I had been taking my vehicles to a national chain due to knowing the manager through a work relationship. I trusted him to be honest and not spend my money guessing at problems. At one point I brought him a Mercedes with an issue and he informed me he didn't have the proper tools to diagnose and/or work on this particular issue. Since then I have brought all 5 of my cars to Leo for everything they've needed. The best part about this shop is that they do not guess at problems. They do their due diligence to look into things and research them to make sure if they are asking you to spend money on parts/labor, that it will fix the issue you are having. This place is very close to my house, so after some completely unexpected flooding in the area and some water damage, I needed some repair work on my car (didn't have comprehensive insurance on my car) I took it here. The owner had been very friendly before and unlocked my car for me when I had closed the door and was cleaning my windshield on a frigid winter morning, and the car decided to lock itself (not once but twice) so I wanted to give him my business, and went in to tell him I wanted him to work on my car. This was in September of 2008. I am writing this review (because they finally called to say the car is good to go) on Friday, December 12th. I waited over 3 weeks just to hear something about my car. Finally calling them to get information, they just told me they "almost had it." Another three weeks pass, and by this point it's late October, and they've almost got it running, they just need a little more time with it. 2nd week of November(ish) comes and I call to see where they're at -- keep in mind, I have a scooter and no job, so i'm not in the largest hurry to incur an extra expenditure -- and they tell me "oh yeah thanks for calling, we've been meaning to call you. you should stop by, we need to talk about a few things." (note that they never actually called me.) So I stop by -- turns out they've finally pinpointed all the problems. They want to know how much I'm willing to spend on it, because it could be expensive. Well, jobless, with no income and not much money in the bank I have no way to purchase a new vehicle but I need a vehicle for job interviews and things like that, so I have little choice but to fix it. The estimate he gives me: "It will be between $500 and $2000." Yeah, I know. That's what I thought too. Okay, give me about a week he says. A week later he says they've having a lot of trouble, they have to order some more parts for it. Then he forgets about Thanksgiving, so that delays parts delivery by (apparently) 4 days. He says it will be about $1,000 Another week goes by. December 5th he says they had to order just a few more parts but he's 100% sure that's all they need. It will be a week more at most. December 12th he calls me (for the fist time) to tell me it's ready to go. He gives me a few details about what's gone wrong, what they've had to do, and tells me the final price. $1,941. I ask him if I can somehow pay over the course of two maybe three months because that's a lot of money. He says, "Um, no." $1,941 Now, I know that Yelp is a forum for reviews, not for bitching and moaning. But honestly -- 3 months of them holding my car, calling me exactly ONCE on the day it was due, forcing me to call them constantly to get information. My car clearly being on the back burner for all that time, finally they get to it in the last three weeks they had it. Quote me a huge range in their estimate, give me no break on price even though they clearly didn't care about my car and my needs for two and a half months, and then not give me any leeway on paying for it over the course of two months because I was unemployed for 5 months and have almost no money. This is the way you treat your customers? This is how you expect to conduct business? I'm just floored by this entire situation. HORRIBLE customer service, clearly inefficient and slow work, and no care at all as to the needs of their customers. I understand the idea that "that's how car repair joints work" but it doesn't mean I can't still be upset when they're like this. I can still be upset when, say, Lindsay Lohan goes back to rehab! I mean c'mon, I'm rooting for her to do well! I want there to be good in this world! And if there is any good in this world, it sure as heck isn't at Platinum Motorsport. read more

I know it's hard nowadays to find a good, efficient, and trusting mechanic but Leo (the owner) and the Platinum motor sport team are all of those things. I was recommended by family and friends and boy was I not disappointed! Whatever and whenever I have something that needs to be fixed or checked on, they have always been so reliable and fast. For example, I had some issues with my 4 wheel drive, along with a couple other minor issues, I called at 8 am, they got me in at 9am, and I was out of there with everything fixed by 10 am. The last issue we had was very difficult to figure out, but he kept digging until he found the issue. Bad business and very bad customer service. I recommend looking around before giving them your business. This business charge me nearly 600.00 just to change the battery. That battery 100.00 the diagnostic 150.00 she, the owners wife asked for 569.66. When asking what she did for 569.66 she got hostile!! They literally stole from us. I have every intention of taking this complaint higher. And I encourage every vehicle owner to really think twice or make sure they are not exaggerating the repairs. For example 3200 for the radiator. Look up the cost of a 2008 BMW 328XI and what do you get! Bad business, bad people. No good!! If you call around the average cost is between 900-1000. Don't let them rip you off and double check the repairs with other German mechanics. Vehicle was taking back to a BMW and Audi mechanic off sixth avenue two very good mechanics with A-1 service. I had some car trouble recently (my car just wouldn't start) and a coworker recommended this place. They took my car in and did a complete overview of it, but they weren't able to replicate the problem (although they did believe me and the guys who towed my car that it really wasn't starting) or find a problem that would cause the engine to not start. The mechanic explained that with Infinities and Nissons this was not an unheard of problem, and that he wasn't comfortable charging me a bunch of money to keep trying to find something that may just have been a glitch. He did tell me of a few things that were not dire but I should consider fixing, if not now then in the future (my car is 12 years old, so not surprising), but those fixes were not crazy expensive. The biggest thing he did was explain to me that I needed to go back to the brake place that had redone my brakes recently because that place had completely forgotten to install a necessary padding between two parts. He carefully explained and wrote down what they had done wrong, and was very adamant that I needed to get that handled. I really appreciated his concern and honesty! This is a place that gets it done right the first time. I have been going here for years with never a problem. Leo's knowledge about cars is really very impressive and I get an education everytime I take my cars to him for service. He recently fixed the connections on the passenger seat of my 2005 SUV which had tripped the air bag light. Problem solved. Then the transmission started slipping a bit. If there were a way to give zero stars, or "negative" stars, this review would be much more accurate. I brought my car here upon the recommendation of a very generous "mechanic" who had been helping me for free but did not have the resources nor the time to continue. I have a basic knowledge of cars and had done several repairs up until this point- when you need to run a computer diagnostic to find out what is wrong. This place ran the diagnostic, told me what was wrong and then gave me a quote on the parts. The price they gave me was three times what I could find the parts for new. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE. When I saw the previous review, I pulled the car and still had quite a bill. The owner lied directly to my face about the cost of the parts and they killed a working battery and fried a working part while testing the car. I thought the days of mechanics "breaking" parts in cars to jack up the price were long gone... NOT the case. My faith in humanity was pushed back a few steps after a visit to this very sad establishment. read more

