in to look for were on a second tier of clothes that were toward the top of the ceiling and I am very short so it was difficult to see the items. They came over and got a couple down for me with a long pole. I did buy a dress in there But I thought that the price was pretty high for the type of store. The dress was $60. I have been here with friends multiple times. The staff is friendly and passionate about what they are doing. There is so much to look at with racks of clothes from floor to ceiling. This is definitely a place where you have to plan on taking time and really looking, but there are so many gems to find. There are unique clothing items, accessories, and decor that you really cannot find elsewhere. If you want to add some really fun pieces to wardrobe BRV is a place you have to go to. Downside is how tight it is to move around in spots, especially if others are shopping too. I also find parking can be a bit frustrating depending on the direction you come from and how busy the area is. There is a small lot in front of the store and one behind the building but it is on a one-way-road so if you happen to come from a certain way you need to go all the way around to get to either or try to find nearby street parking. read more

This place had an amazing collection of vintage Levi cut-off shorts for amazing prices! These are popular right now and can be hard to find IRL. I loved seeing them in person as the sizing can be very different from modern sizing. I found a pair that I am so excited to wear this summer. YES. I. LOVE. THIS. STORE. This was the very first thrift store I found when I moved to Indianapolis 8 years ago, and I couldn't have been happier with a thrift store. Tried and true, this place carries great items mainly from the 1960s to the1980s. There are loads of unique and fun finds here: clothing, decor, accessories, and more. I have purchased quite a few items from them since I moved here, and I have never once been displeased with the staff or item(s) I've purchased. It is a bit tight in certain areas of the store, but the items are worth the tight squeezes. As for parking, they have a lot in front of their building with a few spots and there's another lot behind their building. For a vintage store, the prices were very reasonable and there was an extensive selection of both men and womens' clothing and accessories available. The dressing rooms were open and decorated very nicely. There was also ample parking out front of the store, which I appreciated. I met the owner of the store, and she was very kind and definitely seemed passionate about her business. This place is amazing! Seriously I picked up some really cute owl earrings here. The lady behind the desk is really nice, this couple had the husband trying on random sunglasses and the wife was laughing hysterically. I tried on some dresses but none of them fit unfortunately. I need to lose some weight before returning here hoping I can find something in my size. Hey, it's a weight loss goal so there is that. If I were 15 years younger, Broad Ripple Vintage would be the place where I'd buy most of my clothing. I'm a fan of old clothes, what can I say? But as a parent of two young children, I need to wear things that are easily washable, because it's not a matter of IF I will get someone's oatmeal on myself ... it's just a matter of WHEN. But this vintage store is a great place to browse and dream about what I would buy if I didn't have kids: polyester fringe, sequins, suede vests, hand-knit sweaters with kittens on them. I saw several muu muus that would have made Mrs. Roper from "Three's Company" proud. And, of course, Broad Ripple Vintage has that requisite old-man-and-moth-balls smell that a good vintage store must have. I love the hunt for nice things. I love hunting for Star Wars things, and the last time I was at BRV, I found them, those Star Wars things. I got a "Darth Vadar Lives" shirt, so old the Vadar instead of Vader spelling is still present. Stephenie gave me a discount for having good taste. These people are so nice & helpful. Every time I walk in here I think of this Lester Bangs quote: "Jim Morrison? The Doors? He a drunken buffoon posing as a poet. Give me the Guess Who. They have the courage to be drunken buffoons, which makes them poetic." Listening to the Doors doesn't bother me, I think it actually calms me down when I'm overwhelmed with things I want to buy and can't afford. I believe that BRV has fair pricing for the quality of items it carries. Take your time, and really search through this gem. They have something for everyone! read more

While wandering around Indianapolis I thought it would be cool to hit up the Broad Ripple area. Of course what better to do along with that than check out a local vintage shop. My theory has always been that the best way to experience a local area is to check out the thrift shops and vintage shops. So after grabbing a cup of bubble tea I made a quick hop over to Broad Ripple Vintage. At first sight, I found the neighborhood a bit questionable for my nicer looking rental car and the suit I was wearing. No matter, I give everything the benefit of the doubt. They had a neat façade with a few things on display outside to draw the eye. When you go in you'll find yourself practically overwhelmed by the amount of stuff. Clothes, buttons, belt buckles, jewelry. All of it fairly well gaudy no less. The colors are profound. This is by no means your grandma's antique shop. Think like 80's movie in terms of color clash in yo face. But I'll digress, while there are basically two cramped aisles of colorful choices, the vast majority of the stuff I see in here is for women or folks that are far more liberal than I in what they're willing to wear. Short of the belt buckles and a large selection of T-shirts it is unfortunately lacking in menswear. The shop keeper seemed very helpful and interested in chatting. Not sure if she was the owner or just an employee but nonetheless an eclectic type. After scanning over the buttons, patched and belt buckles I made my way out. It's a quick trip in here unless you're really diving into the clothes search. So perhaps for me it's a sign I'm getting older and my tastes have been beaten into changing by wearing dark polos and khakis in an office all day. But that said, this wasn't my kind of place for vintage wear and I have seen better. read more

Decent selection of vintage goodies mixed in among clothing that came from places like Target that simply have "Vintage" on the label like plain black tees that are well loved but still sell for $8 (isn't that what a Target tee goes for brand new??) Biggest issue: The kids behind the counter need to speak a bit softer if they're going to talk about adults that have tattoo sleeves (I do) that come into their shops looking at band tees (we were) that were from when they were kids and how sad it makes us (we're actually pretty happy people). First of all, if you're an avid fan of the Doors, this store is for you. You can see Jim Morrison's face almost every time you turn around and they play exclusively their music. It's incredible. The cashier (lovely woman) mentioned that the owners have had the place for about 20 years, and you can tell given their seasoned knowledge of vintage fashion. You can find almost any decade, along with eclectic jewelry to accent any style. However, the clothing stock can get a tad sparse at times. Fun atmosphere and interior, but very random selection. It didn't seem as much "vintage" as random leftover Halloween costumes and school play outfits. Rows of different colors of t-shirts that you can find in any Goodwill and many pieces that have multiple duplicates from someone following a cheap pattern with sale cotton fabric. And, Jim Morrison found his way to be blamed for this review to get 4 stars and not 5. I've been here on a dozen occasions, over a decade, and The Doors are ALWAYS, ALWAYS playing. It's awful. Val Kilmer pops up in my dreams far too often, due to it. Besides that...I love this place. Typically in resale, vintage, thrift stores Men's clothing is quarantined to a small corner; here though, Men's clothing thrives. That's a rare find, really. The staff has a blast, and is helpful. I suggest having fun with them at the sunglasses & jewelry counter. Plenty of fitting rooms. Noooot toooooo overpriced, really. Because they have such a selection, I don't mind paying a few dollars more for what I would want. Shopping should be a good time, and here they make sure it is. read more
