Very rude service people, dressing room closes at 5 and store closes at 6:00 on Sunday. Why not close at 5. A clothing store should expect to have dressing rooms available. My daughter was looking at clothing for a long time and not once was it announced that there would be no dressing rooms. We were told the rooms had ready been cleaned and that the closing team had more to do "than just clean the dressing rooms" before closing and that we we were welcome to have all of the clothes held until another day. Will not be coming back. Asked to talk to a manager and a young girl spoke on his behalf and he didn't address the situation. We were instead told she as refusing service instead of giving us options. Poor customer service from a team just looking to get out the door. read more

Came here for the first time to sell my clothes and was not satisfied at all. I came here with good condition shorts that were a year old since they didn't fit me anymore. I was hoping to get a good amount of money back from buying these shorts but nope! Sigh it's whatever. You're probably better off going somewhere else or selling the clothes online. The main thing was bad customer service. I walked in and they girl gave me a little attitude and threw the booklet on the table then left. The store wasn't busy so a little small talk would've been appreciated. Then they told me once they were done processing, my name would be up on the board to let me know it's finished so I waited and they never put my name up there. I had to go ask after almost an hour and they have been done for awhile. What a waste of time and definitely not worth it. I won't be coming back here. read more

The employees here are SO unprofessional! They barely look up from their phones to speak to customers. Two girls carried on with a personal conversation about a boyfriend while I waited patiently for them to acknowledge me. Completely inappropriate conversation to have in front of customers. It felt like I was interrupting them and was an inconvenience to them. Did they forgot they were at work and not in the flipping break room? Get off your phones!!! I have been to a few other Plato's throughout the states and this one felt a bit uncomfortable to shop in. Many of the employees were standing behind the counters talking very loudly joking around with each, after walking in nobody acknowledged me or even said anything the bare minimum. They were being very obnoxious and cursing at one another not caring who was around. Very unprofessional! The other location they at least acknowledge you and greet you when you walk in, they're more attentive once you get to the registers. This location is like their customers are in the way. With plenty of 1 stars for reviews, I believe something must be done for possibly new management because it starts at the top. Plato's in other states is such a fun store and positive environment to be in, it's a shame this location does not meet that expectation. read more