Had a tow truck at my house within 1 hour on a Friday afternoon. Picked up my truck on Monday. I had my water pump, timing belt, thermostat, and all the other necessary parts replaced. After blowing the motor in my Durango and not having the funds to tow my car let alone fix it Leo towed it and let me keep my Durango at his shop for a month for no charge and then when I couldn't afford to fix it, which was the best price in town by the way, he assisted me with a buyer for my car. I have had at least 5 or 6 repair jobs done on various vehicles at Platinum Motorsport. Leo and his hardworking team have fixed my power steering blowout on a Chevy Astro, my brakes and ignition problems with a Ford Focus and an erratic difficulty with starting a VW Vanagon. Everytime, without exception, Platinum Motorsport has been fair and honest and never overpriced. You won't have that experience of being told you also need a hundred other things fixed. I have recommended these folks to a number of friends and neighbors - something I wouldn't do unless I believed in their integrity. Personally, having a car repair done by someone I trust is a fantastic feeling. 18 months ago a friend arrived from Ohio and his 2003 Neon had drastic overheating problems with the transmission and the radiator. He took the Neon to a dealership and they quoted him $5,000+ for the needed repairs. I told him, "Get another quote from Leo, he's honest and straightforward." Sure enough, Platinum Motorsport fixed everything for less than $300. Leo seems to care about his repair work so much that he always says, "If you have any problems, please bring it back and we'll see if it's running right." To change 3 bulbs Leo (owner) kept my car for 5 days. Wile my car was in the shop, he called me and said that a battery was also broken. Although I new for sure it was not true (by chance I could check the battery on my way to the shop) I agreed to pay for the battery, because even if I came to check, they could brake some contact, so engine wouldn't start anyway. It was simply a blackmail. When he called me that my car was ready, and I came and checked his work (he got offended that I dared to check) one bulb still didn't work, so I had to wait again. When he said it was ready, and I checked it again, he got offended even more. When I wanted to pay, he demanded me to pay significantly more than he charged me at first (even with new battery) saying that it was amount we agreed. Since I had no choice, I didn't argue and gave him my credit card. I just said, "I will never come again". He became furious. He was going to run my card through a card reader, but after my words he threw my card on the counter and screamed, "I won't take your card. Give me cash!" I said, "I don't have so mach money in my pocket." He said, "Then go to your bank." I said, "How can I do it if I just returned a rental car?" He said, "It's not my problem. What is your bank?" I said, "Key Bank." He said, "Than walk faster before it closes." The closest Key Bank branch locates 12 blocks away, and had to close in 20 min. Fortunately one of my friends lives just 2 blocks away, so I could barrow money from him. Otherwise I would have to walk home (about one hour walk) and than to ask somebody to drive me back to the shop. If this is not outrageous what is? read more

These guys are the best in town! I had them work on my thunderbird because I have been adding oil for a long time, about a quart a week. They replaced my head gasket and my oil leak stopped. Then more recently I started to have to add oil again. my oil pressure gauge kept hitting zero after accelerating. They fixed the oil pressure sending unit. I drove away and the car felt like new again with power restored. I called Leo to thank him and went down to McDonald's to grab a bite and then he called me. He asked if I had a trail of oil behind me and I looked and it was there. He asked if I lost oil and I checked and it was gone. He told me not to move and sent his tow truck to come get me because he didn't want to risk breaking the engine. ( even though I new it would be fine from driving about 3 quarts low for so long.). So they looked again and said it was the housing the oil filter goes into that needed replaced. They were so awesome they gave me a Truck to use until it was complete! I returned 2 days later, do to the time it took to get the part. I asked what the damage was and Leo said no charge! I was amazed at the care for my car and outstanding customer service these guys continue to give. The best part is they've never tried to upswell any unnecessary services.