The only reason why I'm leaving a review is because I use to sell my clothes at the platos closet in San Diego and I usually walked out of that store getting at least $30 wether they took ten items or six. They give you $2 or less for everything. It doesn't matter what brand it is. I went today and got $4 for two items. I said okay, whatever but then I realized that one of those items were jeans from urban outfitters. Y'all know how expensive those can be and how popular those jeans are. This place sucks. They are so lazy here and unprofessional. They are all younger people who are either talking to each other all day even when checking you out or are on their phones. They never take my stuff but will have shoes on the shelf that are falling apart or clothes that look disgusting, too worn, or some that even have stains. Went in at 4:45pm and they said they couldn't take anymore clothes cause they closed at 6pm... that's a whole hour and fifteen minutes. It would've taken them 20 minutes at the most to look through my stuff I would go to the one on coors before I ever went back to this one. I come here on occasion to find cheap clothes. I like used. I like trendy. I also like that I can bring some clothes in and get credit to trade in. However, they are so rude here. Especially at this location. Tonight I had the worst customer service I've had yet, which has prompted a long time coming review. I brought in some trades and the girl who checked me in rolled her eyes when I asked a question about the process. Because I had previously said I'd traded before so she said "umm I thought you've traded. But you still don't get it" Then upon check out the only two items from my bag they took equaled $3 and some change and instead of kindly saying they didn't choose the others the girl stated the reason as they weren't "good looking" (excuse me while I pout about my style...) however unfortunate that it is finding out I'm not the trendiest on the block is the least of my worries.... as an employee you shouldn't be rude to your customers. Then again, I asked the girl who checked me out a question about my "Plato's closet account" and she just keep talking over me and didn't even try to understand my question. As I walked out I saw the two girls through a mirror and they were watching me walk away while talking about me. Me and my family went here to try on clothes and the workers there were making fun of us calling us stuck up snobs. They weren't barely wearing any clothes and were extremely rude checking out. Needless to say we left and did not purchase any clothes and were talked about when we left without buying anything. They don't accept the best of things. In my finds I usually see holes, tears, bleach stains, and other things. However, there are still some very good finds. It's all in the search. This was the worst place i have ever gone to. I am a teenager just trying to find some money for myself, and i go into Plato's closet with a bag filled with many expensive brands in my opinion. I had a pair of vans that were only worn once, a couple of vans shirts, thrashed shirts, and more along those lines. Of course i was hoping i would get at least around $30ish dollars. When i was called up to receive my money i was only given $13 in total. Do you know how heart broken i was? Again, i'm just a teenager and i was selling my old clothes to possibly get some money to purchase new ones, and these days you can't even buy a shirt without costing $20. When they let you see what they have picked out you're suppose to sign a paper saying you AGREE to have them take your clothes. The lady working saw my reaction and didn't even let me sign the paper. She basically took my clothes and gave me my $13 and said have a nice day. So they basically stole from me. I would of said something but obviously i didn't want to make a scene. This store shouldn't be around period. The ladies that work their don't know what the new "in styles" are. They pick what they want. First time visit. I walked in with Frankie B's, JBrand, Hudson, Denimocracy, Michael Kors to name a few brands. I was told my clothes weren't the current style. Apparently the front desk doesn't know brands. I walked through the store and saw the current styles and brands being sold. They do not compare to what I came in with. Just state you're not accepting clothes at this time. But what do you expect with young girls working the desk who probably find Forever 21 their go to brand?! Never again will I come here and most likely will tell everyone I know to avoid. You're better off donating to those in need or selling on Poshmark where people know brands. Plato's Closet - Albuquerque, NM I will be posting this same review for both locations in the Albuquerque area, because I had a terrible experience at BOTH locations yesterday, and I will never go into this dishonest store ever again. This place is a complete scam, and it should rank lower than selling on Craigslist. It's bad to say I'd rather deal with complete strangers, sketchy ones at that, ONLINE than dealing with a business that should have some sort of ethical standards. Just to note, the review is not so much based on the prices paid - I get it- Plato's Closet needs to make money to keep the store running, so I realize I'm only going to get a small percentage of what they plan to sell an item for, but the sketchy practices they use are horrible. Anyway... Fast forward to yesterday. I went in with my best friend as we both are trying to move a lot of old clothes. We brought in a bag or two each, not a ton of items, but a handful. Mostly shoes. Again, same thing, didn't expect much for them because I understand they need to *make* money on what they resell. What I did not expect: the half ass lying, and dishonest behavior from employees. The first trip was into the Cutler store. They went through everything fast. I was surprised by some items they didn't want that were new, but I mean they would have given me like a $1 for a NWT item so I guess that's okay. I think it's pretty shitty, pardon the language, to put my crap back in bags on top of what the store wants to buy from you, and then they half ass hold up the barrel and breeze over what they want to buy. Not only that, because they hold up the bin behind the counter, you can't see what the hell they are buying from you, and it's not like you have time to rifle back through your own stuff to see what is no longer there. They throw out an arbitrary price, and try to get you to move on from it as fast as possible. My offer seemed fine, a few jeans and a few pairs of heels (ONE NEW IN BOX) for like $30. It was a loss to me, and it was stuff that I would have made close to the same amount (sadly) on eBay, so fine. What was EXTREMELY awful and I feel unethical is what they did to my friend. She brought in several shoes in boxes, they took the shoes out of boxes, gave her back the boxes, and they just said they were going to keep a couple pairs of shoes. Since they kept my shoes in the box that they bought, she assumed she was getting a few pairs back, and since we were almost being rushed out of line, she didn't stop to check. Why would you give the boxes back? You gave her $20 for 5 pairs of shoes, and she wouldn't have agreed to it on some if she had known how many you were going to buy. She was confused by it, and the employee barely even offered to show her what they were buying. She didn't even show the bin, she just handed back my friend's items and said we would be buying "the shoes" and here is the price. We didn't realize until we got to the next location how much they took from her without really letting her know. Perhaps we should have been more vigilant and made the employee show us, but I thought we could have some faith in a business not to F**k us over. Guess not. When we got to the next store, we almost didn't even want to try. The last store had left such a bad impression in our mouths, but we had the car loaded up and this was our mission today. We decided to trust them again, SHAME ON US, but again I thought maybe it was just cause the other store was a busy and was an isolated incident. NOPE. We brought in the last few things we had, they went through them, and then came time to pay us. This time they did me dirty, and did my friend slightly better. They told me they were going to buy a dress and a pair of heels for $9. What they did not tell me is they also kept 2 pairs of Jessica Simpson sunglasses. They showed me the bin, but they literally HID THE SUNGLASSES under the dress. I didn't notice my sunglasses were gone from the bags I gave them until today and I am horribly pissed off. I would not have agreed to sell those glasses, shoes, and dress for so little. I would have taken the glasses back. I made about $40 between the three stores we went to yesterday. Buffalo Exchange was the third. They sat there and go through your stuff while you watch them do it, and they tell you what they are going to buy, what they are going to sell it for, and what they can offer you and why. That's a much better experience. I only got $4 for an item at BE, but the whole experience was worlds better. Plato's closet, you are a horrible, unethical, dishonest company and I will never give you a dime. Again, not about the prices, but just your practices on letting customers know what you are buying is at best, some sort of legal theft. Shame on you. Shame on me for going into 2 stores yesterday. We won't ever ever ever EVER go back. I would rather give my items away to donation than have them stolen from my by a company. read more

Where do I even start. The only reason why they get one star is because the store is always clean and I like the location. I will say, it always smells nice when you walk in here. However, every time I come in here to sell clothes, the employees are incredibly rude and cold. Most recently, the girl acted like she was in a rush and was not friendly at all. I was selling mostly winter items. I was selling a pair of Ugg boots, and I noticed the same pair in the store being sold for $35 (however, the declined they same pair of boots - made no sense). We walked around the store while they were going through our bag of 1 items. I noticed a lot of their clothing was from Walmart, when before, they'd never accept Walmart items. Most of the clothing they want is from Victoria Secret Pink. All of the Pink clothing items look so old, they have piling and look beyond used. Yet, Platos charges $16-$25 for an item from there. They also were selling a leather jacket with a hole for $30. They took ONE HOUR to go through 1 small bag of clothing. They said they were being "selective" and they did not buy a single item of clothing. Don't shop or buy here if you want to buy overpriced clothing. Buffalo exchange is so much better. read more

Staff here are not friendly at all. They don't even acknowledge your presence. The employees here were not helping other customers as well as I observed. You can hear them laughing really loud to one another while customers came in. The customers don't even get a "hello". I fell as if the whole time they were judging me and judging other people that were in the store. I did pick up a few pieces but from being so uncomfortable I just left. Hopefully they can get more friendlier employees that actually care about the customers and making the customers feel welcomed. read more

Brought in a bag of clothes today for the first time. It was full of cute stuff that was too small for me. I thought because the clothes were for young women ( some never worn) I might get a little bit of a store credit. Wrong the little girl that helped me was extremely rude and said it be 20 minutes. I really like this store. I've never tried to sell so I can't comment on that but I buy pretty often. Their clothes are typically on trend, but lack basics. So if you're looking for a special piece, this is a great place to go but you can't stock your closet. I get compliments every time i wear something from here. Special note, their social media rocks! They post outfits on Instagram multiple times most days and you can ask them to hold items. I've done this a couple times, always with good results. read more

Buying:Great prices for clothes that,yes are comparable to pieces you could find at the mall.I like to pay $5 or less when I'm thrift shopping that's what makes it so much fun! Buying clothes at this location you are def at or around retail price range with some gems hidden in the mix for a steal! Great amount of accessories and wallets + Do they have sales? Yes they usually have some clearance. They have an annual "Grab bag sale" for $15 you can fill a bag given by the store with as many clearance items you can possibly fit into the bag and pay a flat $15 for all items. (Bag is about grocery size) They had this year 16' a $1 dollar sale!! The first I had ever heard of this sale. The day after the grab bag sale all clearance was $1 Yea is was pretty amazing! Def a HIT! My kinda HIT,thriftiness at its finest. Now when it comes to selling your clothes to the store this is where you can def receive some MISSES I have sold 4 items and received $20 I have also brought in amazing brands and gotten $0 A brand new,North Face light blue wind breaker type jacket.Passed up.Ed Hardy boots brand new.Passed up. Tips-bring trendy somewhat NEW clothes and don't be afraid to take back your clothes when they offer you wayyyy less than what you know you paid. Last visit my whole bin was passed up and I was offered 2.55 for a brand new pair of super cute shorts and an awesome tank with palm trees lining the bottom. I said no thank you. I came in here today with a large bag of clothing and purses. After going to Buffalo on Central and being turned away I decided to give Plato's a try. The staff was friendly there selection of clothes was good. Unlike Buffalo their clothes were extremely organized which I really liked. They bought several of my purses and some of my clothing. The only thing that bothered me slightly was that they were going to sell one of my purses for $100 and I only got $40 for the bag but I guess that's just the nature of not selling it yourself. read more

"Consistently disappointing" is how I would sum up my half a dozen trips to this location. It's tough to have your clothes judged by the teenagers/young women working there and even tougher to deal with their rushed, bordering on rude, customer service. I've always brought a bag of clothes and shoes to sell and I personally feel the stuff in my bag looks WAY better condition/cleaner/newer than the stuff on their racks. After looking through my clothes, they select maybe one or two items (which doesn't equal much $; less incentive for me to make any purchases) then I am turned away with comments like "the styles are too old" or "clothes are too worn". I would urge management to do a little more training on customer service skills and really take a look at what kind of quality they're putting on the racks. read more

The one time I did go into shop, it was nice. However, when I went in for an exchange I brought in several bags of clothes and shoes. I knew that all of the stuff wasn't going to be bought. But hell, a lot of the clothes had been bought from forever 21 and were in good condition! I was told it would take about 20 minutes for them to look through my clothes. The employees were extremely unprofessional and were standing behind the counter laughing the whole time. They made me feel unwanted in that store. They ended up taking one brand new shirt from an Avon catalog that was about $15 for $1 and some change and telling me that everything else was too old. I knew some of it was, but not everything! They told me to take my several bags that were torn and they could see that I was struggling as I was by myself and they wouldn't even move to open the door as I was stumbling over bags. I've been to this location about 6 times to sell some NICE things before giving them to goodwill and Salvation Army. If I could give them a Zero I totally would and next time am just giving my stuff away instead of keeping this place running. It's ghetto and so are the people who work there. All the employees have been rude every single time for zero reason. Saw a handful of other peoples' bags including mine that still had yet to be sifted through pretty sure the girl's just didn't feel like working. Will never be returning. The location on cutler is better but still only like a 2 star. Platos closet is lame and the workers should be earning like 4 dollars worth of gum an hour considering the "work" they put in. Don't take your stuff here. Sell it on eBay or give it away.
